Walter, I first learned about the Matterhorn in 1959 when I was only 8 y.o. I had just seen the Disney movie "Third Man On The Mountain". I've always wanted to do it, but kept putting it off. And even in 1971 when I was only 20 y.o. and in the Army and stationed in Bavaria, it didn't even enter my mind to do it. Even when I visited the Zugspitz I didn't think about it, and I was so close then! Now I'm 70, and I'm too old. I don't think it's going to happen in this life. But man, if it does happen, you're the man I'm going to call. Thanks for these great videos, man. Thank you. .
Your standing belays in leading your client down the ridge would be unacceptable in American mountaineering! It looks as if you are simply holding the excess loops of climbing line in your left hand and you are not secured to the mountain.
Neal Anderson Don't talk anything about stuff you don't know... in that way. Here I have a link for you from American mountain guide (AMGA instructor team member) climbing Matterhorn using this, the " short rope technique". Believe or not, but Swiss guides doing the matterhorn know exactly what thy do. instagram.com/p/BmsRkHEhnxF/
Great video. Was wondering what it was like going down after watching several videos showing the route up. Hopefully I can do this as well in the next years.
Tolles Video, wir immer! Hammer!
Just an observation... it's clear, from how so much of the stone has been worn away in some areas, that an endless array of climbers have been up and down this mountain. I can't even begin to imagine how Whymper and his crew made the very first climb; how many times they must have had to turn back after going so far via one route, only to turn around and try another.
Of course walter ! thanks for the answer, maybe one day i'll put my foot on this beautiful mountain , but before i've to improve my experience :-D ... bye and good job ! i hope you keep sharing a lot of these wonderfull movies ;)
DCsamH, a bit. You should have some experience in "exposed" technical climbing in order to not put your guide or others at risk. Also be in excellent cardio condition.
Walter Rossini This is very enjoyable. Can you please tell me to what altitude up the mountain it's possible to climb without specialized equipment or mountaineering skills?
the guide makes it look so easy like he is walking from home to a grocery store ;D and then i look at the guy in blue and he is so insecure in every step he makes like it's his first day in the mountains :D so funny
jablkova strudla na man that’s way off the mark. Rossini has probably been up and down the Matterhorn maybe a hundred times? The client is very competent

It take a good guide to get up the Matterhorn... it takes an even better guide to get down in one piece. Nice work. Thanks for the video.
This guide has a lovely ease and balance. He is sure-footed and well-weighted.
You make it look SO easy, your footwork on the rock, so graceful! 👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻
Congratulations. Great experience! Thank you for sharing.
Guide has a wonderful, calming tone of voice.
Thank you Mike!

Oh yanks ! Of course they know everything better than anyone else
That hug at the end is priceless! Good job👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
great! very informative and impressive. Yes Walter seems very reassuring and cool!
very nice to see a decent video! and grats on the climb guys! :D
Thank you for posting this, I can find lots of information on getting up and that is only half the trip.
Great video. Was wondering what it was like going down after watching several videos showing the route up. Hopefully I can do this as well in the next years.
Nice video! It looks easier going down than climbing up. Decending video gives better perspective on the route. 😁
Nice one! your man leads him steady thru technical parts 👍
GREAT!!!! Fantastic!!! Amazing video!!!
Finally found a descent video, thank you for posting this. You are crazy though, much better to let someone else climb it then watch it on YT ;)
Fascinating to watch, thank you
fantastic, watched every move of his client, perfect guiding.
Impressive, respect!
You are the perfec guide too responsabel and good friend. Congrats
espectacular descenso Walter, enhorabuena y gracias por compartir ✨
ERES MI RUclipsR FAVORITO NUNCA CAMBIES
Interesting to watch as me and my mate Christian are hoping to do this in September... great to know what we have to do to get back down...

excellent..!
hi and thanks Walter! do the ice spikes on your shoes not make it slippery on the stones??
MY knees get weak just watching!!!
i washalf a centry old there.NIice video.
That guide is like a mountain goat👍
Now that is a scary view looking down!
Bravo champion !

Expert mountaineer. There .knows the moutains well .beauifull climb. Climb on.live long .
I’ve heard that the steepest part of the descent is down the snow and ice from the summit, is this part protected with fixed anchor points.?
i think it's harder than the ascent :-D !
but depends of the conditions i think. Beautiful videos Walter, very usefull,
awesome mountains !
It is at least as hard as climbing up! Depending on how trained you are can be even harder!
Of course walter ! thanks for the answer, maybe one day i'll put my foot on this beautiful mountain , but before i've to improve my experience :-D ... bye and good job ! i hope you keep sharing a lot of these wonderfull movies ;)
Thank you!
Going down is always harder than the ascent...unless you change route...
I think the first group to ever summit the matterhorn lost 3 guys on the way down.
The guid seemed very helpful and calm even though I just saw his legs. Lol
Wow.. that is a lot of down!
Hi, awesome video, what route is that?
how long is the rope?
Walter, eres un auténtico maestro!
I feel ill watching this... still want to do it myself... have to train hard first to overcome fear. Was at Hörnlihütte today
Best way is to jump down with a parachute.
Daaaaaaaang
Odd. Your video makes the downclimb look more difficult than the ascent. Cheers!
Walter, how many times have you been to the top of Matterhorn?
This is the one mountain I would love to climb one day...
I'm in my 50s , so I better hurry up.....
Saludos
GRACIAS KPO!!! ,ME ESTA LLAMANDO MUCHO LA ATENCION ESTE DEPORTE ABRAZO DESDE MAR DEL PLATA !!!
How hard is it to climb the Matterhorn? does it take a lot of specialised training?
DCsamH, a bit. You should have some experience in "exposed" technical climbing in order to not put your guide or others at risk. Also be in excellent cardio condition.
it's this Italian side or Swiss (Hornli side ) side climbing ?
I think it is the swiss side since they went down by Solvay hut and later close to finish one could see the Hornli hut.
Falling never hurts..it's the landing that's painful.
Don't fall in the first place 😝
It looks steeper than the 600 m ridge on mont blanc .
what is the average duration of a climb? and of a descent?
Hello Jean Louis, with a correct training it takes 4 hs climbing up and other 4 hs to descent to the Hörnli hut.
Walter Rossini This is very enjoyable. Can you please tell me to what altitude up the mountain it's possible to climb without specialized equipment or mountaineering skills?
Hello Tony, you can hike up to the Hörnli hut, at 3260m.
4:04 for a second I thought that was a pool of water on the left
Same here!
OK but how is it done on south face?
What do you mean?
Hola Walter mucho gusto!
Is this Italian side? (liongrot?)
That´s the Hörnli ridge
Terrifying You must be mad to do this Its way beyond dangerous Its amazing to watch though
in easy terrain you´d better to climb down than to trust everything to a rope and a bolt , the rope has to be the second step
it looks more dangerous than ascent.
the guide makes it look so easy like he is walking from home to a grocery store ;D and then i look at the guy in blue and he is so insecure in every step he makes like it's his first day in the mountains :D so funny
jablkova strudla na man that’s way off the mark. Rossini has probably been up and down the Matterhorn maybe a hundred times? The client is very competent
Just looking at the title. Many mountains are harder to climb down than up. I know a few of them.
Although not as high as Everest, I hear the Matterhorn is tougher to climb and descend...
Why not just take a running start and parachute off the mountain? Much easier and quicker mate.
Because of all the climbing aids, my grandmother could summit the Matterhorn.
Looks so pathetic , If these guys cant climb ,wtf are they on such a beast ?
Roped like a baby
Hello George, the rope is there for safety reasons, but the guests must be able to climb on their own. Walter
And putting babies on ropes is common practice 🤔
