  • Transparency Moment -- I've been trying to lose this belly for two years and turns out I have uterine fibroid tumors, two of which are the size of a grapefruit and a cantaloupe melon but mind you I'm 128lbs!!! 🤯
Any way, I decided to share this journey because I feel like years ago, had I been more aware, I would've known this and been able to have a less invasive procedure and right after I found out, I saw someone post asking for weightloss tips so I inboxed her and told her my story, turns out she had a massive ovarian cyst.

UPDATE: surgery went well. Recovery has been hell but I’m finally discharged from the hospital days later. Pt 2 is coming but be mindful of the things you say in the comments. The bottom line is, these doctors and researchers do not know the absolute cause of fibroids but they do know that things such as diet, activity, hormone levels, genetics, etc. play *a factor* in growth-a lot of people are stating these contributing factors and their own personal opinions/experience as the one end-all-be-all thing as if it is the absolute cause and that’s not true- they are simply factors. A factor is something the contributes to or helps produce a result or outcome but there has been no definitive cause outlined for fibroids.
All overweight people do not have fibroids. All people with estrogen dominance do not have fibroids. There are vegans who in fact developed fibroids.
It’s reckless and irresponsible to push things as if they’re facts when there is no conclusive data available and there are women who are desperately combing thru theses comments looking for help.
Imagine a woman reading a comment saying estrogen dominance is the root cause, never having her hormones tested but trying to lower her estrogen levels while they could be balanced-she could put her health in critical danger because of comments like this.
Share your personal experience and what helped you but avoid generalizing language. If a specific diet helped you, awesome, share your strategy! If monitoring your estrogen and progesterone levels helped you, that’s great, teach us your ways! But everyone is not the same. Be mindful and respectful.

+Cierra Braxton thank you for the reminder! It’s now pinned. I’m all for sharing what works/worked and what didn’t work for YOU but the language needs to be clear. There’s a difference between “balancing my estrogen and progesterone helped me shrink and this is how I balanced it.. ” vs “yall need to stop eating estrogen because that’s how fibroids grow” or “there’s a 30% chance they may return after surgery and mine returned” vs “they always come back and mind did”

I had a myomectomy years ago..those fibroids were hell, so much pain and I looked 9 months pregnant,..the relief after my surgery, everything was great until they started to grow back...I was horrified went into panic mode....started researching and saw some people changed their diet had success, so I changed my diet, cut out all sugar, no cakes, cookies, no carbs, and ate lots of fiber. Added vitamin D...my body started to feel different...I had a transvaginal ultrasound in 2 month's and my fibroids were gone!!!...Ladies its our diets...but not meat..its the carbs and sugar.....but you have to include a lot of fiber,...meaning vegetables, we can heal our bodies ....sugar and carbs makes fibroids grow...The diet I did was extremely hard....but worth it..hope this helps someone..🙏🏽🙏🏽.

You’re correct, they will in fact grow back after surgery. I had surgery bad well and mine are back. However I don’t oppose surgery if you change your eating habits. Meaning, you can’t get surgery and continue the lifestyle you had prior to the surgery. A few important pieces are, yes, it’s the diet. Pretty much any illness is diet related and you don’t need data for that nor would it be smart for them to provide data as that’ll put the pharmaceutical companies out of business. The other piece is changing your lifestyle. Meaning, not going on a diet just to get rid of the fibroids, but changing your lifestyle permanently. This is what removes fibroids.

Hello! I am THAT vegan who developed fibroids! In fact, when I was scanned, I literally had EVERY type of fibroid in and on my uterus! For reference, I'm 49. I became a vegan at the age of 8. My doctor suggested a hysterectomy. I refused and got a second opinion. I asked my doctor would he get rid of his penis if he had some lumps on it or would he have the lumps removed! POINT MADE! I found a surgeon who did a robotic myomectomy. The procedure went well initially, but I developed internal bleeding. They ended up having to go right back in to stop the bleeding and this time they had to do it laparoscopically. It was good though. The surgeon found a few more fibroids that he missed! I lost a lot of blood and ended up having to have a blood transfusion! Now, let me tell you something.
I WOULD DO THAT SURGERY OVER AGAIN IN A HEART BEAT, EVEN THOUGH MY RECOVERY, DUE TO ONE NURSE I ENCOUNTERED, WAS AWFUL!
For the first time in my LIFE, I had periods without awful pains! My periods were so bad I would have to call into work EVERY SINGLE MONTH! When I was a teenager, my mother used to take off from work to take care of me due to my period! I was diagnosed with fibroids at 16, but I didn't know what that meant. It was not suggested that I have them removed, so I didn't.
Anyway, I had that surgery done about 9 years ago. Sadly, some of the fibroids have come back, BUT the pain is NOTHING compared to what I experienced and the effects have not been troublesome at all!
DO NOT LET DOCTOR'S TELL YOU THAT YOU MUST HAVE A HYSTERECTOMY! GET A MYOMECTOMY AND KEEP YOUR LADY PARTS! Getting a hysterectomy is going to throw you into menopause and all that comes with that.
Thank you for sharing your story in this video.

I hope you are recovering well Daye! I am a uterine fibroid sister. Mine were first detected as "pebbles" when I was roughly 24 or so and I was told not to worry because they seemed stable and were not causing any issues. Y the time in was in my 30s early 30s to be exact, my periods had become heavier and gradually the anemia began. By the time I was 32 I had my first myomectomy. I was told this should help substantially and though it was a rough recovery, things were better temporarily. By the time I was 34 or so the fibroids had returned, the anemia was back as I'd never fully recovered from the anemia and I ended up having a UFE (Uterine fibroid embolization) with a radiologist. That helped substantially and was a mostly non-invasive procedure. Prior to this I'd been told that it was highly unlikely that I have children due to this reoccurring issue and I'd come to terms with it and was I the process of becoming an adoptive parent. After the UFE which at the time I was told would likely cement that I would not carry children, within 3 months I was pregnant with my one and only child, my son. God Is!
I had a high risk pregnancy mostly because I'd had these two procedures on my uterus AND my embryo would have to share my uterus with now more fibroids. I delivered my boy 9 months later via c-section and he was fine. That was in 2012. After his arrival and some months later, the heavy periods returned and the anemia continued and I was back on the road to find a solution. I had a second UFE in early 2019 and honestly, it was unsuccessful. It is now 2021 and this year at this time I am planning for a hysterectomy. I've had my child and am now 45 years old and the issues around having these fibroids is simply not worth the cost. I am at peace with it.
Yes, there was a family history of fibroids, my mom for sure but by the time any of this occurred with me she was deceased. I've had no other family members speak on this so I'm not sure if it is prevalent.
I pray for you a complete healing and restoration, that you are able to have the child you desire in your future, and that life is beautiful for you.
    Blessings

That's crazy! I have had practically a similar experience to yours but I had my surgery for a myomectomy in 2017 because I took too long to get it treated. I was diagnosed in 2013 but I wasn't able to afford the procedure. The only other surgery that I have ever had in my entire life was my cesarean back in 2020 with my 1st and only son. They wouldn't let me go into labor my 40 weeks because I was 39 weeks when they gave me the scheduled cesarean. At least I know what contractions feel like but I don't know what a natural birth feels like. I still ovulate and have menstrual cycles. A lot of those midwives and other OBGYN say things to scare you because they figure you don't know about your body and they just tell you anything. Sometimes you just have to get a 2nd, 3rd or even 4th opinion.
I was told I had some scarring on my uterine walls or something like that by this midwife but I wasn't under her care. I had an OBGYN who still comes highly recommended and I will still go back to him to this day. Him and my delivering doctor were very on point! I also was a high-risk pregnancy when I delivered my son and I'm also 45 years old. I still desire to have some more children but my son's father passed away last year.
I don't know how that's going to work without me being involved with a man. But at the same time, I don't want to be just having babies with just random men! I even considered artificial insemination but I don't know how God would feel about that. I've done enough already 🤷🏾‍♀️.

@MsKokomarie. God is indeed Good!!! I wish you the best and since this is your journey do what is best for you. BUT your journey very similar to mine. Doctors are not gonna be real with you. Doctors are not gonna love you like you love yourself. They don't care if you can have children or not. I did my own research period. Doctors couldn't get 6 feet around me with that nonsense. I am 54 now, found out about my fibroids at 31 when I was pregnant. I have kids, healthy kids, healthy pregnancies. I have 7 large fibroids. That being said I said no to surgery, no to fibroid removal, no to blood transfusions, no to IUD contraceptive to stop the bleeding of fibroids and supper heavy periods. I said yes to God, yes to my own research. After doctors told me several things that could be done regarding my fibroids, I started taking vitamin k2, vitamin d3, an iron pill and organic black strap molasses for 3 months straight. I couldn't find my period after that and haven't seen my period in over a year. Since I'm 54 now my cycle was going to stop anyway, so no problems with periods, fibroids etc. But my doctors since age 32 been wanting to do surgery etc. I kept telling them No, that I will deal with it and God has.

All that said, I feel much better and I'm happy I got it done.

Stay on top of that area always. I am glad you are getting this taken care of. I had a 20cm ovarian cyst on the right one, and didn’t know it, until I had some extreme pain and couldn’t stop vomiting. The cyst was the size of a baby, shaped like a sausage, laying across my intestines and my kidney. I was so sick still after they told me I needed to see my gynecologist. They gave me some percs and sent me home. This was Thursday, Friday saw a gynecologist. They knew this thing was literally killing me. I had to be rolled into the appointment. They made an appointment for the following Wednesday. That weekend I was so weak, sick, and started feeling like this could take me out. I went through 20 pills by Monday. Nothing stopped that pain. I met my new primary care that Monday, a black man. I couldn’t give him a urine sample because now almost a week later I am not eating nor keeping water down. He called the hospital so I could be admitted. Once admitted they said my kidneys were not operating they way they should have been. My doctor asked them to see if I could get into emergency surgery. That hospital sent me to another one because they needed more assistance with my surgery. They had to drain the cyst, then still do the big incision to remove the cyst, had me open like a science experiment smh. Then had to unblock my intestines, said they were bruised. The cyst was pushing up in my stomach area. Never in my life did I feel that pain before. I have had gallbladder attacks and needed that removed years ago. That cyst almost took me out, and weighed about 35lbs. They drained 5 liters of fluid. I was getting bigger by the day, and because it had twisted that was why I was hurting so bad. I looked like I was 9 months pregnant the day of my surgery. I lost my right ovary as well. They had to do the incision from above my belly button all the way down just to get that thing out of there. And after all of that, I have 1 fibroid inside of my uterus, and now that I am 39 I am finally getting this checked out since hubby and I are trying to have kids. But that cyst……I hope I never ever ever have a cyst like this again. I wish you the best!

I live in Boston, & indeed I have fibroids. Submucosal ones there are different types and there can be multiple inside of you. Right now I have them & they have me looking 4 months pregnant. I had them removed before here in Boston at my home hospital. The first time they went in I woke up 4hrs later and it was not successful they punctured something so the fluid that is injected to see inside the uterus would not hold.
I went back years later they went in through my abdomen/stomach it was a success.
But they are now back and bigger than ever!
Yes I love salt & sugar, carbs but I also cook a lot and eat healthy at times. I understand diet is important though just gotta be able to sustain a healthy one!
I have two children 22&23 yrs old.
I have not been able to conceive since they were born with the exception of the last surgery in 2017
      I became pregnant in 2018.
I miscarried at 3 months no blood etc went to ultrasound check up they said fetus was no good

Thank you so much for sharing your story and I'm praying for a speedy recovery 🙏🏾 I found out a few months ago I have 3 fibroids, and one of them is a size of a baby's head. And for me for me my PCP and Surgeon are suggesting a total hysterectomy because of my age - 46 and already had my kids,, I can't take the medications that could possibly help shrink due to high blood pressure, and I am in pain all the time with pressure. . It's so nerve-racking because I don't know what I would do having to be out four-to-six weeks to heal with not much support. Sigh... anyway you're right black families don't talk about it at all and when I started asking my family I found out that it ran in my family..and granma had a hysterectomy. Anyway I really do appreciate you talking with us about your experience. I need to go ahead and get my surgery scheduled too.

I have uterine fibroids and learned about them in my 30's after my 3rd child was born. My periods became very heavy (soaking overnight pads every two hours) and I eventually became severely anemic. I take iron and other supplements to keep my hemoglobin levels up and I eat lots of green vegetables, no red meat, and no dairy. Now at close to 50, periods are stabilizing.

I understand how you might be feeling, and I pray that your surgery goes well and nothing unforeseen is found during it. These types of things do need to be talked about in the black community, and we as black women need to stop ignoring our symptoms. My mom was adamant about feminine care for herself and her daughters. My first fibroid was found when I was 15 and had to be removed when I was 16. It grew from grape to grapefruit size in nine months. They were concerned that it might be cancerous. No one else in my family had them but that same year they found out I have SLE and it seems that having the autoimmune disease can lead to many other issues. Sometimes I feel as though I spend more time in doctor's offices, clinics, and hospitals than I do at home. I am however grateful for having excellent care from my medical teams.

  • @CorinthiaLA

Thank you so much for sharing this. We absolutely need to talk about these things more. Something you said caught my ear about how this affects us at a disproportionate rate and while medical discrimination or outright racism is a factor, a large part of it is because we, especially us as Black women, are so quick to dismiss and rationalize our symptoms. In your video, you mentioned the warning signs, but thought those signs were related to something else. I'm a nurse and I'm guilty of the same thing. My mom had uterine fibroids and ultimately had to have a hysterectomy and 1 of her ovaries removed because the fibroid (the size of a large grapefruit) fused with the wall of her uterus and her left ovary. She was okay with the decision because she already had children and was in her 50s so she knew she wasn't going to have more children. I pray that your surgery was successful without extreme scarring nor the need for a hysterectomy. Because of my mom, I try to pay very close attention to anything that's related to women's health. Having a gynecologist or OB-GYN in addition to your primary care physician is the best way for that, so that was a great piece of advice. Lastly, I think we as Black women, or people really, tend to want to keep our business OUR business, including keeping things from our kids and in the end it really does a disservice to everyone because some things that may be hereditary aren't discussed until it's too late and that also contributes to things affecting us disproportionately. Thank you once again for sharing this and I pray for a very easy and speedy recovery.

Fibroid are so common now. Before a lot of doctors would say it affects mainly black women. As an OR nurse, there’s so many cases of myomectomies. An 8lb fibroid was removed three weeks ago. I have had three children and I am 41 so they did tell me most likely, it will have to be a hysterectomy, although I would like to keep my uterus…because it’s mine lol. I agree that people do not talk about this and that there needs to be more education. I’ve been losing weight, but my stomach was not shrinking. I figured my third baby just did me in four years ago. It’s so crazy to me that it’s so common, but not spoken about. I haven’t made it to the part of your recovery but I hope it went well. I just wanted to thank you for sharing. I got diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis last year so I figured my bloated stomach was because of that. My stomach looks just like yours! I finally went to the ER 5/25/24 because I had extreme back pain, Very bad fatigue, nausea, constantly feeling like I had to pee… basically pregnancy symptoms but I’ve not been active (no chance I was pregnant) the CT scan at the ER revealed that My uterus was 20 times larger than it should be. It is scary and I love to see that I’m not alone. Thank you.❤️

I'm glad I stumble across your channel. I'm schedule to have laparoscopic myomectomy soon. I wasn't aware at first everything that it entails with fibroids. I have 4 fibroids right now and 1 being @ 7 the biggest. It is more prevalent in AA women which I would love to understand why? I 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾 for a speedy recovery and everything goes well. I have 3 subserosal fibroids, the largest one is about 5.5 cm in diameter. My mom has several of them too. I have heavy periods too and they've been heavy since I started getting periods at age 11. I'm not sure if they've grown since I found out I had them but watching this video is convincing me to get another ultrasound done to make sure everything is ok. Thanks for sharing your story and praying for a successful surgery and a speedy recovery!

I had fibroids about 20 years ago and my ovaries were fine, my uterus was covered with fibroids. My doctor did laser surgery and only removed my uterus. My Mom and sisters also had fibroids and surgery, I'm the only one who got to keep my ovaries. Thank God I had 2 son's and I didn't want any more children. I love not having a cycle and I have not had any problems. So thankful to God that you're doing well 🙏🏾

So I’ve had 2 Myomectomies to remove Intrauterine fibroids, because as I’m sure you know now, they can come back. I’m 5’3” and at that the time of my surgeries I weighed between 125 and 130, so definitely not overweight! For me and some of my girlfriends, we noticed that we developed fibroids after having an IUD.
Take it easy during recovery and keep a positive mindset! I hope all went well for you, and I appreciate you sharing your story. Thank you for addressing those who say their narrative or ideals are the standard. We were not made from a Cookie cutter, so each person’s fibroid experience is different!

I had fibroids removed January 2021. I had five in total, four were small but one was around the size of a watermelon. Fibroids are much more common than people realize and we need to be educated more about them so thanks for sharing your story!

Hello Daye, prayers for a healthy recovery and thank you for sharing your journey.
I watched video in shock that someone else is enduring my exact- to some degree experience.
At 25, I had a lump just below my navel my primary said it was a fat deposit. I was a size 4 and I'm tall so I can see it lying down. The next year I had stabbing pain ended up in ER. Triage nurse told me it was a fibroid. Same type of fibroid, 3 day cycle bc it was on the outside of my uterus. I left it alone and monitored it for years. Fast forward 45 and siz 6 looked 8 months pregnant. I had alot going on. I waited close to menopause age to have removed. No pain. I couldn't pig out and sleeping was uncomfortable. Great Dr. Had laproscopic partial hysterectomy. One day surgery no pain no scars. I have a soft belly but flat. Found out my maternal grand mother and aunt had hysterectomy. Back in the day they didn't know the term fibroid. It was never discussed in our family.
I will say my grand mother nor aunt never had a relaxers. (Press and curl) days.
I truly believe it's a lack of vita.in D. It's very common in the Black community as a whole, Hispanics and I have Asian coworkers dealing with fibroid.
My advise start seeing gyno at 18, know or ask if any has had hysterectomy in the family. Lack of Vitamin D cause more health issues than you can imagine. Starting taking vitamins D and folic acid.
Do your homework, it's not just fibroids, endometriosis is no joke and it's just as common and extremely painful.
Thank you again for sharing your story. All the best...

I just had that laparoscopy one two weeks ago because I’m trying to have a baby. I will say you will need to have someone with you at least for the first week. And lots of pillows and liquid type food. Good luck sis! Not gonna lie I’m pretty pissed at my old gynos for not catching it earlier because my ovaries are pretty scarred from the fibroids. I’ve asked my drs directly before if I possibly had fibroids because my periods are super heavy and painful and they were like no just take Tylenol (basically dismissing me). Anyway girl I’m glad they figured it out, good luck!!

I just want to emphasize sticking with liquids for the first week or so. Your bowels get real lazy after surgery, the pain meds make you constipated and the pressure will make you want to do drastic things. I honestly only cried from trying to go to the bathroom and not being able to. That was probably the worst part of the recovery process. That and the gas because they fill you with air during surgery so also make sure you get gas-x. Also if you have allergies make sure you take your meds because sneezing will make you feel like you died the first week or two. Not trying to be negative but those are things I wish someone had told me. You don’t realize how many things you use your stomach muscles for until you can’t use them anymore lol.

Omg! This video just popped up in my feed 15 minutes ago. I am going tomorrow to check because I am having pain in my pelvis and I told my husband that it's fibroids. I had a partial hysterectomy in 2016 and got rid of my menstrual because it was always heavy and also had fibroids. Praying everything goes well for me! 🙏🏾

Had a myomectomy in 2015 age 45 no children. I asked my surgeon said I had 18 fibroids on reach 16. I told him I wanted to keep my uterus. I wish I had of had children earlier in my life . I really recovered very swiftly. Glad you are doing well.

Glad you’re talking about this. The same thing happened to me at my last pelvic physical exam over the summer. Mine aren’t as big, but the same thing- she felt it in my uterus and turns out I have fibroids. I’ve been using acupuncture, and herbal teas and remedies to manage the extra pain and blood. It’s made a big difference. If they don’t shrink by the next exam then I’ll probably opt for the myomectamy.

I recently had a hysterectomy. My fibroid was huge. I have already had my children and I refuse to suffer any more pain. I had it while pregnant and the pain was unimaginable. My doctor refused to take it out and it got bigger over three years. People don't understand the pain and the bleeding every month. You are so lucky to be blessed to get them out of you. Now I'm on my fourth week of recovery and it's been hard. My doctor tested my uterus and told me that i had endometriosis. People would make comments that i ate to much and that is why my stomach was big. They just didnt know i was suffering. My craving were soda and sweets. You touched me when you said you dont have those cravings and i don't either. Thanks for your video.

Thank you, thank you for sharing!! This needs to be normal conversation! I’m dealing with a similar journey for the past 2 years. Fortunately, I have no pain or issues with my monthly flow but the tumors have grown slightly and my OBGYN is already talking about options to have a myomectomy 😩 I’m not looking forward to any surgery, doc said no to UFE since I want to have kids and recently I found out about HIFU, which uses high frequency ultrasound energy that kills the fibroid cell tissue and the tumor reduces in size significantly within a year and non-invasive! Still doing my research. My MRI is scheduled next week so fingers crossed no major changes!! Praying for a speedy recovery! 🙏🏾💕

@@ninaowusuh1418 hey! I recently had the laparoscopic surgery earlier this year and everything went well! 🙌🏾 I was anxious but everything worked in my favor! No infections, quick recovery, stomach flattened a bit and lost a few pounds after the procedure. The HIFU procedure works on a case by case basis and I didn’t qualify. The only known side affect is that it can impact the surrounding organs where they can melt into itself or others and that will create a new medical issue! I would say continue to do your research, talk to your doctor and make the best choice for you! I pray all goes well in whatever you decide! 💕
