This may sound odd, but your videos are like “comfort food” to me. They’re relatable and enjoyable without being over the top with gimmicks and the latest and greatest overpriced tech. You’ve captured the essence of “less is more”, which I really appreciate.
Nigel is one of the rare content creators whose passion for his craft shines through in every video. You can truly feel the authenticity and dedication he brings to his work. What I admire most is his decision to steer clear of the trends that often make other RUclipsrs seem gimmicky. Instead, he creates content straight from the heart. While channels like his may not always go viral or achieve massive growth, I’m grateful that we still have creators like Nigel who are living proof that genuine, heartfelt content has its own special value.
Your B-roll is A-roll. So good I don't even care about all the skateboarding :) Also on the DJI version, got it with a ND ring from a drone pilot, at €240-ish the largest single purchase for my low budget MFT kit. It's a total killer. On G80 and G90 the 4k crop gets it to around 35-38mm, still usable in tight spaces.
Great video! The audio is next level when listening with headphones. I’ve heard you on your podcast say if you can have one lens it’d be this for mft. Glad you made such a great video for it.
I’ve almost pulled the trigger on the 15 a few times on mpb - it’s deff my next lens to get. I deff love the 14 and was sad to hear they discontinued it.
I truly regret selling my GH4 and GX85 and all my micro 4/3 lenses. I moved to Panasonic Full frame S5 and invested in the primes. I'm hoping Panasonic makes an updated GX85. That would be my dream camera and I'd fully reinvest into Micro 4/3. The G9ii and GH7 are amazing I just love the rangefinder style of the GX series.
The GH5 is readily available secondhand, and the GX85 turns up for reasonable prices now and again. If I was starting over in micro four thirds on a budget, they are what I would buy.
I shoot with a big Canon C300MKII and sometimes my R5. I also just bought two R5Cs and they are all great cameras and make me a living...but sometimes, when I'm out and about or with the family I just shoot with a Canon M50 micro 4/3rds camera and a couple of lenses. And oddly, I keep finding that I just have more fun and capture great shots when I'm not hindered by so many lens and gear choices. Kind of like how I remember it was when I first got started.
Hey Nigel, what quality/codec settings have you typically been using on the various shots with Panasonic cameras (especially GH3 to GH5) to get the results you're getting, especially in the high contrast environments (e.g. sunny days)? Any chance to accomplish this with 8bit/4:2:0 at all, or is it all 10bit/4:2:2 and knowing what you're doing in post/grading? Thanks!
Great lens. I bought it for a second time earlier this year; glad I did not sell the GX80 which was sitting on the shelf for three years, but using it again - yes it was the small lenses that won out over L-mount and X-mount.
Hey Nigel. I want to get my first wide angle lens for video. I mainly take pictures of wildlife, but want to be able to take videos of the kids and maybe more environmental shots. I have the 100-400mm ii, a g9, and a g9ii. I don’t know if to go for the 12-60mm f2.8-4 or the 35-100mm f2.8. What do you think? What is your go to lens?
Some confusion, so you use the 46mm pro mist but then a 62mm variable ND to make it easier to work with? So you use a bigger filter than necessary? Is that to give you a bigger ring to turn and adjust the ND? Seems strange to want a bigger filter when you use the small size as the main point.
The larger filter can then fit on different size lenses 👍 that way, you dont have to buy say a 52mm filter for one lens, then a 72mm filter for another lens, then a 48mm filter for yes another lens. If you just buy a big filter, use stepdown rings in the smaller lenses 🤓
I already had 62mm vnd and the 46mm mist was cheaper, So I opted for the 46mm mist and 62mm vnd since a lot of my other lenses were standardized to 62mm, if that makes sense?
I get that you need content, but being so non-committal about cheap solutions that every video is a new, life-changing product, the one you'll ever need, etc. makes your raving reviews not only pointless, but also disingenuous...
If one can use a product to great effect, it could be life-changing. Products ending up useless in the process of implementing serious ideas could also be life-changing.
Great video man I have an original black magic pocket and I just picked one up. I never knew about this lens and I think you’ll be perfect for my little set up

Agree with this completely
Hopefully not unhealthy like comfort food usually do 😅
means a lot, kinda exactly what I aim for!
Exactly!! I left a comment that so similar to this which is surprising 😂

I agree that the gx85 needs a remake for sure!

Now they just need to put the g9ii in a gx85 body with a mic jack... and lumix will get me for sure.
Woho! That one came with my BMPCC OG i bought a month ago for for $500, the non DJI one. :)

Coupled with the GH3 is beast! Shout out to the GH3 still being a workhorse.
This is one of my favourite MFT lens closely followed by the 25 mm F1.4 Lumix Leica
absolutely nailed it with this one, my friend!
Thanks Chris!
I LOVE THIS LENS.
I just got my first MFT, the OM1 and paired it with this lens . Glad i made the right choice 😅
That's a great set up!
This is one of my favorite native lens for my GH5! Pretty much stays on my camera. The other is the 42.5 f/1.2 by Lecia as well.
Nice and compact lens, I love it!

i used the same setup for 4 years.
Beautiful, as usual. So happy to keep watching this mft content

The only mft lens i can't sell. Cheers!
I feel that for sure!
🤣 So we all have to buy cheap Lenses to change our lives, not ! I like high end Lenses !
not the the point of the video but yeah high end lenses are cool too

This is better than someone shoving S5IIX Millennium 16-Bit Raw Edition down my throat for views and affiliate links.
Nigel has been praising this lens for years. It's nothing new for him.
Don’t listen to this guy. This was a great video.
