    Pretty versatile lens. Love the fact that it’s not that expensive compared to other competitors. *still pricey, but for what you get, it’s fair*

    Imagine if they could arrange a 24-105 f2.8 just like Canon did but cheaper. That would be endgame 4real.

    I have the Rokinon equivalent for E-mount. It is extremely versatile. The combination of zoom range as well as speed is perfect for the kind of work I do (nightclub, stage -- facial closeups at 150mm, whole stage at 35mm). But it is easily my most massive lens. I can't imagine running with it. Forget about shooting through it while running. Then again recent Panasonic IBIS is better than Sony's best efforts to date.

    Great video, definitely going for this lens. Most reviews I've seen are from photographers so it's great to see a video-centric review about this lens. You didn't mention anything about the Image Stabilization though, I'm guessing it doesn't have that feature. All good, that's not a deal breaker thanks to the IBIS on my S5iiX

    A lot of comments here about a 24-105 f2 .8 but I'm with you here on the 35-150! Especially if you're mainly behind-the-camera shooter. 24mm is too distorting and unflattering when shooting ppl imo. Also, don't discount 135mm for portraits. That was a common prime focal length in the vintage days and there's a good reason for that.

    How do you compare this to the sigma 28 45 1.8 ? I know they are 2 completely different lenses, but if you consider all the crops in 4k 60fps, and the estab mode you can get a 56 90 2.7 out of the sigma if my calculations are correct, and that also makes it pretty versatile. What your call?

  • @talpalatnyizold

    Why samyang does not make 24-105 f2 or f2.8? That would be more versatile in focal range. I have the pana 24-105 but that just f4.

    • @JJARCHIE
      @JJARCHIE 6 месяцев назад

      because the rf 24-105 f2.8 is masive ? and that even for an rf lens it distorts like hell ? and that samyang isnt really comfortable with zooms yet ? and that the 35-150 and their 24-70 is bigger than their opponent ?

      @@talpalatnyizold tldr: its hard , real hard for a 4x zoom with constant aperture
      The canon even saved by their rf mount was massive with problems on the 24-30mm wide end where it distorts a lot.
      The 24-105 2.8 is harder to pull of than a 28-70 f2 , its why that a 24105 2.8 will most likely take a while even for brands like sigma.
      Samyang"s offering are also larger than their competitor like sigmas and tamron , its even larger than a GM lens ffs, a 24-105 2.8 done on E mount ( e mount gets more sales so samyang will target it ) will be 10-20% larger than canon's version and add to it 20-30% larger and heavier due to samyang"s inability to downsize much ( evident by their zooms )

    The Sony version of this lens had all kinds of problems. the lens barrel creep, the mount base screws not being long enough for the weight of the lens..
    I ended up going for the Tamron version. It was a little more pricey but i got a 6 year warranty. the Samyang version is only 1 year. Hope they fixed it on these L mount ones. This focal range is killer

    I think the 24-105 is probably more versatile...there are probably tons of situations where i would want to go from 24 to 35, fewer times where i want to go from 105-150 (it's kind of a no man's land until you get up to the higher ones). I do think that it's aperture is much nicer though. You could also say that getting an 18 and 24 prime might be a nice combo with this for everything longer?
    typically you would have the 24-70 and the 70-200
    still looks pretty cool, but I think for like handheld vlogs, it will probably be too tight, have you tried walking and talking?

      Like you said in the video 24-70 f/2.8 can be a whole career, but i don't think having extra reach is the limiting factor. Really don't want to give up 24mm, would love to have even wider...

    Did you happen to try the lens at all on an original S5 or S1H body? I could be wrong but every review I've seen thus far has only reviewed it on the S5II/x and like I get it since its the latest and greatest, but I feel like theres a ton of folks still on the OG s5 and S1h and im curious exactly how much worse the autofocus is since its not using PDAF. I bought my S5 used for $750 off of a guy from Facebook marketplace in March of 2023 and I feel like itll be quite a while before the s5II/x hits that price lol

    Thank you for the very informative review. A lens of this focal length and aperture range would be perfect for what I do, documentary and corporate work. I'm currently running the Panasonic 24-105 and 50mm f1.8, but this could replace both. Hopefully, they will fix/improve the autofocus and it will be a one and done lens. Okay, maybe pair it with a second body and a 24mm f1.8. It weighs about the same or less than the Sigma 24-105m f4 with Sigma MC21 adapter, which is fine. But overall, I can see this lens handling just about anything I shoot.

      The 24-105 is a beast, I love it. Depending on how you use it, it CAN be a 35-150. On a super 35 camera that's the effective focal length. Same as using a .72x speedbooster on micro 4/3. I have my 24-105L f4 on a .64x booster on a BMPCC4K = 28-135mm f/2.6

      @@ScreenFiends I never said I could afford it.
      The other thing about this 35-150 lens seems silly is the f2 aperture at the wide end. I bet a lot of people would rather make it a 2.8 constant with more on the wide angle. Even if it were 28-150 f2.8, that would be more compelling.

    Canon's 24-105 f/2.8 is more useful, at least for movies, where wide angle is must-have. And it works well with ibis/is. This one has no IS. The only thing it really has going for it is the low price and the lower light capability at 35mm (you're supposed to bring your own light in movies anyway though). Good for Panasonic cameras (since it probably has no competition in that space), but not as good as Canon's offering though.

    • @ScreenFiends
      @ScreenFiends 6 месяцев назад

      As I mention in another comment, the Canon lens, while amazing is also over 2.5x more expensive than this at around £3500. That's a silly price. I'd rather this.
