My all around setups are a 1980 Mitchell 300A on a 6' medium bass pro carbon rod. Spooled with 12 lb mono. The other is a Daiwa BG 4000 on a 6' 6" ugly stick. With 20 lb braid. I can easily catch anything I fish for with either. Cheers

Midwest US, we target Bass (Smallies and Largemouth), Catfish, Carp and occasionally panfish. All we need are the 5’ - 6’ Ugly Stik combos, 8lb mono and either the combo reel or a replacement Trion, Ozark Trail, or Sienna, 1000-2000. Use the combo reel til it wears out (5yrs) then replace… Real anglers don’t need anything fancy.

Would you use an ultra light or a light pole for this?

So I check that shimano Sedona and there is many options on the for example 500, C2000s ,4000 what is the difference in those? I am looking for exactly what your talking about, a good all around rod and reel(mainly for under 10 pound catfish and the occasional 15-20

Great info! I just purchased an Okuma CE-S-962MLb rod for salmon fishing this year in Michigan. I was testing it out yesterday since I’ve never had such a long rod. And I was telling my nephew about the sensitivity of this rod and said that if a fish’s lips even graze the bait I would know it so I was cracking up at your analogy of a fish “breathing” on the setup in your video would be detected lol. Personally, I like the Daiwa Tatula SV 100. I used the Curado dc and I found it heavy for me. I love how smooth Shimano is but it’s the magnetic breaks on the Daiwa that I love. Great distance and every cast is the same. Little or no variation.

On the original style Ugly Stick I put a 50 series spinning reel with 20Lb mono on a 5' Ultra Light rod and was catching big 'ol carp on them. It's like a 10-20 minute fight!

I like that, a jack of all trades and a master of none.

I have the pflueger trion reel. Very solid for $40. More solid than the average Shimano and daiwa reel. I seriously think that pflueger and abu Garcia reels are severely underrated.

I have fish with a pen fears. They are the smoothest real I have ever fished with. I use mine for salt water.

So a couple ultra lite set ups. A few medium rods. A catfish set up. A few surf rods. some carp rods. And a few combos you dont use much but hang on to and collect dust. Got it.

Good information. I use plastics, lures, etc almost exclusively; gotta say up until now I was not aware of the unscented restriction for select fisheries.

Good morning, I was watching this newest video that you had just posted in regards to Idaho's laws towards baits. Is it me or does it seem that they are making it harder for anglers to catch fish with these restrictions on what types of baits that are now no longer legal to use ?? What is the reasoning for this rule ?? Just curious of their final ruling on this topic. Your thoughts on this.

The extra graphite also makes the rod a lot lighter. I mean, both are *excessively* heavy compared to a good quality rod, even the bottom of the line $100 Fenwick Eagle which is well balanced and feels like a feather compared to either of these, but in direct comparison, the 6'6" M Elite is way lighter than the same 6'6" M GX2.

Have you tried any of G. Loomis's trout rods? I have the TSR 791 paired with a Shimano Sustain 1000 and its amazing. the TSR rods are no longer made but I hear the GCX Lite models that replaced them are excellent as well.
