Expensive Products Worth The Money | Luxury Brands I Love

- Just because something is expensive does not necessarily mean it's good or worth your hard-earned cash. However, in general, I really think that you do get what you pay for. Some expensive luxury brands are just better. Better quality. Better craftsmanship. More singular and unique. In this video, I'm sharing six expensive products that I think are totally worth the money.

1) Running shoes
2) Dumbbells
No matter what products you buy, you can't hide your physique forever. Stay in shape.
d2touge why do you need expensive dumbells
well stated!
Lee Alex they don’t necessarily have to be expensive but a quality pair of adjustable dumbbells will last you for years and since they’re adjustable you won’t have to buy separate pound increments either
Have I ever seen as less relevant comment? Who has claimed expensive clothes make you look fitter?
Good running shoes. Nordstrom rack is great for discounted asics, Brooks, Saucony and Mizuno. If you must go nike, epic reacts or Pegasus or zoom flys are the only ones worth putting miles in
Watching these videos always feels like some kind of awakening to me - because most people I know would not even spend 300 euros to buy a suit. In Finland where I live, many men just buy the cheapest suit they can find, and even 100 to 200 euros feels expensive for them. They only wear a suit when they absolutely have to, and that is maybe 1-2 times a year, or not even every year . When they talk about wearing a suit, it's like they are talking about some kind of terrible tragedy. That has always been something I can't relate to, and I'm often frustrated with the fact that it's very hard to dress sharp here without grabbing too much attention. In the office where I work, people just wear cheap jeans and hoodies, for example. It's just a part of our culture that you must be humble and unnoticeable, many people still find it strange when men care about their looks. There was recently a survey about the places where men do their shopping in my country - and the result was that the most common place to buy clothes is a hypermarket. Men just grab something cheap to wear, as fast as possible, when shopping their groceries. That's just sad.
Well, you've found your tribe here, Ville. Glad to have you and thank you so much for taking the time to write such a thoughtful comment.
I just had to let it out, now I'll feel a bit lighter for a moment :) Thanks for your content, it is always top quality and I've had so many wonderful ideas from your videos. You really have a remarkable eye for combining colours and building tasteful outfits.
There is a young RUclipsr - username ReportofTheWeek, he does fast food reviews. He ALWAYS wheres a suit -vintage suits that fit really large for him, but he loves the way they look. Very inexpensive ones too. But the reason i bring him up is because he said in a video the reason he always wears a suit is because he like the way he looks, and doesnt care(anymore at least) that he looks out of place. His point from my perspective was to dress in a way that makes you proud of yourself.
VILLIE I wish I lived where you lived in Finland I dont wear super expensive suits cuz I caint afford umm if if I could I'd probley only own one but I buy nice cloths not from super market but hear in usa if working in corporate high end place law firm and such they expect you to have expensive stuff and be dressed up so would be nice if I could wear my nice casual cloths to work
Ville Vester torille.
Love the video. One I would add is “airline travel luggage”. For years I purchased cheap or mid tier carry-on bags and since I fly every 2 weeks for business I’d go through 2-3 suitcases a year. Wheels break, handles stop working, etc. I bought a Rimowa Topas Stealth in carry-on size and it has lasted me 2 years already (knock on wood). Worth every penny
Agree on Rimowa. I have two cases by them--an aluminum Topas and black salsa carry on. I look forward to every new dent!
Rimowa is a good bag. But it would be target for thief and TSA just love to open it up. There are alot of choice in term of carry on.
Just came across your channel and you’ve got me hooked. I watch a lot of different men’s style channels and you definitely stand out.
You are very genuine and it shows. Keep up the great content, I know it won’t take long before your channel blows up!
Many thanks. Appreciate the very kind words and the support!
meanwhile me sitting in a $20 pair of jeans that look good after 6 years XD
Same here
Meh, I'll just keep my Uniqlo selvedge jeans using Kaihara denim, one of the big 3 Japanese denim mills.
Also, who the hell wears through a pair of jeans every year? I still have my American Eagle jeans from 15 year ago that still look decent (aside from the style that's no longer in fashion)
Same. I’m never spending that much on jeans
That's what you think.
Exactly, I have used the same pair of £20 jeans from Next (UK) and they look new... it is more about the product at its price range.
I love having something that no one has YET! Theirs nothing wrong with being unique, and a cut above from having something that no one has YET! This channel is the shit! So happy I found it!
I have a pair of Levi jeans from Target. Cost $30. Had them for 10 years. No holes or wear spots.
Awesome. That's great. My Levi's also have lasted quite a while.
I can wear through my stretchy jeans in 3 months
Also, who tf buys $40 jeans and then replaces them yearly. I don’t know one fucking person
@@Lee-ss5nv Perhaps you should get out more. In Australia, with the arrival of major international clothing shops and greatly reduced cost of every day wear, such as jeans and chinos, I think that a lot of men now replace their jeans within the year.
I travel mostly by public transport and I rarely see anyone wearing jeans that show any signs of wear. Phil.
Swiss army knife, best 70 usd I spent. All the tools are there when you need it, and the quality of the stainless steel is amazing. Has not rusted in 7 years I had it
indeed - have it on me almost every day
Totally agree on MTM suits and Frank Clegg. I don't think people realize that going MTM adds a slight cost but results in a much better fit than off the rack. As for Frank Clegg, I love the quality leather, the fact that it's made in Mass, and that it isn't covered in logos that draw attention to their products (see Louis Vuitton or Coach). As for shoes, I've been extremely happy with Magnanni. Extremely good quality at a reasonable price point for good dress shoes. Good video, Brian!
Many thanks for the comment, Chad. Cheers.
One of my favorite denim brands is Naked and Famous out of Montreal Canada. They buy premium Japanese denim, but sew the jeans in Canada to provide a slightly more affordable Japanese selvedge denim jean at under $200. Also, they have all sorts of crazy denim blends include kevlar, steel, very heavy weights (32oz), as well as interesting collaborations. I think I now own 5 pairs, but I really appreciate each one, and since I work in a more casual environment, I get to wear jeans daily.
I'm subscribing for a number of reasons like the kind of gentleman you are, your honest opinions, graphics of the show, your research on the topic, overall look and feel of your video and of course your logo.
I really enjoed this video and couldn't agree more. You get what you pay for. I have had my Goyard card holder for over a year and it still looks brand new. Also I just ordered my first Frank Clegg item. Thanks for the great content and you have really been killing it lately. Great work!
Thanks, as always, Nathan! What did you happen to order from Frank Clegg? More to come!
He Spoke Style I just ordered a shrunken bison wallet but I’m sure it will be the first of many. Needed something bigger than my card holder. I checked out the Belgian Mr Casual shoes and they look awesome. Can you do a styling video with the pairs you have?
Me with my $10 dollar Chinese slim wallet made from machined aluminum, and black carbon fiber.
Brian, another great video! Looking forward to the next video on your made to measure recommendations! Keep up the good work!
Thanks, Rene! In that department, I think the next video will be giving some honest thoughts on Suitsupply.
Solid recommendations, some I would recommend along the same lines:
1) Pocket knife (ZT, Benchmade, CRK)
2) Lighter (Douglass)
3) Leather Jacket (Schott, Flat Head)
4) Swiss watches (Hamilton, Omega, Rolex etc)
5) A good anti-aliasing filter on your camera ;)
Patek-Philipe &;my favorite Swiss brand Ulysses-Nardin!
Grand Seiko beats all.
I think your jab went mostly under the radar. Very well played.
Never heard of Douglas. I carry a 2 flame Xikar. I will check Douglas out. I am lower tier for watches. Oris, Alpina, Seiko, and Hamilton.
@zhengyongtan6316 overrated
G Eazy is that you?!
Agreed with buy quality and you don't need quantity. Case and point, I started buying years ago small amounts of snap-on tools. Awesome quality, makes you love working on any project with them.
Awesome! Appreciate you chiming in.
Your content is always so informative....thanks for your knowledge!!
Thanks. You're very welcome.
I love my RRL! Got them for $50 on Ebay. Selvedge denim in the $100-200 that I like a lot is Gustin. They use fabrics from all over the world. Great value
I dislike the word ‘luxury’. I prefer quality.
isn't the problem, that quality is hard to get? so quality is luxury and what is sold on a price scale that is luxury by definition going by the average income? I think a major problem of today is, that often even those, who would like to produce solid quality items, have problems to get the material they would need to produce them. and in case, they can get them, they would have to order in higher quantities, to have a fair share in the profits. because, you cannot go too high with the prices anyway - unless you have a unique style and local customers!?
The problem is that those 2 words are NOT always synonyms.
Ooo semantics ~+~**+
Not always luxury is equal to quality for example in some luxury cars and wear.
diego mardiaga i agree. many luxury brands are to expensive but the quality is poor the only things they buy is only the brand name.
In The Netherlands: Suitsupply entry level suit (S110's) = 279€ + Tailor is around 60€. No idea why tailoring is so expensive in America but for my body type this is a much better deal.
Very high quality video btw.
as long as you find a suit (jacket) that fits in the shoulders, the tailoring shouldn't cost that much. arms and trousers length - about 60€. I would say, this is what you would pay in a regular tailor shop in Vienna too. in case there is more to do round the shoulders, the length of the jacket might be a problem etc. then it does make a huge difference. and paying about 100-150,- for that kind of tailoring for a suit on about 250-300,- that usually doesn't look proper too long - esp. when worn regularly. that is just too much money for tailoring . you probably are lucky considering shoulders back and size etc. my partner doesn't wear that often suits, but if he would want to avoid too much tailoring, he would have to buy Italian brands or much better, directly in Italy. his size fits more to Italians. then only minor changes are needed.
PS: As far as I know, in the US it does not only depend on the state and city you live in and what kind of tailors you can find in your surrounding, it also depends on, which one of the existing ones you prefer or dear to go to. there are some districts with either immigrants or US citizens, with migration in their family history, that offer the job to fair prices. but some either don't trust them, because they fear, they would not treat you as a valued customer, as you don't pay that much anyway, or they just feel a barrier to go to them. where I live (Vienna/Austria) some male friends tell me, they love to go to the Turkish tailor shops and even barber shops. they find, they do the job just as well to a much better price. others fear to get standardized service and don't see, that they can explain themselves, the service they came for etc. I think, there are shops with different price ranges everywhere. maybe one still just considers a higher price range as accessible.((Vienna: shorten trousers: 10,- (seen in a tailor shop and also that price seen in a store charged for the same service) 15,- and once I even saw the same service for 30,-. the last tailor did look exclusive I must add))
More variety in body shapes
Suit Supply is based in the Netherlands so that probably helpa
Helps*
A great tailor is worth every penny. Hard to find one esp slim guys but when you do, bond and develop a long term relationship. 10x return
shahtel agreed
10x return for who? Tailor?
@@Roman-vh1rr
On price and quality on the long term.
Thoughts on the brand “Eleventy”? Also 100% agree on Aesop products. I thought $70 on a face serum was expensive but it’s honestly my favorite, the best I’ve had, and honestly lasts a long time.
I love my Levi's Jean's. I own several that are at least 10 years old and it looks sharp. I love how over time its faded evenly. And its comfortable.
JOK Yes. The pair of 511s I wear often in outfit videos are also about 10 years old. Kind of exceptional. I will say that they don’t quite feel the same as a well worn in pair of selvedge though. Thanks for the comment.
You can buy Levi’s 501 selvedge jeans.
You can not go wrong with Levi's but new softer one I feel a little too easy wear out.
Thank you for putting this video together! Frank Clegg is my grail bag!- Cheers!
Brian, Thanks for the update on the Casio watch. I just purchased it through Amazon for a total of $19.61. Didn't really need the watch but was impressed with your commentary and decided why not.
Saphir shoe Polish is fabulous. Seems expensive at first but it lasts forever and the quality is unbeatable.
In terms of MTM/ custom, I've had great luck with Black Lapel (1 dinner suit and 16 suits later) and I just purchased my second Oliver Wicks suit. Black Lapel has been very consistent with its sizing in my experience, and they have a pretty good selection of fabrics and styles. Oliver Wicks has slightly more customization options and some bolder styles, but either is a solid choice.
Your skin does look amazing. I'm definitely going to invest in Aesop products.
During late 2000s, a pair of APC new standard costed me between $125 to $150, from their flagship store in Soho. It was THE BEST selvedge entry jean! Would still wear it today, if I hadn’t gained weight :)
Ercoles Bespoke in Brooklyn is one of the best in my experience for custom suits. Made to measure I believe begins at $1500 and Bespoke at $2500.
You can get a made to measure from nordstrom's for around $1k
In day and age where inexpensive is synonymous with good, you have an uphill battle with most. For those of us who are 'aware', your video is very welcome.
Much appreciated, Paul. Thanks for the comment.
I miss you talking about sunglasses and watches I love this channel .. it talks about what I like and it is the only youtube channel that has subtitles in Spanish greetings from Ecuador
Dressing well is a form of good manners ~ Tom Ford.
I think ppl should complain less abt things they can control, u want to dress better, better watches, better cars? with all do respect Hustle!! Achieve the position or financial freedom u wanted n stop criticizing ppl with good taste or saying luxury goods r waste of money. I went from Gshock to Omega in years n the costs are Blood Sweat n Tears n damn proud of it, still love my Gshock that went through with me during university but I'm going for a rolex next🤜🤛keep grinding people❤
How beautifully you projected your views about each and every product, amazing keep it up. Love from india
Over the years, I have had extremely good quality with Oxxford made to measure, and Brioni made to measure. I own bespoke suits from Saville Row, by Gieves and Hawkes, and Joseph. They are like wearing artwork. While expensive, they are values when one thinks I've owned these suits for over two decades, and they look as good as the day I picked them up in London. That makes them more than competitive with department store ready-to-wear. The right bespoke ends up being an heirloom item.
I always appreciate your videos, they have absolutely saved me now that I wear suits regularly. That being said I have a principle to not buy expensive jeans. I definitely think it defeats the purpose of jeans, but I digress, to each their own.
Just a few from my list: Kent hair brushes, Dr Harris toothbrushes, Floris fragrance, Clarisonic Mia Men Face Brush, most of the Swiss watches, Seiko watches :)
Love it all. There is something very particular about all of your trousers - they have such a clean straight silhouette, but do so without looking dated or at all baggy. Are these trousers custom, and if so, what do you ask for to get that look?
Thanks, John! That's a great video topic. I will add that to the queue. Most of my trousers are custom made. I'll have to get with Cory from MAB to get my exact measurements!
Discovered your videos a few weeks ago and have to say you’re one of the best men’s fashion/lifestyle guys on RUclips! I’m amazed you don’t have more subscribers.
I’m just wondering what you see as good options for MTM suits ~1000? You have some amazing looking suits/evening wear but I’m guessing they were more expensive than that (and some bespoke instead of MTM). Thanks!
Great video, Brian! I really need to check out Aesop.
Thanks, guys! Do it!
I would say two the things mentioned for me are the Boutique Colognes for unique fragrance scent and the Frank Clegg for the custom leather bags. I only discovered Frank Clegg briefcase bags and duffle overnight bags last night watching quite a few your vids and where you left a link in description under to the video to Frank’s website. I was in awe at the leather bags and much outside my considered price range. But I’m willing to save and invest in one of each bag liking the leather grain and craftsmanship. So I’m willing to splurge on a elegant briefcase and travel bag. Cologne aside .
And thank for the book recommendation about how luxury goods book. Will surely be checking that out.
Aesop - Oi, Oi Oi... 🇦🇺I love this brand. Reminded me that I need to visit them again. Agree with the choices too.
Thanks for the tip on Frank Clegg!! (y)
You got it! Thanks so much for the comment.
An interesting insight into lesser known brands. Well done.
I love my Mark Cross, which I believe is the quintessential luxury brand for leather goods. They are expensive, they are worth it. I’ve had my Mark Cross briefcase for over 30 years and it still serve me well.
Please do an updated version of this video. Love to see your takes. Thx
I bought recently some products from the Tom Ford range and although expensive they do the job well, especially the under eye treatment and the skin revitaliser. The belgians are tempting but I’m still thinking if I can pull them off
I found a pair of selvedged denim jeans worth 790Php which is equivalent to about 15$ on sale in Uniqlo. It was the last one there and it fit me perfectly.
Totally agree with the denim theme, I own some well tailored mtm denims (which doesn’t need to be mtm) for 200€ which are fantastic. But I have to say that, hate me or love me for that, I made really good experience with the 50€ Hollister denims. Sure the color isn’t the very same after 2 years. But I wear most of them for over 4 years now and they still look good.
A good pair of English Goodyear welted shoes from Loake , Cheaney or Crocket & Jones. Looked after properly they will last 10+ years.
Plus good Cedar shoe trees.
I wear Loake and Cheaney. Would love C&J, hopefully soon.
The jeans look a great fit i love the way your desk is set up
A few additions from my experience; Alden boots, Clive Christian cologne, Fallkniven knives, Persol sunglasses, Schott leather jackets.
I would be interested in the fashion books and magazines you read; enjoyed this video very much!
A few random expensive products or brands which I think are worth the money: Apple HomePod, Hermès colognes (Equipage, in particular, elicits compliments), JM Weston Demi-chasse shoes, Icebreaker apparel, Brooks sneakers, Quartz Co. down coats, Zelens skincare, Biologique Recherche P50 skin toner, Biologique Recherche shampoos, IC Berlin eyewear, IQ Air room purifier
Joel Thorne Nice list! Thanks for sharing!
I have never tried the P50 - but Biologique Recherche is amazing in my experience.
For tech, good chargers and good quality charging cables are a MUST
I agree to a point about bespoke tailoring ,however as long as you do your research and you can purchase
a good canvased /half canvased suit and have it adjusted by a good tailor and it will
look as good as a bespoke suit on most people .Yes bespoke in general is the best way to go if
you can afford it i myself saved up many years ago and had a suit made by a well known London
tailor and although it is a great suit i can honestly say that my off the peg suit collection
looks and fits just as well but each to his own i guess.Great video as usual cheers.
Appreciate the comment, as always, Adam.
Filson Luggage out of Seattle, solid canvas, leather and brass construction, wears well, and retains resale value.
John Schrader Filson is indeed fantastic. I have a briefcase by them that I love. Have always wanted to get a duffel as well.
Very interesting thanks mate
What makes good facial skincare good? I've tried many of the more expensive products and in the end, can't tell a difference using regular soap like Dove and a grocery store moisturizer such a Nivea. Could you please elaborate or possibly a single video on the subject.
On that note though, I think a proper chelsea or other zip-up boot like the Saint Laurent Wyatts are worth every penny
Small leather goods like an LV wallet as well, custom jewlery from a jewler (not tiffanys)
Cole Bruce I don’t have experience with those Saint Laurent boots so I can’t really comment. They got a lot of hype on Instagram a couple years ago, which kind of turned me off. Do you have a pair? Are they really a very high quality? Curious to know. Agree re small leather good. Goyard and Faure Lepage are fantastic.
@@hespokestyle Yeah for leather goods I have an Epi leather LV cardholder and i smile everytime I pull it out, a nice coach duffle and Boss briefcase and passport holder, all great products. And it;s still snowing here in cnaada so I haven't really taken out the boots, however I got them treated and a thin vibram sole put on underneath to preserve them for years to come. The fit and finish is minimalist and yet so well executed. The smell and quality of the leather is there and the construction is great. What got me was when i unzipped them and slipped my foot in, I'm sure they use supply calf leather - and in a chat with a friend apparently Saint Laurent value for leather and footwear is amongst the top heavy hitters. They very comofrtable to wear as well - just like the SLP 01 Low top sneakers they make. THose are also incredibly made
LV is not worth the money lol.
Its overpriced and overhyped by people with low self esteem
@@raupenimmersatt6906 Depends on what good or clothing item you're talking about. There is value in it
What are your thoughts on Carl Friedrik? I just purchased a Palissy Briefcase , excited to break it in.
That Leica Q next to you is worth every penny 🙌
Sage advice. Just bought a Clegg commuter briefcase; way overdue!
Ludwig Reiter shoes from Vienna are definitely worth their money, I can also recommend Marvis Toothpaste, the Aesop one is not that good, though the mouthwash is absolutely amazing, if you are looking for really good fragrances (mine last about 12 h) consider Penhaligons or Jo Malone
Great video. Viberg and Wesco boots. Gitman Vintage shirts. Equus leather belts.
RL green bottle was the first eau de toilette I got, still love it too.
It's a classic for a reason!
@@hespokestyle So is the Z-14! Try the original YSL Frosted gray bottle, burgundy top, if you can find it.
This is not something you wear, but something that takes the wear and tear off you. And that is a super quality mattress. I would go with either a Saatva Classic or a Brentwood Oceano because I like pillow tops.
love your videos, and I feel like your ideas and suggestion very honest and genuine, I just wanted to know where do suggest getting a suit from and do you happen to live in houston? just to find out if you know and good tailor or so forth. hope to hear from you soon, thank you!
I would add suit supply, Allen Edmonds and Rolex. I have owned several items from each brand for over a decade and still wear them daily
might have to try aesop next when i’m done with my current lineup of khiels.
Definitely recommend it. Khiels is also quite nice.
Been loving Aesop haircare products
For skin, the Kiehls products are great
Very helpful!!
Barbour Jackets/ Taylor of Old Bond Street Shave Soap/ Creed Cologne/ Tom Ford Sunglasses/ Alden Boots/ 1960s Mercedes Benz/ Modal bed linens/...TBC.
Amazing list. Agree on all counts!
I would recommend trying out independent perfumery especially those made in USA. There's a lot of good work coming out and they tend to be more fairly priced and ethical then the 'masstige' options. One house that I have been impressed by is Hans Hendley, which is made in Brooklyn. My favourite from that house is Bourbon. The other one i like is Bruno Fazzolari (based in San Francisco) although he has a bit of a 70s sensibilities which may not suit everyone's taste. D&S Durga is another option too, i think they just opened a boutique in NYC.
Good recs! Thank you for taking the time to leave such a thoughtful comment. Have you tried Le Labo?
He Spoke Style Yes, I’ve tried a few of the popular ones like santal 33 and Noir 29. Too synthetic leaning for my taste and I find it very overpriced now (I think they were cheaper in the past, but could be wrong).
I typically pay $20 - $40 for my jeans, and I have a bunch of them.
I also get my Dockers for less than $25.
They last long enough, and I get to switch up a lot.
I like to keep my money in the bank.
I totally agree with every said here 100%. When my job required me to dress up - i didnt know sh*t about clothes or style really. The first 2 years i wasted a ton of money on dress pants that would get quickly damaged after 3 months of use - dress shoes that would wear down after 4 months - shirts that made me look like a muffin top.
Point being is - save your money for quality stuff. And also research brands and products - sometimes you dont have to break the bank to buy quality stuff. I spent 200$ on 5 dress pants and they have lasted me 2 years now.
Many thanks for the comment and support, Arnold. Great to hear your story as well!
most important is to find a good tailor
Watches. A Swiss made mechanical watch with in-house movement from a brand with heritage is definitely a must-have. You will get what you pay for.
Speaking of Made to Measure, I'm thinking to get two or three of them, choosing among Alton Lane, SuitSupply and Brooks Brother. Which one should I go with?
Aww man, you can’t just have a Nautilus in the still frame and not mention a mechanical Swiss watch.
This!!?
Well that is definitely not worth it!
Grand Seiko > any swiss brand that you can mention 🤷🏻♂️
Mechanical Japanese* watch
@@noobworker knows value
Regarding the suits, every store out there that you can buy suits of the rack, offers free alterations in order to have better fit. Of course a custom made is always better because except the fitting you can find better garments in a better price and of course you don’t pay for the label but just for the garments and the work that the tailor does.
I got so many books on my list to read but Deluxe sounds real interesting.
Suit supply size 38 (Havana) + 50 dollars alterations and Brooks size 40 (Malino) about 80-100 dollars of alterations. I would say that at 5'10'' with an athletic build, I look a lot like a manikin, though. I love both those companies and have OTR suits from them and Pini that I wear often. MTM I use a local shop and here in Seattle, but they also have locations in UT and CA. Beckett and Robb, but for my value, I usually end up close to 2k there.
Hi, your videos are very informative. Have you done a video on formal woolen pants, colours and prints, that can be worn with variety of formal shirts
I think it’s time for this vid to get a refresh!
Great video! :-) I Would really enjoy a video of your Dyptique Candles! :-)
Many thanks!
What size is the Luca Faloni Shirt? it looks really good on you.
It's a small. Thanks!
A Vintage omega dress watch - 800 to 2000 dollars. Usually the sea master or constellation models.
Great option.
Brian- What are your thoughts on the 1953 Gucci horsebit loafers in brown? Are they worth the $700-$800 price point?
I know they get a bad rap because of the banker bros, but I'm considering getting them for 3 reasons:
1) Love the look, and the brown loafers are incredibly versatile
2) I tried them on, and they are insanely comfortable
3) They are now a part of history (since they're inducted in the MET's permanent collection)
Would love your thoughts!
Selvedge denim can be found for $25 (A&F and sister brands have this sale available pretty often). It's pretty hard to find it there, but pretty easy to find it under $100 (unbranded brand selvedge raws are available 24/7). Of course, more expensive denim can be a lot better than that.
The only "reasonably priced" selvedge I've had any experience with is from J.Crew. It was, I'd say, okay, but no better than okay. Certainly not the level of an A.P.C or RRL, which I'm more familiar with.
Question: How was your Luxury jeans after wash and dry? I like my jeans to retain its crisp twill weave. It tends to become brushed(?) or lost its signature white streaks once washed.
I replaced it with the same jeans but this time I never wash it (may sound gross but it apparently not necessary to wash jeans unless it has a tough stain)
Does the luxury price point able to retain its crisp fabric as if it wasnt washed?
great video! I agree with almost all of the products you mentioned. however, I wouldn't spend the money on cologne since that's not a long lasting product. they would probably last longer than the cheaper colognes but it would never last 3 times longer. For example, the Tom Ford perfumes are very strong and they last long but for the same price you could buy 3 bottles of YSL 'Eau de Parfum' and for the same amount of money invested you have 3x more perfume and it will most likely last as long as the TF perfumes. if you really care about good quality perfumes, go for the oil-based perfumes. they last extremely long on your skin and you only need to apply a small amount every time.
Interesting. Really appreciate you chiming in.
If possible can you do a video on how to properly store ones wardrobe items? For example what to fold vs hang. The best type of hangers to use depending on the garment. As I'm buying more high end items I want to insure I'm giving them the best care in order to prolong the life of the item. Thank you!
Good suggestion! Thanks for that!
You fold the everyday cloth and hang the one you don't wear very often.
Have you tried malin + goetz products? I’ve been using them since last year but I have not used any Aesop products. Wonder how they compare
I have occasionally encountered them in hotels and found them to be quite nice. Don't have enough experience with them to do a proper comparison.
The RRL selvedge jeans is an amazon link to a camera!
Whoops! Updated. Thanks for that.
question: if you say, have one shoulder lower, or one shoulder bigger than the other -- would the custom suit reflect that? would the shoulder on the smaller side be "built up" so that both shoulders are equal size, or would the tailor basically follow the contours of your body, and your suit would be lopsided, or non-symmetrical, but "fit?" Thanks. Good channel.
In order to truly correct something like that, you'll need to be doing bespoke or at least a really, really good custom program.
Having done both sides of every point, let me offer an alternative view.
Uniqlo has selvedge stretch denim that goes for 50-70/pair. If you're going to be okay with 1 colorway of APCs, then the analog would be 1 color of other denim. The uniqlos last 1.5 years for me easily.
Custom fragrances - plenty of less popular department store brands exist but I can agree w just buying one expensive one. It's just hard to calibrate your taste when you're new.
Custom suit - I own a tailored full canvassed suit. I rarely wear it, and canvas' primary attribute is that it looks good even after tons of wears. Fused suits are fine if you wear your suit 5-10 times a year. Your Fused suit will easily last 30-40 wears and good deals on Fused suits = $160 at Macy's or less when on sale. Spend the extra on tailoring.
Leather goods - buy good stuff on sale, but owning 3 similar bags of extremely high quality can get boring. Sometimes lower end stuff is easier to swallow when you wanna get rid of it and replace for a new style.
Skincare - aesop is awesome but a lot of Skincare simply comes down to essentials like good diet w omega 3, vitamin e and consistent use of sunscreen. Aesop is a luxury purchase and the real benefit with their products is a great aesthetic look on your bathroom shelf and a nice smell.
Shoes... Depends on your work. Get some Goodyear welt stuff for leather shoes you actually wear often. Avoid corrected grain leather. That's all there is to it.
You are a smart man, what's the point of having these high quality items when you barely use them.
Practicality is the key
any stretch denim isn't good
Maxx's World define “good”. You may lack the authenticity of real fades with stretch denim but you can buy stretch in just about any distressed pattern, and solids. You can also try way more fits (super skinny w 5 inch ankle openings is doable) without sacrificing comfort. I used to like selvedge raw but I think most of my friends and I have largely moved on. Comfort is just something not worth sacrificing for 2 years of denim wear.
I love my Mont Blanc Backpack and Santoni or Berluti Shoes. Also Zegna or Giorgio Armani Shirts
One of my favorite channels
This is the second of your videos that I’ve watched. It’s far easier to get quality when you set an extremely high budget. And as I’d noticed from another commenter, the word luxury (vs quality) seems to be the greater focus here. Pretentiousness is not my aim
Mine neither.
So I went to a place for made to measure suit. Have never had one made for me. Bu the outcome has not been what I wanted, pant seat too large and jacket vents too flailing. So it back for adjustment the second time but I’m not feeling confident it will be great. Not yet paid for in advance. So how many adjustments indicate poor original construction? Maybe I should have gone with online Oliver Wicks or similar organization. Any thoughts?
