Had a little pfluger president 25 on my main setup for upwards of two years now without any servicing, and the only problem I'm having is the bail arm is loose for flipping it so many times. 100% recommend it to anyone. i put the larger models on my striped bass and carp rods and they work perfect for those larger fish, super smooth drag is great for those 30 pound carp
Hey! I just bought a 5’6 pflueger president 25 combo, and I feel like I’m not getting the distance on casts that I should. What kind of line do you use on yours? Right now I’m running 15 # braid to floro leader, and I’m throwing 1/16th jig maybe 20ft? Thanks!
i just bought another so i wanted to look at a review. I just wanted to say too the first real i ever bought was a pfleuger president when i was in the 3rd grade, im 22 now and i don’t think ive ever cleaned it and it still throws damn near like new. I definitely haven’t banged it up but it’s been with me every legit every outing since i got it and still hasn’t failed me. only reason i got a new one is because i wanted to run 2 poles so ofc i wasn’t gonna change it up with the excellence i’ve experienced
Can you switch it from left hand to right? I ordered online from bass pro and it wouldn’t let me choose left or right it just said left/right on description. I got the 3000
Great review of the Pflueger President :-) I have been using the President since 2009, when they had the wooden handle grips :-) I have purchased the newer versions around 2015 when I moved to Caldwell, ID, from Arizona. I won a SWIF Species Fishing Tournament back then, using the President, where were supposed to catch a different species of fish, each month, without duplicating any species. So we had to know: when, where and how to catch 12 different species of fish throughout the year. It was a fun tournament! Moving from AZ, I learned to catch fish I was not used to catching, like sturgeon, steelhead, and yellow perch, which we did not have in AZ. The President reels that I used, handled them all. Especially the older models. My new models that I bought in 2015, were not as good as far as quality and endurance. I think Pflueger started having them manufactured in China around that time which explained the decrease in performance. They are still good reels, but I have started using Okuma reels, especially the Helios SX models. I was chosen to be a representative of Hobie Fishing Kayaks, while in Idaho and I was on the Hobie National Fishing Team until I moved to California in 2017. Those were good times! Being in California now, there is great salt and fresh water fisheries all around! I am trying to fish them all! I love Lake Almanor and Collins for trout. Almanor has probably the best smallmouth fishing in California! I'll be living, working and fishing the Eastern Sierra lakes soon (April thru October) so I am getting ready for that :-) Keep up with your great videos!!!
My dad bought me one when I was probably 8, I grew up on the river and no joke I fished 250+ days out of a year for multiple years with just my Pfluger president. It still works today but I retired it for sentimental reasons. I will say my new ones are not nearly as tough as my old one. I'm lucky to get 2 years out of them where the other lasted 8 years and probably 10,000hrs of reeling. I've never bought another spinning reel and don't plan on it, I seen a new generation is out now and I'll get one soon. But so far the bass pro reviews (only 5 of them currently) don't look hopeful. Nothing is made like it used to be unfortunately.
I’m In Washington where everything is expensive af and it’s still 50-60$. I’m going to pick one up today along with a sst rod. 100-120$ for my first decent set up
I used to use Pfluegers for years. I switched to Shimano's and daiwa. think the daiwa revoros or even the sienna are better now. The sienna is a 30$ reel and honestly they fish amazing for a budget reel. And they come from a 500 size to a 4000
The Siena? The $30 Shimano? No way is that reel better than the President. It has a hard plastic handle nob, 3BB, flimsy bail wire and the fit and finish isn’t great. I have both the Sienna and Fx ($20) and they are the same reel except the Siena has one more BB. Hell, that’s how all Shimanos reels are until you get to the $120 price range. They are all the same with little upgrades (if that’s what you can call them). The Fx, Siena, Naxeve, Sedona and Nusci are all the same reel but but with different handle nobs and BB Count. Not worth it. The FX has 2BB, no paint, Sienna is 3BB and is painted, the Naxeve is the exact same reel as the Siena but blue but it’s $20 more lol. The Sedona has 5BB and rubber handle and Nusci is the same reel as the Sedona but higher BB count. All the reels have thin horrible bail wires that bend so easily. I am not a fan of Shimano. I do like Diawa though. Revos is a solid reel for $50.
@TIGHTT88 I'm not saying that the sienna is way better than the Pflueger president. The president just seems to be a little outdated in IMO. I like all the Daiwa reels I think the sub 100$ reels Daiwa has the upper hand on most of the market. I do like Shimano reels but the ones I usually fish are the Shimano stradic, twin power, and vanquish. The sienna is a good reel for 30$ yes the bail is a little flimsy I've owned several Pfluegers the president the XT 2 of the limited edition presidents. I can't say they are that much better for the price If I was going to buy a sub-100 reel I think the Daiwa exceler would be the reel I'm not a fan of anything above the sienna because honestly sienna until you get to the ultergra..
@@Kado244 if I am going to do bass fishing sub 100 reel I would buy is the Quantum energy. Blows all these reels out of the water. Sub $60 reels I have to give it to the Ozark Trail OTX. It’s only $34 and is as good if not better than anything else at &60.
down here in ga. over 10 years ago my brother and i bought a flueger president reels brand new paid 80 dollars apiece for them i now know that was exorbitantly high but thats just georgia for you everything is over priced note i should mention that i still have my president and it still works great on my 7 dollar bass pro shops medium action rod and have caught a few dozen 5+ lb. catfish on it as well as two 6 lb bass and dozens more smaller bass it still works well also my brother doesnt have his flueger anymore he doesnt fish anymore either

You can find the Nasci, Sedona and Revros around the same price as the President if you shop around. I know on paper the President is a much better Reel but would you recommend it over the Shimano or the Daiwa.? Thank you for the reviews my friend.
I personally like the feel of the Diawa and Shimano reels more, but it’s all a matter of preference. The nice thing is that most tackle shops carry all 3, so I’d swing in and feel all of them to see what fits your fishing the most. Cant go wrong with any of them though!
@@humbugvideos thank you for the reply back. I bought a Shimano SLX Baitcasting Reel last year secondhand and it was my first Shimano Reel and holy crap is that a smooth Reel.
They are about $50 for the older new models. You can find a Diawa Regal for about the same. I never have bought the President because there's other reels out there with much higher drag , more bearings and higher gear ratio if you want it. I just can't pull the trigger and buy it. Especially ever since a Plufger Trion cost me a nice trout. I don't care if was a 500 and a cheaper model. I've never had any reel just lock up and it will not happen with a Plufger again. I fought that fish long and hard eventually it spit the spinner out. Some people swear by them though.

The line capacity you referenced must have been the braid capacity. The 40 only holds about half that amount of mono just so listeners are aware.

I agree, I would prefer the Regal too. Both are still excellent options in my opinion though. Thanks for the insight!
There is a big difference. This isn't a current reel, and there isn't currently a anti reverse switch.

14 lbs drag ? Where does that come from ?
I'm still using my Shakespeare medalist reels from 20 years ago still going strong Shakespeare used to have the president reel years ago.
Pflueger is Shakespeare same company They were purchased in the '60s
they were purchased by purefishing in 2019
