Day 52 of rejecting the idea, because it’s annoying hearing mic’d up production teams sound like they’re being paid to laugh at everyone’s jokes - leave that to the Americans
Good to see prof. Richard Murphy doing the media rounds again, I'm sure last time I looked at his blog his was being sued for something! Top analysis by him either way tbf!
Ghost hallucinations can be caused by chemicals released by rotting timber in the building, especially during wetter weather periods. Check for water leaks from water pipes, overflowing gutters, roof damage etc, or signs of previous damage that hasn't been properly treated
I commented on the video with the interview but I’ll say it here, too: it was _great_ that you interviewed Richard J Murphy. He’s one of the few economists that has the right take on the economy _and_ is a very clear communicator. Have him on again! _Adding:_ Richard J Murphy is a _lot_ clearer in his latest video (made after the interview with Ava) “Six ways to fill Labour’s fiscal ‘black hole’” about the nature of the £22 billion “black hole” and what the Government can do about it. Well worth watching!
Just once in my lifetime I'd like to see a government appoint qualified people to roles in government... An 'economist' to be 'Chancellors of the Exchequer', A 'medical practitioner' to to be the 'Health secretary', A 'teacher' to be 'Secretary of State for Education!' Every UK government claims we need to run public services like businesses... Yet, Name a single 'Successful' business that hires their friends above qualified staff!
@@enemywithin1295 You do realise that a mainstream economics education is an entirely fictional view of how it all works- basically an origin myth to pass on to the muppets to shut them up?
@@enemywithin1295 yes, it's important to point out that qualifications don't actually make you a good choice. For example by the above definition Harold shipman would have been a great choice for Health secretary. That said he'd probably have been a better choice than Wes Streeting.

My niece feels unusually apathetic in a way I never did about her school because it’s falling apart. The teachers don’t care anymore and that seeps into the children too.
I am not convinced on the paranormal but I don't absolutely rule it out. My dad's first anniversary is tomorrow and over the past couple of months our kettle has been randomly turning itself on which my niece says is him !!
Most people wouldn't even know what CGT is. It was already cut by 6k/50% under the last govt and nobody seemed to complain then (although I'm sure some did). It's a bit radical but clearly they are happy to p*ss some people off now in the hope it pays off later.
He got a number wrong! Hence everything he said is wrong!! Or maybe it all still applies. Hell, raise the allowance up a bit while equalising capital gains taxes with taxes on working.
No, I believe he means that if you equalised income tax and CGT then you'd have the personal allowance.... not to sound like an uber fan, but he's def not out of touch.
I think I know at least some of the answer to the question of what Labour were doing in 14 years of opposition, or in preparation for Government. The issue is, they depend, at least partially, on civil servants for the information they receive about the current issues, priorities, risks in each sector they will govern. And the Civil Service has become bogged down in that same economic orthodoxy that their government now is, so it will almost never present as a solution "Well, the easiest way to fix this is to repair these buildings/improve childcare/improve social care etc" because they already know that the answer will be "No money." I hate to say it but Dominic Cummings got one thing right. The civil service needs people willing to speak truth to power, to challenge the way things are done, and to dare to do things differently. Otherwise we will struggle to get out of the pit we're in because there'll be no one around the politicians to tell them they're framing the question wrong.
CGT allowance has been cut over the past few tax years and is now £3,000. I agree it is the wealthy that pay the most but more people who haven’t planned properly will end up paying CGT.
Is the plan to put all schools into academy trusts then bankrupt the trusts so that the schools can be taken back into local authority administration without paying the ppi debt?
Talulah / Morticia - awful. Both my grannie’s names are Mavis and Doris I feel that is an unbeatable duo of dated names… Ava Santina tho *chefskiss* - Olie looks like he needs a beret and some garlic. Eds’ tache is wobbling too many legs for my liking 👨
The professor is clearly intelligent and well read. I would like to say that even if the Labour government is 20% better than the Tory one then at least we're heading in the correct direction. I personally believe that Labour will have a positive parliament, but we're only weeks in currently so let's give them a chance...
The real problem is that politicians need to admit. If you want European (German, Dutch, French, etc) levels of public spending. You need European levels of tax on Average earners. Taxing the wealthy has its limits due to the mobility of wealth. Spain introduced a wealth tax that raises about €600 million. In government budget terms not particularly significant. So we need to raise taxes on things like introducing National Insurance on private/occupational pensions, and raising the basic rate of income tax.
European levels of spending depend on the country. Also what means the mobility of wealth? Are they taking their 20 houses with them? The dividends? Inheritance?
W-w-why won’t starmer just promise things he can’t afford and act like nothing is wrong. Why is he so dishonest that he is truthful with the nation and adjusts his plans based on the facts
Because we can afford things, we are an incredibly wealth country. The problem is to much of it is in too few hands. If labour are going to continue the austerity project of the last 14 year they will be gone at the next general election.
this is so much rubbish, the OBR did not know there was this size deficit, they have said so themselves, to the point they are revisitign their earlier report....so stop the lies.

So glad for eds transphobia to be highlighted. He once shouted slurs at me in public, Called me handsome and laughed

Oli really going on the BBC dressed like he just escaped from the state penitentiary.

Oli was being cheap. A new government after 14 years and bleating that nothing has changed yet.
So we’re all just supposed to ignore what the new government is saying they’re doing? Why do they say it then?
