With Gumtree it's mainly pick up or drop off isn't it? I think with Vinted it's grown at an incredible fast pace and I've noticed recently Ebay announced "no selling fees" now so makes me think they were worried more and more people now use Vinted.
This anti-Vinted docu, at exactly the same time eBay first drops all fees to sell clothes, and then drops all fees generally, in an aggressive move to shut down Vinted, their main business rival. Coincidence...? Threats of violence are a matter for the police, not for an online selling site. Will there now be a similar anti-eBay docu, where there are pretty much all the same problems? I very much doubt it.

Could Vinted not use a code for each specific item and each specific seller. The seller could take the item to a Vinted supported shop who would print a label with the buyer’s address. That way the seller would not see the buyer’s address. Similarly could the payment not be done on an app which linked the payment to the seller’s code without displaying any of their personal info to the buyer?
7:20 they are not the biggest 2nd hand marketplace, nowhere near it. They've been operating since 2008. 2023 was the first year they made profit. And their revenue was estimated to be about £500m. (596m euro, because they are Lithuanian) Leagues behind eBay
This isn’t unique, had it on facebook marketplace, ebay, as a buyer, and as a seller. Fortunately I’m careful about handing out details and fortunately haven’t found my self feeling like I was in genuine danger… …But have had death threats against me and my family from someone who had my address, for simply asking if the parcel had been shipped yet because it was supposed to have already arrived… Maybe people act that way in person too, but they are way over-represented online.
Anyone else been shopping at charity shops all their adult lives and this online clothes marketplace trend has completely passed them by? My cat put some holes in my Ralph Lauren t-shirt a few weeks ago, but give it only cost me about £5, the subsequent bad mood did not last very long 😂
As I understand charity shops are struggling under the immense amount of cheap/crap quality shein-esque fast fashion rags that dont last long, so charity shops are struggling to process them all, so usually end up having to put them in the trash anyway sadly 😒
We had gumtree love, 2nd hand isnt a young person thing.. People been doing it forever, i really hate it how naive people think it didnt happen until they started doing it
I don't think anyone claimed that vinted or young people invented second hand selling. If you're getting so bothered by this might I suggest you step away from the internet for a while to get some perspective.
Investigate to why Vinted are not paying or delaying payouts for Pro users. Once your balance is frozen you will be asked to complete an ID verifacation they reject every document that you send in this continues for days
One thing that annoys me about Vinted (and Depop) is both of them seemed to have become overrun with business accounts selling clothes they've 'sourced' from charity shops/boot sales and vintage bundles. I'm not spending £50 on a secondhand jumper just because you've tacked 'vintage' or 'y2k' in the description.
13:00 It's weird that so educated and experienced person do not know that man is able to sexualized almost everything. I suppose that internet in last 10-15 years proved it very well.
How is this different to any other second hand selling site? If someone threatens you like what happened to this bloke, you call the police, not Vinted! As for that rogue website, yes it needs pulling down but also don’t upload photos of yourself online if you don’t want them to be seen. This goes for any online profile. Jeez… are people this daft when it comes to the internet?
The retailer could verify the complaint, ask the perpetrator to stop and pass their details to the police. The police should act on threats of violence. They should raid his premises if he has threatened to use a firearm. The platform and police have responsibilities too.
It's no different. You have to provide your address to any seller you deal with online. And like you say, if someone is threatening you, thats not a job for a second-hand clothing site. They'll block someone but violent threats are a police matter.
I absolutely agree.. this is a police matter, not sure what people think Vinted could do... of you meet someone at a club that starts stalking you, you don't go back to the nightclub and complain to them ...
The public have slowly come to accept police failure since Theresa May started to underfund the service. Subsequent conservative administrations continued that trend. Most people now accept that it is more likely than not that the police will find an excuse not to investigate crimes and so don't even bother to report them. The police then claim that crime is down when it is in fact reporting that is down because of lack of trust in the service. They might make an exception for you if you are a high profile person like Taylor Swift or a Judge or an MP. The police service is no longer fit for purpose and the conservatives are not the party of law and order.
They only issue I can see here of any concern if that vinted did not close the messaging system on the account which was shut down, everything else is out of their control, its almost impossible to monitor items which have been recalled as some of them get fixed for instance and then are released again, that's a minefield even ebay and amazon cant traverse, so really its unfair to suggest they are doing something dark behind the scenes when this is normal behaviour. You certainly cant blame vinted for people perving over womens photos. Seems to me very little of concern was found which simply does not justify this title of this video in any way, Vinted should really ask for a takedown here. I do however think their support section needs work but ebays is far worse, every large companies with over 250k customers should be forced to provide a support service by phone or live chat with an actual person as a bar minimum.
This happens on depop too!!! I listed a top and I noticed a man liked it which I found strange and then I went to the profiles likes, and it was full of similar pictures of women selling clothes and the user had no other activity apart of this. I reported this to depop as I found this quite distressing that mine and other women’s pictures were unknowingly being sexualised by a stranger but they said they couldn’t do anything about it.
In the case of someone being threatened by a seller, Vinted told him to contact the police, and the police wouldnt help, this is a bad situation obviosly, but i fail to see how vinted are to blame, telling him to speak to the police is the correct thing to do, it's not their fault if the police wont help him. Also, in the case of 3rd parties compiling photos of users, again awful, but what on earth is vinted meant to do to stop this, it's not their fault that people suck.
such a shame about the website featuring women that was set up because it's so helpful having people model the clothes you're buying. Why do people always ruin things?
Maybe I'm cynical, but expecting customer service support from many companies is naive. Fiduciary Responsibility has been twisted to mean spend nothing on your customers, support for brand protection seems an old idea, it's just a cost centre now. Shame, but people are too busy to shop around, so get shafted
it's not just vinted this is a big issue eBay as well as business seller we have to put our business address even if it is our home address but other countries don't have to do this
It’s the same with eBay, I came across an old csi kit for kids on there which got recalled in the 2000s because the fingerprint dust contained the worst type of asbestos, I told eBay and they took the ad down immediately but they kept popping up, I kept searching and reporting it for a while because the fact someone may have bought this for their kid worried me, I called them again and they said they had passed it onto another department, this happens all the time always research what you’re buying, iv also seen these kits in charity shops it needs more awareness ❤
This one was from the 2000s and think it was based around the csi program? Have a Google as they seem to pop up in charity shops quite a bit iv seen 2, I was shocked that this happened so recently but also Google ‘Claire’s accessories makeup asbestos’…shocking

Heres the thing though. This spot light is the kind of thing that will result in restrictions and regulations that wont harm the company but will make selling and buying harder. When the very very vast majoirty of people have a fine experience. An individual case or a handfull of potentially dangerous are not representive of the majority of the app and sometimes we should just trust people to not buy dumb ass stuff and if they do thst should be on them. Very creepy for sure, but have you guys seen the internet? All photos on the internet can be subject to the same thing, especially if linked to a physical address, don't people know this already? The idea of asking Vinted to fix that seems pretty weird, did they manage to get the site taken down? Expect 5 more to pop up in its place. There are serious things to worry about, this isn't one of them IMO (to clarify: threats are a police matter, be careful how you share your data on the internet. Pervy sites on the internet are here to stay I imagine, let's focus on the ones that deal with children or abuse etc)

Let adults make their own decisions, if they want to buy used cosmetics or second hand electricals what is YOUR problem? if Vinted was to do all those checks they would need to charge and one of the reasons ppl buy on it is because it is cheap. So from the competition perspective you're lobbying for the market to be less competitive for customers. All those "protections" and "guarantees" well-meaning people demand come with a price tag and eventually the measures turn against those who want to be able to choose. When the government wanted to limit numbers of repossessions banks had to tighten up their affordability criteria resulting in people being unable to take a mortgage even if their rent is currently higher than a mortgage repayment would be. If you want landlords to stick to particular standards the cost of it must be passed on the renter. What if I'm happy to live in a substandard but cheap accommodation for a period of time which would allow me to save money for a decent deposit? So essentially you can have safe or you can have cheaper but no idea whether it's safe? Are you happy with that across the board? Unsafe cars, unsafe electricals, unsafe food... It's not unreasonable to expect people to be able to buy things that are safe and many people don't have the knowledge to make that assessment.

I very much doubt it.
also facebook marketplace is a hive of scum and villainy... so I've heard
Lazy journalism. Dispatches has gone downhill. There’s no boundary here between what is Vinted’s fault and what isn’t, and what (if anything) is unique to Vinted among online reselling platforms.
And does anyone else laugh at the cheesy 90s camera techniques? Show the person talking and then show them from a side view… or wobble the camera a bit to stop it being static… oh puh-lease…..:)
I mean its cheap to do? Having crane cameras is expensive also they probably dont want to make it like joe rogan too as it has different tone
I would appreciate not promoting GAILS's - they don't accept cash.
Well I’m sure they’ll stop and do everything they can just to make you happy
And it's also a zionist body that supports the genocide in Palestine
How do you mean? You can't pay cash online can you?
@@andrina118Gail’s is her coffee cup. They don’t take cash in their shops. There are a number of reasons why it’s problematic to refuse to take cash in face to face shops.
(596m euro, because they are Lithuanian)
Leagues behind eBay
Good point.
Ebay have now removed all seller fees, apps like vinted are definitely becoming a threat as ebay is notorious for squeezing its users.
This isn’t unique, had it on facebook marketplace, ebay, as a buyer, and as a seller.
Fortunately I’m careful about handing out details and fortunately haven’t found my self feeling like I was in genuine danger…
…But have had death threats against me and my family from someone who had my address, for simply asking if the parcel had been shipped yet because it was supposed to have already arrived…
Maybe people act that way in person too, but they are way over-represented online.
Anyone else been shopping at charity shops all their adult lives and this online clothes marketplace trend has completely passed them by? My cat put some holes in my Ralph Lauren t-shirt a few weeks ago, but give it only cost me about £5, the subsequent bad mood did not last very long 😂
I do wonder if charity shops are struggling more now people are potentially selling clothes online instead of donating them?
As I understand charity shops are struggling under the immense amount of cheap/crap quality shein-esque fast fashion rags that dont last long, so charity shops are struggling to process them all, so usually end up having to put them in the trash anyway sadly 😒
"Vinted’s Dirty Laundry airs on Friday" nice pun
We had gumtree love, 2nd hand isnt a young person thing.. People been doing it forever, i really hate it how naive people think it didnt happen until they started doing it
I don't think anyone claimed that vinted or young people invented second hand selling. If you're getting so bothered by this might I suggest you step away from the internet for a while to get some perspective.
Gumtree? Friday Ad. Loot. Exchange and mart. Newsagents windows.
I still use Gumtree, to find Ebay stock 😁
We had charity shops and car boots, love. Nothing is new
Investigate to why Vinted are not paying or delaying payouts for Pro users.
The general public doesn't deserve the internet.
The police service is no longer fit for purpose and the conservatives are not the party of law and order.
how can the police not help him, it is literally their job
That's insane....some mad creeps online.....
They don’t care.
Freaky incels will always find a way
If you're going to put photos of yourself online, men are going to jerk...
Men.
Men. Not "people".

Is Gail’s sponsoring this?
It's called product placement and has been around since the dawn of television
Maybe I'm cynical, but expecting customer service support from many companies is naive. Fiduciary Responsibility has been twisted to mean spend nothing on your customers, support for brand protection seems an old idea, it's just a cost centre now. Shame, but people are too busy to shop around, so get shafted
Even if you do have enough free time to shop around, you’ll most likely get the same shoddy service wherever you look. No wonder people don’t bother.
it's not just vinted this is a big issue eBay as well as business seller we have to put our business address even if it is our home address but other countries don't have to do this
Is her voice sped up? Maybe it's my phone. Makes me feel a little crazy.
That’s scary!
sounds like the kids science kits from the 50s which had very dangerous chemicals essentially explosives
This one was from the 2000s and think it was based around the csi program? Have a Google as they seem to pop up in charity shops quite a bit iv seen 2, I was shocked that this happened so recently but also Google ‘Claire’s accessories makeup asbestos’…shocking

I didn't know what self feeding pillows are, I do now. I've never had or experienced a baby before but one look at the pictures I could tell that would be a no-no, Has common sense gone🤔
That sucks for that guy but that could have happened buying off ebay and you are literally discouraged from sending packages to your home address. This just feels like making an issue out of not alot
Why isn't vinted sueing that creepy website for breech of trademarks. It's awful something like that exists.
There are serious things to worry about, this isn't one of them IMO
(to clarify: threats are a police matter, be careful how you share your data on the internet. Pervy sites on the internet are here to stay I imagine, let's focus on the ones that deal with children or abuse etc)
All selling platforms no matter what gives address to the sellers obviously if you break gdpr law it's a legal issue if someone is abusing that vinted removed them from the platform they aren't gonna be sending security.
Police have to get involved it was kinda pointless saying that story, same thing can happen on eBay FB marketplace, etc.

My experiences of Vinted are positive ones.
Mine too, even when sending things back.

I thought it was funny that she talks about make cutbacks and the cost of loving crisis yet is sat there with a Gail's mug in front of her 😂
I mean Gails is middle class but it's not exactly opulent, its a few quid. She's probably doing alright but she can still comment on the general cost of living crisis that's going on. I'd rather that than someone claiming it's not going on whilst enjoying their own luxuries in their little bubble.

I dont believe for one second the police said they were unable to help him, this story is dodgy as hell, the police take threats including fire arms extremely seriously, especially when they are actually documented in writing. I'm calling bullsh!t on this.
I am the person this is about. I sent all screenshots to the police who initially asked me to go in to the station to give a statement and then a day later said not to bother because there was nothing they could do about it.
@@russoisdead Perhaps you are him but I still do not believe the police would dismiss evidence of gun threats that you had written evidence of, I can only assume Some part of what has been reported here is incorrect or untrue As I know for a fact the police would have acted on this and would have investigated further without dismissing it as you have suggested.

Admittedly i'm only 6 mins in but I'm already annoyed. What if i don't mind buying maybe even faulty hairdryer on Vinted because i know i have skills to repair it. Some people find it gross wear second-hand clothes but some don't mind and it is not your place to tell them how they should feel about it. Using Vinted is not mandatory as long as the descriptions are clear and not misleading it's fine. Don't like it - don't use it, there are plenty of places you can do your shopping instead.
Prevention is better than cure
@@DW-indeedand it is your inalienable right to use your own due diligence when shopping in the private secondary market.
There's a huge number of consumers who need legislative protection because they don't understand the importance of safety controls whether it's due to vulnerability or just plain stupidity. It's just a shame we can't legislate against the latter
@@nicbobags8241 we're talking about buying second-hand goods from a designated website. If someone expects that second hand is always as good as new then god help them.
