2009 Ford Focus. In a field dominated by imports, the Ford Focus proves domestic manufacturers can still build an affordable, reliable and highly efficient compact car. Available as a stylish sedan and sporty coupe, the Focus wears a number of faces, from frugal econobox to well-equipped touring car. Great gas mileage is only part of the Focus story, however, as the car is also loaded with a long list of standard comfort and safety equipment, as well as such innovative features as the SYNC audio system. i like that saying
"take care of it and it will take care of you"
My brother-in-law had one and during the early days of the pandemic was working from home and started letting my drive it because he didnt need it. I ended getting a job as courier and bought it from him about a year ago when it had 125k.
After putting 75k+ on it over the course of about 9 months, I still enjoy driving it. I did have a few big jobs (motormounts, bad heater switch, power window switch) but I'm still considering doing both front and back struts.
I got my 09 Focus from my dad. It already had 120K miles on it. In the last five years I drove this thing when I moved from MI to CA and CA to NY, as well as taking it to every corner of the country on road trips. It is so reliable! I got in a front end accident and this thing is still ticking!! Haven't had to get any repairs unrelated to the accident.
Yep. They are VERY reliable. My parents' '08 Focus has 260k miles, just recently replaced the original engine at like 240k miles (all thanks to not checking oil levels), been in two wrecks (one in which I caused 1.5k in damages to suspension components due to trying to do stunts in it. I went over a curb and smashed into a fence. You wouldn't even know it though looking at it). It still runs great! It actually feels great romping around on dirt roads with. The handling and tire grip is plenty enough to give you confidence on less-than-ideal roads.
@TruthOrStareTV I’d say it’s a pretty safe bet. Since I made my original comment I’m still driving this thing at 170k miles, and the only major repair I’ve done is replacing the evaporator core to fix the A/C.
My brother just got me this car for Christmas yesterday and it is amazing I absolutely love it
I've had mine since 09. Love it. 120,000 miles and still runs great. And imo, great looking. I lost the a/c in mine in 2013, which sucks, but aside from that, have no other real complaints.
Can you change cabin air filter? Do you know where it is?
Hmm. I do not know where it is. The problem, according to Ford, and a local mechanic was the evaporating core, and some lines with leaks in them. I upgraded to a 2015 Focus a few months ago after the engine vibration took its toll on all my engine mounts and transmission mount.
It's so bad. 2015 can be considered a new car without any problem. Ford may use cheap parts.
It was the 09 that had the issues, not the 15!
George Stevens aw sorry to hear that you had issues. I bought my '11 SES used with 36k miles in the summer of 13. Now im at 140k miles and havent had to put a dime into it. Just a loud ride when it comes to tire noise, and they seem to wear out early. Also the paint has peeled off of about 50-75% of each rim whoch is annoying but eh
I bought a pre-owned 2009 SE almost a month ago and I love it! The gas mileage is probably the best thing about this car. I really feel the difference from my previous vehicle, a Mazda Tribute. The Focus handles REALLY nicely, although it is quite noisy but nothing a little music can't cover up. It really does have a good acceleration and the trunk space is quite large. I am very pleased with my purchased.
I love my 08 focus sedan and wouldn't trade it for anything , it handles like a dream , gets great gas mileage and it looks great .
$22k oh my god!!!!!! i just bought one for $3k jesus.... lol
227k on mine you stole that.
Lol that's how much it was back in its time.
Is it a good car? I’m getting ready to buy one for 2k
@@yrh7867 it's a fantastic car mine has 165000 trouble free mile age be forewarned the focus has a cursory motor mounts tend to go every out 60-80000 miles not a expensive fix mine was $220 for part and labor other than that other than typical maintenance nothing has been needed
10 years mdafcr
I LOVE my Focus SES I got it brand new in 2008, and I have to say I love everything about it!
I have driven the cars they're talking about, and I completely disagree with them that the Focus has any more vibration or harshness that the Fit or Versa, It's simply not true. The Versa is nothing more than an uncomfortable go-cart! They didn't compare the Corolla or Civic, because the Focus blows them away in every category. The seats in the Focus are more comfortable than any in the compact group.
When you stomp the pedal to go around trucks with the 2.0 Liter, it kicks ass!
I remember knowing European Focus I was really excited after 4 years delay US spec is updating
and that thing came out
I have the 2009 Ford focus ses no problems I had a oil change I am at 180 thousand miles, I love my car. I would buy another just like it.
I bought my 2009 ford focus sel for $2850 upgraded to alpine subs and amps (which I would not recommend)
It has 211000 miles on it and still goes strong as my daily driver. Just always get your oil changed. Only thing I have had to do to it is get breaks and new tires.
Do you still own it ? How many maniles ? I’m looking at a 2009 ses 190k 5spd manual
@@ELKOBRA03 the 5spd manual was fun. Easier to maneuver in winter. Remember to look underneath for rust and break dust. Those two are big in New England. If you are south, don't worry.
Delending on how much the seller is asking it might be worth it. The only reason why i bought mine at 184k was because it was highway driving which didn't put as much stress on the car.
Drove my 09 focus from IL to NV. I was getting 41mpg
I’ve loved every Ford Focus I’ve had or been in.
I just got my 2011 SES sedan, I love it.
kyle51895 Great to hear! Sounds like an awesome car overall from everyone who has one 😁👍
I LOVE IT!! The coupe with the dark grille is aswome, and I can't wait to get it as my first car!
thanks guys. i saw some details which others failed to mention . thank you
Still got my 08 5 speed, charm to drive but lets go with the mod supports! :D
@doadams1 you have to make sure to dry off the insides of the door. I dry off the inside of the hood and trunk as well
I just put money down on one of these today. Lots of negative comments 😁. I mean yeah its not the best looking car but the interior makes up for it. I personally dont think it looks too bad i kinda like the box shaped theme its got goin
I love mine I put 40k on her this year with Uber it has 227k on her runs like it did in 2009 looks new I run royal purple in her and she's easy on gas I truly have no reason to gripe, she's gone above what I would ever expect of a smaller vehicle to go I did lose the A/C had a leak fixed it they do occasionally have problems with the A/C Compressor going out from what I have seen but I got lucky for now.
Im Gonna Purchase A 10' SE Sedan For My 18th B-Day. I Love This Little Car. :)
@FyeMusic really? do you like it? how much was it ? btw im looking forward to getting me one =)
Good Information about the older Focus since ii looking for a used SES Focus . Compared to the NEWER Focus ,this car has fewer problems than the current model or outgoing car.
the 08 Focus is the first car I've ever bought. amd I love it >:)
@gardnerbm SE or SES? Manual or Auto?
@pimpedn
the most I got on mine was 41.1mpg, set the cruise control at 70 and drove.
That one, actually looks really nice!!! I like the red one more than the silver one to be honest!
I rented a '10 focus with all the trimmings for a 1200 mile road trip. I like it. i just wish it looked a little better on the outside
I got a chance to drive a 2009 Focus with 3,000 miles on it 8 months ago and was VERY IMPRESSED with how well the car handles. I had just driven a Corolla (nice car too!), and this is no BS: the Ford Focus HANDLES better. Period. I'd buy the Ford over the Toyota after knowing how each drives. My only gripe with the Focus is that it needs to be a better looking car, but that still wouldn't stop me from getting one. Oh, and the car has PLENTY of adequate power....the naysayers are full of it.
Just bought mine yesterday for 2k with 160k miles
ssadboy_zach I’m getting mines on friday
Just traded up my 2009 SES Focus coupe manual for a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek manual. Got 186K miles out of the focus with out any serious maintenance bills, just changed the oil every 5,000 miles. They gave me $800 for her, but hey, it was reeeeally on its last legs. Sure going to miss the leather seats, moon roof, and everything it did for me!
I don't know about the 2009, but the 2008 doesn't have a trunk button on the inside. And while it looks like they were pushing the wrong remote button for the trunk, what they meant was that the trunk only unlocks itself. It stays in a closed position rather than springing wide open.
@AdrianC12345 It was a SES Auto black leather. I later tried to lease a black/black manual SES but the dealer couldnt get the payments under $300/mo.
I'm definitely getting the coupe ses w/ the moon and tune pack, it comes w/ a subwoofer.
The '10 Fusion is a nice car! Have you driven that yet?
I love my 09 focus
@Lexlus42 I have the SEL one step below the one you got.
The current Euro focus is on the same chassis as the mazda 3 and volvo S40. On the next redesign that will include the American market focus as well.
I need this car..
@Lexlus42 i have a 2008 SES, its pretty sweet! i drive it when ever i don't wanna waste so much gas while driving my f-150. its fun to drive!
2.0 here in italy is considered a big and powerful engine!! :O
Yeah a lot of cars have problems on the 1st year of a redesign, look up recalls for any model and usually if it has a recall it's on the 1st year of a redesign.
@doadams1 mine is grey and it gets dirty pretty fast. I'm always washing it, but I like the color
I got this car for my 18th B-day and I love it. fuck all the haters comparing it to the european model
i love everything about this car by the exception of the front lights but still is a great car, well thats my opinion...
Cool Cool. Well I'm thrilled my new Focus SEL. Sync is ahead of anything else in this price range.
lol. a light year is a distance, not time.
Samuel Dobrow dam this comment 5 years old and no reply goddam
@@Jacob-nr7hq exactly lol
I move cars for Hertz, so I get to drive all makes. I'm here to tell you that the Focus blows away the Corolla and Civic. It handles and rides better, has better power, and feels more dependable in traffic. I'm not biased, but only impressed with the new Ford autos.
Before you go down and plunk down the cash for an import, give Ford a try and see for youself.
GM and Chrysler have quite a way to go to be considered, but the Fords are superior!
yeah. i europe. in the states we get a sedan and coupe.
Trading my 2010 focus se only 82227 miles kkb states 11,000 bbv leasing a 2014 focus I love focuses because of the great hwy mpg of 36 since I travel over 80 miles one way.
@Mat3y182 I'm glad you live in Europe too.
I think they should do an RS versio of this, or at leats an SVT version. It'll be the modern day escort!
had one recently... then traded it for a 2013 dodge charger r/t. Gave that focus away & never looked back lol.
OMG THAT SAME THING HAPPENED TO US. My dad bought a Ford Focus brand new in 2010. He didn't like it and he got rearended one week before Christmas. We got the focus back and it had an issue with a leak in the trunk. We had to use the focus until March 2014 when my dad dragged a 5' 10" me in the backseat with my 6' brother all the way across the state to buy a 2013 Dodge Charger R/T Daytona. He's still got the Charger but he says he wishes he had kept the focus for me because it would have been a perfect first car.
anyone know how fast this car does 0-60 mph? 2008 ford focus se. im just wondering to check something out on my se.
It goes from 0 to 40 in 3 seconds but then it goes from 40 to 60 in like 6 seconds..
About 9sec
my grandpa might give me his, it has like 130,000 miles on it, i was also thinking about a ranger, anyone know what i should choose(it would be my first car and i wouldnt need anything much) he kept it in really nice condition
What do you need? If you don't need a truck than get the Focus. Simple as that. nicer car, faster, more fuel efficient, more fun. Mine has 113K on it and it runs fantastic.
Traxxasboy9087 my 11 just hit 130000 and i havent had to put a dime into it. If you can handle the lack of space go for the focus!
i got an opportunity to drive it FWD though the interior and exterior aboslutley took my breathe away but the fwd system seemed about as basic as my 99 taurus around corners, maybe its just me and my love of rwd cars. if i bought a fusion it would def be awd.
Is there an aux port?
Two, on the lower part of the dash.
I keep seeing people from other countries complain about the car... this isn;t exact and American dream car... I think its great for the price, though I always prefer at lear 2 more liters in an engine, preferably 3 more. It's a good buy.
@Catlow20 i just bought a focus SES. and that little thing kicks butt. Fast, smooth, Stylish, quiet, reliable, and fuel efficient.
WHY BUY ANYTHING ELSE.
a 3 litre V6 wouldnt fit in a focus, space is already tight with a 2 litre however i think the upgrade to the 2.5 litre that puts out 170ish horsepower would be a good idea, but their redesigning this car for 2010 so i guess we'll wait to see what they do with the engine.
Some one told me. Ford. Stands for fix or. Repair daily. Is. That true
I was told Found On Road Dead lol
I bought an '08 Ford Focus on Sat and although I went to the dealership looking to get a Fusion, I'm extremely happy I got this instead :) This car definitely has personality and it's fun to drive. Tons of features. Great on gas. Loveeee it.
Better yet, if you folks want to see a really good focus, there is the focus Hatch and sedan, also the ST and the RS...
I AM GOING TO BUY MY BROTHERS MINT CONTROL S.E.S. IT IS A VERY GOOD CAR.
What the derm? And it is focus? -1
Ford still makes great SUVs, trucks. The new mustang gt's are sweet, and the new fusions are finally getting to be about as good design wise as camrys and corollas.
I just went and test drove an 09 SE coupe 5spd. It was rode better and was definitaly more quiet than my friends 08 Cobalt. I like the fact it has 6 airbags, heated mirrors and steering wheel controls for saftey and convenience. I also went and looked at a Honda Fit and didnt like its awkward dash.
And to all you people saying the euro focus is better, almost EVERY car overseas isn't watered down like what we get here. Luckily Ford is bringing over the Fiesta so maybe you'll quit complaining.
No we won’t ever
i wouldn't call the Focus bad, i'd call it 10x better then corolla and civc and whatnot
but not as good as the Versa or GTI or several subaru models.
but its def a car i'm considering now.
I just traded my 09 focus for a 2014 corolla its so much nicer corolla sucked years ago but the 2014 is nice
yeah they are pretty beast
i own 2 and they can take a beating ill tell you that
good one.
@Epica124 i hear that, all i ever owned was fords, none of them ever broke down, always reliable as a rock, as far as im concerned the only affordable cars ill ever buy will be fords
@hdsred what are the things that Ford has that other brands don´t? I cannot think of anything. Here in Europe Ford is known for consuming oil in Diesel engines, and for being far from competitive in economy (mileage) numbers. Even so, I think that previous Focus is cool. But this one is simply weird.
If you want something special for this money - get a used BMW.
The European ford focus models are always more sporty, and way better looking than the american model. I wish they'd bring the focus coupe ST over to the states because over here, all I see are clunky awkwardly shaped sedans with random additions of chrome highlights. The focus used to be aimed at a younger audience, but currently, it's only major selling points are fuel economy and sync, which are great...for the middle age family buyers.
@Epica124 Don't you love it?
Wha year is dis car?
read the title
Consider his grammar
2009
2008
I love how Toyota doesn't recommend putting a snow plow on their trucks because of how weak their frames are.
i love my 09 focus....ugly on the outside but the inside is awesome....
Still driving my SES 170k on it ...swallowed 2 CD and decided not to spit them out and sync stopped caring to pair my phone 😋
Get a AUX cord
@daizmiester The next Focus is okay looking, I liked the older one more.
I just got an 09 coupe for 14.5 used lol I actually love the damn thing now. Funny thing about this car, its really small but you dont feel like it. hell its saving me money spending 20 bucks and fill it up completely, going from an f150 that got 17 GALLONS TO THE MILE /facepalm
@bhiml got that right homie
I know. I read what you wrote. I just asked if you DRIVEN it yet...
Manual windows
Why is this car still been made, I think it's about 10 years old the basic platform, even here in Mexico we have the European platform and it is much better than the US version, funnily enough I think the US focus, is made in Mexico. And the Mexican focus is made in Spain.
Yes you are right. But you also have to remember that they are the only domestic car maker who isn't in need of a bail out. Their company is huge in europe and all over the world. Your buying a car that is american made from a company whose lively hood in the next 6 years is assured.
i'd take a fiesta over a focus just based on design alone. ford is coming up, though!
I saw one of these today at a dealership with 50k miles for 6 thousand
Must be a ses
@@timewalker6654 it was fully loaded and was a hard find but I looked today and of course someone bought it
@Lexlus42 Oh I really eo enjoy it. New car no problems and on and on. I'm glad I have it.
@maverick3429 Not ever one well though. But for here it's to each his own. Either way I'm gald I own a Ford after all these years.
July 23, 2018 anyone?

Hey! It's Drummer February 1st 2019 💟
@EpiDemic117 Well for one example Toyota Tacomas are made in Tijuana, Mexico. I can give you more if you'd like. And actually two of them own Ford's, one drives a Cadillac and one owns a Lincoln. These cars are just as expensive as Toyota's. Not to mention if Toyota's are such great vehicles then why have there been close to 20 million recalls? No other car brand has nearly been recalled that much. Not to mention Ford has passed Toyota in reliability. So, your point is?
These remind me of Soviet cars.
It has no interesting features.
The Focus SEL has voice activated Sync sounds excellent to me. Just say the name of the artist when you have thousands on your Ipod and it plays? Seriously? Or voice activated Bluetooth. Mine has heated leather seats, ambient lighting with 8 colors, 6 disc with sub in the back (thats SOME of the features)... around 38 mpg avg. Hmmm, yeah its not the best looking car, but where do you spend most of your time?
i dont understand about ford's design,i mean wats da design all about
Ford is the only American Company I trust. The Ford Focus that gets estimated 35MPG.
@2kapufa I really don't feel like getting into an internet debate between US and europe, so whatever, if you have different taste in cars then go watch your european car videos. I just went on here to see what other people thought about the car I just got
