Dear Polo, wonderful to see your reaction to this SRV performance and your respectful comments. Some stars burn more brightly in the sky. Stevie Ray left this world six weeks before his 36th birthday in 1990, so we didn’t get to hear his mature development as an artist; a huge loss to us all. He took the music further by literally channeling emotions into sound. Epic, indeed.

Stevie Ray Vaughn was made of Texas Blues. The music absolutely just erupted from him, and it seemed like it was never ending. It felt as though he could keep playing, and playing and playing, and the sounds would just never stop. I was living in Austin, Texas when I discovered his music, and when he died, it hit me like a ton of bricks. And even though Stevie could play incredibly fast and powerful licks, he could also make that guitar cry. I'd recommend listening to Little Wing, Life Without You and Riviera Paradise.

He said he was a mix of the original American masters and then learned new ways from English blues players like Clapton and Page and others and it made him drop any blues purist thing he had and just go with his own thing. I don't think a talent like that can be pinned down to any one place or influence or time. They just happen, sometimes in the most mundane places as well. He regarded himself lucky to get into blues music and then combine it with the English attitude of being firmly based in blues and old rock and roll, but still trying to make it new and fresh, and he did that better than them all, as even Clapton himself has many times said, and he showed the pinnacle of playing. Clapton was in awe of SRV when he was in the zone and couldn't believe what he was seeing. He loved it.

Chris on drums was just on point and I would have thought I was in the jungle wondering where the village was. I think this may be my fave, I'll never tire of his Voodoo magic no matter how many times I see this. Stevie is the Witch Doctor. That song has got to be the greatest, even with so few words, that opening is infamous thanks to the first genius on guitar. Noticing how many comments say Jimi would be proud makes me happy. Love love love seeing SRV reactions. Listening to his music has literally helped shape me into the person I am today, no exaggeration. I can remember as far back as 2 or 3, listening to his genius with my family on trips to go camping. Or making it a family night watching his music videos on VHS. I did a report on him when I was a junior in high school and we played a few songs of his at my dad's funeral, including a song about him by arc angels. People like to debate whether or not his vocals were up to par comparatively. Well ... No, the man was a beast when it came to shredding on his guitar. But I can definitely tell who exactly it is as soon as he opens his mouth.

Jimi Hendrix was the OG, and nobody could do what he did, until SRV came along. Both were taken way too soon. And maybe there was a reason but we will never know. I dont remember when Jimi died, but I will never forget when Stevie died. It was so sad because he had a very deep addiction to cocaine, but the last 6 months or so before he died, he cleaned up and beat it. I wasn't at his last show in Alpine Valley, but I have read that he was in another dimension. Clapton himself said that he stopped playing and watched in awe. And then hours later he was gone. RIP SRV! You are missed!

Love SRV. My mom used to go see him live in Austin way back in the day before he got really big, she said it'd be at some little 'hole in the wall' bar and they'd be right up close to the stage. So jealous lol.

As a kid my Mom always had Stevie jamming on the turntable. Eric Clapton, Traffic, and The Beatles to name a few. Love it all.

Listening to him is amazing, but seeing it live is mind blowing. It's like he's flipping pancakes and doing his taxes at the same time as pounding those solos out 😵 And that bass is bonkers, I might love it as much as I love the solos.

Thank you for doing this video! I’ve been a huge SRV fan for decades but I don’t think I’ve ever seen this specific performance. This was incredible, thanks again! RIP Stevie 🙏🏻

That was the best performance of that song he ever did. Clean, sober, and at the top of his game. That whole episode from Austin City Limits is mind blowing. I agree with you: there's talented then there's gifted. Stevie was gifted. He and the guitar were one. Fabulous musician and equally so as a human being. Gone way too soon. Check out Riviera Paradise. My favorite studio version.

Always adored SRV, then met one of my BFF - went to stay with her in Austin, and in my guest room - look out, to the right, and there's the house he lived in!! Mind BLOWN!! She has told me so much about him, she worked in the industry and knew him well, knows Jimmy etc and a tonne of other music greats. She used to work at Antones, worked there for years so knew everyone.. RIP Stevie. Follow a lad call Scott McKeon who's played/toured with Doyle Bramhall Jr, Tom Jones, Eric Clapton who idolises SRV, Rory Gallagher etc and is well worth seeking out, very good musician

It makes me happy you finally got to this amazing cover but I’m sad you’ve gone so many years without hearing it. SRV is a master blues man and a legend. This is one of my fav performances. 🤟🏼🔥

Nobody has or ever will assault a guitar like SRV. I'm not talking mindless shredding. He truly feels his music on an unparralled level. When you have men like Albert King shake their head in amazement, you know this cat is other worldly. So glad I was alive during his playing career and we have his music forever.
I urge you to react to Gary Moore doing a tribute to Jimi Hendrix playing a smoking rendition of Red House at the Fender Strat 50th concert. They have some HD versions on YT. Gary has left us, but his contributions are well respected. Many think he might be the most underrated axe player ever.

I think you should look up the RUclips video of Stevie Ray in the studio with Albert King in 1983. They knew each other for a long, long time and Albert was one of Stevie's idols when he was learning his craft and you can see Albert was tickled to see just what Stevie Ray was evolving into. Both great guitarists and so much love and respect between them. You will like it.

I have always loved SRV, and he was taken from us way to soon, I've heard people say it was a plane crash on some of these reactions,it actually was a helicopter crash, but music started going down hill that day,he was kind of the last bridge to the sound of that generation that gave us the best music there ever was

You're spot on, man. Artists do express themselves in ways that let you know the music is part of them. I too think this is probably the best version of Voodoo Chile he did.
