Fun fact about this video is he actually broke his tooth after using his teeth to play the guitar. He even starts looking for it on the ground and you can see him mouth to someone off stage “my tooth, gone!” 😂 yet he never stopped performing and kept it 100% real, raw and full of amazement. fun fact. it was the last song of their first set...it was also my 16th birthday and my best friend and I were 2nd row center stage at this very show..extra karma..the guitar he started the song with broke a string and how ironic the guitar he switched to was the one given to him by the person he wrote this song for... @@sickheadjoker1421 at that time he likely was but contrary to popular belief he didn't always use heavy gauge strings and the last several years of his playing he had actually gone down to 9 gauge because even at that point the heavy strings were taking a toll on his hands and Angel Ramirez his guitar tech told him if he didn't start playing a lighter gauge it would get to the point he wouldn't be able to play at all.

Stevie wrote this song about the death of a good friend. This friend actually built a guitar for him (a beautiful white one) which he usually uses to play this tribute song. At 2:00 he motions to have another guitar 🎸 brought out. He used to do that if he didn't like the sound or couldn't tune it to his standard. He also used 13 gauge strings while most guitarist used 9 gauge. He used thicker size strings to accommodate his aggressive style of playing. Check out Look Little Sister and Texas Flood live. Amazes me how many people don't catch the guitar change.

Now I own many of his DVD's and I cherish them. He is just flat out amazing. I urge you to research him on RUclips. You will find that he doesn't just play the the chords, or notes, or whatever the hell they are, he catches strings on the backstroke, he moves strings with those strong fingers. He has very thick strings on his guitar because he can bend them with those super strong fingers. There is much more to his sound than meets the eye, and very few could even begin to play his custom guitars at all, let alone the way he does.

Held in high esteem by Brian May, Slash, Johnny Marr, Joe Bonamassa and many others, Rory was an master guitarist. Try checking out the ultra cool "Calling Card" from the 1977 Hammersmith Odeon performance or the hot "Do You Read Me?" form the 1979 Rock Goes to College performance. Those are both great introductions. Any pretty much anything from the 1974 Irish Tour is pretty spectacular as well.

Jimi Hendrex was his Idol and the reason he started playing guitar. Jimi used to play behind his back, so Stevie wanted to do the same.

I can’t say SRV is the best ever but he’s certainly in my top 10. Too many great ones to say he’s the GOAT, but it’s a great conversation to have. Great reaction Polo. 🔥🎸

Amazing performance, Stevie nearly died from drug and alcohol addiction a year after this concert. You can see how sluggish his performance is compared to how he played after he quit drugs. His concerts post 1986 are even more amazing.

SRV is my favorite guitarist, because he brings so much passion, soul and creativity through his instrument. His touch is incredible! i always play this song on the anniversary of my mom's passing. Such a beautiful song. You should check out his cover of Jimi Hendrix's Little Wing. He turns a 2:20 epic song by Jimi into a 7 minute masterpiece! Truly one of my favorite covers of all time! If you want to check some amazing but less heralded guitarists, check out Jeff Healey and Eric Gales!

Vaughan was in a helicopter with experienced pilot Jeff Brown, and three members of Eric Clapton's touring crew. The helicopter slammed into the side of a ski hill. There was no evidence of mechanical failure, and the helicopter was flying in terrible weather conditions.....Aug. 27, 1990, RIP........Did Stevie Ray Vaughan like Jimi Hendrix?
Recalling the impact of the legendary guitarist, Vaughan said: “I loved Jimi a lot. He was so much more than just a blues guitarist. He could do anything. I was about sixteen when he died.

I had the honor to see SRV in 1984 in New Haven, CT from about 5 feet away and, of the 150 shows I’ve seen, this was my most favorite ever. People overuse the word “legend” but this one is deserved when you mention Stevie. Big ❤ for him still. RIP SRV

I live in the Dallas area and was fortunate as a young kid to see him numerous times. He died when I was in high school. Those shows I saw him at will always be a part of me and I thank my mom for taking me to these shows with her!!

Stevie played early versions of "life without you" as an instrumental and a couple of versions with lyrics, Stevie rewrote it in early 1985 with the lyrics dedicated to Charley Wirz from Charley's guitar shop in Dallas. The guitar named "Charley" was originally called "ol white" and later called "ol pearl". In 2003 Stevies guitar tech Rene Martinez and Charley's guitar shop made 23 replicas and sold them for $2500 each, Santana had one John Mayer and Kenny Wayne Shepherd too, it came with the hula girl decal on the back and had the correct Danelectro lipstick pickups, alder body with a no tremolo bridge one volume and one tone and an ebony fretboard on the maple neck. Ten more in 2005 without the Charleys logo on the headstock. BTW there are better live versions of "L.W.Y. out there. You can see Charley on the cover of "Couldn't stand the weather"
