Great video! Thanks so much for taking the time to go so in-depth. We are still quite tempted, but possibly we need to wait to get the Tamron for the slightly lighter package and the slight improvement in IQ.
There is no hiding it, Tamron is a better lens overall. This is pretty close behind though and it is made for all those who can't stretch their budget to the price of Tamron or who are loyal to the Samyang brand. Thanks for watching guys!
Thanks for the review. What I don't get is why people are complaining about the weight. What would be different from carrying a lens kit consisting of 24-70 f2.8 and 70-200 f2.8 for example, which together actually weigh more? Or shooting with a 70-200 f2.8 GM2 at only 200 g less? I used to shoot weddings (and not just me, that's certain) with a Canon 5D mk3 with battery grip on, 70-200 f2.8 and sometimes with a speedlight mounted on. Now that is heavy!
I bought my Samyang 35-150 in BH for a thousand dollars, already updated to version 2, and I have nothing to complain about, the auto focus for videos and photos are excellent on my Sony a7iv. The material is not bad, the problem with Tamron is that if you pay 2000 thousand dollars and sell it you will lose a lot of money.
I bought one and returned it, the focus was way off what it was supposed to be(I adjusted it with the dock) but then I found out that many images were fine in the center but the whole left side of the image was blurred, I'm thinking whether to buy another one and see if I get a good copy or pass on this lens.
I also bought this lens on preorder and this first lens whas not what I expected in terms of AF. Especially wide open. So I returned it. After that I bought another copy that was not one of the first copies and was bought from Germany not Romania like the first one. This second copy is really great also in terms of AF and IQ.
Man, I really hope that one/some of these manufacturers simply comes-out with an (updated) full-frame 24/35mm to 85mm F2, F2.8 or something. I understand this 35 to 150 zoom range has its use, niche and market, but I am really hoping for something more compact these days 😢
@@PavSZ I don't really film vlog style anymore as I used to. These days it's more talking-head videos and just capturing moments of my loved ones while travelling, so I can make do with losing anything 24mm and below I really wish there was a 28 to 85 or a 35 to 85 with decently wide aperture 😢 something that also works well when jumping into apsc mode for a 130mm equiv on the long end ~ dreams will be dreams though, haha 😂
@@x_jaydn but .... there is Tamron (again!) 28-75mm f2.8 (and Sigma as well). I think you are overcomplicating it - there are lots of options to give you that focal range, or almost
Im in the moment of deciding if i should switch from Nikon Z6 to Sony (a7c2) and looking for some lenses. As I’m a Theatre Photographer for living the combo of a7 + Samyang 35-150 + Sigma 16-28 would be more than enough for me at the moment. (Later I’d buy some fixed focal length fast lens for backstage) Originally I was heading for Tamron, but in price of Tamron I can get two those lenses and I’m very close to that decision. Only thing that keeps me from samyang is self extending barrel… but I don’t have to stick with this lens for rest of my life. I will give it a try 😊 thanks for the video!
Sorry for the review one year later, I am planning to buy this lens recently. Can the two buttons of the lens be customized to human eye focus lock on the Sony body? Thank you so much
Pav! Please help. I am torn between this and the Tamron. In your personal opinion, if money isn't an issue, which would you get to shoot events? Thanks man.
@@PavSZthere is essentially only you, Tom Calton and Arthur R Three whole reviewers... Feels like Tamron pays to keep the Samyang a secret or something. Or Samyang is terrible at marketing and reaching out to reviewers.
This lens is so tempting. This and a Tamron 20-40mm F/2.8 Di III VXD, , covering 20 to 150 mm. If Samyang would make something around 20-40mm f/2.8, that would be such a cost saver.
It´s the equivalent of 24-105F4 crop with faster F-stop.... about time. Been using this focal length for ages on my crop bodies. Pair it with a 20mmF1.8, complete duo.
I've read some reviews by people who had the screws on the mount loosen over time and literally fall off their camera. The worst part is Samyang didn't stand by their products and stopped communicating with them altogether. Hopefully they've learned from it and fixed the problem. Buyers of used (older) copies beware. BTW, are the Rokinon versions identical? For some reason I see they're slightly less expensive.
I have been told that this problem was only present with early versions of 24-70mm lens and they have already addressed the issue. I think Rokinon is identical / same brand
I only came here to hear you mispronounce english words ;) Joke - love your videos and bought the Sigma 16-28 recently after watching your review. So now Im here on youtube, watching reviews again :)
@@PavSZ if i am taking pictures with it yes, but if i am walking with it i feel like the mount is gonna break. One thing i do not like with samyang zoom lock is when you attached the lens hood in reverse it is hard to flick that switch.
Damn Rokinon coming out swinging with this one. Beautiful work friend!
L-mount coming soon as well!
thanks dude
I shot an MMA event with it and it was absolutely incredible.
it is a decent lens for sure
Idk if you can answer this question, but I'm asking since you mentioned MMA, a high action sport. Does the AF keep up in video for fast action?
