- As most of you know, one of our YZ125's blew up because the air filter cage came out of the air boot. But the question still remained, What actually happened to cause the motor to lose compression. We dig in and find out in this video!

Wow how did I miss this invite. This was awesome meet up
Great shop to hang out at, hello from Canada Morgan !
Hey there!! 🇨🇦
I blame it on a clump of grit mixed with 2T oil that got through from the open air box.... the kid is off the hook😉
Hahaha
Maybe from the extra air from loose filter and sand. Once I pulled my cylinder off my yz125 and the ring was turned around completely!
Extra air from air cleaner it ran lean and sand blasted.
Yep
I just did the same thing to my 2016 TC 250 I pulled the cylinder off and the rings are almost gone the piston is in surprisingly good shape just two front seizure marks in the front and vertical lines all the way around I wish I could send a picture lol. Hey thanks for all your videos Morgan!
Hey bro help me find a new stock yamaha cylinder head for 2003 yz125 please has 5 speed trans God bless..
Bridge got hot. Most likely from small air leak. Those plastic vforce can cause it. Good to use thin coat of motoseal on them.
“Fresh top end low hours”
Translate
“Just put a new piston in it and found the cylinder is junk, should run a few more hours”
🔥I’m thinking cylinder had a wound on the bridge exhaust side from b4, they put new top end and slapped back together🔥the air filter situation just cause pre mature wear and she got hot🔥👊🔥🔨⚙️👊
Do you have something against wiseco pistons? Is vertex a better piston?
Vertex is much better
Is there suppose to be coolant in the crank when spinning it?
No
So were rolling the dice on the crank ?
Also, clearly someone has already done the quickie top end and stuff it in your ass job. The CYLINDER wore that new piston in and done.
Yeah, going to roll the dice on the crank because he will be riding his 100 in races for the rest of the year and can ride the 125 a bunch before it matters and figure out if it’s ok.
How much do you save sending it out too have done for you? Rather then having them just do everything from square one
What do you mean by do everything. They don’t build motors. Just replate cylinders
gOOD jOB!! It is not about just fixing things. It is about learning,(and teaching), why this may have happened. We try to impress on folks that the only "DUMB" question is the one you didn't want to ask. Usually, dumb questions will lead to a lot of good education and information. Us guys just can not stand to think we may not know something. More that a few times when talking to a gal on the phone I will say..."He is sitting there asking you questions, right"? I tell her to let me talk to him, I won't make him feel like an idiot.
I hear ya. It’s all about learning
It’s kinda of a shity design the air box on the re style kit. Just zip ties to hold filter cage on the box.
Yeah
Ended up being a lot of water in the carb on 22 tc 250. Previous owner had vp gas in it. I've seen a few bikes now that have sat for a little while with vp and the bikes wouldn't run.
Good to know
Looks like it got hot and ran hard or leaned out
Did you check the ring groove? Maybe the dirt packed up behind the ring and put too much pressure on the bridge.
Good idea
One has to wonder if the holes in the piston which are there to lubricate that area got some dirt in them which lead to the failure.
They were clean now but who knows
How many hours do those cranks last with proper maintenance?
Depending on how hard the person rides between 150-250 hrs
@@highlandcycles oh ok 👍
Did the internals of the motor feel gritty and is there a need to flush the bottom end out with anything 👍
No they don’t. They feel great so we are going to run it
RUclips channels getting big enough you have bot commenters now!
I know. So annoying
@@highlandcycles take as a compliment! Great things ahead man
Shit happens
It does
Do you not like wiseco pistons?
No I don’t.
@@highlandcycles why don't you?
@@ShaneAllen517 they have a reputation for growing too much when hot and seizing. I’ve seen it. They have the nick name seize-co
I Don't see the kids' RUclips channel link in the description!
He doesn't have one
@@highlandcycles he said in the video he did and you said it would be in the description lol
