  • Moparinsiders recently had the 2019 Jeep Compass Trailhawk to review for the week. The Jeep Compass is an attractive compact SUV with a comfortable, quality interior with such features as dual-zone climate control, 8.4 Inch UConnect screen with Navigation, Apple carplay and Android Auto, heated seats and steering wheel plus much more.
The Compass Trailhawk is powered by the 2.4 liter Tigershark Multiair 4 cylinder which puts out 185 horsepower and 175 lb ft of torque, backed by a ZF 9-speed automatic transmission. The Trailhawk comes standard with Jeeps active drive low 4 wheel drive system, making it the most off-road capable vehicle in its class. This system is a full time 4 wheel drive system with a 4 wheel drive low mode that has a 20-1 crawl ratio. There is a rotary dial in the center console that allows you to choose different terrain modes, in the center of the dial are controls for 4 wheel drive low, hill descent control and a 4 wheel drive lock button.

What do you guys think of the 2019 Compass Trailhawk?

It's definitely a huge improvement from the previous body style. It would be nice if the trailhawk model had a V6 engine instead of the 4 cylinder engine. The display panel would be nice to have the clock shown in the area where the speedometer is. It's hard to view the time in the corner of the radio display especially when using Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. All in all for a compact/small SUV, it's definitely on par.

I live in WV so its great for me. These roads are always horrible, not sure it's as good as my 2011 Escape, but it looks rugged, good body, not about horsepower. I had a nice ZR2 Blazer with like 190, off roaded with it a bit, was great, just cheap ass inside etc. Chevy. Inside of this looks sweet, I really like the way the USB faces up, and the mode button is big, ports all very accessible. etc. Turns my head anytime I see one, so I'm going to get a Grey or White one when I trade in my crappy Veloster I shouldn't have gotten anyway. Uggh.

As a previous owner of a 2012 Grand Cherokee my evaluation so far since purchasing my 2019 Compass Trailhawk is it’s a cheaper version of the Grand Cherokee. Admittedly I regret my purchase. I was forced to give up my GC after an idiot plowed into the side of it at a high rate of speed; it was totaled by the other insurance company.

I recently got a 2020 and it's pretty cool. Need to get some more aggressive tires though. My 2017 Cherokee Trailhawk is still my first choice for off-road.

I purchased a 2019 Compass Trailhawk a few months ago. Before this I owned a 2012 Grand Cherokee. So my impression is the Compass is a cheaper version of the GC. The materials and construction are cheaper. It’s not a vehicle I want to keep more than a few years. I’d like to go back up to a GC as this vehicle is also a lot smaller inside and lacks a lot of amenities the GC comes with and standard equipment.

Velo1010 How are the transmissions in these cars???

TopSecretVid so my 2019 Compass shifts smoothly. I know some report rough shifting, but this could be a result of driving habits or possibly a flaw in that batch of trans.

It's OK but I wish the Cherokee were available in UK.

It would have been cool of it had a actual low range with a better crawl ratio like the Cherokee Trailhawk. But overall I think its a great little SUV.

I test drove a 2017 Cherokee Trailhawk after when my GC was totaled. I liked all the features: 4x4, power windows, locks, seats,, rear hatch, mirrors and self-dimming, plus it had leather seats. Now I wished that I had made that purchase over my 2019 Compass Trailhawk. My main reason I didn’t go with that Cherokee is the 97k miles it had on the odometer.

Needs more power. 1 engine is fine but should have 250hp and torque with 9 speed

The 2.0 Turbo 4 from the Cherokee would turn this into a little rocket. It would be nice to see that offered as an option.

The interior looks dated, not as posh as Mazda

Personally i'd still take that above average interior plus the overall safety and terrain benefits of a Jeep over a Mazda
