    A properly jetted pilot/slow circuit will never cause this to happen due to the circumstances you've explained. Also most carbs have a cutaway section on the throttle slide valve helping to prevent this situation even more.

  • @dbeaumier325
    @dbeaumier325 3 года назад +8

    It still gets oil as the higher vacuum pulls more fuel from the pilot. Even though it’s a small jet. The compression doesn’t slow you down it’s the vacuum on the intake. Which is strong. All the vacuum will still pull SOME fuel instead of pulling from the main it pulls from the pilot. I run 40:1 with full synthetic for longevity of the engine. I engine brake all the time never an issue. But also rev match into the downshift and continue to rev match and downshift through the gears as I’m slowing down. Giving the engine an extra bit of fuel. Regardless it doesn’t matter. Your piston looks like you ran it lean. Causing you to burn all your lube up running dry. Also downshifting and rev matching is how you should ride it’s easier to stay in the right gear keeping the rpms just in the power band range so exiting the corner you’ll be in the right gear and back in power band once you open the throttle.

    Honestly I’ve been riding 2 strokes for a long time now and I engine break literally every time I ride and am yet to blow up my engine, I have a 80cc motorized bicycle and I engine brake more than I actually use the brakes, I also have a honda cr125 and keep in mind I’m a trail rider so I go up and down hills all day and engine brake, yes on paper this makes sense but in reality I’m willing to argue that engine braking is not bad for your engine, if what you are saying was actually how it was then you would be wide open on your dirtbike, as fast as you can go and when you let off your throttle the engine would lean out like crazy and start to idle super high, not only that but when you got back on the throttle I imagine it would still be lean for a second until it could get fuel back to the engine so it would be super zingy and maybe even bog, I understand your concept but the evidence just really isn’t there in my opinion at least.

      Robert Luongo probably just your clutch is a bit warn out, but no clutch is perfect. For example, put any bike on a stand, but it in first, clutch in and the wheel will start to rotate, faster when revved. But usually you could stop the wheel moving with your hand, cause the clutch is out and there’s not much friction when it’s out. But if it’s worn out it sometimes sticks when out, or if the cables too tight.

    You honestly don't believe this nonsense with engine braking ? Most engine damage would be from stupid lead fuel / oil mixes and poor oil. Poorly jetted carb and a general lack of maintenance by not changing pistons and rings when you should. A leaky base gasket will melt pistons and seize motors too. From aircooled to watercooled race bikes , I've never had a issue from engine braking and yet i live in a hotter climate

    • @MikeHunt-bg8sh
      @MikeHunt-bg8sh 3 года назад +1

      I believe that this nonsense is true, the reason that it is so common is because all the new riders switch from 4 strokes to 2 strokes and don’t realise that when you come off of the throttle and the engine is at 5000rpm and it’s only getting 1000rpm of oil, that pretty much everything isn’t getting enough lubrication, resulting in the ring expanding and catching a port from all the heat, or the piston and ring melting and probably more

    • @richracing7420
      @richracing7420 3 года назад

      @@MikeHunt-bg8sh Never rebuilt a 2 stroke? Lubrication at no throttle isnt an issue, unless you plan on hooking up your bike to a car and dragging it a couple of miles in gear while off.
      The oil coats the internal parts and is fine for the engine, when the throttle is off as the motor isnt doing any work therefore generating little heat and load. The oil/fuel being pulled from idle is absolutely fine for when your engine braking.
      When you rebuild a 2 stroke there is plenty of oil coating everything to keep the motor lubricated even in instances where oil/fuel flow slows down

    • @richracing7420
      @richracing7420 3 года назад +1

      I agree. 2 strokes blow up either with low octane fuel, running pistons with 100 of hours on them, or just plain stupidity like putting no oil in fuel.
      For it to be an issue you would pretty much have to tow the bikes for miles in gear at high speed. Even then I question whether anything would happen because 2 strokes don't become bone dry when shut off. There is always a thin coat of oil on all the parts from the last time the engine ran

    • @mrdilligaf1968
      @mrdilligaf1968 3 года назад

      @randy s maintenance is everything on any bike. They blow because people use the wong oils , wrong oil to fuel mixes and don't perform piston changes when they should. I'm yet to ever have a 2 strole blow up due to engine braking. Total myth. I have a IT490 with a YZ 490 barrel. To cool the motor after a long high speed run , i hit the kill switch or reach down for the chocke. No spark or excess fuel n oil cools the cylinder enough after a big run to prevent seizure. Been a very long time since I've done a full motor build on that !

      @@nickjones3820 motor isn't under load with the throttle off, which generates more heat than just raw rpm.
      It's like being in first gear high rpm up a hill is an easier load on the motor, than trying to have the motor pull to tall of a gear.

      @@nickjones3820 engines are under the most stress when loaded. Coasting a two stroke with the throttle off is a condition in which the motor isn't working very hard and generating less heat. You don't need a lot of oil for that. There is still an oil film coating all the parts not to mention oil being pulled in from idle.
      Unless you literally hook up your 2 stroke bike to a car and drag it behind your car in gear, oil lubrication isn't an issue in terms of engine braking in a two stroke.
