I've always been amazed at all the broken slivers of rocks, scree?, as you go higher and higher.
And when you see mountains like the Matterhorn from a distance, it looks like one chunk of rock, but when you see videos of it close-up, it's millions upon millions of car-sized and truck-sized chunks of rock.

Thank you, A real inspiration and very helpful . I really want to do this hike as soon as the travel opens up and covid will allow. I've been trying to visualize the track and the heights of the drop offs that you encountered. I live in Australia and your video and Google Earth have been a great help. I have been to Zermatt with some dear Swiss friends and look forward to this new experience hopefully with them and my son. Any additional helpful info would be great to help me plan. Thank you again. Regards Paul

I first saw the Matterhorn when I was 8 yrs old, watching the Disney movie "Third Man on the Mountain." I'm now 70 and it saddens me that in all these years I've never made the attempt to go there and do this. It's so great that all of you have! Perhaps in another life I'll be able to give it a go?

I walked up to the Hörnli Hut two years ago when I was 50. With no significant training whatsoever. It's quite do-able. Make sure you have enough to drink and eat small bites at regular intervals. I forgot to eat and was completely drained of energy about 10 minutes below the hut. Sour jellybeans gave me the energy rush needed to complete the hike. Had a great meal once inside the hut!
On the hike up I passed a group of quite elderly Japanese pensioners. At a guess I'd say the eldest were around 70/75 maybe even older. They were going at a slower but quite steady pace and only arrived about 20 minutes after me! It can be done Thomas, even at your age, go for it!!

the go pro and the distortion of its lense makes it look like steeper than what is it.
I read it was a difficult (red line) hike, but I was amazed at how easy it was though! I even had an injured leg (I looked like a cripple) and I must say it was easier than anything else I've done in Switzerland.
beautiful videos though! next time I wanna try to climb a bit the matterhorn :D

Question, please... The video begins at Schwarzsee Lake. But the next scene is considerably higher with a lot of loose rocks all around. I would have liked to have seen the interim scenes that led from the lake up yo the rocky path. How much further did they have to walk btw the two scenes?

    1. Show us where you actually began your hike -Zermatt?
    2. Include more footage, please. I would have liked to put trails together with footage of the mountain as you got closer and closer to the hut.
