All the band members play the main parts. Hannes, the Drummer is the guy who gets blown by the granate and climbs out of the trench first. Joakim the singer on the piano. The second out of the trench is Chris Rörland one of the guitarists, the other one Tommy the big guy who brings the guitar. And then there is Pär Sundström, the little long haired guy with the beard. He is the bass player and with Joakim the founder of the band. He and Joakim actually find and research the topic about their songs and mainly write them too. May I suggest another song of them to you. No bullets fly. The video was made with yarn hub. It is amazing just watch it all the way to the end. You should not have stopped this one short either. The end credits were sung by Floor Jansen, who is Hannes Van Dahl's( the drummer) wife and the singer of Nightwish. You missed out on something really beautiful
This Xmas truce was not sanctioned by the powers above, it was spontaneous along this area of the front. It was never allowed to happen again which to me is the significance of the piano being blown up at the end.
A fun thing with Joakim, the main vocalist, is that originally he didn't intend to be the main vocalist for the band. In a Q&A, he talked about how he was going to be the keyboardist for the band and was only going to be singing till the band found another vocalist. The band never found another vocalist.
The band is still looking for a vocalist... -loading-
Tommy?????
Well, yea... to get a understanding of how high standard they have for lead vocalist.... Flour Jansen is singing the outro to the music video and Tommy Johansson, yea he is not even singing, he is playing the guitar.
@@matsv201 Tommys performance (singing) is quite astonishing...
@@BigzampanoXXL yea.. and still he is not allowed to sing in sabaton. They have really really high standarss
Sydney base camp of the Aussie chapter here The tune when the song starts is “carol of the bells” played backwards
The voice behind the ending credits was sung by Floor Jansen the wife of Hannes ( the drummer) the first soldier out of the trenches. The credits also reveal the 200+ people it took to film the video.
Fan made video ? You must be joking ! Look at the credits - not only would it answer your question but you missed two whole minutes of a Sabaton creation. Very disrespecktful
@@richardwest6358 I concur
Sabaton has the ability to reach into your soul and push all the right buttons, making you feel sad while also being incredibly proud of the heroism, sacrifice, and honor or groups and individuals caught in the madness of war. Par and Joakim started writing this song in 2016, but felt it was so important they did not want to record it until it was perfect. I think they succeeded. To me, this story (among others Sabaton have done) shows that true Warriors understand that the 'enemy' are people, just like them, and that they are fighting for their homeland, ideals, or beliefs just as they are. BTW, the cross at the end is a replica of the real cross that marks the location of the Christmas Truce outside Ypres, Belgium. Stay safe and Keep rocking.
Nice!! Thank you for your comment!!
Remember to watch through the credits, too! It's Floor Jansen of Nightwish singing through it.
Married to the drummer of Sabaton.
The singer (Joakim) , the bass player (Pär) and the drummer (Hannes) is on the german side in the video. Pär is the short guy with the beard and Hannes is the guy that climb out of the trench. In the allied trench is the two gitarrists Chris and Tommy, Chris is the second out of the trenches and Tommy is the one that brings the guitar.
That's to cool!
Super reaction to this song. I am a history buff and am not a big metal fan but this band got my attention. The truce and the pick up soccer games where spontaneous by the lower ranks and the officers on both sides were furious and tried to put a stop to it. The higher command made sure it did not happen in the following years. Look forward to more of your reactions. You gentlemen have a blessed day and a Merry Christmas.
Thank you, had a blast listening to this one.
The fact that the senior officers threatened to shoot anyone on their own side who tried the same thing next year says a lot about that war, to be honest.
Time to hear Nightwish! 💕🤘
This song makes me cry every time. If you like this story, there is a French movie called "Joyeaux Noëlle" that is about this particular Christmas. It is an amalgamation of the various truces that took place across the frontlines but tells it from the perspective of the regular soldiers in the trenches from each side. You will need subtitles as they are accurate in having everyone speak their own language (e.g. the French speak French and the Germans speaks German etc.) It highlights so much of the horror of war as well as this particular miracle that was never allowed to take place again. It is my absolute favorite war movie.
Thanks for the movie suggestion. I will have to look out for that one
There is also a Dr. Who Episode which concludes on this exact Moment - where the christmas truce rescues the father of a figure central to the series since the 70s ...

@@christiansaenscheidt9056 Yes! Great episode 👍
Thanks guys for a great post! As a 20 year Vietnam Vet, I can testify that this "happening" was a real thing. In fact, there are two memorials to the "Truce" one at Ypres, Belgium and the other in the UK (Liverpool I think). IMO, no better Christmas song from the modern era than this emotional tribute. The troops called this truce (Not the leadership). Keep the reactions coming. You are fun to watch. Have a safe and happy Holiday Season.
The rest is part of it. Just because the end credits are running doesn't mean it's over.
The endcredits are sung by Floor Jansen leadsinger of Nightwish and wife of Hannes, the drummer of Sabaton. This is the one who first ran into the battlefield.
Something like that always annoys me and I get angry when youtubers use music videos and then don't even see to the end and above all hear them to the end, because that's what you're supposed to be about, about music.
That's fucked up
If you are interested in the details of the songs and what exactly they sing about, Sabaton has its own history channel - Sabaton History.
Check out Sabaton History Channel. This was not an official truce...
That is the Drummer's wife in the outro credits - Floor Jensen of Nightwish.
Thank you. I watched some of it. Very good!
Damn. I love this piece of history and Sabaton for telling these stories. There can be humanity in war. Tonight I cried for both of your expressions. Both my grandfathers fought against Russia in WW2 - they had scars beyond physical and mental. They were just boys when they went there. All my respect to all the soldiers and veterans all over the world - may your hearts heal. 💔❤
Thank you for reviewing this video. I am super glad I found your channel! Merry Christmas. An old USAF Vet.
Thank you so my brother, I hope your here to stay!
This one always makes me cry. It really gets me when Per carves 2021 on the cross, because when I first saw this I had recently learned that my country has sent our soldiers to fight abroad every year since the "War to End All Wars" - truly a war that never ends, as the lyrics say. Also "lest we forget" is from a well-remembered poem created for Victoria's jubilee, which instead of glorifying the British Empire offers a reminder that all empires come to dust in the end. Joakim has said that one of their goals is to help us remember history, because otherwise we will keep repeating the same mistakes over and over.
The truce was initiated by the troops in the trenches against the orders of their commanders. Once the truce was over, those that took part were sent to other parts of the front as command was afraid they would not fight against each other.
I saw a story the other day...some 20 something's started chatting in line at a coffee shop in NY and this event came up. Turns out their grandparents had exchanged photos, and both kids had each other's grandfathers photos in their possession having had them passed down.
Here is where this story is sad for us as Americans. We didn't get involved in WW1 until the Germans sank the Lusitania, which wasn't until 1915. By then the Christmas Truce had already happened, so we didn't learn much about this story. But one thing about Sabaton is that they don't tell the stories about what happens in war with any slant or bias; they tell the story of how it actually happened. And in this case, they are accurately depicting what happened during Christmas 1914. One side started to sing christmas carols that the other side heard. They then responded in like with another carol. Then as you see, they all started to come out, one by one. They played soccer. They exchanged gifts. What made it the hardest is that after that truce happened (which was completely spontaneous), commanders of various armies started to make rules saying that there will be no more truces like this, with punishment being court martial. So this is the only time it really happened, especially as the soldiers were told that they weren't going to be at war for more than a couple of months. We know this took 4 years.
What made this particular truce hard for the soldiers was going back to the battle. They just had a truce and made friends, and a lot of them couldn't bring themselves to killing their friend. Some were pulled off that theater and put onto another, while some were pulled out of the war completely. But this was probably the biggest showing of humanity during any war time between both sides in war.
That cross actually exists, in Belgium, not far from the battlefield that the actual truce took place.
You didn`t join becase of the Lusitania incident^^. You joined in 1917 after we started to indiscriminately sink neutral ships in the embargo zone around the british isles. Two years later.
USA joined the war April 6, 1917
We learned about this short truce in social studies in school. A moment of humanity in the chaos of war. Half the soldiers on both sides were still teenagers. That bit of relief and sanity will have helped many to process the horror I'm sure. Just simple men caught in the web of politics and power struggles.
Another Sabaton song appropriate for Christmas (though not directly) is "No Bullets Fly," about the Stigler-Brown incident of December 20, 1943. Check out the animated video if you haven't already.
Yes! And that one should definitely be watched to the very end!
Make sure it's the animated STORY video. That includes info before & after the music.
Have tissues ready.

You should dive into their history channel! I also recommend you watch the animated story video of their songs ”Night witches” and ”No bullets flyt”
Yes the band members played some of the characters
AWESOME!!! I thought so, that is so cool of them. Thank you for the comment!!!
I like all of Sabaton's songs but this one hit me differently. The Christmas Truce was proof that we didn't need war and the soldiers involved didn't even have the desire to kill each other. It's really heartbreaking to think about.
Yes, he joined Sabaton as keyboardist initially. But they had no singer, so he filled in on vocals. But they never found a vocalist, so he became their vocalist/frontman
"War Is A Racket" - General Smedley Butler -
🕯Merry Christmas everyone. Wesołych Świąt. 🕯
Merry Christmas!!!
The commanders on both sides were outraged. A lot of those involved got carted off to different areas of the frontline, or in the case of the Germans, to a completely different front, to avoid any future "fraternization". The following years, not only were measures taken to avoid such incidents, but too much had happened already in the war as such, too many people had died and too much had been destroyed to really allow for such interaction.
Like you Brothers, I'm a British Army Veteran with over 20 years service to Crown and Country. Every time I listen to this it brings back memories of those who did not come home. Always brings a tear to my eyes.
A friend of mines Grandfather fought in WW1, before he passed age 96 he always got upset whenever he heard a whistle blow as it reminded him of going over the top.
Sabaton needs to be put in schools. Kids will learn more through them then any teacher
I saw them perform this in NYC back in October and it was pure magic.
Nice! No doubt it was awesome.
Always watch the credits
I love both Sabaton and Home Free! For Christmas songs, I would recommend Do You Hear What I Hear or Full of Cheer by Home Free(actually they have a bunch of holiday-style songs); and I can't say that Sabaton does a lot specifically aimed for the holidays, but I love their song Great War, the live version! Their live videos are absolutely excellent. Especially when they are annoying each other during a show they are true entertainers!
Great 👍
Tommy Johansson (the guitarrist)
Has an own youtube channel.
He does alot covers and more..
He has Done alot of Christmas songs
You should check it out 😀
And his own band called Majestica (formerly ReinXeed)
And today he drop his own version of Christmas truce Epic
Don't ever stop a Sabaton video before the end credits have ended. You cut off Floor Jansen's superb voice!!!
Hi Da Ol’ Man. I thought you might want to see these various reactors viewing the Christmas Truce as you did. The song runs in full, including Floor’s contribution, with various comments on top, it is nice, & you get to see what Floor brought to it that was a big deal! LOL, as you are now seeing Floor is a big deal. As far as I am concerned the best singer on the planet, as she can do it all including some growls as a topping! 😉
Good grief, left out the link after all that. ruclips.net/video/-eSxzSK9MKY/видео.html
Even though the song is in Swedish, you should listen to "En livstid i krig" live from Gothenburg. It is one of, if not the coolest live performance ever.
Yeah, and don't forget to click on the subtitles for that one.
I'm going to have to do that one, Allot of request for it. Thank you.
Awesome🔥
As Åsa wrote, have subtitles on. They won't work in the beginning when Joakim is speaking but he is saying let's sing "En livstid i krig". They work during the song and try to follow along the song with the subtitles and the song will have more meaning to you.
They sing about the 30 year war that raged in Europe in the 17th century and lasted 30 years.
Ok, Will do, Thank you.
"Just the credits." You can redeem yourselves in the coming videos.
Loved your reaction and comments… BUT… never ever stop a video until its done !!!
You missed the fantastic outro with guest singer Floor Jansen of Nightwish collaborating with Sabaton and her husband Hannes (drummer of Sabaton )
Good but not perfect guys 🤘 14:43
I know now. I've been beat up over it lol. But I made the night wish video to make up for it and I had to see who they were and soooo glad I did. NIGHTWISH is amazing!
There is a scene from the movie Joyeux Noel which depicts this scene and moment in history excellently. You can look up the scene on YT.
The actual soldiers from the British and French side had to be reassigned to different parts of the Front as a lot of them refused to fight the Germans in the opposite trenches after what happened.
Great video! You’re reactions feel genuine! 🎅
Best Christmas song ever. EPIC!
Festive headgear is under-appreciated! Sorry I'm late...did you know, that Sabaton guitarist Tommy Johansson's has a channel and is posting a new power metal Christmas song every day til the 24th? ! Loving all the metal Christmas classics...so fresh! Tommy also just did a cover of Christmas Truce that he did all the music and vocals on. Wait til you hear this guy sing! Pick any song, Christmas or not...he will impress you!
the truce was indeed a magical moment in history. but the commanders in the back of the line were left out of the agreements. The truce was negotiated by frontline officers and to some sectors of the line, even by ordinary soldiers. The sad fact is that when the generals on both sides found out about the truce they were furious. They ordered artillery barrages and snipers to break the truce, court martialed a lot of those that took part in the negotiations of said truce and did everything in their power to prevent it from happening again. They wouldn't and in their minds couldn't allow the chance of their soldiers seeing the other side as fellow humans, cause then they would hesitate to fight. Scary how we put geopolitics over human lives
Thank you for the comment. Great info!
I don't know if you are aware that Hannes( blonde guy blown over) is married to the Valkyrie Queen of NIGHTWISH Floor Jansen 🤗
Nightwish has a drummer and bassist who both come from a band called Wintersun 🥰
And they make eeeeppiiiiiic music 🤗
I'll send some links if you like 🤗

Here is one for starters 😄🇩🇰
And you skipped the part where Floor Jansen sang!?😳😳
Thank you so much, No, until recently I did not know that, A reaction to NightWish is over due.
Hi i’m from Sweden and please watch En livstid i krig by Sabaton live in Gothenburg, very emotional. Many of our veterans were at that concert
DO NOT SKIP THE CREDITS!!! The song continues!
Sabaton is Sabaton ❤
The voice you hear at the end of the song is floor Jenson she is married to the drummer that's why the credits are so long her name is in them
Both Christmas Truce and No Bullets Fly always bring emotions to me when listening.
Christmas Truce though is a lot heavier of a feeling because the war continued for 4 more years and it’s sad to think that soldiers and officers that participated in the “unofficial” cease fire were ether removed from the front lines and/or court marshaled.
High Command on both sides said no more fraternizing with the enemy under no circumstances after hearing about it.
It’s sad knowing that people were forced to fight in the grinder for basically nothing for four more years when all they wanted was peace and to be home with their families.
All great so far, cant wait to do more on them.
This wasn't organized. It's written in soldier's diaries from the time that on Christmas eve, on sunset, soldiers from both side heard from the enemies trenches in broken French and German "tomorrow you no shoot we no shoot". On Christmas day, at the time when the gunfire normally starts, people were surprised by the silence...
Fun fact as you were surprised the singer plays piano: Joakim the singer originally was the keyboard player of the band, they didn´t have a singer at the start so they other band members pushed him to sing (him not being a singer and he didn´t like it). Thing is everyone liked his singing so he kind of got stuck with being the lead singer now
Y’all need to hear soldier of heaven
yeh all the band be some of the soldiers joakim broden(lead vocals/keyboards) par sundstrom(bass) hannes van dahl(drums he also be married to nightwish's lead singer floor jansen) tommy johansson(lead guitar) chris rorland(rhthym guitar) and it does indeed be carol of the bells joakim be playin as the under melody the outro at the credits be floor jansen
That's so cool!
You should watch the movie Joyeux Noel. Its about the christmas Truce. Great movie, with German, Scottish and French actors and language. Merry X mas :)
Fantastic recommendation; I just watched Joyeux Noel based on your advice. Great movie and at least as emotional and a lot more detailled (especially as to what happened thereafter). Thanks for the advice :)
@@thomashintz8609 Your very welcome, glad you enjoyed it :). Its a beautiful movie, but also heartbreaking.
The Christmas Truce was the only one of its kind. Really, it was the only real victory of that war
Another great video, Liked and subscribed. As for the subject matter, yet again a show of Brothers in Arms, Wars are made by leaders but fought by heroes. I realise that many may disagree but at the end of the day we all have our opinions and mine is that the soldiers that day were all something we could learn from.
the force of the explosions will massacre your hearing if you're lucky and the shrapnel won't hit you.
You can see the French soldiers too. They still wear a blue and red uniform, with a red cap, pretty the same outfit they wore in 1870 !
That's so awesome. Thank you for the comment.
I'm sure others have mentioned this in the comments, but what made this moment so special is that it was an unofficial truce that the soldiers just did on their own. Both sides basically said "screw it, we are not fighting today".
I saw them live with another of my favorite bands called Epica, amazing show for sure, and you guys need to check out Epica as well, I'd recommend Consign to Oblivion or In all Conscience from omega alive
The only video where you need to watch the credits... to listen to Floor.
The crazy thing was that it wasn't planned or organized. The troops just heard the singing from the trenches and joined in. Then after time they just left the trenches and joined together for the day. Sharing gifts from home, wine, singing, and playing soccer.
Thats Floor Jansen singing the outro..
Merry Christmas retired 18B.
I´m sure someone have pointed this out by now but if not, This peace night was NOT an organized event from any military side, this was something that just happened by the soldiers in the trenches that night. According to historical records it started with both sides started to place candles above the trench so it could be seen and each side started to sing christmas themed songs and sang higher then the other side untill 1 point someone desided to get out of the trenches and was later meet by a guy from the other side and eventually more and more ppl started to join them and they both came to an understanding that this war wasent gonna be desided tonight so for 1 night they got to celebrate christmas, exchange gifts with each other and to take care of there dead on the field.
This last part i dont know how true or widespread it was but according to historians the military leadership hade problems getting the fighting to start again as no side wanted to be the 1 that restarted the fighting again to the point that ppl hade to be moved to other parts of the front as they dident wanna fight there new brothers.
I have heard the same thing from others, Thank you so much for the great info!
The guys with red pants are supposed to be French soldiers btw.
Rich and powerful “men” get mad and we, the commoners pay with our lives.
Ww1 is a fine example of it..
For all the fallen, rest in peace.❤
And thank you for your service.
Awesome reaction. Man Sabaton has gone far. I remember i first saw em live like almost 20 years ago. It feels insane how they have managed to just become better every album. BTW even in WW2 did they have small christmas truces. On russian front german frontline units exchanged goods with red army soldiers and had some ceace fires on local fronts. So even such die hard opposites like nationalsocialists and Stalinists could share peace. That was however between soldiers and as we know soldiers even fanatics eventually gets tired of the crawling in bloody guts to make sure the mortars or MG's keep shooting while the commanders sits in a HQ bunker behind the lines. Cheers from Sweden.
Thank you for the comment, YEA! these guys are amazing!!
@@daolman8226 Yeah guys ill definetly be checking out your other reactions :) Merry xmas and Skål from Sweden
The ending credic vocals is Floor Jansen (singer in Nightwish ) who is "with" Hannes, the drummer of Sabaton. And yes the whole band is in the video. And Joakim (lead singer) plays 4 instruments :)
The sad thing is that the brass didn't want a truce. There was so much shuffling around after the truce because of the bond that grew between the soldiers, and from what I heard anyone engaging in a truce again would be met with a court martial. The truce didn't even happen everywhere which is also kind of sad. Check out Sabaton History where they go into the historical detail behind their songs.
The Lost Battalion, Devil Dogs for you and your country 😉 Also NO BULLETS FLY. You need tissues 😏 You're welcome
Thank you. I will check that one out.
Super!!! Can't wait! No bullets fly, definitely official ANIME version(!!!!!). Also it's perfect to watch it before Christmas
A friend of mine was a soldier in the Wehrmacht in WWII. He wasn't a Nazi, in fact he spent time in work camp for resistance to nazis, but in the end even he was drafted.
He was stationed at a new place when suddenly in came several Americans with wine and guitar. Everyone was incredibly surprised, but it turned out that the former German troop had befriended the Americans when they were stationed there. No one wanted to fight the other, so instead they met up to trade pictures of family, play card and teach each other songs.
Sad to say, my friends officer was one who went by the book and the Americans became prisoners of war. My friend survived the war, spent two year in US concentration camp and then became a pacifist, dedicating his free time to the peace movement where I met him.
He's dead now. Still miss him.
What a heartfelt, respectful reaction !
Sad though you cut of Floor her part, at the end.
Showing the whole video would have made it totally epic.
Credits, yes, but they give all the production info and they name all the band members. Their guitarist, Tommy Johannsen, does a lot of solo work. Enjoy that rabbit hole, also.
True story❣
.......And never-ever stop a Sabaton song to it´s finish :-) or you get Sabaton fan curse on your arse ;-D Stay safe and merry x-mas!!
I don't think the truce was so organized, so the first steps must have been nerve wrecking.
Yes, No doubt! Thank you.
no it wasn't , and it didn't happen everywhere just in certain areas and most were set up by local units and their officers and even then it had alot to do with taking care of the dead on both sides as bodies had been laying in no man's land for months
Merry Christmas guys
The German's started singing first then other side started singing too. After the truce each side would not kill the other and had to be replaced. The Christmas Truce took place in other locations after this one it was forbidden to do so.
Oh WOW! Thank you for that info, this is such an amazing story!
Yes most of the videos they make they're actually in them. One of the reason they're my favorite band
Never stop sabaton 😢
The long haired blond that took a blow at first is the drummer Hannes Dahl also Floor Jansens husband 😎❤️🇧🇻
Yes, all members were the main characters
Joakim, the singer, playing piano(and singing, duh)
Hannes, the drummer, was the wounded and first out of german trench
Chris, guitarist, was the first out of entente trench(playing a british soldier)
Tommy, the other guitarist, was the big french guy with playing the solo
Pär, the bassist, was the german yelling out for Hannes when he got out of thench
And u missed the part with all the credits and Floor doing her thing together with the end music 🤣🇧🇻
right at the very end, you hear a female vocal during the credits. thats the drummers girlfriend floor janson from nighwish.
It happened and the cross still standing in Belgium … ❤
the fact this happened is amazing, 24.12.1914
"YOU F**KED THE DUCK"....

@@daolman8226 Try watching the entire video....UGH
Yeah that's based on Carol of The Bells. And yeah the lead singer was originally hired for keyboards, then drafted into vocals. This is an incredible, important song. The fact that Sabaton members are playing opposing soldiers pretty much sums up how they deal with military history without picking sides. And yeah it did in fact happen in several places at Christmas 1914, spontaneously. Wasn't organized at all, just a happy accident. Their commanding officers (the leadership in Europe during WW1 wasn't the greatest) were panicked by this and threatened to court marshal anyone who did it again. Anyways great song, and great reaction!
Excelente reação, uma pena que perderam uma das melhores partes que são os créditos cantados pela FLOOR JANSEN, que é casada com o baterista do SABATON
you guys should react to the sabaton history channel it talks about the actual history of the event of what ever song tour lisening to like devil dogs and this song
No buĺlets fly...animated version...nice story
First: Montani Semper Liberi. I appreciate the WVARNG shirt. Where you ever at the armory in Morgantown?
Second: Sabaton has a way of drawing you in and bringing history to life. May we truly learn from the past.
Actually after this little truce, a lot of the soldiers morale was fucked. They refused to shoot the germans and the germans refused to shoot at the allies. Apparently it's a lot harder to kill someone after getting to know them.
Here's to our slavic cousins, and for the hope that they can reach peace ASAP.
And I mean this for both sides.
The fewer deaths, the less the suffering, the lesser the pain, the better.
If you want to watch the story about this event (with a few film embellishments) I recommend watching Joyeux Noel a fantastic film and my favourite xmas film of all time.
14:20 Done goofed, missed Floor
This is a true story as are all songs by Sabaton . The cross is still there in a field in Ypres
