Many thanks hope to do many more! Yes true the rosette can be worn on the Sierra Leone Medal but think only certain zones ? And the rosette is like the Falklands one not like the OP/Telic Iraq / Afghanistan as they are a bit smaller 👍
Great videos. As an add on to your info on the RAF SAM. When the allocation was first compiled for distribution the RAF were only allocated 200 medals. this was prior to the wider distribution to include the Ascension Island etc. The RAF had complained that the meagre award to only 200 was considered an unfair reflection on their contribution and should also include areas of operation such as the Asc. Isl. Consequently, the medal allocation was altered to reflect this and the medal allocation was increased to c.2000, mostly without the combat rosette. The original allocation to the RAF of 200 SAMs, with rosette, still stood making this a pretty scarce award to the RAF and a medal that's increasingly hard to find.
Great question! Some people use copy’s or replacement medals for parades or normal service wear. As they keep the originals in a safe place or they may have the original medals on display or for safe keeping. Or sometime medals are damaged lost or stolen so it’s good in this case as service personnel can get these medals replaced easy as long as they purchase from a MOD Licensed suppliers. Thanks again for this excellent question 👍👍👍👏👏
Thanks for posting this video. i have one of these medals, the recipient was in the Merchant Navy & only their name is inscribed on the rim. I would like to find out more about the recipient. Any ideas where I could research further? Thanks.
Hi yes thanks for your comment please Google the Merchant Navy Association and ask them hopefully they may direct you some useful information or maybe 🤔 someone will see your comment and help. Or Google and look what comes up you may get a lead let me know how you get on thanks

@@windsormedals, on second thought they may have been Canadian(s) employed by american media companies. My information is from a late 1980's journalism lecture while in college. This lecturer has long since passed, so I can't site his source.
I know that the Sierra Leone OSM medal can have a rosette on it. These videos about medals are really interesting.

Regarding the ribbon, the colours are of course the same as the WW2 Atlantic Star.

@@windsormedals Will do. Many thanks.
Am I alone in finding the trading/selling of these, or indeed any medals, distasteful? They are supposed to represent more than just cash.
I believe that there were one or two American journalists awarded this medal w/rosette for services to the crown.
Thanks for that info very interesting !!
