You must react to Tin Pan Alley with Stevie and Johnny Copeland. Get ready to have your soul ripped out and handed back to you! That is the best blues duo performance EVER imo. Trust me, you won't be disappointed!
I have watched this video a hundred times on my own or with a reaction and laugh every time. When I see someone who is using every bit of their gift in any endeavor I am thrilled. I hope I'm using mine. It is amazing and watching others' reactions is just so much fun! Thanks.
Love what the drummer is doing behind SRV's second verse vocals. And, before that, the rhythmic groove they all put down before he starts the second verse (6:39). Just out-freaking-standing.
Check out "life without you" 09/21/1985, it's another amazing performance! I've listened to SRV a long time and just recently came across this performance..and it's my New favorite!! Enjoy my friend!
Hi from the UK. I stumbled on to SRV by accident a couple of months ago and my 1st number was Texas Flood. Having been a Clapton fan for decades I was absolutely struck dumb by what I saw and heard, I could not believe that this incredible talent passed me by. Listen to Lenny live at El Macombo. Cheers
Also there's a couple of great ones with him and his mentor Albert King, they are doing a session together that would have aired on some television station back then, when Stevie was young Albert King would allow him up on stage to jam with his band in a fully black club. Albert King says in one of the sessions that he never imagined Stevie becoming this great of a blues player, and SRV ultimately became one of the best blues guitarists of all time!
Buddy Guy was an even bigger influence, and one of the most humble/friendly/down-to-Earth guys you could ever meet. BG also played a big part in getting Steve Miller started...
Stevie's version of VooDoo Chile was uptempo from Jimi's performance of it which heightens the intensity. Stevie always said that people shouldn't be afraid to play Hendrixes music -- it needed to still be performed live to keep the music and Jimi's genius alive. BTW, Stevie carried a polaroid picture of Hendrix in his wallet for years. Stevie wore out a pressing of Electric Ladyland playing it over and over to memorize the guitar work.
I seen this video of SRV a year ago for the 1st time, to this day it still makes me feel like I have more soul in my heart than before, SRV music goes straight into my heart,, god love it,
Privileged to see SRV three times back in the day. First time, he wasn't big yet but for the next two he was and seeing him in person was magic. He was a force of nature. Surely you've listened to Pride and Joy by now. Rock on!
My favorite guitarist ever was & will always be SRV !!! Little Wing, Couldn't Stand The Weather, Pride And Joy, Crossfire, Look At Little Sister, Mary Had A Little Lamb, Dirty Pool, Tightrope, & The Sky Is Crying are all 25's on a 10 scale & Give Me Back My Wig & Come On Pt. 3 will always make you smile, but Riviera Paradise is hands down his smoothest song & my personal favorite (I put it on repeat when I sleep, it's almost a religious experience)! They recorded it in one take with only one light on low in the room, & the engineer was worried they were going to run out of tape. When SRV ended the song, the tape ran out & stopped; pure magic !!!
Tommy Shannon and Chris Layton were Double Trouble and together with Stevie were, I think, one of the tightest bands - EVER! Tommy met Stevie when Stevie was a young boy. His bass playing just complimented everything Stevie did.
@G Smith, Tommy Shannon spent a number of years in the 1970's playing bass for another blues legend, the late, great Johnny Winter, also from Texas(Beaumont). Tommy played with Johnny Winter when the mad albino was really at the top of his game.
Enjoyed the reaction video brother . You hit it on the head . I'm a musician who also don't read music . It comes from your soul . It is a feeling . It's the best feeling in the world . It's likened to the way you feel when you hear a good song like this one , and you can almost feel the same emotion that the artist is feeling while performing it ...
Love your enthusiasm. Keep up the great work! This is one of my all time favourite clips of SRV. It's as if he's actually taming a wild guitar. Never fails to give me chills. Pump the volume right up and it's a great way to clean out your speakers.
Stevie was an incredible technician. Second to none. JImi was raw. So inventive on the guitar with his visionary creativity. Stevie's music was blues/rock. Jimi was a blues/rock/psychedelic talent. Listen to Jimi's Electric Ladyland double album set (Crosstown Traffic, Voodoo Chile and Voodoo Child slight return, Burning of the Midnight Lamp, Rainy Day Dream Away, Gypsy Eyes, House Burnin' Down, Come On Part 1, All Along the Watchtower). NO ONE has EVER made music like that. Never will. Stevie and Jimi wouldn't care for comparisons. They are different and unique in their own way. Enjoy them both!
I put myself to sleep to this dvd as a kid every night of my life through high school. This guy saved my life as to what one individual is capable of doing. Set a good example for me and many others. Just sucks to see people reacting this way instead of just buying a guitar and playing along. Anyone can do it...it just takes time that many people aren’t willing to spend.
Dont loose count of the fact that SRV played with 12-gauge, thick strings. Those almost 2-note bends that he does are enough to make your fingernails bleed. Best ever Hendrix cover. He stayed true to the original feel while still infusing his own SRV identity. Brilliant in every sense of the word. Also, shout out to the band. That base player laid out some nice ground for Stevie to do his thing.
Have been binge watching your reaction videos and really enjoying. Love your reaction to SRV. I was blessed to be born in the heartland of the blues. Got to see SRV and Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top) do an impromptu jam at the old blues joint, Hollywood Cafe in Robinsonville, MS (in Delta, south of Memphis) before it became a tourist trap. Unforgettable night.
It was a once in a lifetime experience. The old Hollywood building held less than 50 people, so very intimate. Gibbons opened for Hendrix a few times at the beginning of his career, so your homage to him kinda brought that night back. Many thanks!
All of Jimi's tricks. Knob adjustments (volume, tone, pedals), pickup settings (including the wonky in-between pre-CBS settings), bends, mutes, twisting the neck to get the strat scream, Stevie knew 'em all. Watch them side by side.
Just found this video and had to comment I was at Alpine Valley the night SRV died. Drove from the concert in East Troy to Waukesha. Very foggy night. Heard the next morning at work that Stevie's helicopter had crashed into the ski slope. I went into my office and bawled my eyes out. To this day, i find it hard to see him so alive in these videos. Plus now we've lost Jeff Healy also. And the guitars gently weep.
SRV idolized Hendrix. He was mentored by Hendrix's genius. I think it's wrong to make them out to be competitors - who is better - it's not like that. I think SRV had such tall respect for Hendrix, and Hendrix is so alive in his music that it's like a face to face giving back and forth. I don't see it as adversarial; i see admiration.
Stevie, hands down. My top three picks are Stevie, Jimi and Eddie Van Halen. I can identify Stevie within a few notes. His brother Jimmy is up there as well. Jimi and Jimmy were his biggest influences, after all.
SRV ALL THE WAY! He’s able to remain true to Hendrix’s version, yet put that SRV style into it. The man is a LEGEND! Another talent taken from us too soon. An inspiration to so many!
Great reaction man, you're quickly becoming my favourite reactor. I would love for you to check out The Jeff Healey Band "See the Light". Jeff was a great Canadian guitarist who was blind and played sitting down with the guitar flat on his lap. SRV was a big fan of Jeff, there's a great video of them playing Stevie's "Look at Little Sister", unfortunately cancer took him in 2008. subbed.
He was a year ahead of me in school, same High School. I am pretty sure i saw him in a talent show one day and thought how good these guys were especially the guitar. He has a recording at 15 on google under old SRV if you want to look it up. Who is better? Hendrix wrote the song and it is his song. SRV did it as well as anybody could. Do you like the guy that invented computers better or the guy that made your modern computer? SRV has access to tools that Hendrix never had. So i tend to not compare them just enjoy.
Stevie Ray made this his own, I love the original but his version I think is better. We lost a huge talent when he died. The world was denied so much more brilliance from him. R.I.P
@John Nicodemus You misunderstood him. "Making it your own" doesnt mean what you interpreted it as. Ive been in music all my life and that phrase comes up a lot. It just means confidently putting your own spin on it but preserving the foundational integrity of the song. Neither are better, they are two different flavors of the same food, Jimi came up with the recipe. Stevie just made that his own (version) with that performance 👍
As a Texan Stevie Ray Vaughn is an icon! He showed the world that we are not all horses and guns! Lol, good to see the he has transcends time and and distance!
Jimi first thought of it but Stevie went beyond it, also please consider Jeff Healy and his song confidence man (who was blind) and played his guitar sitting down and laying it flat across his lap watch live performances first very amazing. I have never commented on any channel on RUclips before but your reaction is very honest I've watched that video of Stevie several times and even watch the original performance on Austin city limits on PBS back in the 1980's and my reaction is exactly the same way as yours all these years later good luck with your Channel
I think it's only fair to make some distinctions when comparing Jimi to anybody. 1) Jimi was an incredibly humble and soft spoken man. You can see it in his many interviews. Many interviewers (and fans) at the time were calling him the greatest guitarist of all time. Every time Jimi was told this in interviews (as a compliment), he denied that he was, really didn't like the comparisons, and always gave credit to the many great guitarists out there. 2) SRV was another great guitarist. He was an incredible technician on the guitar as we can see from this video. Jimi's guitar playing wasn't as technical, because the beauty of Jimi's playing was it's rawness and his creativity. Jimi was RAW. 3) SRV's version of Voodoo Chile (slight return) was sped up which played into his incredible technical ability. Jimi's original of Voodoo Chile (slight return) was slower and raw. 5) Older and newer fans don't fall into the "who is a better guitarist" comparison. I think both Jimi and Stevie wouldn't appreciate it. But wouldn't it have been great if we could have seen them perform Voodoo Chile (slight return), on stage, together! Love 'em both.
@@ritamead6318 , Exactly. It's disrespectful to make comparisons. Jimi and Stevie were GREAT musicians with incredible creativity, humility, and sweetness. They wouldn't like the comparisons. They just wanted to play.
@@bbb462cid , EXACTLY! Most people don't really know Jimi's music. Stevie's version here is the "Voodoo Chile (slight return)" . The LIVE studio version is "Voodoo Child" -- incredible! Very different from the "Chile" track.
ptofview Good point or two, However, it is naive to try naming “greatest.” Too many genres, and metrics to consider, etc. Terry Kath (Chicago Transit ‘69 at Fillmore) could certainly hang with anyone, and JH viewed Kath as actually better than he. If one includes other genres, Danny Gatton would humble Hendrix, as would Atkins, Joe Pass, Jerry Reed, Tommy Emmanuel, many others. And Jason Becker...So this worship of Hendrix is foolish and based largely on his showmanship, use of effects, and the era he played.
Just watched Jimi. He was fantastic. Watched Stevie and he was unbelievable. I think Stevie learned a lot from Jimi, and built on it, and made it his own.

Stevie Ray Vaughan is absolutely the G.O.A.T., no doubt about it!!!
One of few who could hold a candle to Jimi, with pride (and joy)!
I would have loved to see him live!
One of the best ever!
Half of the Stevie Ray Vaughn experience is watching him play.
Truer words!
Stevie is self taught he learned by listening he is without a doubt the best EVER
Rock on!
SRV can literally light a match with those fingers 4 real!!!!
SRV Little Wing! Blow your mind! Great Reaction.
I’m so lucky that I got to see him TWICE! I also saw his brother Jimmie in a small venue and got to meet him!
Stevie or Jimi? That's like choosing one of your children.
Lol...
Agreed
@Not My Name - Bullshit! SRV is the GOAT!!!
Jimi and Stevie didn’t die, God just wanted guitar lessons! ^_^
Nice, I like that.
He is just on another level and so humble he was the best
Dude .. you gotta see Tightrope live in Austin Tx same show as this one FREAKIN AMAZING !
I saw Stevie Ray 3 times. Just wow! Unbelievable talent
Jimi with a Texas Twang.
You need to react to life without you by stevie ray vaughan or MTV unplugged acoustic by him
B. B. King: "I've said that playing the blues is like having to be black twice. Stevie Ray Vaughan missed on both counts, but I never noticed."
If jimi wrote voodoo child, stevie ray owns it..
I saw him at his last show at Alpine Valley ..he eas legendary that night. I woke up to the news that his helicopter had crashed..terrible loss.
Both Stevie’s perfection and soul and Jimis creativity both being very influential
Thanks for watching. What a great night that would have been.
It was a once in a lifetime experience. The old Hollywood building held less than 50 people, so very intimate. Gibbons opened for Hendrix a few times at the beginning of his career, so your homage to him kinda brought that night back. Many thanks!
I heard as soon as the show ended that SRV's guitar called the cops to report it had been assaulted.
Lol..
Notice he is playing both lead and rhythm...just like Jimmy Page!
Stevie stayed true to the bones of the song; he just put the SRV touch on it!
You think thats intense, live in concert is even better 👍great reaction😀
Watch it again and look at all of the quick knob adjustments Stevie makes.. he was such a perfectionist!!
There is no question - Stevie Ray Vaughn! I am from Texas and not biased at all! He IS THE GOAT!
SRV was a big fan of Jeff, there's a great video of them playing Stevie's "Look at Little Sister", unfortunately cancer took him in 2008. subbed.
Thanks mate for the sub and watching. I'll definitely check him out.
SRV dropped the pick twice during that and to say he doesn't miss a beat is an understatement. RIP man ... The drummer is fkin amazing as well pfft
Not long after Stevie died I read an article that stated, 'If Jimi is king, then Stevie Ray is the only true heir to the throne'.
As a Texan Stevie Ray Vaughn is an icon! He showed the world that we are not all horses and guns! Lol, good to see the he has transcends time and and distance!
Pride & Joy SVR
stevie vay raughan ? :d
Riviera Paradise by SRV shows yet another side of his genius
David S. he did it on the first take aswell... madness
OMG. THAT IS MY FAVE
This is my favorite by him! I'm 59 and am a true rocker from the 70s.
It seemed like the Soul of Blues died when SRV died. Also, check out Robin Trower: "Day of the Eagle" & "Too Rolling Stone".
saw him in 1988-89 opened for robert plant at maple leaf gardens in toronto canada still can remember it
Jimi first thought of it but Stevie went beyond it, also please consider Jeff Healy and his song confidence man (who was blind) and played his guitar sitting down and laying it flat across his lap watch live performances first very amazing.
SRV was humble and kind and used what he went through in life to help others..
@@ritamead6318 , Exactly. It's disrespectful to make comparisons. Jimi and Stevie were GREAT musicians with incredible creativity, humility, and sweetness. They wouldn't like the comparisons. They just wanted to play.
I agree, but Voodoo Child and Voodoo Chile (slight return) are different tunes.
SRV - Lenny live at mocambo (he went beastmode in that venue apparently)
That's one of my favorites!
Jimi admitted that Terri Kath from Chicago was a better guitarist than himself. I love Jimi for this.
Just watched Jimi. He was fantastic.
Watched Stevie and he was unbelievable.
I think Stevie learned a lot from Jimi, and built on it, and made it his own.
Love that Jimmy wrote this song so Stevie could perfect it
My mother taught herself to play the Piano from a young age(5 years) & to this day she plays but she has never learnt to read music she also started a career singing @ the age of 48 & hasn't looked back. I think you are born with the talent, gift from god?
Thanks for sharing my buddy with a new audience!❤️
