    Hope you enjoy this one, it was fun to do another Belgian train again. Even if it costed me a few hundred quid to get more footage of it. Still, thanks to 317Dan and KoploperMau for the extra footage to help me out! I'm out of joke gifts to not give away so free internet points for anyone who can guess all the exterior locations the trains were filmed at :)

      Surpised NMBS haven't done so already, especially since so many of their trains are vandalised. Even the new M7s aren't free of it.

    I can't imagine the sheer terror an unsuspecting wealthy foreigner arriving at a Belgian station, purchasing a first class ticket and expecting a clean, modern train would feel. These trains are so old their mere existence is a joke.

    • @MaverickHunterDaniel
      @MaverickHunterDaniel  4 месяца назад +1

      Fortunatley most wealthy suits will be travelling around Brussels or Antwerp and would 9/10 times be lucky enough to avoid these trains. Then again, there's always a chance...

    Some more infos: the versions made before 1970 sound like old slam door trains, while the newer units made in the 70's sound like the Class 319, being equipped with DC PWM. Also they're the last type of train without doors closing alarms. And they're only compatible with AM75's as they have Henricot couplers, where all the other Belgian EMU's have Scharfenberg couplers like most trains in mainland Europe. While I agree that they're now completely outdated in every sense of the term, these things are rock solid given that the oldest ones in service nowadays are about 55 years old. No I'm not kidding, the oldest ones still running were made around 1968. Their final days might come in the near future, as new M7 double deckers are being introduced on various Intercity services since 2020, sending the unadapted Desiro's to the local services which is why they were made for in the first place. Also the train to Aachen is now using loco-hauled push-pull formations, the Classic EMU's that were on it previously were sent to Charleroi

    • @MaverickHunterDaniel
      @MaverickHunterDaniel  4 месяца назад

      Ahhhhh, so THAT'S why some of them sounded a tiny bit different! I thought it was just me sitting near the pantograph, but that makes way more sense now, thank you. Also yeah, those Desiros are really unsuitable for certain routes. Something something Dinant and Charleroi IC services...

    Older EMU's are a lot more basic compared to modern ones making them much easier to maintain/resurrect. They can be run on sheer will power, hopes and prayers, and duct tape... Lot of duct tape.

Even if we pretend if the flight is £10, the costs don't include things like food, drinks and other bus/NMBS travel tickets. Not to mention travelling to the airport which could be £30+ if I make the stupdid decision to go via Stansted again.

    Lets start why these are still around well thats Belgium for ya and second some were even build in 1980. They began to refurbish these things around 2000 to even cope the 21st century. Tho the Red units with their very 1950s interior ran till 2013. You could call them the Pacer because its either loved or hated. About the dot matrix displays those were working around the time CityRail existed however CityRail was gone around 2015 and these AM Classique of the 900 series were still in that livery untill 2020 when most of them got their Revision to run 7 more years?? However these are if everything goes to plans all out of service by the end of the year but if not maybe by 2026.

    • @MaverickHunterDaniel
      @MaverickHunterDaniel  4 месяца назад +1

      2026?!!! Goodness me, it's almost like NMBS are doing anything not to replace them, haha. I'll laugh if any last long enough to be equipped with ETCS that's for sure.

      @@MaverickHunterDaniel NMBS did withdrawn loads of these but they still kept some in service lmao. I wouldn’t be even surprised if they will keep them longer
      Because its NMBS. The same with M4 those are still in service on handful Intercity’s and loads of P trains which run from Schaarbeek. Whilst the M4 was also planned to be gone last year.
