I actually just made one of these yesterday, used a bit of 25x5 flat bar and I cut a thread in the hole, and then used a nut as a lock to hold my measure firm.
Hi guys good simple steps, I'd just remind the newbies to also make sure the front roller has no slop/ wobble like some of the older units get over the years, as when you put the mower back down on the ground the front roller can bob up and down and mess with your HOC, the easy fix to stop this is just to tighter the nuts very well of the HOC bracket on each side of the mower once you have your HOC set, so this then locks in the HOC...but just remember to loosen them again before trying to twist your HOC knob to change the HOC setting, otherwise you might strip your thread in the HOC knob! My mower came with a simple HOC bar made with Angle bar which is very ridge, so no flex which is more important for low cut lawns sub 10mm I feel. Good stuff guys 👍
The easiest way I have found is having mower flat on concrete and sticking 150mm ruler down through reel against bed knife and taking a reading and adjust height holding ruler there. Heaps quicker with no stuffing around.
Just found your channel a week or so ago. Great work fellas! About to go home this arvo, crack a stubby and make a height of cut bar. Have 3mm flat bar and a thread tap set. Hopefully it's enough thread to hold, otherwise a couple of nuts will do the job.

Awesome mate! There’s heaps of ways to make them
