Stevie Ray Vaughan was the greatest of all time. And there were (and are) many great ones. Unfortunately, Stevie died tragically in a helicopter crash on August 27th, 1990.
He was only 35 years old...
There's been a popular saying around the guitar world ever since he passed...
    "God wanted guitar lessons,
    so he took Stevie Ray!"

I was lucky enough to see Stevie Ray Vaughan before he was killed in a helicopter crash August 27th 1990. Eric Clapton had just told him he was the best guitar player in the world and I do believe Clapton was right. I had box seats in the saenger theater in Pensacola Florida it only holds 1800 people and he stood 12 feet from me all night long. One of my top 10 favorite concerts for sure if not number one and I've seen a couple hundred in my day. And I like Hendrix but Stevie Ray Vaughan's version of voodoo child is much better.

What you're seeing in this video is just how he is. He is just that intense, all the time. That's how seriously he took what he did.
This is one of the greatest guitar performances you'll ever see. And it's a day at the office for Stevie Ray Vaughan.

What's crazy is this performance wasn't supposed to be recorded on film, the film crew got there a night early. So the film crew went to the club they were supposed to film a band the next night at. After a song and a half, they were tripping over each other to scramble and get set up to film 🎥. This was before vhs 📼, so it was a long set up. This is one of the best live recordings of S.R.V., and to think it was almost missed!..from Wyoming USA 🇺🇸 🤠

I am so excited to see the younger generation discovering SRV. Keep in mind on your journey that he played with really heavy strings that most players won't touch, 'cuz they can't bend them. Also, watch only live performances as they are the best...No auto-tune or lip sync etc. Stevie would oft-times go to his amps mid song & make adjustments. There is alot to discover about the gifted, & by all accounts, humble man who left us way too soon. Thank you for this & I look forward to you discovering who Eric Clapton said was the Best Player On The Planet. I am 63 & saw him live in 1988! Please continue your journey of one of the most gifted musicians I've ever seen or heard...SRV!

When ever I watch him, it's sad for me. Because of wondering what he would have done. As a musician, I can tell that guitar was almost part of his soal. Doing that with such thick strings, and such a high action. Even had to superglue his finger tips back on. Then went on stage. He was also Albert Kings godson.

Thank you for reacting to Stevie Ray Vaughn! This concert is from Austin City Limits, the longest running music show in American television. Being from Austin I got to see SRV several times back in the day. Also met him backstage at Prince's Purple Rain Tour back in 1985. Stevie was very gracious and appreciative of the recognition. We lost him too soon.

Mercy where do I begin Stevie Ray was a Dallas boy lived in Oak Cliff went to Kimball High School with my cousin ..back in 64 or about..they used to jam together in the garage long before he was famous ... Stevie Ray is like a god in Texas but not just Tx. he is recognized all over the world as one of a handful of the greatest guitarist ever...he died in 1990 just 30 years ago in a helicopter crash ...it took his life and three members of the Eric Clapton Entourage ...Not only was he considered one of the best by the fans but also by people like Eric Clapton Jeff Beck most all other guitarist adore Stevie Ray's ability ...he could make a guitar sing like a woman's passion...Voodoo Woman is a good song but it is definitely not his best... check out some of his other stuff everything he did was amazing ...and even now thirty years after his death people still buy his albums and listen to his music and praise Him ...literally... Down there we called it Texas soul ..but I think Stevie Ray had something that was all his own...and has never really been reproduced by anybody else... couple of my favorites if you want to check them out are... actually the Texas Flood album is probably my very favorite the entire album but I think one of his best songs of Pride and Joy freaking amazing.... you enjoy girl and thanks for the reviews... I love to watch your face when something really great comes along ....it's great to know that you younger kids are appreciating some of the stuff that came out while us us old folks we're young
