ouch, yeah i would still rather pay way more for Gc3 at this point. been weighing up in home options and still for the money with putting etc gc3 still has to be the way to go surely.

Joe, I have seen where th R50 has a pretty quick sleep mode. It seemed like the disconnects came during longer times when no ball was struck or placed in the hitting area, have you found that to be the case when using it and could that have been the cause of the disconnects

Looks like several of your shots show in to out club path with a closed face to path, but spin axis was positive and producing a fade. Shouldn't this result in a draw? Is the point where it measures F2P happening a little late (after contact) when the club would have closed a bit?

Nice video. Looks like it's going to take Garmin some time to get the R50 working at a level that validates the price. Its nice to have the little extras like built in screen and direct HDMI connection but if it isn't reliable playing proper sim golf then its not going to be very attractive to many people. I am not a RUclipsr so not confident about uploading videos but I'd love for people to see how this optical device I have here in Japan works. It gives access to algorithm adjustment so if you feel the ball is going too far or not far enough according to ball speed and spin you can adjust the setting within the basic software. It also allows you to adjust spin measurement. I have used it with a Mevo+ with RCT balls measuring at the same time and spin numbers, vertical launch, horizontal launch (if both aligned properly), ball speed etc. are virtually identical.This device also has a really cool alignment calibration method that uses a lego frame with white markers for reference points designating where you want it to judge what is straight. That means you don't have to worry about whether the actual unit is positioned perfectly because you just move the lego frame so it's pointing towards your target. It does need markers on the ball but just a couple so I just use a hole punch to make little stickers from extra space on MLM2PRO ball stickers and stick them on a few places on the ball or just use an MLM2PRO RPT ball. TP5x balls also work just fine. It just needs something on the ball it can see moving and paint digital points on it. For me the ability to adjust the algorithm yourself to get ball flight that you want is the biggest sales point. I think they did it so club fitters could smooth over bad shots for lower level golfers when trying to sell clubs.

I couldnt' find the exact penalty but in our GK, any hazard not OB will have red stakes. I figured the stream that runs through the course would be Internal OB. there's not much penalty areas there in general but you found one of them ;)

Well played Joe. I live not so far from St Andrew and links golf would have you knee deep looking for a ball that hits this kind of rough. 'If' you were lucky enough to even find your ball in such rough, you would struggle to hit it a few yards out onto the fairway. So would your recommend this over the GC3? they are roughly in the same price range. But $750 a year to play GSPro is ridiculous. is there a way to compare the accuracy between a GC3 and the Protee CX?

Used this at a simulator and I honestly can’t imagine using it over gspro. Sure it’s cheaper if you have a uneekor launch monitor…but if you have a uneekor launch monitor you just spent thousands on a launch monitor, what’s another couple hundred in better software

Who would upgrade from an R10 to the R50? Not many. This unit was a marketing mishap.

Great video. So they are within ~98% of each other or better with different swing data sets? Wow...enough said honestly...both about the Garmin R50 and the consistency of your swing. Bought it based on a previous video you had. ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! The courses do play like our home courses distance wise. Putting is not a deal breaker for me. I believe Garmin will fix it. I mean...this thing has been out a couple of months at this point. Impressive.

Question Joe about the shot video. Being the camera is at the toe end of the clubs, how well can you see, or even within the data how well you hit centre of the face? Can you tell if hitting toe high, heel low etc.

Another great review Joe. Thank you for your continued in depth effort. I like this format for comparisons. No need to see 40 shots over 40 minutes when 12 minutes gives us what we need to make informed decisions. Especially on range data. Still like to watch shots on the courses which satisfies that. Your reviews really push me to build a Sim with this R50 as I really want ball and club data so I can see in every shot what I am doing right and wrong, but can't spend Foresight/ Trackman dollars. Even this is over $6000 Canadian which really hurts.

Hey Joe, one has to remember the GC3 is quite a bit more expensive, especially when you add the yearly subscriptions, so the $5000 US question is… assuming a low to mid hcp’er was only going to be playing HTH using auto-put until the putting was fixed, would you say the data is accurate enough to be able to play enjoyable golf and still work to improve their game (not sure any unit in this price range would be a lot of help for your game, your metrics are so tight). Maybe the only thing you left out (or I missed) was whether or not you went thru the pains to match the internal environment variables of each unit, The Garmin R50 is quite configurable for elevation, temp, barometric pressure and changing things makes a difference in the golfers results as you are aware. Using GSPro as an equalizer for the calculated data eliminated the need to do that but not sure the typical viewer would make that leap.

Love the videos I just want to let you know I can’t see the excel numbers when watching on my tv because they are too small. Maybe zoom in on a few key numbers?
