Don't get lugged soles. They get caught on the pegs all the time. If you are turning sharp and stick your leg out, they will grip in the dirt and potentially destroy your knee. If you spend most of your time on a motorcycle, then get boots intended for that. Lugged soles also provide extra rubber which makes it even harder to feel the pegs and controls. Sidi X3 standard sole is my top pick boot. Sidi SRS models with enduro sole are the worst.

Can’t see how the gaerne type enduro sole can get caught on pegs...
if you’re doing (hard) enduro then you will have more chance of injuring yourself when you don’t have good grip on the ground.

Always appreciate your views. My next set of SG12s will have the enduro soles, but I'm not going to buy a new set for that sole. I have a pair that needs a resole, I'll probably check with the repair place to see if that's an option.

Hey, man, thank you for this. I'm buying my first bike in a long, long time and your videos have really helped inform and inspire that move.
I've been looking at lugs for my first boot, but getting hung up on pegs seems like a bad deal. Maybe if I do more on the touring side. But I live in Boulder and ten minutes to the dirt road up, so I kinda know the ways I want to go up some of the stuff I've been eying on the MTB all these years, and I don't think I want to get hung up on the pegs becoming a theme, well, like other things have become in my MTB world. Maybe the second pair I buy from you all is lugged :-)

Great video. Informative and concise. Really helped settle things for me as a total beginner buying his first pair of boots. Cheers!

I have the SG10's . I'm 64 this year and I'm riding off road jeep trail . I wanted something with lateral support in the boots and the higher end motocross have it . The first thing I did was take the slick metal toe piece off . Just backing the bike out of the garage is like skating on ice with them on the boots . They are also slick as snot on rocks . Once I removed them I took my handpiece and a separating disk and cut a cross pattern into the sole about 1 inch from the very tip of the sole back . Now when you use the tip of the boot to back up or move forward the bike forward I don't slit or slide . The rest of the sole is fine .

I have had these put on my Gaerne All-Terrains a year ago and they have been good so far. Not as sticky as trials soles but alot more durable; they're not getting chewed up by off-road pegs.

My old boots are O'Neil ATV boots that are hiking boot lugs. I'm looking at the Sidi now. Thanks for the overview.

It depends. I was about to drop my bike when I was parking, it was wet, and I slipped with my Dayton touring boots. Since then, no more slick soles for me.

    Great video!
Do you guys sell the enduro soles for Gaerne boots by chance?
I have a pair of SG-12's that's due for sole replacement (bought them from you guys 5 years ago, two sets of soles later the boots are still going strong!) and I'd love to try the enduro version as we do a lot of "bike dragging".

Hi Brian. Could you do a review of the Falco Avantour line? They look like cool alternatives to the Big 4

The video is not a shootout between the brands. Instead it is trying to help decide if one wants a lugged sole.

I'd love enduro protection with real lugged adv soles and Waterproof for adv riding. Any models come to mind?
Like tech 7 hydratex with sidi adv2 sole.

don't need one, tend to hook on my foot pegs, dangerous. Regular sole is fine
