All of Bird’s former teammates speak very highly of him! They loved playing with him because he didn’t care about personal stats! He just wanted the win! And he made a concerted effort to keep all of his teammates involved! He was a very unselfish player, even though he sure could have been! And the team knew , when the pressure was on, Bird would come through!

Enjoyed the vid! Robert Parrish is actually 7'1''. There's a video specifically about that 1986 Celtics/Rockets Championship game that you might enjoy. It includes the ending play in the Western Conference Finals with the Rockets/ Lakers, which is wild, if you've never seen it before. It's called "The Best Larry Bird Story Ever Told" on a channel called "Prime Larry Bird."

Thanks so much for sharing. I watched the 1986 Celtics with my Dad and I was so impressed with them and also loved the Rockets because I lived in Houston, who they played in the NBA finals. Houston was tough because they beat the Lakers to get to the finals.

Loved your description of the 86 Celtics, everybody was locked in, everybody was well oiled and when it was time to work it was time to work.
My favourite current Celtic is Derrick White partly because he reminds me of an 80s Celtics player, particularly DJ.

Yo! Twin Towers!!! That last one - where he's talking about Larry - he controlled the game! He did that almost each and every game he was in! This is what separates him from all the rest! Another thing that separates Larry Legend from the rest... He elevated his entire team to be better! He didn't hog the ball, he didn't jack 3's! Ever hear of "The Dagger 3?" He'd use it at the end of the game to demoralize the opponents, push his team to victory! It was: "A Dagger In Your Back, Through your MF'in Heart!" I'm pretty sure it wasn't for another year or more till Jordan got Pippin!!! OH! Domonique?!? That's his Double Pump Jam!!! Look at them again! LOL Yo! Thanks guys!

Add Nick Smith to the creators that you react to. He has a very funny compilation of Bird trash talking stories. It is in four parts cause there are so many but what makes it outstanding is he hunted down the footage so you see what the players are talking about.

That’s a lame excuse. If Jordan was as good as you think, he’d have elevated his team but he DIDNT. Larry MADE his teammates HOFers. It’s thanks to him and his assists to Robert & McHale, that their stats were so elevated. Jordan didn’t do the same and his teams subpar performance is entirely due to Jordan’s selfishness. So check yerself and your wholesale willingness to swallow the HYPE. Remember, Old broken down Larry STILL schooled Jordan EVEN AFTER HE GOT SCOTTIE PIPPEN. So you got NO excuse. Jordan had some decent teammates: Paxson was a sniper!

    • @CYRUS363

@@whenisdinner2137 🤣😂🤣 Ok. Bird had 5 HOF's and mostly because he made them HOF's.....I doubt any of those except for maybe McHale would have been HOF without Bird being the conductor for that orchestra. Bird had a squad of bums and took that squad, basically singlehandedly. to the finals his 2nd year and beat the 76'ers who had 5 legit HOF"s. Jordan couldn't do it with his bumsquad, snow sniffers or not. And ya, he gave Jordan nightmares.....even Jordan thanked him on video for retiring because of how many games Bird ruined for him.

The conventional understanding is that the Showtime Lakers were the fast break team and the Celtics were the disciplined half court team.
The reality, however, was that both squads could play both ways. The Lakers were lethal in the half court, and incredibly disciplined. And the Celtics' fast break game was a thing of beauty - the ball would get up court in seconds without touching the floor.
For my money, given the quality of opposition they faced, the 86 Celtic are *easily* the best squad ever. It isn't even a close comparison.

The entire 1985-1986 Celtic season was dedicated to returning to the playoffs, hoping to get back to the Lakers.
Robert Parish is 7'1" and has said, in several interviews, that about 5,000 of his career points came from Bird being willing to feed him the ball. Parish was always willing to run and get open for the outlet pass.
Danny Ainge was actually a starter, playing guard, alongside Dennis Johnson. Ainge was good at hitting the three off the kick out pass, if the middle got clogged.
Walton, luckily, was able to stay healthy for the 1986 season. But, in1987, not so much.
Jerry Sichting was another good shooter, coming off the bench, as did Walton.
No, the Boston Garden did not have air conditioning. In the 1984 playoffs, Kareem had to use oxygen, when on the bench, because the temperature in the building had reached 97⁰ by game time. So many people in the building, plus no ac, made it hard on the Lakers during their games at Boston. The Celtics eventually won that championship. The Lakers came back and won in 1985. Which, brings us back to this 1986 series.😊
Ball movement, complimentary players, determination with a plan from day one, and being led by Larry Bird made the Celtics the team they were in 1986. With a 40-1record at home for the regular season, and the added post season play, bringing the home record to 50-1, they created a record that still stands.
I enjoy your reviews and your comments on Larry Bird. I am not really a Celtic fan, as much as a Larry Bird fan. I do enjoy rewatching the era in which he played. It's okay to like the Lakers. 😳 I guess! 😜🤣

I know I am late to the party but I would like to say that the Celtics after this season drafted at no 2 overall pick a high flying powerful small forward that would compare to Dominique Wilkins. As a high school forward at the time Len Bias to me was the greatest college player I had watched play. Only Jordan was better but it was close. Len Bias overdosed celebrating his draft. Watch his highlights and picture what the 87' Celtics would have been

I think Parish and Walton were underlisted. I think they were both closer to 7'2". Walton was listed at 6'11" because he didnt like being thought of as a 7-footer. Not sure about the reasoning for Parish but you get them standing next to Kareem, very little difference

There were 3-4 players in the paint, and they looked like they were waiting for a bus. Look at the paint in the 80s. Im not knocking the game today. Its just not for me anymore.
