Pretty bad how dirty my mower is 😂 probs should have cleaned it before hand. I’ll just blame the cold weather. Hope you learned something new in the video!
Lightweight is good and what did I use it for it’s a lawnmower ruclips.net/user/postUgkxTPN04aT-Qdjr_KS3ql7ng8wnU3wwsCqk also recommend Yes it is lightweight so hence not as robust as our old one. But if you take care it does the job really well.
I have more or less the exact same mower. I would love to see an in depth video on everything you do before starting to cut. Height adjustments of the front roller, which nuts and bolts to loosen and tighten, how to make sure the engine isn't stalling... An in depth catch all video.
Works great! ruclips.net/user/postUgkxprGGPRQoChQaA8u58dt7miEpxQBKiWeJ More difficult with longer grass, though, but I was expecting that. I have a small back yard, it seemed like overkill to buy a lawnmower with an engine. This is easy to carry in and out of the basement through the bulkhead. Very sharp (be careful). At the back of the mower are little wheels, which I use when pulling the mower backwards, so it's easy to readjust direction. I'm including a photo which shows the before and after for my lawn when it was at its longest. For long grass like that you really have to put some muscle into it, and I needed to go into a new section of grass with some momentum, but when the grass is only an inch or two higher than regular cut height it's quite easy. The lawn is still patchy and full of weeds, but at least it's a good height! A step in the right direction.
Love your work mate! Just got my first greens mower and you're the first person I've seen actually show how the HOC bar hooks/rests inside there (which is what I was looking for). I appreciate the videos!
G'day bloke! Hey, I've just been given a Scott Bonnar 17", bit rusted throughout and I'm not sure it works yet, so I thought I'd get on the net and check out if someone has put up some info...you get the idea...good onya mate! Just the job! And I'm with SyNeRgYi...mate - you've gotta do another vid - YOU'RE THE BEST!!
Great video. Really useful and your instructions are nice and clear - thanks. Agree with Synergy (sorry for spelling mate), it would be really good if you could do a how to use the mower properly and also what to do if it keeps stalling..thx again.
Yep, this would be a worth while vid. Also things like adjusting the cutter speed and mower speed. My mower pulls me along so fast its very hard to control and I have no idea how to change it lol.
Hey mate, great vid. I've just bought an old scott bonnar and still learning how to adjust it. If i go too tight it will cut paper, but won't spin freely. If i loosen it off so the blades will 'kiss' the bed knife it won't cut the paper. Are the blades too blunt?
Awesome stuff mate 👍 I'm a newby to reel mowers but I've seen a lot of machinery vids 'n' you Trump the lot .....I've subscribed 'n' will be watching .....nice work kiwi Bob 👍👍👍 😁😁😁😊😊😊
I'd love a reel vs standard mower. So pro and cons. And which works best in different situations. Like perfectly flat reckless grass seems like the only time youd use a reel mower , coming from California
Thanks for the excellent video, that is enhanced by your onscreen character. I'm on the East Coast of Tasmania and the property is shared with over 10 - to - 30 Wallabies. Will a real mower pick up the scats? Or would you suggest a machine or roller I could use, based on your greenkeeper experience? Regards John
Ah nice! I love it man. Awesome mowers. Do you mean back lap it? Or send it away to get ground? I generally don’t backlap unless my bedknife has a Knick or an imperfection in it. I just adjust the reel to the bedknife and if it cuts that’s all it needs!
Hey mate! Thank you. I haven’t unfortunately, can’t get it here in Australia. From what I’ve read and researched though it looks like a great product. I’d be implement into my lawn program if I lived in the states 👍🏽
Yeah we also cant get it in NZ but found basically the same product called Bioboost 6-2-0 + Trace Elements maybe there is also a product in Aussie.. Any way keep up the great lawn videos :)
That was neat mate. There's quite a bit of engineering in those babies. Now that we're getting into the season, I can see exactly how much work I have to go with my lawn. I'll get some pics up on Instagram in a day or two. Well, we managed to keep top 4, Salah got the record & no one else got. That's a good day. On to Kiev! YNWA
Hey mate , just found your vids . Found it really helpful as I just bought a Scotty 45 that’s been sitting in a shed for 5 years . Have you done a video on chain adjustments as when I started mine it seem to bog down on the roller and stop spinning . I’m guessing it’s because the chain is too slack ? Keep up the great work .
Is the rear roller control mower cutting lower on 1 side my masport is 3 months old and cutts deeper on the left hand side its doing my head in.. my old rover 45 never had a problem any advice would be great
If it has a roller in front instead of wheels, you will have a lot less issues. Wheels go up and down with every change in your lawns surface. A roller has a wider contact area, so it doesn’t go up and down as much. It’s best to even out your lawn before using a reel lawn mower
@@LawnTips true. I just brought a 45 and was thinking it was 2 stroke. I only have the 2 little yellow awkward oil filler plugs which i thought was to do with the reel engagment. Am i wrong?
Hey mate, you can get a scott bonnar at George and sbfabandparts sells a bracket for the front roller so you can cut higher! Usually you will have to scout gumtree and marketplace on Facebook. Even go check at your local golf course and see if they have any old ones stored in the shed.
There is neither a right nor a left in a circle. Arrange the handle of your ratcheting socket wrench so that it is upright and _above_ the nut or bolt you intend to act on; through the ratchet or freewheel, swing the handle through 180° so that it is again upright but _below_ the nut or bolt; for each of these two positions, by turns, and relative to your intended action on that nut or bolt, assess the 'meaning' of that sing-song mnemonic mentioned in the video and ask yourself whether or not that mnemonic -- if it's _at all_ useful, _at all_ comprehensive, _at all_ applicable -- isn't based on a different or deeper understanding of machine threads than can possibly be conveyed to a tyro by having them hear, and repeat, without understanding, a mind-effing, four-word bit of bafflegab. For conventional threaded objects, as seen from 'the business end', clockwise turns of that object tightens (or advances) that object relative to the matching (or mating) threaded counterpart. IOW, conventionally, clockwise tightens (or advances). The mnemonic is, functionally, an unintentional *head-phuc.*
F**K me though my family was anal about mowing and I just happen to be caught up in it all. But this seems like a lot of mucking around especially on acreage. Wheres the good conventional zeroturn ride on tips and Honda push mower tips. :D
instead... show how the most cheapest reel mower does a good job on an rough lawn with stubborn grass. That would be more challenging. Who in a third world country can afford this piece of equipment?????
Why is it that all these lawn mower obsessive guys have great lawns but really terrible gardens? He so needs some colour in there to break up the green.
Pretty bad how dirty my mower is 😂 probs should have cleaned it before hand. I’ll just blame the cold weather.
Hope you learned something new in the video!
Got a reel mower just 2 days ago! Very helpful video, thanks!
Awesome! You’ll love it mate. So fun to use

Thanks for the video, but I need to know what nuts need to be adjusted to adjust height of cut on SB 45
Great video. About to pick up a rebuilt SB 590. Thanks for the orientation!

Can you do a vid continued from this actually using one, using the clutch, throttle, driving over concrete, turning etc?
I will in future for sure!
Make it happen ben
Still waiting?

just grabbed one from a council cleanup today.some kind of old Rover thing... in January .... during a heatwave
Excellent video. Have a 1950 odd Scott Boner with the original Indian motor I am about to restore. Not sure how I will go for replacement parts
There's nothing I like better on a video than adjusting the volume to the narrator's voice, then having loud, harsh music blast out of the speakers.
John Nickolsen I sense sarcasm. I’ve tried to fix that issue in my later videos. Thanks for watching and the feedback mate 👌🏽
Awesome vids bro. Got a 14" solid a few months ago, gonna do a resto on it very soon. Love your vids mate you're a natural.
Great vid mate ! Sweet looking rover 45 👌🏻
Thanks mate!!
Hey mate. Great video thanks for sharing. I have the same mower and I’m wanting to
Change the oil in it. Any advice?
Awesome vid man! Super informative, and I loved it!
Thanks mate! Glad you got some tips from it!
ummmmm thats nice guess work ,i would use a feeler gage if i were you..not bothered about way you talk the demo is surpeb.thumbs up.

Hey mate! It need a grind by the sounds of it. You’ll need to send the reel and soleplate away to get ground
Having the same issue here and blades just got sharpened, could it be anything else as my blade doesn’t spin as freely as yours when its not running.
Learn a lot from you ,thanks Mate !
Thanks Ben, great instructions.
No worries man! Thanks
Awesome stuff mate 👍

Hey mate what reel mower would you recommend for a beginner only want to buy one so want my first one to be my last.
Snow in late June just sounds funny. Lol
Great vid, I don't own a reel mower but it was still interesting to watch. The lawn looks great. Will it die off a bit in the cold weather?
Glad it was still interesting! Nah won’t die off. Will loose a bit of colour but that’s it 👍🏽
Great Video cobber, Thanks

cheers for the video very informative
Good instructional video bro!
Thanks girlfriend
Cuz
Just got my first reel mower and massacred the lawn!! Haha. Do you have to sharpen the blades on the reel?
Yes
Thank you for a great video! My reel guard on the front of the mower keeps slipping out when I’m using the mower. Any tips on keeping it secure?
I have the exact same mower, I saved up to get that particular mower before I even laid the lawn. Do you sharpen your bed knife?
Ah nice! I love it man. Awesome mowers.
Do you mean back lap it? Or send it away to get ground?
I generally don’t backlap unless my bedknife has a Knick or an imperfection in it. I just adjust the reel to the bedknife and if it cuts that’s all it needs!
Hey Lawn Tips, Great videos i like your work. Just a quick question on milorganite have you used this product and your thoughts on this? :)

Oh really? Have you got a link to it?
Thanks mate, appreciate you watching!

Keen to see your pic mate! Wish our season wasn’t closing down.
So keen for Kiev!! Going to be exciting man!

Great in depth video on Reel Mowers! Feel like I am way behind and need to catch up with the cool kids and buy one! haha
Thanks bro! You think you’ll get one? They are awesome fun
Lawn Tips if I can get my current mower to mysteriously die, forcing me to buy another one, ***wink wink***, then yes!
Haha 😂 Classic
Thanks a mil. It helped a lot!
Hey mate , just found your vids .

Hey mate, do they sell those slippers for Meng? Just messing bruh,...... your lawn looks reel good homie. Cheers🥃
Hi I was wondering if You know how to tell the hp between motors if the stickers/labels have come off. Would be great help to know Thanks👍
My rover 45 is cutting in on the motor side leaving lines. What can I do?
Is the rear roller control mower cutting lower on 1 side my masport is 3 months old and cutts deeper on the left hand side its doing my head in.. my old rover 45 never had a problem any advice would be great
Hello. I have problem with my drive. One wheel spins faster than the other, how can I adjust them to spin evenly?
Hey mate
Can cylinder mowers be used on uneven lawns?
If it has a roller in front instead of wheels, you will have a lot less issues. Wheels go up and down with every change in your lawns surface. A roller has a wider contact area, so it doesn’t go up and down as much. It’s best to even out your lawn before using a reel lawn mower
Great vid Bro.
That reel is a left-hand spiral with the lead-in on the left side of the machine. That’s quite unusual as most machines have the lead-in on the right.
Is the paper you use just normal copy paper cut into strips ?
What's the maximum height of grass where it makes sense to use a reel mower?
Sweet video. Are these 2 stroke or 4 stroke?
4 stroke man 👌🏽
@@LawnTips true. I just brought a 45 and was thinking it was 2 stroke. I only have the 2 little yellow awkward oil filler plugs which i thought was to do with the reel engagment. Am i wrong?
Gareth Pullin those are to fill up with oil for the engine. No oil needed for the reel
@@LawnTips thanks for the advice and support. Much appreciated
Could have done with a bit more detail with adjusting the rear roller so its true, but all in all great informative vid covering the basics 👍
I thought about doing that but the video was getting a bit long.
Glad you enjoyed it though 👍🏽
what do you think about the bed knife buddy
I’ve never used one, but they look like they would be great to help keep the bedknife sharp and file out any imperfections 👌🏽
who do you send your reel to for sharpening mate????
Could you Mow a green with this mower?
Why, why not?
Why does my mower not cut in the centre of the blade. If I adjust each end the blade gets really tight
My reel engages as soon as my starts, the cable adjustment has not effect, it will adjust the revs but the blade stays engaged. Any suggestions?
Have u pushed the handle on the clutch down
Iv got buffalo that i like cutting at 70mm. Can you get reel mowers to cut that high? And where is the best place to get them 2nd hand?
Hey mate, you can get a scott bonnar at George and sbfabandparts sells a bracket for the front roller so you can cut higher!
Usually you will have to scout gumtree and marketplace on Facebook.
Even go check at your local golf course and see if they have any old ones stored in the shed.
Where did you get it?
So weird hearing "we don't get snow until June"....in the States, its already 95F.
New subscriber here.
Discus BOL thanks!
I thought it would be righty Loosey Lefty tighty in Australia.
Haha 😂 love it

Bro when are they tossing you a free swordman? Haha
Imagine that!
Good to know, thanks! I do not like cold, brrr
Either do I haha. Bring spring back already!
