Tarp Wall Tent Camping

- With the expert help of Crazy Neighbor I taped together some tarps and ratchet straps and made some form of Frankenstein wall tent, and went camping! The project actually turned out far better than I had originally thought. We had one of my standby camping meals of onion burgers. Some rain fell through the evening and overnight, but not too much to dampen our spirits.

Funny story: i just was in a small beer market in Russia (I'm American), and when I grabbed a few beers I absentmindedly said aloud "a couple of step twos" (I had just watched one of your videos while on an airport express train from Vladivostok to Artem), and a Russian guy a few feet away said "Hunker Down" in quite a strong accent. Apparently he watches RUclips to practice English, and he also is a fan of your channel. The "step two" helped me make a new friend in this far-flung middle of nowhere!
That's excellent! I'm American as well and I want to go to Russia.
Bringing peoples together with the power of stealth camping and beer! Great story.
@@Andrew-uw5gz you're more than free not to believe the story. Doesn't change the fact that it happened 😁 Maybe you should get out, travel the world some. You'd be surprised at how many obscure references random people understand. Having lived abroad since 2013, I've made many friends from references to RUclips personalities, movies, songs, etc.
@@writerbill1 You should definitely visit! It's a beautiful country. I particularly recommended the Far East. I find it much better than Moscow or St. Petersburg. Primorsky Krai and Kamchatka are simply stunning!
No....no you didn't., but I know I GUY who did.
The whole discussion on the shoes coming untied is peak "Camping with Steve". Makes me feel like I am just hanging out with my buddies.
I couldn't tell if it was serious or not.
I was so drawn in waiting for the punch line, lol.
That was a stoney conversation if I’ve ever seen one. Notice the quick cut at 15:59. Wonder what they did there? 🤔
@@UltraGeezer first reaction i had LOL
Hit me in the feels
Steve: "My shoes keep coming untied lately."
Crazy neighbor: " Really, ? Hmm." Lol
Some intense camp fire conversation 🤣🤣
Anything that connects two people around a campfire is a good conversation. Easy, calm, and not too spicy topics are the best!
Double knotred French knot!
I was absolutely riveted. When he said "How's your aglets" all dead pan...hilarious.
Nothin' like a good burger, a good beer and a good friend to sort out the complexities of life, eh?
Whenever a video starts out with Crazy Neighbor bounding out and giving his signature salute, you know it's going to be a winner!
I read this right while he was doing it, lol. Nice bit of augmented reality.
I look forward to seeing Crazy Neighbor
I could do without crazy neighbour

@@Steven-xc9qv C.N. makes this more entertaining to watch, don't like C.N.... go watch someone else.
Ever since I started watching Steve I've gotten more into the camping and cabin videos. I have to say I appreciate Steve's down to earth kinda approach and the fact he really talks to you. He kinda seems more like a friend and less like a host...ish/RUclipsr guy.
The funny part is that my idea of camping is a Fairfield Inn...I have no desire to camp outdoors at all, but I really enjoy Steve's videos. I have a feeling what you see on here is very much the way he is in person. It's not about him as much as it is the shared experience.
Gotta love two grown men building a fort in the woods. Makes me smile wide. Thanks for the constant flow of content Steve and crazy neighbor. Legends!
Fort? In the woods? 🤣
I was lucky to find steve and crazy neighbor i sat one whole afternoon binge watching these great friends entertain us all thanks guys
I think part of the enjoyment of watching a camping with steve video is the fact he doesn't pretend to be an outdoorsman or survivalist. He uses propane heaters in every type of shelter and makes his fires by pouring as much accelerant as available to make sure a whole log catches fire. No flint, no fancy knots, and beer - the way most of us actually camp.
The conversation from 16:13 to 17:40 is an absolute gem
That's why I love this channel, just dudes being themselves. Not putting on a fake personality for RUclips
"But mines always the right one...".
Priceless conversation.
The most Canadian conversation ever! 😂
I'm so glad this commit exist.
“My shoelaces been coming untied lately”. LOL. Idk why but that made me laugh outloud. Riveting campfire conversations. 😆
Made me laugh as well! 🤣
Outstanding
Mine too. For last 5 years. Chinese plot?
Why do you hate Men so much?
Dawn Kennedy,...At least you can still reach yours. I have to hold my breath & pray I can get one tied before I run out of breath.
Steve, I love you man, but you don't need to defend yourself every video on why you are camping and why you are not doing something specific. We all love the choices you make!
Them making campfire conversation over the shoelace thing has got to be the most Canadian conversation I’ve heard in a long time haha
*Uncomfortable silence
“So…my shoe’s been comin’ untied recently.”
“Really? …which foot?”
Hahahahahahahhaa 😂
This whole channel is a lesson in just winging it with style.
This whole conversation was straight out of a Coen brothers movie I swear. These guys are great.
I died when they had a full on conversation about that 😂😂
@@Yaboishwa "How're your aglets?"

That shoelace conversation is right up with the Pulp Fiction "Royal with cheese" and Seinfeld's "Golf ball in the whale" bit. Smart entertainment along with the fascinating camping approaches! Better than anything on network TV!
LOL I know I was sitting here going okay why am I listening to a conversation about shoelaces and then I go hmm why am I amused about a conversation about shoelaces .. or maybe it was being amused about a conversation about shoelaces amused me more ... either way crazy neighbor Glen and Steve are a very subtle comic duo . Cheers
As long as there was no foot massage talk 😂
It’s possible marijuana inspired that conversation, crazy neighbor looked stoned lol during that conversation.
Tiny bit of wax or shoe polish on the laces will solve the untying problem. Critical step to any hiking boots before every season!
That was almost like it was scripted, I was laughing so hard and like said above it was very similar to the le big mac scene from pulp fiction.
The shoelace conversation was like something out of a Tarantino movie.
I died laughing
I am in my 60’s and have been camping since I was about 13-14. All those years ago I camped with three great friends. And……I still camp out with those wonderful friends. We all went to college, had good careers and managed to stay within about 100 miles of each other. Now, we are all finally retired and are fortunate to have land on which to get together and camp. Your videos are inspiring, informative and soooo relaxing. Thanks.
Fuck man I wish that were me. I had a great camping run when I was 17-20 with my best friends. I'm 22 now and I haven't camped since then and those friends have grown so distant I don't really feel like I know them anymore.
I don't remember how I stumbled across your channel but man am I glad I did, the only complaint I have is I've already watched everything and wish there was more! Keep it up my friend and my best wishes to you, your beautiful wife and of course crazy neighbor!
That fireside chat about shoelaces was surreal comedy gold - like something out of Seinfeld! Gotta be one of the best videos yet - next Thursday can't come around quick enough to watch the next one. Happy 40th Steve and thx for all the entertainment
It might be the weather
The shoelace conversation was gold. Definitely channeling Seinfeld there!
"how are your aglets?"
A shoe salesman taught my parents something called a Zimmernam Knot. It doesn't come untied until you pull the end of the lace. Works really great for kids shoes...which never seem to stay tied.
goes back to Paulie from The Saprano's talking about shoe laces by the urinal.....
That shoelace conversation could have easily been a Samuel Beckett play. This video is one of your best, Steve & Crazy Neighbour. I laughed along with you at several points. Thank you!
Do you remember the UFO conversation? It pulls a close second to this one!! lol!!

This content is honestly so relaxing and feelgood - and it's not the format either because there's loads on YT. It's the personalities. These videos with Crazy Neighbour are absolutely my favourite, the vibe is just like kicking your shoes off at the end of the day and sitting back in your chair with a nice drink. Ahhhhh.
After discovering Steve recently and binge watching his videos my 8 year old son and I are off on our first camping adventure this weekend and we can’t wait. Thanks for the inspiration Steve and getting us into camping, we love this channel 😊

After years of buying tents I decided to follow in your footsteps and make my own, my 12x10 tarp palace is the envy of elk camp !
Hopefully the laces on those footsteps were securely tied.
I got to tell you I love this car I used to have a beautiful Corvette I sold when I was younger I wish I still had it but I don't anyways you have fun I had a stupid neither stroke and it's left me pretty screwed up so you take care of yourself and I enjoy watching your videos it makes me think I can go out there and have some fun someday
Watching some of Steve's older videos because why not, the conversation between Steve and Crazy Neighbor about shoelaces was so wholesome and warming to watch. Happy memories. Rip CN

I would love a whole video of Steve and Crazy neighbor talking by the campfire.
Crazy Neighbor was genuinely proud, as he should be, of the work he and Steve did putting that tent together. I was proud to watch the video and support your Channel, Steve. Thanks for the continued great content. Cheers.
When I’m old I wanna be just like crazy neighbor. Such a free spirited man with drive to be engaged.
A very positive man but Steve was a bit of a complainer this time round.
Crazy Neighbor is such a dude, everytime he appears in the videos i genuinely say "Yeahhhhh Crazy Neighbor!" out loud :)
Steve: "a proper canvas wall tent can cost upwards of 1000 dollars..."
Me: 😳
Steve: "...OF MONEY"

Noooooooooooooooooo!
He's not wrong! A 12x10 canvas is about $500. Then you need stakes, support posts and ropes. It gets pricey in a hurry.
it sounded like he said cannabis wall tent - yeah that would be expensive 😂🤣🐸🐺🦒

Steve, the door could have been a zipper used in construction to seal off rooms that have been closed off with plastic. Good campfire subject convo on shoeslaces coming untied. There's been university studies on this. "In a new study, they found that the repeated impact of a shoe hitting the ground when we walk or run loosens the knot. Then, as we swing our legs, the whipping motion of the laces' free ends pulls them apart." There's at least 335,000 googles on how to stop that. Thanks guys. Been happening on my right foot for years. Now I know what to do.

Steve just made loose shoe strings interesting...
Always glad when I see crazy neighbor's appearances. Only Steve and Crazy Neighbor could hold my attention having a discussion about shoelaces.
Yes, I love it!
Hearing that discussion of "How many ways are there to tie a shoelace?" made me immediately think of an old website: "Ian's Shoelace Site" which describes all sorts of interesting knots. It had me realize I had often been tying a "granny knot" instead of a proper square knot when doing the standard two-loop tie and now my laces don't come untied.
My neighbors call me "Crazy Neighbor".
I wear that badge with pride... Thank you, Glen.

Quiet: Great minds at work. When a guy nicknamed "crazy neighbor" is the brains of the outfit...success is certain.
When I was a kid (about 50 years ago), my parents and I would go camping in the Oregon forest camps. Our tent was a sheet of clear plastic that my Dad fashioned into a "lean to." We were comfy, dry, and camping. 🏕 Good memories.
Same here, did a lot of camping as a kid 50+ years ago in Washington and I can't remember us ever owning a tent, it was cheap plastic tarps or nothing, my dad would say tents are for wimps. One time we wished we would of had a tent, we hiked into 7 lakes basin in the Olympic Mountains, all we had was the cheap plastic tarp on a rope between 2 trees, a hurricane force storm came through that night and we ended up huddled in a pile holding onto what tarp we could, rode that storm out like that all night, we could feel the tree roots moving underneath us the wind was blowing so hard and moving the trees around. We woke to find Bear tracks all around us in the mud, a bear must of circled us a couple times sniffing us. Everything we had was soaking wet, couldn't find anything dry enough to start a fire, there was an outhouse with cedar shingles and I tore a couple off the back of it that were dry to start a fire. That's when a forest ranger showed up!
He'd been watching us with binoculars from his wall tent around the lake, we didn't even know he was there, he suggested calling in a helicopter to get us off the mountain, said we were grossly unprepared, my dad told him we were fine, we got a fire started, that's when he suggested we could get a ticket for damaging government property for ripping shingles off the outhouse as he'd seen me do it. The ranger was nice enough to let us dry out some of our stuff in his wall tent, it had a wood stove in it, it was fancy, surprised he didn't have a washer and dryer. We dried our stuff and stayed another day, roughing it was fun, but my Dad eventually bought a 40 foot school bus and we converted it to a camper, but that's a whole other story/s ! ;)
@Dan Thomas That's a pretty good story!
"It's as if we knew what we were doing."
