I don't know why but this song illustrated how different and opposite in walk talk look and dress and heard this song playing when taking sacrament as everyone else has. I don't know why I tried to go to a Latter day Saints service because I don't fit the part.
This whole album is fantastic! I still own it. I'm 67yrs old. My kids grew up hearing it. Remember Tobacco Road? Talkin bout road, road, road! Oh yeah!
Eric Burden, had one of the GREATEST voices ever in the history of rock on roll. Saw him in person around 1974 I think. In Jacksonville Florida. Will never forget what a magnificent voice Burden had.The music that came out of the 50s and 60s was just incredible.
I will always remember when VH1 Classic became a thing, and my dad was watching, and this song came on. He hollered for me and I fell in love with it. By the end, I was singing along with him in our living room! My dad is so awesome! I remember War doing a little concert at a Kansas City Royals game, my dad took me and my brother. This song started and we lost our minds!
I think your dad must have been the best! My dad loved watching documentarys he would call for me 2 come & make me sit just saying actual footage actual footage pointing at it. Its real life look its actual footage.
The first (and only) time I tripped on LSD-25 in 1970 was to this song (LP version) played non stop for over for 15 hours straight with a New York girl I had just met. A very interesting time in my life :)
Yes - the production is astounding. Hearing this on the radio and never knowing for YEARS who it was until RUclips - (I had guessed it was Van Morrison - which was a good guess - but of course didn’t help me find it - ) hearing it on a car radio I never NOTICED the overdubs of the woman speaking Spanish. This is brilliant and obviously intended for hearing while open-top driving through south LA. - beats out even the great “low rider” on that count.
This song stirred my imagination, because the first time I heard it was in Summer of 1975, while getting ready to go to work. High noon, with a few wispy clouds in the Texas sky the only thing missing was the field of grass, and various women all about. Eric Burdon, dropped out of WAR in 1971 after a bout of exhaustion from touring. WAR moved on, Burdon became a solo artist and the rest is history.
This song " spill thr Wine came out in May 1970. And i was 9 yrs. Old And the following Month in June Our family moved from Baltimore , Maryland to Miami Beach. florida. And it stands out because on the drive down to Fla. It was on the radio all the time.& me & my older brother who was 11 yrs old. Loved it as did my mother who was really cool. Those were some great days & the music was the best.
I remember playing this song for my Dad on the radio way back in the 60's and he just laughed!I had no idea it was the same guy who sang House of the rising Sun!
I realize as we get older, our memory gets a little foggy and that was really a long time ago but FYI, "Spill the Wine" wasn't released until 1970. Hope that bit of information makes you feel just a little younger. lol BTW, The Animals recorded "House of the Rising Sun" in 1964... Long long time ago...
Funky Funky One! Love War and especially this tune! Saw them open for Grand Funk several years ago. Wore knee length black leather flat heeled boots and danced~stomped for the whole show, feet hurt so bad the next day, ooof what a great party!! 🎶💃👌
I miss the family I had while I was growing up. now that i'm of the age to want to learn and understand their wisdom, they're all gone or have distanced themselves. this song evokes such a strong feeling of a golden age that i just barely missed.
It’s 2024. The election is nigh. I was born 1985. The world has changed. Everyone is angry. I’m driving down the street after a long day of work listening to WNRN (Lynchburg). This song plays. I am invested and happy. My horrible day made better from a song that was here before me. Power of music
My bad,I commented on Bloodstone😂 Anyways I had the privilege of living next to a couple of War members in Venice California and would sit in on their practice session's,this being one of my favorites, those were the BEST years to be a teen, the world was diffrent(way better)in those days and anybody that was around in those days will agree👍👊
I remember cruising in my 99 mercury cougar V6 back roads and this happened to tunw in a sunset omw to the crib. Good cigar. Warm weather. Beautiful sunset. Only in my 20s
I always thought it said… Feel the Wine, take that girl. Not once in the whole song did I ever hear the word “pearl”… It was always GIRL. I won’t tell you how old I was before I figured this out. 😂

That's a really high bar.

Wasnt it 60s?
@@bobbiewallace4008just barely 70s. Recorded January 2nd-4th of 1970. So definitely with 60s instruments.
Long list of good music to finalize that list.
When I first heard this, I imagined the singer to be a smooth black guy, I never thought the singer would have been a scruffy geordie!
Maybe bc you were too young to know Eric from the Animals?
Interesting.
He sounds super white to me haha
"This really blew my mind" !
@larrybackstrom5795, this bad a** song STILL blows my mind in 2024!😎🥁😎🎸🎷🎹🎺
Listening to it for the first time in my life today❤😂
This just a once in a lifetime occurrence,,this MASTERPIECE by War,with Eric Burden

I love Eric with War. The flute player is the best. Reminds me of Ian Anderson
Damn! War's laying down groove, we just don't get any more, and Eric, WOW..... that VOICE is stunning!

Never knew this was War as the backing band until very recently. Now I know why my ears always loved this song!
Ron Burgundy jammed with everyone back in the 70’s. It was a glorious time!
😂
I'm 67 and still loving this one...nothing these days comes close.
I'm 33 and was fortunate enough to grow up with parents who listened to this era's music instead of the 90's pop that was ubiquitous in my youth.
Coming up on 64, man, my brother ❤
