I own a Compass Trailhawk. There is a significant lack of power but I keep love riding it. Feels great, turns great, bumps are like butter. Transmission is slow as f*** but i can live with that. Perfect for camping and trips in the wild. Pretty proud of my JEEP

What the hell are you on about its a 2.5 engine. It has plenty of power in its class. It's comparable is the Mazda 5, the Ford Edge, the Hyundai Tuscon. All of them barring the Hyundai have a 2.5. All of them have the same Ooomph and speed. I test drove the Compass 2018 today and i can tell you it shifted ass. I went from 0 to 80 in seconds without no noise. It was as smooth as butter. So no idea what the hell you guys are bitching about. Maybe you are comparing it to the grand cherrokee or something else. That's not what your getting with this. This gives plenty of power. If you need more power then you have to move up to the Cherokee or grand. I'm afraid you are not going to get that in this class of vehicle.

You are by far the absolute best car review I've ever seen..... I have been heavily debating if I want to get the Renegade the compass or the Cherokee and I have watched all of your videos on all of them and I absolutely and graciously thank you for your amazing ability and just flat-out everyday reality talk versus all the other reviews are done by people who flat-out have unrealistic driving expectations... I’m 6 mos into leasing a ‘19 Compass High Altitude which my wife is the primary driver. Previously had 2 Grand Cherokee Overlands over past 6 yrs, the last one a V8. No, the Compass doesn’t have the grunt of the V8 GC but it is adequate and for the wife a much easier vehicle size for her to handle. I’ve driven it in various bad weather conditions including recent snow and it handled everything safely and surefooted. Very stable on the highway. Drives very nice, handles well. It doesn’t have the driving dynamics of my Alfa Romeo Stelvio but then again nothing does. All in all a very nice vehicle and great looking in white w/ black roof and trim and dark wheels.

Very good! In Brazil, Compass has a 2.0 tigershark engine (gas) or a 2.0 diesel (turbo).

  • @EM.1.
    @EM.1. 6 лет назад +5

I had one for a few months as it was a lemon. What I didn't like was the lackluster acceleration, however, Jeep will change that once the new Hurricane turbo makes it way to that model. I think Jeep can also improve the interior, perhaps offering brown leather seats and perhaps better fit and finish around the push button start area. Otherwise, a great little machine. Sorry, wish it was USA built.

Thank you for the review! I recently purchased a brand new 2020 Jeep Compass Sport, and I cannot get enough of driving it! My Jeep is FWD, and it is close to 400 pounds lighter than the 4x4 versions (especially the Trailhawk). At just under 3,200 pounds, the car feel good under acceleration, and I can't say I am dissapointed with the power delivery or the driving dynamics. Overall, I am pretty happy with this SUV. For a 4x4 Jeep, a V6 equipped Wrangler or a Cherokee would be my choice.

From what i can tell about the 9spd is that they are hit or miss. I had a 200 that was jerky and was slow to downshift. I drove a promaster city van that shifted perfect. I noticed that the 9spd only seems to have come in the early build date models. They are now using an Aisin 6spd auto now.

My only issue is a drive a 15 Charger and i like my acceleration and speed not sure if I'm ready to sacrifice it yet. But i would like a nice size SUV. Dodge and jeep is in the same family so I have most of those features in my Charger

The two things I dislike about my 2019 is coming to a stop it has to be a FULL stop or it won't kick down to 1st gear (manual mode of course I can) and the other is it could use a slight bump in power.

My previous cars were a 1995 Chevrolet Cavalier Coupe (2.2), a 2003 Honda Accord Sedan (2.4L) and a 2007 Mazda 3 (2.0L). All were 5 speed stick, and pretty fun to drive (especially the Mazda.
I recently bought a 2018 Compass Trailhawk, my first automatic vehicle. The only thing it options it doesn't have is the power liftgate, the LED headlights/taillights and the advanced safety sensors. Now obviously, it's not quite as fun to drive on the road ad my 5-speed Mazda 3, but for what it is, it's plenty good! I would say my least favorite thing is the transmission, I feel like it's the main thing holding the vehicle back. It often has trouble figuring out what you want. Occasionally it really shits the bed, but this is the worst of it, and I've been able to live with is, even as someone who has always driven stick. One transmission I found absolutely appalling was the CVT on the Toyota Corolla, I could never daily drive that. I would sooner drive my parents' 2007 Kia Rio 5. The handling is actually pretty decent for such a top heavy, and relatively narrow car. I'm a bit more of a mellow driver than maybe I was when I had my Mazda, but I still put it to the test sometimes. The suspension is pretty good for the most part although at really big or angular bumps, the wheel actually snaps back into position with quite a racket, part of the off road dynamics. The motor is fine for daily driving or cruising. You're not going to be taking it to the drag strip anytime soon, but you'll also be able to pass someone if you need to. Obviously due to that and the fidgety transmission, I have to be a bit more choosy about how and when I pass, but most of the time it does the job.

I have the 2018 latitude compass and I’ve also noticed the jerky transmission, I never minded the steering because i drove bigger vehicles with play in the steering so this was a great improvement in my opinion. But it could use a little more power. In my opinion they should bring back the straight 6 engines like the older models, but I get half way decent mpg. But other than that I really like it.

Question for you: I own a 2018 Compass Limited, fully loaded with optional LED lights, full sunroof, spare tire, Beats audio, bigger 19 inch mags option, etc. and all the perks (since June 2018 - has 4800 miles to it only). Do you have any rattling on yours? Mine rattles from all over the place even with the slightest road bump : door pillars near seat belts, black plastics on the door pillars are squeaky, the dash makes an irritating rattle noise, steering wheel has weak leather spots........disappointing rattles in mine, especially in cold weather with snow - I had no rattling in the summer. I like the car it self (looks great and has the Jeep signature look)....but for the MSRP price, the quality of the assembly could have been much better... I am worried about long term reliability: a lot of parts feel ''loose'' together. Otherwise same complaining: transmission is a little lagging and fuel consumption is really not the best.....but in snow storms this car is really good. Thanks!

Kinda interesting I just bought this jeep, and I also got a limited but living in Los Angeles I just didn't see the need for a 4x4 so ended up getting the 4x2 which is a 6 speed trans and I don't notice any of the bad driving characteristics you mentioned. It actually picks up and goes when you need it to. I guess they programmed the trans differently then in the 9 speed. I'm averaging 24 mpg and fill up every 8 days or so driving 15 miles to work and back and around town. I love this jeep!

I fell in love with it . The wife did too.. so we got a 2019 jeep compass trailhawk.. very happy with it.. yes it could use a lil more horsepower.. but if your into it for a everyday driver to get groceries.. to do your running around..and your not after a sports car.. then it's fine with 180hp, not every one needs 500hp to go to the store...lol Just my thoughts 🤣😅 Have a great day...😁😄😀👍

Thank you for this review, this made me feel a lot better about my purchase. I bought the 18 altitude a few days ago and I’m still so nervous. It has SO many mixed reviews and this is my first ever car I bought myself and I’m not in the position to have to take it to the shop as much as some people have said they’ve had to. I’ve noticed the sluggish transmission but honestly that doesn’t bother me too much as I only put MAYBE 3k miles on a car a year. My previous car was an 08 Chrysler 300 so just about anything would be an upgrade especially for Michigan winters

Nice video. I am about to buy one but people are telling me not to buy Jeep, it loss it is value and has so many mechanical issues. I am not sure what you recommend. I am trying to buy an SUV. Currently I drive Honda Accord 09. I've went to many dealers and drove their suvs such as CRV 16, Rav4 18, BMW X3 16, Forester 17, Tuscan 18, CX5 18, Sportage 18. But I really do not know what to buy. Recently I received an offer from Jeep to buy New Compass limited 2018 with 0 mile for $ 22K. The price is very competitive with the other ones that I driven. I know the prior ones are certified, but Compass is brand NEW. Please advice what to choose if possible. My commute to work is about 15K per year. I am trying to keep the vehicle as my 2009 Honda accord. Michigan roads has so many potholes and as you know, snow in winter. I really appreciate you.

  • @DamnitDave

I traded in my lifted tj wrangler for this compass limited...
I think people are a little spoiled with new car expectations if they test drive a lot of them
Compared to the old school wrangler, the compass rides like a luxury dream lol
That tj was a beast that had 200k miles (6 cyl. Manual) and still going strong... this new compass gets off the line just as well....and much more comfortably
Noisy?? Nope... but then I'm used to a wrangler with the top off lol
I am a little worried about all the technology in the compass... it feels delicate compared to the old wrangler that I could have literally put a bullet into and would likely still run normally....
I did opt for the 2nd because I feel 4wd isn't needed on a vehicle like this in florida. Personally, I think anyone would be a damn fool to take these expensive new cars to the mud holes and rocks.... way too expensive to repair (and big time damage is guaranteed if you are out tearing ass off road. .. tjs are just cheap and easy to fix)
To me the compass feels very refined and almost stately and sophisticated coming from my beast
Why did I change? It was a hard decision... I liked not having a car payment and a bullet proof ride that was low cost to fix (relatively)......... but these new car creature comforts can be really seductive lol
Personally, I'm happy with comfortable small suv life.... (still way bigger than a wrangler)
The compass feels classy, and refined but still manly without having to drop a semi-mortgage.
Also... It looks cooler than everyone else's crossover egg look.
I don't like the start/stop thing, and I don't like the graphics. I Have not figured out how to remove them

    • @averageguytested
      @averageguytested  3 года назад

It does. I did a fair amount of research and this seems to be a common problem with these jeeps. It could be a simple as a worn bushing or joint. Dealers always tend to rip the whole expensive part out and replace them. Do you have a town shop that you can work with to try to identify the exact cause? Search or google front end noise on the renegade or compass and you’ll see lots of discussion about it.

The car still ran though. Checked it with the scanner and the codes pointed to issues with the hvac….did some research since any recommended fixes did not work ( battery off or resetting). • @Cubnprince

A couple things to point out on the review.
    1. The New compass rides on a stretched platform shared with the renegade.
    2. As mentioned the wheels can be swapped from both vehicles as the platform is the same.
    3. Anyone who purchases the Renegade ( i own one) expecting oodles of cargo space is out of their mind (the renegade is a sub compact suv)
4.The 2018 renegade can be equipped with the same radio. It is called the Uconnect 8.4 radio with navigation.
    5. The renegade’s climate controls are easier to reach as they are not as close to the shifter as they are on the New compass.
    6. The epa fuel economy on a FWD Renegade is 22 city / 30 highway. The New compass FWD is 22/31. So what is your point?.
    7. The Renegade trailhawk can be equipped with the split folding seats with center arm rest cupholders..
    8. The fuel tank on the new compass is maybe bigger than the renegade by a few gallons, so you are talking about two subs who are almost identical in fuel consumption.
    End of rant.

The compass has about 3 inches more leg room in the back seat and 1.5 more in the front roes in addition, it is a few inches wide and has 9 cubic feet more storage in the trunk. I own a renegade and a compass, the ride for me was the same, except when using the option to manually shift, which I can do on my renegade as well. When shifting myself instead of auto I get more people. The engine works it is just how the auto transmission works. I am no a mechanic but I would think that could get better with flash updates.

@@angling343 Nope we have good gas in Arizona it's 87. I found out what the problem was. This engine from fiat the 2.4 multi air burns 1 quart of oil every 2k miles during the break in period. Then some time during owner ship depending on driving style that number can dip to as low as 750 miles. It is listed on the jeep forum and came from jeep. The great part is I change my own oil so I changed the oil at 6k miles and I had about 2 quarts of oil in the pan and it was black as black can be. I know now so I add oil every 2k miles I now have 9500 miles and the cold starts with oil in the motor will go away. I have a Mazda RX 8 that has oil injectors and I only burn about a quart of oil every 5k miles. It has 86 thousand miles on it.

Too much car and not enough utility/SUV. And it's under-powered; if you tow a trailer, you'll be in the truck lanes uphill with your hazards on. The 2.4 is a terrible engine choice for this vehicle. The diesel engine needs to be an option for us in the USA.
