    Thanks Joe, your videos are great. Both highly informative and entertaining. As a Garmin R10 owner for about a year I initially thought the MLM2 was going to be a far superior product and make the R10 obsolete. I couldn't have been more wrong. Apart from the spin axis not being as accurate everything else about the R10 is fantastic. All the faults with the MLM2 have been painful to watch and in reality all it offers is a pretty bland driving range experience that requires the ridiculously expensive RPT balls. Sure the R10 works better with the RCT balls but it also works Ok with normal balls and the RCT balls, whilst not cheap, are half the price of the RPT balls. I really thought I would eventually 'upgrade' to the MLM2 but I'm thinking I'll definitely stick with the Garmin and eventually upgrade when they release the Garmin R20. 😂
    I mainly use my R10 at the range or in a net setup at my club and both experiences are equally enjoyable. There are two ranges that I mainly go to and they have very different quality range balls. One the balls fly much shorter. e.g. if I'm hitting my 140 club the balls only seem to carry approximately 120 but I have found by setting the altitude to approximately 2,000m I get distances closer to what I would expect and they have Trackman in every bay and the Garmin is pretty close. At my home course outdoor range the balls seem to fly normal distance so no need to tamper with the altitude. Unless I want to pretend I'm Bryson DeChambeau and hit my 7 iron 220! 😂
    Thanks again for the great content. 👍

      Love it mate! Thanks for that comment and I agree with everything you said. I think the Garmin gets negative comments because it estimates a lot of things. But truth be told those estimations are still within 1 or 2 degrees tolerance. I think the Garmin is a fantastic unit and I'm excited and really hoping Garmin is working on the next version.

      “Apart from the spin axis not being as accurate…” - to me, that just trumps everything else. Spin axis is critical to accurate shot shape; without it, can’t rely on the results. I had the R10 and it was really frustrating in that regard. So MLM2 wins hands down for me.
      But to each their own.
      R10 for sure has a more polished app than the MLM2. If Garmin comes out with a device that can accurately measure spin axis - maybe the R20? -I’ll for sure consider it.

      I can’t disagree more. The R10 is a a toy. If you hit any type of shot shape with the R10 it doesn’t read it properly and is giving you a educated guess.. for example a push draw will show a straight push on the r10 every single time. Although the MLM2 Pro has some connection issues with third party apps, the device itself as well as the app are incredible.

    • @JLagGOLF
      @JLagGOLF  Год назад +4

      @@DanC1515 You gotta give the R10 a bit of credit it really started the segment. It really pushed the market and gave your average golfer a launch monitor that is pretty accurate! Yes I agree the shot shape is not right 100 percent of the time and the unit can't read gear effect so it is never going to be great with woods or drivers. I have done videos on this... However you get a really good simulation golf experience and it gets you practicing at home. I totally agree the MLM2PRO is a step up in hardware and I LOVE the calculated spin axis indoors. That is genius... However the app is extremely buggy and it needs a lot of work to get it to being a smooth good user experience for everyone. I do think it will get there though.. it will just take time.

    Great video - I recently got the MLM2 been very happy with it. My connection issues have not been bad, much easier with Wi-Fi internet connection when available. I have noticed when I am indoors or outdoors hitting into the net and choose Rapsodo ball my yardages were 15-20 yards off each club except for wedges. If I choose premium ball it’s fine. No Landscape mode in simulation is very lame also can’t add another player. However Awesome Golf app is great with it just got it and you were spot on. Thanks for detailed video!

    Amazing video that answers most of what i looked for. The Rapsodo is basically at least twice, if not three times expensive, in use if you want the spin and be able to play courses on third party apps. And it disconnects at least once every five minutes, and on top of that, have a pretty useless app, that gets even more shafted if you do not pay $200 us a year and $85 per dozen of balls, which you may not even use in real life.

      I'm definitely going to have to do an updated version of this video! There have definitely been a lot of software updates and just troubleshooting from myself that has fixed a lot of the issues with the Rapsodo. Right now if it's my money there's no question which one I'm buying... the MLM2PRO. That's because I really value that accurate spin axis indoors and now there is the amazing GS Pro connector. That being said there is still a use case for the Garmin! It's still a fantastic device and there are still a lot of pros to having the Garmin.

    Great video Joe, you pretty much covered everything, I’m happy to stick with my R10 for now, it’s not perfect but for my level of skill it gets me swinging my clubs every day, I use Awesome Golf with it and can play their courses which are very enjoyable. Even if I was buying for the first time now I would still pick the R10, I feel Rapsodo is way too expensive for a sub 1k launch monitor, the fees of $300 bucks a year feel more like I’m renting the unit not buying it, at least with the stickers the balls are taken out of play, seems there trying to scalp us at every turn, what’s to stop them upping the yearly fees, they can just disable your device anytime they want, I really don’t like to be stood over like that, if Garmin doesn’t come up with a more advanced unit in time I will get the Sky Track, it’s more expensive but at least I won’t be paying a ransom to a company to use something I paid a $1000 bucks for, just my thoughts.cheers mate

    Hi there. Re your disconnection issues. I have found since the last update I have had no disconnection issues. The only time I do get disconnection is when I take my phone (which I'm using) to far away from the mlm pro. I've played courses with awesome golf, then practice with it's own app continuous with no connection issues. The only problem I get is when my phone goes flat. When using the practice for chipping, it's read each and every chip/direction exactly right. I've only practiced between 5m and 20m and each time it's accurate. This is all outside using a net and old premium balls to. So yeah, my experience with it now after updates is a positive one. So a couple of things to remember, keep your device close to the mlm2pro all the time and for better reading accuracy and less miss reads make sure if using indoors there is plenty of light for the camera to see the ball spinning properly. I mean, would you drive your car at night with your sunglasses on😊. Great device and I'd fully recommend it. Regards David from Perth. The home of Ron Chopper😂

    • @JLagGOLF
      @JLagGOLF  Год назад +1

      Hey David I think the connection issues are slowly getting better and I'm starting to think it might have something to do with the device people are running it on. I use an iPad pro and it's not a great experience. I have played with my iPad in the holder of the MLM2PRO and it has no bearing on connectivity.. my iPad where I put it is only around 5-6 feet from my unit so if it can't connect that far there are bigger issues here 🤣🤣. Yes the longer chip shots will register however if you try doing some basic bump and run shots I would be really interested to see if your unit picks them up. Anything that lands say 6 - 12 feet doesn't register. The issue with this is when you inevitably leave yourself a short sided chip shot while playing simulated golf on e6 for example you are going to have to hit it past the hole as it won't register the short chip shots and then you will make a bogey instead of a par. I have shown in multiple videos with lights completely on and off I still get the same results. I spoke with justin from Rapsodo directly about this and he said I have ample light in my setting. I think it's just early days for this product and I think it will get better but for me at this point it's more of a full swing practice unit than something to use for home Sim golf. And it is amazing at that! The data is great.
      Also I love Perth it's such a beautiful place! I used to live in Hillary's as a kid.. I remember playing one of my favorite courses to this day Carramar golf course! Such a good track and tough as well.

      Hi and thanks for that in-depth reply. It sounds like it's iPad issues maybe? Maybe not as compatible as Android? Which in itself is unusual as I think being a American product, it would of been developed around iOS? I'll be happy when I can finally connect my PC laptop directly. I believe the updates are on their way? Currently to connect my PC I use Dex to connect via my Samsung phone (which is leaning against the Rapsodo. That way I can have my large laptop screen right in front of me (connected via Bluetooth to my phone). I have no issues of loss connections etc. Other than either my phone or laptop battery going flat first🤪. For your reference, I'll try doing 6ft chips tomorrow ok and let you know the results.

But basically anything below 2.5m, forget it! Seems 3m and over record nearly everytime. The mlm2pro was placed about 6ft 10inch behind (2.1m) from where the hitting area was. I had a tape measure to see how accurate it was and it seemed to be within a few 100mm, so pretty good. Tho with my game I tend to measure things in 10s of metres 😁. Also what a great video.
    Accurately wraps up both units and condenses the info down to a palatable level.
    Maybe the ideal situation currently is to buy both units?
    The rapsodo has the accuracy but at a higher outlay and high ongoing cost.
    If the unit had no connection issues, an updated range and good courses with landscape, elevation and better physics then it would instantly be worth the money.
    3rd party connections would then be a complete bonus and a value add.
    The main issue is all theabove suggestions don't seem to exist yet and the 3rd party options are limited or have connection issues or bugs (like no spin axis in E6 connect)
    Im still waiting and will continue to wait before i buy as i really really value the accuracy over anything else but cant justify those costs for a unit with issues...

    Another great video, thanks for the in depth analysis, Joe.
    Can I ask, do either the MLM2Pro or R10 calculate (or measure) side-spin, and do we know how this impacts the ball flight and distances? The reason I'm asking, David Maxfield put up a video about E6 and MLM, and had a little snipper that pointed to the spin axis bug. The snippet also noted that side spin wasn't being determined correctly, either, and that there was no timetable to fix that. I'm wondering how that would impact the E6 experience and whether one device should do side spin better than the other (you would think this would be MLM2Pro given the camera and RCT balls).

    Very informative video. Quick question, this is the initial launch MLM2, the Garmin has been on the market for a few years, did it have similar issues when it first launch?
    If so, then I would expect the MLM2 to fix the issues with a 2024 software update!

    • @JLagGOLF
      @JLagGOLF  Год назад +1

      Hey Scott there were issues with the Garmin R10 but nothing like what we are seeing with the MLM2PRO. Most of the issues with the Garmin R10 were algorithm issues with the estimated spin. The chipping has also improved a lot since launch. I definitely think there is an element of that with the MLM2PRO but these disconnections and the instability a lot of people are having are far beyond anything we saw from the R10. I do think it will improve with time and I have my fingers crossed 🤞🤞

    • @JLagGOLF
      @JLagGOLF  Год назад

      Hey Stewart so I know they have acknowledged the disconnection issues and are working to try and fix them for everyone. As for the chipping I haven't heard anything from them and I have no idea if they are trying to make the unit better in that regard... They could turn around and say that's what chipping is like and just not address it. I don't think they will.. I believe that the chipping experience will get better. I have a very small channel so I don't even know if they watch my videos or if I'm even on their radar (I highly doubt I am). I would love to work with them to make the product a better experience for everyone.
      As far as Garmin and the next launch monitor no I haven't heard a peep. Garmin can go either way.. they could be working on a gen 2 product or they might not be it's really hard to tell with them. They have so many products out in different categories and some of them only have follow up products and some don't. I don't think we will hear about the R20 until it's released! Great video, thanks! I’ve actually been leaning Rhapsodo until watching this and think I might do the R10 now.
    My only concern is the side spin and shot shaping. I’ve been working on my slice with my driver and longer clubs and don’t want to think I’m hitting straight just to get on the course and sail it right every time. Is there a combination of metrics you can look at in the R10 to signify it would’ve sliced even if it shows up as straight?

    • @JLagGOLF
      @JLagGOLF  Год назад +3

      Hey mate definitely check out my three most recent videos on my channel. Someone has actually made a connector for GS Pro now for the Rapsodo! Which tbh is a game changer. I have also emailed Rapsodo asking them about chipping and other things and they have been following my videos and are working on the chipping. So I have faith that the chipping will get resolved. If I was personally going to spend my money now I would get the Rapsodo.. yes there are subscription fees each year and yes you need to use the RPT balls or balls with dots on but for me personally (and I think you will be in the same boat) I love that with the Rapsodo I can hit balls and never be second guessing the ball flight. That's where I'm at currently.. yes there are still some advantages to the r10 like no subscription fees and chipping (currently).
      In terms of a combination of metrics for misreads not really.. the R10 like I've shown in my driver spin axis test it really can't take gear effect into account and this is the biggest downfall. For me if it misses the club data then that's definitely a tell because the unit will just take the HLA (horizontal launch angle) and go dead straight.
      I think if you're really after something to work on shot shape then between R10 and Rapsodo MLM2PRO it's definitely the MLM2PRO you want.
      Hope that helps!

    • @JLagGOLF
      @JLagGOLF  10 месяцев назад +3

      Thanks mate I appreciate that! So with connectivity quick answer for me yes.. since this video Rapsodo has come out with a new quick connect method which is absolutely fantastic! It's now a lot easier to connect. If it occasionally does disconnect it generally reconnects by itself which again is a massive pro. I have found that it doesn't for whatever reason like my router! So I have a wifi extender in my garage now that I connect my iPad and MLM2PRO up to and use the home wifi method and I have had zero disconnects using the Rapsodo app! It's solid. I also dont have any issues using the 3rd party apps as they have also been updated and fixed. I never struggled with awesome golf that was always solid but e6 was very hit and miss.. I'm happy to say now for me it works great. I do get a fair few no reads using e6 though which is random.
      There are still some users having difficulties with e6 and connecting it up.
      If I was going to choose now between them for me building a Sim there's no doubt I'd be getting the MLM2PRO just for the accurate ball flight!
      I think the Garmin still has its place being really an ultra affordable unit and it connects a lot better to GS Pro as well being able to directly connect but for me I really value the MLM2PRO data and ball flight accuracy.
      Hope that helps.

    Just curious, if you had the money or option to get a older Skytrak for around double the price of an R10, would you have rather went with that as your launch monitor or would you still have went with the R10? I am just starting and cannot decide which way to go. I think I can get an older Skytrak for $1200. I know it's more money, but for $600 more, would I be getting a much better setup for Sim Golf. I will mainly be using it to play GSPro and not for practice, so maybe the Skytrak is overkill. Plus, I don't know what software Skytrak supports, I suppose you can play GSPro with it. I might be better off getting the Garmin and just saving the extra cash for a better Projector or Gaming Laptop. Love your channel, and thanks in advance for advice.

      Thanks mate! So the Garmin works great for Sim golf and GS Pro connection. You can connect the skytrak to GS Pro and I haven't used it but everything I've heard works great. The thing I really don't like with skytrak and the reason I didn't buy the original was the shot lag... The lag between impact and the ball flight just drive me mad 🤣. Having said that the skytrak would absolutely be better than the r10 for a Sim experience. Honestly the putting in GS Pro is fantastic and having a unit that gives you putting all within the unit is a massive advantage. I don't know your budget but for me a used GC2 is the best "budget" (yes it is a bit more expensive) device you can get. It's a big step up from skytrak and it doesn't have any subscription fees. Because a lot of the old GS Pro users had them as well they integrate really well with it. Whats the connection like at the range? And forgive me if you said this, does the Pro have the option for the GS Pro courses? Whichever I get I want the option to do both simulations/training and taking it to the range. I love the data the pro gives but I dont want to be disconnected every 5 minutes.

    • @JLagGOLF
      @JLagGOLF  9 месяцев назад +1

      Hey mate, it's amazing how this sport grabs us and we get addicted! So Rapsodo has done a lot of work with the connection issues and I'm up to a point now where I don't have any connection issues in my home or outside. I'm outside. I'm obviously using the direct connection method where the Rapsodo emits its own Wi-Fi signal and you connect your phone up to that. At home I found that using a Wi-Fi extender has completely fixed my connection issues. In saying that I did have a random disconnect the other day when I was playing awesome golf but you can have disconnects with any unit now. This unit is amazing at the range as well because you get a shot tracer which is really cool. And the distances I was getting at the range were actually legit compared to what I get at home because it has a range ball mode. It must just add 10% on or something to the total or carry yardage.
      You can hook the MLM 2 Pro up to GS Pro using Springboks connector and then screen mirroring from your device to your computer. The software essentially takes a screenshot of your data on the air play window and then puts that into GS Pro. It's not the most elegant solution but it works. I know that people with Android phones though are having trouble with the connector working due to the way the actual app displays the information. It's not going to be as easy or reliable as the Garmin R10 connection that directly Bluetooth to your laptop or computer, but at the end of the day at least you know. The ball flight is going to be correct due to the way the MLM 2 Pro can calculate spin axis.
      If it was my money I would personally get the MLM 2 Pro. Yes, there'll be a bit more fiddling around getting it connected to GS Pro, but I personally think it's worth it to get the accurate data. Other people who just don't want to have the extra steps or arent computer savvy would probably benefit from getting the Garmin. I do have a lot of people contacting me though saying that are struggling to get the garmin connected and we have to do a bit of troubleshooting. I think anytime you're using something that is an officially supported with a software you're always going to have little issues. But either way you go, you'll be able to get it connected eventually if you really want to.

      Do you have an update you could provide me on if all or some of the difficulties of the MLM2Pro have been resolved? I like the Garmin R10s app that you showed and ease of use but would prefer having the cameras/ accuracy of the Rapsodo.
      Does the MLM2pro have GSPro and landscape now? Can you use regular balls with the MLM2Pro?
      Also, maybe on the flip side, has the Garmin had and improvement in accuracy or performance overall?
      Thanks!

      Thanks mate! So you don't need to spend as much as you think. On the GS Pro website it has minimum requirements for what experience you want. But if you were to buy something like this : www.jbhifi.com.au/products/hp-victus-16-fhd-144hz-gaming-laptop-12th-gen-intel-i5-geforce-rtx-3050ti?ab_version=B&gclid=Cj0KCQjwy9-kBhCHARIsAHpBjHgrD-uQbdeYNCMZdfvvAAMS-abclLEAUdbJnVfke_hqR4O2SQseG10aAov-EALw_wcB
      You should be able to run GS Pro on medium to high settings at 1080p. I haven't looked at the specs entirely but it has a 3050ti which is a strong card.

      Ideally 6ft unit to ball then at least 8ft ball to screen.. I have 10ft ball to screen and I find the longer ball to screen distance the better. That being said I did do a test where I went below the minimum recommended distances and the R10 actually worked pretty well 🤣.

      Thanks for that Stephen! A lot of them have been resolved which is good. For the disconnects I figured out it was my router and now connect up to a wifi extender in my garage and the connection within the Rapsodo app is completely stable with zero disconnects.
      The 3rd party apps like e6 and awesome golf still have a bit of trouble with connection especially e6. A lot of people in the community still have trouble staying connected with e6.
      Chipping is the biggest thing... Rapsodo has admitted that chipping isn't great and they said they were working on a fix however unfortunately we are still waiting.
      We do now have a connector for GS Pro! And it is really quite good.
      So overall there is still a bit of work for Rapsodo to do but they are definitely moving in the right direction and best of all they actually listen and respond to the community.

    Thanks mate, super insightful.
    I use my R10 mostly on the range and during practice rounds on course.
    Especially on course using my gaming ball helped me gap my wedges tremendously.
    Using three different swings, I can now get 12 different distances anywhere between 15 to 108m, using my 4 wedges.
    Anyway, the only problem I have on course is that it almost always estimates my spin rates to be 1000-3500 on my wedges, whereas I know I spin my lobwedge close to 10,000 on full shots, for example. Any ideas how to fix that?

    • @JLagGOLF
      @JLagGOLF  Год назад

      Hey mate that's a fantastic idea gapping on course when it's not busy. Really odd though those estimates spins?? It definitely shouldn't be that low. I would assume it's throwing off the carry yardages? I'm not sure how to fix that tbh I'll try do a bit of digging and see what I can find.

  • @PauloG100

    I don't have the R10 so I can't comment on that.
    I do have Skytrak and the MLM2.
    At the moment I am keeping both but the MLM2 is excellent and I have no connection problems at all.
    I have to smile when people get so het up about the annual cost of the MLM2 (after the 1st year). I don't like subscriptions any more than the next guy but come on, if you can afford to play golf, you can afford that small amount each year. Skytrak also has a £100 plus sub each year for the game improvement plan, which is pretty much a must-have, so not much difference there. Then the balls. I have bought a box of 12, plus the 3 that come with the MLM2. I would estimate they will be fine for at least 6 months, so again, it's not a big deal cost-wise.
    If someone is serious about improving their game with ultra-accurate numbers then the MLM2 seems to be the best budget option.

    • @KyleS860
      @KyleS860 Год назад

      Unfortunately for me just being able to afford something isn’t a good enough reason to pay for it. On principle I need to get some value. At the moment it’s like buying a car, and having to pay a subscription to use the radio. And your argument would be…you can afford the car what’s the big deal about the sub for radio . Oh, and you have to buy a dozen volume knobs a year too because they wear out and you can’t use the radio without them.

    • @PauloG100
      @PauloG100 Год назад

      @@KyleS860 I understand your point and as I said, I dislike this move towards subscriptions too.
      I think you have misrepresented what I said though, I am not saying if you can afford it, then pay the sub, and stop complaining, regardless of the value of the item in question.
      But I am saying that the MLM2 is so good in terms of accuracy that for a very low purchase price you have something that gives performance equal to launch monitors costing 10 or more times more! If I had the connection issues that Joe and others report it would be a different matter, but since the software update I am having zero connection issues.
      This makes the MLM2 a great value option IMO.

    • @KyleS860
      @KyleS860 Год назад +2

      @@PauloG100 sorry, didn’t mean to misrepresent. I’m one of the people with endless issues, so I guess I’m a bit overly sensitive. For me spending 8k on a GC3, with no sub or ball requirements, better software, and fewer issues is a toss up at this point.

    • @JLagGOLF
      @JLagGOLF  Год назад +1

      Hey Paulo so it all depends on how much you use the unit the balls can get chewed up quite quickly if you hit a lot of wedges where better players are going to spend a lot of time. So for me the subscription model unfortunately seems to be the way a lot of companies are going now. I get it from a business point of view.. but I definitely think it's something to highlight for buyers. I think the issue a lot of people have is what are you getting from the subscription.. it's not really value adding to the device if that makes sense. So with the R10 you have the device and then if you want to add the subscription you get home tee hero and the weekly tournaments. So they aren't really restricting anything without the subscription. With the MLM2PRO it's a forced subscription because without it you lose vital data like spin and spin axis. So you're essentially paying to use the device instead of paying for extra value like with the R10. Fingers crossed they can sort out the issues with the device 🤞🤞 it has amazing potential.

      So I was having major issues with connecting my MLM2PRO to my router / modem.. the only way I could get a stable connection was to use my pixel and hotspot. Joe, another great video and completely agree. If Garmin could figure out a way to give side spin data more accurately to solidify shot shape it would also make folks thinking about spending $3000 on other launch monitors think hard. Especially if folks add on the 3rd party putting capability within GS Pro.
    Now I also wanted to share that someone has released an early version open source GS Pro interface for the Rapsodo MLM2 Pro. If it gets refined to the level the Garmin interface is at currently and if Rapsodo fix their connectivity issues and improve the short chipping algorithm, I think Rapsodo MLM will be King by September. If it gets that far, I’d bet putting will be added too. Rapsodo and the community are capable. Some people may remember the R-Motion. Tons of fun for $300. Between that product learning and the Skytrak development relationship I’m betting the MLM2 Pro will mature and be King. I Think it will divert Skytrak and Mevo+ sales too at that point.
    Here’s the link to the GS Pro interface for MLM2 Pro development: github.com/rowengb/GSPro-MLM2PRO-OCR/releases/tag/v0.2.0
