Got mine a couple of weeks ago and it’s a really good car! I traded In my Suzuki VITARA s for a top of the range Compass. My wife has got a BMW X3 and we prefer the Compass. Very good car!!
I recently purchased a 2018 compass Trailhawk. I thought it would be a great looking car with some more aggressive looking tires on it. Being trail rated and all I thought an all terrain tire would make it look more like a jeep should. After trying to find an all terrain tire for it I came to the conclusion that "trail rated" simply means you get a shiny thing stuck on the fender. I promise to do everything I can to help people from making the same stupid mistake I did by even considering a compass. Thanks for the only car I ever purchased that with 1500 miles I wish I never got it. GREAT ENGINEERING!!!!
Jeeps are very tough vehicles. My dad and I once towed a 18 foot double axel trailor filled with camping gear with a 92 Sahara halfway across Nebraska and Through the sand hills juat to go camping. Jeeps are a symbol of freedom and adventure in America. I like the way all of these newer models look too. I'd test drive any one of them.
It starts from £22k it’s obviously not going to come standard with all the stuff your saying! If you go for the higher trims you get most things as standard and if you go for the limited model there is only about 5 options everything else is standard. Which is much better than its rivals that have options list 10miles long!
Derek I usually like your reviews, but this time you went over the top. This is far from being the best crossover on the market, but to suggest that it is not even able to stay on the tarmac without the help of electronic devices is, frankly, quite outrageous.
Marek appeared to have gone out of his way to make himself appear uncomfortable w huge Ski Jacket and the hat while INSIDE the car!! He kept mispronouncing the name too.
His review was negative right from the beginning and totally not accurate of this vehicle at all . He hates it and we know it , he should have just not reviewed it at all .
I love driving my jeep in the US! It has a panoramic sunroof, and everything else that i need to drive in luxury. The best part about my jeep is that i can take it off the roads and have fun! This review is not the most accurate.
I never got the American view of sunroof/panoramic roof being a luxury feature, but OK, some like it I guess. In a straight line and on some gravel roads I'm sure this car is fine. On European roads this is an overpriced turd, and I was quite lenient in my appraisal :)

I imagine there may be different pricing and/or different level of finish on cars in your region. Jeep is one of the most expensive cars in its segment in Europe, while options and general finish are average compared to the competition.
Completly biased review...really. How about the look of the car that much more apealing, what about the fact that it behaves much better offroad than any of it's direct competitors, what about the above average finishing materials, what about the ground clearance, etc, etc. You only focused on what it dind't have than what it did offer. Live traffic...wtf?!!
I said it looks more like the Grand Cherokee. Most owners will never take it off road, and this is not the Trailhawk model. Above average finishing materials? Maybe by US standards.
Nop...i have driven the Fiat 500 and the latest Fiat X, also the Nissan Qas and a high-end Toyota Yaris from 2006. The Jeep have the best finishing...no noises and a special rubber on the dashboard that looks like leather and that is much better than the one used on the models i have mentioned.
I've taken my Compass offroad, and the amount of soft-touch materials is actualy quite astonishing. Basically everything above hip level is either soft rubber, or leatherette. I sat in a beatiful brand new Accord recently and was surprised by the hard plastic below the window!
2017 sales numbers for the Compass are small because they hardly made any in 2017. We couldn't even find one on the dealer lots in the US until Late Summer of 2017. When they came out they were more expensive than the Jeep Cherokee here...so a smaller car, for more money? No thanks...the prices have come down quite bit. And yes, it is supposed to look like a Grand Cherokee...they've said they styled it after it. Having said all that, with prices & rebates, a Cherokee can still be had for less money. I've driven a Compass Trailhawk, I'd buy it hands down over the Renegade, but since they all hover around the same price, I'd get a Cherokee over them both.
Looked at and drove the Compass, Rav4, Ford escape, Honda cr-v , Nissan rogue, wife refused to drive the chevy equinox based on looks... went back and got the Compass. not car experts but clearly the best 4WD system, most fun to drive and arguably the best looking. My wife thinks its the best looking by far. no clue where he is coming from with this review, maybe its the Europeans not actually having any dirt roads? ice and snow? Also dont get the pricing he was talking about unless euros are like the metric version of dollars because our compass was the best dollar for dollar for what you get with what we considered competitive small SUVs.
Jeep is overpriced in Europe. Comparably specced Compass Limited would cost around $30k in the US. In Europe it costs $46k. It's not exactly value for money.
Steve, I am in the same boat! Could not convince my wife to go for Nissan Rouge, Mazda CX-5, or Rav4 ! 8:> The minute she saw the 2 tone Compass, she was sold. It helps that we've owned a Grand Cherokee for the past 18 years and it's still going strong. If the knock on this car is the price, there are plenty of rebates in the US Market that will reduce the price. It's a very good looking Jeep.
Great review as always! I love hearing your biased European viewpoint on American cars! Hahaha! I agree that Jeep doesn’t seem to know what they want with the compass. In America these cars are selling very well and in large numbers. I’m seeing them everywhere. I know you have a Jeep SRT on your page from 2014 and I agree with most everything you said about it. But you should try to get a Jeep Grand Cherokee summit or overland trim.. I have heard very good things about the 2017+ facelift version (I live in the US). I don’t know how it is in europe, but the summit gets you a good car for the price. I’d like to hear your viewpoint on it. It’s my favorite American SUV, but it does have many downfalls compared to the European competition.
The problem with Jeep in Europe is that pay premium price for what essentially is a mass market car. This test Compass literally costs in Poland as much as a V8 Mustang. And Grand Cherokee is up there with BMW X5, Mercedes GLE, Audi Q7 for price, but not for quality. You really have to want to have a Jeep to buy one new. People are buying second hand imports from the US. As far as I'm concerned Wrangler is the only Jeep worth considering, because it's only competitor (Land Rover Defender) is gone. BTW, I've seen a bunch of JL Wrangler reviews, and I absolutely love it. But FCA is never going to let me drive one after this review :)
Marek Drives Yes I know exactly what you mean. The Jeep is built to compete with the Kia Sorrento and Ford Explorer in America... Many things are “cheap” on the jeep.. no full led tail lights, etc... Yes I have also watched the JL reviews. You never know they might give you one 😂. I think the JL will be much more popular than the JK because the JL looks very luxurious which is surprising. Leather stitched dash, etc.. I’m curious to see the build quality though..
Terrible review, finding it hard to keep the car out of a ditch or forgetting your phone if it's in a bit of side netting haha!!! That's not the cars fault mate

The Nissan Rogue Sport is the Quasqai (still have no idea if that's the proper way to write it) in the US. Except it's 1 facelift behind. Also: Why is the Compass radar sensor not centered on the bumper?
I like the compass but there are an awful lot of dissatisfied customers reviews from the States online if you search! Saying the engine cuts out on them with no warning even on the freeway/ motorway or they have lots of electrical issues. It has scared me from buying one. Have you experienced any difficulties?
Bren Stone No, we had three. Never cut out/off, quit running etc. never a problem. I think some mis conception maybe with 9spd trans?? Ours is FWD, 6 spd, no shifting issues. No electrical issues, none. The 20 model we just got has the engine programming to a Tee. Always power. (For normal driving, don’t know about racing. Seats are extremely comfortable. Sprung for heated and cooled seats. It’s just a great driving car to me. Best luck!
@@shiftintohigh5564 hi! Yes the model I'm interested in is FWD 1.6 diesel 6 speed. Similar to yours! It seems to be the 2.4 Tigershark engine that people aren't always satisfied with. Thanks for your help! You've put my mind at ease. Cheers!
Bren Stone Yes, 1st two, 18 and 19 model 2.4s had mediocre performance. The programming on the 20 really stepped up the usable torque. I would love to have a diesel choice lucky you!!👍👍😁.
@@shiftintohigh5564 well here, you either have a choice of 1.4 Petrol or 1.6 Diesel. By the end of the year though, the Compass 4XE Hybrid will be available with 237bhp. I really, really want a Jeep....any one will do...but having driven a couple recently I have to say they seem to be a decade behind other manufacturers. The interiors are just horrible....they may be robust but the materials are very low rent....and for the premium they charge this is just not good enough. I had a Grand Cherokee about 8years ago and loved it....nothing went wrong and it had character. Well, a fair comment. I guess what I am trying to say is that I like the brand and really enjoyed the Grand Cherokee I owned some years ago....but that they have just fallen behind.....and if they produced a competitive product it would be high on my shopping list as I like the brand.
Ah, I didn't consider the brand factor. Probably because in my eyes the reputation of this brand is really low, basically as you described it - maker of fallen behind, bad cars, which happen to be expensive for some mystical reason. And also because for me, the actual production constitutes the perceived value of a brand.

Take the Nissan and Compass offroading, your review may go a little different, if all you do is drive to the mall for fancy coats the cheaper less capable Nissan is probably a safer bet
The EEC {Europe} places a 10% tax on vehicles that are manufactured outside the EEC border, thus protecting manufactures inside the border. Then you need to pay a tariff and the import duty. Germany contralls the European bank {which is a private bank} making Germany control tax. Europe is a tax collector. The true price of the above vehicle should be 14% cheaper. Hope this helps.
We should differentiate between good cars and cars I like :) I like many relatively low-cost cars: Mazda MX-5, Suzuki Ignis, Honda Civic, KIA Niro, Ford Fiesta ST... Apparently I'm not as enthusiastic about some of them, as American reviewers would be. It's a Polish thing. We always look for a down side, and we don't smile a lot. Americans on the other hand smile all the time as if they overdosed nitrous oxide, and look for silver lining even in a bucket of horse manure.
None of those are standard in any crossover in the EU. What Jeep did wrong is that the highest option (Limited) misses a few options that should come as standard at this price.
I'm sure you watch The Fast Lane Car, and their Gold Mine Hill test. In most cases it's down to tires, and some city crossovers made it up stage 3. Doesn't need to be a Jeep.
Cant keep car on the road? The vehicles fault that you forget where you put your phone? Really? Countryman is better? Maybe for going to effete techno clubs. No credibility review.
I think Jeep has lost it's way but Jeep had lost it's way before Fiat took over. However, I do think this will sell in similar numbers to the previous jeeps as it is a bod oddball looking and some people want that
why do people even say that!!!! really have a hard time figuring it out. should every jeep look like the wrangler...should it be a on hit band? Is that it? Except for the patriot and old compass, every other model sell really good.
Actually this is not a rebadged Fiat. Lancia Voyager was a rebadged Chrysler Town&Country, but Fiat 500X and Jeep Renegade are two different cars (though with shared underpinnings), and Compass has no Fiat counterpart.
Sales is a very skewed stat and somehow you managed to skew it even more to determine how you review a car. No one thinks you got paid off by German or Japanese auto makers, I don't think you're good enough for that, no disrespect but you just don't have enough exposure. I think your bias comes from how sales affiliated you've become. You want to appeal to the masses so you use sales as a measuring stick. I can't trust someone who reviews based on mass appeal, I'd rather someone was genuine in how the product preforms at it's job, not the corporate revenue it has generated. No disrespect to you but I really hope no one ever posts a car review like this for any car.
Guess what? My 2018 Compass Limited 4x4 is still going strong. Nothings fallen off and apart from a couple of tyre punctures (which is not a reliability issue) has been replaced. Even the much mention wobbly armrest is as new. Another bonus is that it's not thrown me into a ditch and on mine there's a slot for the phone. I'll also point out unless it's charging my phone stays in my pocket because it syncs everytime with bluetooth so I won't forget where it is🙄. On my UK model, the kit Marek claimed was missing was fitted, was less expensive than he claimed AND had live traffic updates on the Sat Nav (with no annual subscription required).

Is that it? Except for the patriot and old compass, every other model sell really good.
eww a re-badged FIAT ( Fix It Again Tmrw ), no THX! Oh and another great review! Sir!
Jeep is just like lancia, basicaly an unreliable(no wonder, it's a fiat) depreciating monster(like all italian cars), but more expensive than a fiat.
Only the newest Renegade and Compass are based on Fiat platforms and there's not much reliability data about them.
Lancia were gorgeous cars .Shame it disappeared.
Compass 👎
