Hiya to you all, Chet, you need to buy a battery load tester. Using a voltmeter and knowing it has 12.7v is fine as far as it goes. but that isn't very far. If you use a tester it puts a resistive load on the battery and the gauge is calibrated to let you know the state of the charge, not just the size. So it finds dead batteries, and not just uncharged ones. Stay safe, Steve...
You know I learned one thing of watching your shows for the past couple years the greatest success that you guys have are what great mechanics you are and maintain your machines if you had to have somebody else fix it your profit margins would be greatly reduced good shows great luck for the next year and thank you for being a great American Farmer
*"The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago and the next best time is now"* I consider this to be best motivational quote I've heard in a very long time. But motivational quotes are useless if you don't practice what you preach*
Why is it your grandfather always gets mad at when you pull something out that's frozen to the ground there's going to be mud you know when it rains you got mud if he doesn't want mud all over everywhere then concrete at all or put black top in there and then what's it going to do b**** about it all the mud on the road or on the concrete you know you're a farmers you farm for a living you're going to get mud somewhere also when he drives around he doesn't make a mess that's all common sense thank you for your video
Hey Dougo I feel your pain on the readers. I've never been able to wear bifocals and the last prescription progressives I bough weren't aligned right. I found some really nice multifocus readers online that have worked for me for years. Mig welding before I found these things was almost impossible. I'll message you a link on your Facebook page.
Have you considered getting a 3 phase generator, usually you can get one from a equipment rental company of of there used fleet. That way you can power the leg on off season. Plus you have backup for power outages.
Hey Larson Farms 🚜, why not utilize VFD's for your electric motor controls. You can program how fast or slow you want your motors to accelerate or decelerate. This eliminates that big rush of voltage that you get with motor starters
do you have a gauge in the dash also for the air pressures or is it just on your phone we use a duel pressure gauge tractor and trailer in the dash it's nice but it would be nice to have it on your phone so if your in the bin sweeping you don't have to get and check the gauge

Great video Chet Dougo Eric Broodie great explanations Eric on the scale loved it back in the track mud fire hose Chet and Broodie never miss a video and can't wait for next one thank you for sharing and your time was awesome 👌
Actually, that fuel tank would be not that difficult to repair. Simple torch out a rectangular section from the inside edge of those V shaped supports end to end then weld in new steel. Flat is fine. Curved isn't critical but you could pick up the steel pre Curved. I used to weld for a company that occasionally did them before I went off to Coast Guard boot camp.
I was thinking the same, but flip it over, the top side probably still original thickness so it would be fine on the bottom, then do the repairs, easy to work on.
Hey Chet, I have a 2017 Honda Pioneer 1000/5 pretty much like yours. I believe there is a space for second battery under the hood for an auxiliary battery that you can put the radio on. This may help in keeping juice for starting power, also wire Midland to switch. A note, I have 5k on my Honda and it has been faultless, gets pretty consistent 18 mpg. Cannot say the same for other brands I have owned. Toby is priceless, take of that little one. Love your posts, and crew. Keep it up!
@@richardlug6139 just bought 2 2k gal with pumps for 3200 a piece pumps alone where 1400 a piece so yeah I have. 500 gal tanks are only 700 bucks and we live less than a 100 miles from them so yeah I think I know the market
You mention demand charges on your 3 phase power system. Do you get demand charges all the hours of the day, or just certain hours on weekdays? Let's say the demand charges apply between noon and 5 pm, then use the peak power before noon. Or if no demand charges on the weekend, wait when it is practical. However if the grain places in town are closed on weekends, then that will not work so well. If you have demand charges all of the time, then maybe a battery storage system could help to reduce the demand charge, so you would charge the system at night, or when the lowest cost per KW is, then discharge while you are running that large three phase motor.
To bad you guys can't run a A/C Drive may lower your demand load..may want to check into it Those drives are variable speed..Drive Tech here A/C and D/C drives
Chet your camera work today was horrible it looked as if you were in an earth quake all day, got me kinda sick on my stomach, when you stopped walking it was OK I've seen you do better but when you were walking it looked as if a penguin was holding the camera, what gives? your video's were always at a high standard, or maybe it was just me, just letting you know what I observed, still enjoyed it though...
Words of advice, do not buy gas in bulk for the pontoon, sleds, pwc, ect. With working in the marine and powersports industry we see nothing but issues with farmers running bulk fuel in their machines. Gas has a 30 day shelf life from the day its made. By the time the gas station sees it. It's starting to break down. We don't notice it in our vehicles because they are less fussy. Just trying to help.
The Crew at Larson Farms a question? How come all you guys in America use English words either in use or say them differently? I can give you examples if you wish.
Would it be cheaper to buy a 3 phase 300 kW generator an old or bankrupt company construction type to run that instead in the UK you can pick one for 5k about 8k in US just a thought cheers keep on keep on :)
Oh and dougo I feel ya on the bifocals I just got mine and that’s truly a new kind of hatred right there and trying to read a computer screen it’s either lean back or up and forward then transitioning to the keyboard and if you have to type from a paper omg just please shoot me now just shoot me now. A friend suggested trifocals and I threatened to insert my foot in a place he would not be please for it to go. Lmao. Glasses / getting older sucks enjoy your younger days fellers time is not your friend it will turn on you someday.
People always talk about ( getting old and over the hill) nobody ever talks about how steep and slick that other side of the hill is. You guys keep putting out great videos I love watching them
It sounds like you guys need a "Good" Jump Box instead of all of those jumper cables! My Jump Box starts the diesels in my boat no problem...Just a idea guys !
Chet, your battery issues should be a wakeup call to the younger generation, batteries are temporary they have to be conserved used sparingly not the answer to the future be any means!
Those big 4d and 8d batteries if you take knows off and look at the cells if any are ever low you can add a battery acid pack to them instead of buying new batteries. Would save thousands over the years with all the equipment you all have to maintain
Depending on how fast they can load and if they leave the brakes off off the truck when loading the front hopper and trailer brakes off on the back the air tanks should have enough air. It's never been a problem for me and I can load in 7 minutes out of our side draw and about the same out of our overhead. Truck Guage will read about 53lbs trailer 65lbs and I'm always between 80 and 81000. I'll pull ahead to the back hopper at 50lbs on the truck Guage
If the elevator is like where my brother hauls to, they use separate scales for loaded trucks vs, unloaded, so if one of them gets off calibration, you don't get the 'off calibration error' cancelled out from the two weighings. Having two scales speeds up the throughput during peak harvest or hauling days.
Hey Chet, instead of wiring the Midland to keyed power, run it to a switch in the dash, but one that has a bright LED light on it, that way you still have the option of having the radio on when you're out in the field and not having to leave the ignition on, but you'll also have the reminder to turn the radio off when you're done for the day. Just gives you a little more flexibility.
Love the videos! Gotta be careful when you keep jumping those batteries without load testing them. The alternator is meant to keep the battery charged under normal load, not to be a “battery charger”. You will end up with your alternator taking a dump if you keep running with bad batteries. Especially on that Pete. Been there, done that! Keep up the great work!
