- This video deals with replacing the recoil cord on a honda eu2000i generator. However to actually remove the recoil housing you need to remove the outside plastic covers and remove the fuel tank to get to this position. removing the plastics is the hardest job. if your cord has broke and need to install a new rope you'll have to wind the recoil perhaps 5 turns and adjust your rope as needed to fit the recoil as it unwinds. do not try to dissemble the spring to replace the rope as you may end up with a shit show.

Great video to demonstrate how to bumble your way through the simplest part of replacing the pull cord. The hardest part is getting the covers off and getting to the recoil unit, I can only imagine how well you handled that. 4 1/2 minutes of my life I can't get back... Watch the other video on pull cord replacement that shows the whole process and don't waste your time here
if you melt the ends it really helps in the feeding through the housing.

i always take them apart and clean the spring and put a little oil on the spring. to keep the rust down. and to see if anything is broken or needs to be replaced.
i do like the idea of a zip tie.

How were you planning on feeding the handle through the cover? Shouldn’t you have put the string through the case first then tie the handle on

Wondering as to the original position.. as in when set up does the rope come out from the 4oclock position or the 6oclock?
I have 2 large generators that are electric start. Replacing the battery's is a pain for both so this is not so bad.

me and working with springs under pressure dont mix well, before I got my trade I went to replace a coil spring on my civic and I used the shitty 2 piece compressors from princess auto. For one they didnt fit my particular spring right so I should have stopped there but being an idiot I continued to compress it with a few wrench turns at a time on each side...I then thought this was too slow and put the impact gun on it and in the blink of an eye one compressor was embedded into my garage wall, one on the other side of the garage and the spring ended up under the bench...Turned white as a ghost and got sick I had to go sit down I got that much of a scare haha

Why does everyone feed the cord in that direction ?
Feed cord inside to outside . Much easier
