UPDATE: surgery went well. Recovery has been hell but I’m finally discharged from the hospital days later. Pt 2 is coming but be mindful of the things you say in the comments. The bottom line is, these doctors and researchers do not know the absolute cause of fibroids but they do know that things such as diet, activity, hormone levels, genetics, etc. play *a factor* in growth-a lot of people are stating these contributing factors and their own personal opinions/experience as the one end-all-be-all thing as if it is the absolute cause and that’s not true- they are simply factors. A factor is something the contributes to or helps produce a result or outcome but there has been no definitive cause outlined for fibroids. All overweight people do not have fibroids. All people with estrogen dominance do not have fibroids. There are vegans who in fact developed fibroids. It’s reckless and irresponsible to push things as if they’re facts when there is no conclusive data available and there are women who are desperately combing thru theses comments looking for help. Imagine a woman reading a comment saying estrogen dominance is the root cause, never having her hormones tested but trying to lower her estrogen levels while they could be balanced-she could put her health in critical danger because of comments like this. Share your personal experience and what helped you but avoid generalizing language. If a specific diet helped you, awesome, share your strategy! If monitoring your estrogen and progesterone levels helped you, that’s great, teach us your ways! But everyone is not the same. Be mindful and respectful.
+Cierra Braxton thank you for the reminder! It’s now pinned. I’m all for sharing what works/worked and what didn’t work for YOU but the language needs to be clear. There’s a difference between “balancing my estrogen and progesterone helped me shrink and this is how I balanced it.. ” vs “yall need to stop eating estrogen because that’s how fibroids grow” or “there’s a 30% chance they may return after surgery and mine returned” vs “they always come back and mind did”
I had a myomectomy years ago..those fibroids were hell, so much pain and I looked 9 months pregnant,..the relief after my surgery, everything was great until they started to grow back...I was horrified went into panic mode....started researching and saw some people changed their diet had success, so I changed my diet, cut out all sugar, no cakes, cookies, no carbs, and ate lots of fiber. Added vitamin D...my body started to feel different...I had a transvaginal ultrasound in 2 month's and my fibroids were gone!!!...Ladies its our diets...but not meat..its the carbs and sugar.....but you have to include a lot of fiber,...meaning vegetables, we can heal our bodies ....sugar and carbs makes fibroids grow...The diet I did was extremely hard....but worth it..hope this helps someone..🙏🏽🙏🏽.
You’re correct, they will in fact grow back after surgery. I had surgery bad well and mine are back. However I don’t oppose surgery if you change your eating habits. Meaning, you can’t get surgery and continue the lifestyle you had prior to the surgery. A few important pieces are, yes, it’s the diet. Pretty much any illness is diet related and you don’t need data for that nor would it be smart for them to provide data as that’ll put the pharmaceutical companies out of business. The other piece is changing your lifestyle. Meaning, not going on a diet just to get rid of the fibroids, but changing your lifestyle permanently. This is what removes fibroids.
Good morning #DayeLaCrew! My surgery is this afternoon, please wish me/my surgeon well! Sorry I’ve been MIA but I had to get myself together to be down for 4-6 weeks. I miss yall and miss posting! Hopefully I’ll be well enough to give an update next week. I’ll be in the hospital for 2-3 days before I’m discharged and I’m just hoping for the best! If you’ve had this procedure, please drop recovery tips and what to expect!
I am 41 and I am just finding out my entire family has it so frustrating. Imagine how things would have been if we as woman discuss this more. 😒 Keep up the good work.
Man! I mentioned it at a family gathering when I got diagnosed 2 yrs ago. My Aunt responded with pictures of hers after her surgery. I was baffled because, how do we not discuss this amongst us women as family? It would have saved me a lot of misery had I caught on or knew what to look for.
@@Talk2MeTy lol 😂 family gathering ?!? Pls tell me this was a Thanksgiving dinner or something 😅 "I have fibroids and need a surgery anyone else? Pass the potatoes 🍠🥔 pls"
@@G7Zeta OK so we have that type of family where at any time, expect any conversation 🤦🏽♀️ And it was Thanksgiving 🤣🤣. I had stopped eating meat, and that's how it came about lol.
I hope you are recovering well Daye! I am a uterine fibroid sister. Mine were first detected as "pebbles" when I was roughly 24 or so and I was told not to worry because they seemed stable and were not causing any issues. Y the time in was in my 30s early 30s to be exact, my periods had become heavier and gradually the anemia began. By the time I was 32 I had my first myomectomy. I was told this should help substantially and though it was a rough recovery, things were better temporarily. By the time I was 34 or so the fibroids had returned, the anemia was back as I'd never fully recovered from the anemia and I ended up having a UFE (Uterine fibroid embolization) with a radiologist. That helped substantially and was a mostly non-invasive procedure. Prior to this I'd been told that it was highly unlikely that I have children due to this reoccurring issue and I'd come to terms with it and was I the process of becoming an adoptive parent. After the UFE which at the time I was told would likely cement that I would not carry children, within 3 months I was pregnant with my one and only child, my son. God Is! I had a high risk pregnancy mostly because I'd had these two procedures on my uterus AND my embryo would have to share my uterus with now more fibroids. I delivered my boy 9 months later via c-section and he was fine. That was in 2012. After his arrival and some months later, the heavy periods returned and the anemia continued and I was back on the road to find a solution. I had a second UFE in early 2019 and honestly, it was unsuccessful. It is now 2021 and this year at this time I am planning for a hysterectomy. I've had my child and am now 45 years old and the issues around having these fibroids is simply not worth the cost. I am at peace with it. Yes, there was a family history of fibroids, my mom for sure but by the time any of this occurred with me she was deceased. I've had no other family members speak on this so I'm not sure if it is prevalent. I pray for you a complete healing and restoration, that you are able to have the child you desire in your future, and that life is beautiful for you. Blessings
That's crazy! I have had practically a similar experience to yours but I had my surgery for a myomectomy in 2017 because I took too long to get it treated. I was diagnosed in 2013 but I wasn't able to afford the procedure. The only other surgery that I have ever had in my entire life was my cesarean back in 2020 with my 1st and only son. They wouldn't let me go into labor my 40 weeks because I was 39 weeks when they gave me the scheduled cesarean. At least I know what contractions feel like but I don't know what a natural birth feels like. I still ovulate and have menstrual cycles. A lot of those midwives and other OBGYN say things to scare you because they figure you don't know about your body and they just tell you anything. Sometimes you just have to get a 2nd, 3rd or even 4th opinion. I was told I had some scarring on my uterine walls or something like that by this midwife but I wasn't under her care. I had an OBGYN who still comes highly recommended and I will still go back to him to this day. Him and my delivering doctor were very on point! I also was a high-risk pregnancy when I delivered my son and I'm also 45 years old. I still desire to have some more children but my son's father passed away last year. I don't know how that's going to work without me being involved with a man. But at the same time, I don't want to be just having babies with just random men! I even considered artificial insemination but I don't know how God would feel about that. I've done enough already 🤷🏾♀️.
@MsKokomarie. God is indeed Good!!! I wish you the best and since this is your journey do what is best for you. BUT your journey very similar to mine. Doctors are not gonna be real with you. Doctors are not gonna love you like you love yourself. They don't care if you can have children or not. I did my own research period. Doctors couldn't get 6 feet around me with that nonsense. I am 54 now, found out about my fibroids at 31 when I was pregnant. I have kids, healthy kids, healthy pregnancies. I have 7 large fibroids. That being said I said no to surgery, no to fibroid removal, no to blood transfusions, no to IUD contraceptive to stop the bleeding of fibroids and supper heavy periods. I said yes to God, yes to my own research. After doctors told me several things that could be done regarding my fibroids, I started taking vitamin k2, vitamin d3, an iron pill and organic black strap molasses for 3 months straight. I couldn't find my period after that and haven't seen my period in over a year. Since I'm 54 now my cycle was going to stop anyway, so no problems with periods, fibroids etc. But my doctors since age 32 been wanting to do surgery etc. I kept telling them No, that I will deal with it and God has.
I had a myomectomy about 5 months ago and it was the best decision ever. I had 14 removed and they were as big as an apple and as small as grapes. What I’ve been doing is stooping dairy red meat low stress. I drink green tea everyday. You have to do what’s best for you. Praying for a speedy recovery
@@sodvine3486 this is not the place or the time for this. You are coming across a little too aggressive with this message. Unfortunately I will report this.
Just stay upon the fibriod because if you are still menestrating and not going through menopause the fibroids could grow back after 7 years. My sister had the myomectomy 7 years ago and now is going back again for a 2nd myomectomy because they grew back. You have to research on why you developed these fibroids because they can grow back after the surgery.
@@queenroyalroyal4680 same here! I got my surgery in 2013 I now have quadruple the amount I had before and am now waiting for another surgery consult since I was told I don't qualify for the less invasive procedure.
Old white lady, here, with a grapefruit. I just want to say I appreciate your candidness and vulnerability. I'll have surgery in a few weeks. You are helping me so much. I have the blood and kidney thing too!
That fact is disheartening because ww have options and fibroids are common for all women. They always pin these types of disorders on minorities when ALL women can get them. So sick of the disparities and discrimination against us in healthcare. 😒
@@beaustisings101b5 yeah, ww get them as well. I’ve seen a couple of studies that suggest it could be because of Vitamin D levels in AA women. We have more melanin in our skin, which affects the body's ability to synthesize vitamin D. I am currently getting my Vitamin D in check. It’s unfortunate we don’t know the actual cause of them. I’d like to think my Vitamin D could be the cause because I’m otherwise healthy 🤷🏾♀️
I had fibroids last September 2020 had a myomectomy has six one was the size of a melon horrible.. looked like I was 8 months pregnant.. they were sucking the life out of me.. through prayer and fasting a year later I'm healed still healing married and now trying to start a family 🙏🏾
I just wanted to say as a black woman in my mid 30’s suffering from unexplained infertility and just found out that I have follicular cysts on my ovaries ( which they said are completely normal and “not related to infertility”) 🤔 This video is greatly appreciated. We as black women don’t always get the A1 healthcare like others and we should def be more open and not ashamed of what goes on with our bodies. Sadly I’m learning things based on my own research and discussion with other women and NOT a doctor. I hope your journey and recovering goes well. Keep us posted ❤️
Yeah...they have been saying that my while life. Nabulean cysts...same nonsense they wont hurt you. They lead to my mothers hysterectomy and subsequent Cancer diagnosis. I have had them since I ever got a pap smear. My prognosis is about where my mama's was at the same age and I will not do surgery

I had a Myomectomy 6 weeks ago...whew! I had 23 fibroids removed and one was the size of a baby head. I'm surprised you didn't have issues, you're blessed. I was extremely anemic and had very heavy & long periods.
@Kimberly Sutton Yes ma'am, I'm 9 wks post-op today. Mine varied in size and my uterus was the size of a 6 months pregnancy. There were 22 IN my uterus and one pedunculated attached outside (size of a baby head). It's still tender on the inside and my lower abdomen is still numb. All that said, I feel much better and I'm happy I got it done.
This was my journey back in 2008! I’ve had 4 beautiful boys since then and I had to have csections for all. So happy you are doing well and it’s only up from here! 💕
@mycrowniscosmic if we get a myomectomy we have to have a c-section which is 1 of the reason I've been putting the surgery off. But mines are causing so many problems that I have to do something asap!
I’m in the hospital now recovering! They raved about my hemoglobin levels and I have very mild pain even though my fibroid was 14cm! I’ll likely be discharged tomorrow. 6 months 🤰🏻 is how I appeared on some days but mostly 5 months. Depending if I’m eating foods that causes my body inflammation and time of the month during my cycle. They don’t teach you these things in school or have any awareness campaigns but it’s so common!!! Thanks for sharing your story.
DLS, I've had to have 2 C-section's and a hysterectomy. Giving thanks to the Most High that they both went well. One recovery tip that I can share with you is that as soon as you are able to move around/walk around do so. Try to stand up straight don't hump/bend over. I'm giving it to you straight no chaser...its going to hurt, but you are a champion so you are going to get through this with GOD'S Grace and Mercy...#Respect
Hello! I am THAT vegan who developed fibroids! In fact, when I was scanned, I literally had EVERY type of fibroid in and on my uterus! For reference, I'm 49. I became a vegan at the age of 8. My doctor suggested a hysterectomy. I refused and got a second opinion. I asked my doctor would he get rid of his penis if he had some lumps on it or would he have the lumps removed! POINT MADE! I found a surgeon who did a robotic myomectomy. The procedure went well initially, but I developed internal bleeding. They ended up having to go right back in to stop the bleeding and this time they had to do it laparoscopically. It was good though. The surgeon found a few more fibroids that he missed! I lost a lot of blood and ended up having to have a blood transfusion! Now, let me tell you something. I WOULD DO THAT SURGERY OVER AGAIN IN A HEART BEAT, EVEN THOUGH MY RECOVERY, DUE TO ONE NURSE I ENCOUNTERED, WAS AWFUL! For the first time in my LIFE, I had periods without awful pains! My periods were so bad I would have to call into work EVERY SINGLE MONTH! When I was a teenager, my mother used to take off from work to take care of me due to my period! I was diagnosed with fibroids at 16, but I didn't know what that meant. It was not suggested that I have them removed, so I didn't. Anyway, I had that surgery done about 9 years ago. Sadly, some of the fibroids have come back, BUT the pain is NOTHING compared to what I experienced and the effects have not been troublesome at all! DO NOT LET DOCTOR'S TELL YOU THAT YOU MUST HAVE A HYSTERECTOMY! GET A MYOMECTOMY AND KEEP YOUR LADY PARTS! Getting a hysterectomy is going to throw you into menopause and all that comes with that. Thank you for sharing your story in this video.
Stay on top of that area always. I am glad you are getting this taken care of. I had a 20cm ovarian cyst on the right one, and didn’t know it, until I had some extreme pain and couldn’t stop vomiting. The cyst was the size of a baby, shaped like a sausage, laying across my intestines and my kidney. I was so sick still after they told me I needed to see my gynecologist. They gave me some percs and sent me home. This was Thursday, Friday saw a gynecologist. They knew this thing was literally killing me. I had to be rolled into the appointment. They made an appointment for the following Wednesday. That weekend I was so weak, sick, and started feeling like this could take me out. I went through 20 pills by Monday. Nothing stopped that pain. I met my new primary care that Monday, a black man. I couldn’t give him a urine sample because now almost a week later I am not eating nor keeping water down. He called the hospital so I could be admitted. Once admitted they said my kidneys were not operating they way they should have been. My doctor asked them to see if I could get into emergency surgery. That hospital sent me to another one because they needed more assistance with my surgery. They had to drain the cyst, then still do the big incision to remove the cyst, had me open like a science experiment smh. Then had to unblock my intestines, said they were bruised. The cyst was pushing up in my stomach area. Never in my life did I feel that pain before. I have had gallbladder attacks and needed that removed years ago. That cyst almost took me out, and weighed about 35lbs. They drained 5 liters of fluid. I was getting bigger by the day, and because it had twisted that was why I was hurting so bad. I looked like I was 9 months pregnant the day of my surgery. I lost my right ovary as well. They had to do the incision from above my belly button all the way down just to get that thing out of there. And after all of that, I have 1 fibroid inside of my uterus, and now that I am 39 I am finally getting this checked out since hubby and I are trying to have kids. But that cyst……I hope I never ever ever have a cyst like this again. I wish you the best!
@@louise-yo7kz yes it was a lot. My Dad had just passed away 2 months prior so I was emotionally weak. I kept feeling like I was slipping away and just prayed for GOD to keep me here. Now 3 years later I still have cramps on the side my ovary was removed on. I’m getting it checked out now. Never ever again!!
Thank you for sharing!! Black families don't like to talk about anything and it's definitely hindering us. I am also looking for a black team of doctors and specialists and recommend us all to do so. Get well soon!!!!
I've always had white male gynecologist, until I started having female problems. I decided then that I'd feel more comfortable with a female as I was told I had precancerous cells and scared as hell. My doctor is from India and I have never felt more comfortable than I am with her. Good luck to you. 🙏
I just came across your page. I had a similar situation like this back in 2009. My stomach was getting unusually big. I looked like I was 9 months pregnant. Found out I had a mass and the Doctor said he took it out like a baby. I had to have my left ovary removed and a pretty ugly scar but it's all taken care of. Praying for a full recovery for you.
I’m so glad you were at the right medical practice, that did a thorough physical exam. Just another reminder, as a black primary care provider this was important to hear and so happy that you were able to share.
So glad I found this video.. Fibroids have taken so much out of my life.. With the excessive bleeding. Having to explain and being mortified when blood is streaming down your legs and pooling into your shoes at a family function.. That's happened on more than one occasion. NO ONE understands what's going on.. I love that people are really starting to talk about it. Thanks again for sharing..
It’s me touching my stomach the whole time I’m watching this 😂. I’m happy you’re getting this taken care of now. It’s unfortunate but definitely a conversation that I will be starting in my family. Thank you for all your transparency.
I started feeling my stomach, thinking…. Maybe this is why I’ve ballooned up like 50 pounds. No, my stomach is definitely just fat girl stomach. But, yay for not having fibroids 🥴
Wow. Sometimes it is good to switch doctors. Glad they acted fast and figured out the problem. In Carribean families we don't talk about these things and it's s something that runs in my family. I had dermoid cysts that needed to be removed. Wishing you a speedy and complete recovery.
My family is also from the Carribean and they are very vocal about getting checked for fibroid. You could be the one in your family to start speaking about this issue.
I had a similar story to yours. Went to the gyno for new birth control, as soon as she touched my stomach she knew something was off. My fibroid was 16cm (size of a watermelon). I had my myomectomy with the bikini cut in May. I pray for a speedy recovery for you.
+Alexis Gaines She’s no longer with us due to other comments. But yes-size, location, and the individuals overall condition as well as the surgeon’s expertise/experience determine which procedure is done.
Thank you so much for sharing your story. I have a similar experience and have had fibroids for almost 29 yrs. I feel they have negatively affected my career since I always appear pregnant during interviews, and if I happen to successfully hide it im treated differently during the initial days at work and sometimes my job gets terminated. I’m glad you’re creating awareness.
Wow. About 3 months I had a issue where my period was almost about 3 weeks long which is not normal. And I had these big ass blood clots that would just drop. I thought I was having a miscarriage because one of the clots looked like a fetus. I eventually contacted my provider and had a uterine ultrasound done. I have Fibroids multiple on the left side of my Uterus and the biggest one is the size of a grapefruit. Now thanks to your video imma go ahead and get this taken care of. Thank you for sharing your story, because I haven't shared this with anyone besides my mother.
I have had fibrous removed in 2006 and had My Rainbow 🌈 Baby in 2007 Just Make sure you have a High a risk Dr. Because a Doctor that doesn't Specialize in Fibrous!!! They will Suggest Removal of your Ovaries or Uterus... I had Two Fibrous cycit removed the smaller one was the size of a Cantaloupe The other size of a watermelon

Thank you for sharing. My stomach looks exactly like that and I thought it was COVID weight as well. I have tried everything from changing eating habits and working out, but no shrinkage in my waist. I believe I have fibroids. I'll be calling my OBGYN tomorrow. I am glad your surgery went well sis! Continue to heal!
I hope everything goes well with your surgery and recovery. You made such a good point about talking to family about medical history. That's such an important thing that many families (mine included) don't do enough
I had surgery December 2020. I traveled to Boston, MA Brigham Women's Hospital. Best doctor in the world. Then started my monthly cycle on time. Needless to say no hysterectomy for me.
Hello , I also have fibroids and I live in Boston would love to know a great doctor for my procedure if you don’t mind sharing, what’s your Doctor name ? Thank you 🥰
You are 💯 absolutely Right!!! I am from Boston and we have the best Hospitals. Wish I was still back home in Boston while I am going thru this. I live in Florida but wish I can be in Boston for the surgery. I miss Boston when it comes to the healthcare 👍😊
I live in Boston, & indeed I have fibroids. Submucosal ones there are different types and there can be multiple inside of you. Right now I have them & they have me looking 4 months pregnant. I had them removed before here in Boston at my home hospital. The first time they went in I woke up 4hrs later and it was not successful they punctured something so the fluid that is injected to see inside the uterus would not hold. I went back years later they went in through my abdomen/stomach it was a success. But they are now back and bigger than ever! Yes I love salt & sugar, carbs but I also cook a lot and eat healthy at times. I understand diet is important though just gotta be able to sustain a healthy one! I have two children 22&23 yrs old. I have not been able to conceive since they were born with the exception of the last surgery in 2017 I became pregnant in 2018. I miscarried at 3 months no blood etc went to ultrasound check up they said fetus was no good M my body would not menstruate for 7 months as if I were pregnant. Never have been able to conceive again since but they are in fact back again! So now I have to definitely change things up! I’m tired of these things. They have taken over so my life for too many years ! I may decide to get them removed again wish they had a pill to shrink these bad boys in the meantime I’ll be working on my diet!
Awesome video sis.. I've dealt with my fibroids for years. HEAVY and painful periods; my doctors believed that's what had helped to prevent me from getting pregnant. I've had had 2 vaginal myomectomies and 1 laproscopic myomectomy... after the last surgery, no more heavy and painful periods. Praying for a successful surgery and speedy recovery 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
How heavy were your periods and did they last more than a month? Going through it now and was given provera to help and progesterone cream until my next appointment.
@@ejuarez8252 my periods were beyond heavy, I wore super tampons with two super heavy pads and I would soak through them in about an hour. The tampon would come out by itself ...the clots would simply push it out and that was always a messy issue. I would have to sleep on plastic so that I wouldn't mess up my bed. I had bled for a month, but caused me to be anemic.
I had an ovarian cyst the size of a grapefruit. I looked like I was in my third trimester before my doctor even suggested I get an ultrasound. Crazy experience. Wishing you a quick recovery! 🙏🏾
Thanks for your video. I was just told I have a large mass the size of a grapefruit in my uterus. I've had about 10 people in the past year ask me if I was pregnant, or when I was due. And now it all makes sense.
Hey Daye! I appreciate you so much for sharing your journey. The part that stuck out to me is the concern and thorough understanding of your issue and speed of care which is uncommon for us in the black community. It took me 5 years and 4 doctors to tell me I had utterine fibroids and PCOS and still didn't get a action plan other than loose weight 😒. I am praying that you have an successful surgery and complete healing and recovery. 🙏🏾
I have uterine fibroids and learned about them in my 30's after my 3rd child was born. My periods became very heavy (soaking overnight pads every two hours) and I eventually became severely anemic. I take iron and other supplements to keep my hemoglobin levels up and I eat lots of green vegetables, no red meat, and no dairy. Now at close to 50, periods are stabilizing.
I have extremely painful cramps and close friends would always press me to check it out. I ignored them and just took medicine. One day is got worse so I googled what the pain could be from. I self diagnosed and then asked my doctor to get an ultrasound. I found out thay I did have a fibroid in the uterus, but it was super small. They said it didn't need to be removed. I haven't checked on it recently and it's been years. Your video is making me curious about looking into again. Thanks for sharing and I pray surgery goes smooth for you!
Look into it! Don’t be like my wife, on a serious I wish every black women with fibroid can know early get rid early trust you will have a beautiful life, mind and body and your close loved ones won’t suffer it too!
@@adejuwonodugbesi3102 thank you for your words. I forgot about my post. Your comment reminded me to make an appointment. Thanks and I pray your wife is well.
I'm sitting here getting ready for work trying not cry because your story sounds so much like mine and no one knew what I was talking about I can see a large grapefruit sized mass in my stomach when I lay down I've been to the ER twice with abdominal pain they said I had fibroids but nothing to worry about until I got into a car accident and the ER staff was extremely concerned about this mass. My white blood cells are low and everything but no one was treating it seriously. I'm taking your video as a sign to go back to my GYN ASAP. Thank you.
wow, I can't even imagine the amount of stress that this has put you though. Thank god for your medical team and am shocked that your medical insurance didn't want to allow the scan that you needed. Hope everything goes well with the procedure. I just get the feeling that there are women that are watching that needed to hear your story.
OMG! Last week I spent 6 hours in the ER. I have a fibroid growing the size of a baby. I was in the worst pain ever. I go for my MRI the second week in November. I now take Fibroid Defense vitamins. I am praying for no surgery and believing God to heal me. Thank you for your transparency. I'm glad the surgery went well.
Excuse my audacity in saying this but: surgery is a form of God's healing too. I've seen a lot of women say they are waiting on supernatural healing and some do get it, but many others suffer unnecessarily and have long lasting damage because they feel the doctors aren't doing God's work. They are. It's up to you and your conscience but I'm keeping it real with you.
Lady: who said anything about Doctors not doing God’s work? You could have kept your comment to yourself. I only said I praying for no surgery. If I do have surgery it’s blessing! If I don’t have surgery it’s a blessing. Yeah you could have kept that to yourself. Thanks love.
Wishing you all the best and a speedy recovery. I just had my abdominal myomectomy 5 1/2 weeks ago. I am due to return back to work next week. Like you this was my first surgery as well. I have the bikini cut. It's still very tender but over all I am doing well thank God. My after surgery tips would be the following: * take meds as directed and on schedule. Trust me that is very important to your comfort. * take the colace (stool softener) 2x daily. * Gas X and peppermint tea are clutch; I have never experienced gas pain and bloating like what you will feel after surgery. Heed this warning it is very painful. As much as you will not want to you walking helps relieve that pain. It will take time but that relief is like seeing angels. * body pillow or multiple pillows I couldn't lay down for 2 weeks after surgery. Also getting in and out of bed is a challenge take your time. * take your time don't rush your healing. Accept all the help ppl offer you you will need it. Good luck.
Issa J, thanks for writing this! It will help many. I foolishly skipped 1 of my post-op meds to minimize meds in my body and I developed excruciating gas pains, projectile vomiting and ended up back in the hospital. I’m thankful I survived it and wish anyone going through this the best.
I have large ones. Early 50's. I look pregnant. Still have regular periods And they come every 28days. Some months with pain, some none. I am apprehensive about the surgery but this is beginning to really affect my health. I was always fit until now and I am miserable. Thank you for sharing your story. I have just found out that so many of my family has had this issue and yet, it was never discussed. I have four grown kids, two of them are daughters. This is vital to be discussed.
Wow! I can't believe how relevant your video is. I'm so glad you also had a great team who took care of you too. Praying for your recovery! I'm home recovering from a hysterectomy due to an extremely large fibroid. I still have my ovaries. I decided for this because I have had a history of fibroids, but this one got super huge, and I didn't want them to keep coming back, and I'm 35, and having kids has never been my dream. My periods were horrible; I was anemic, and I had to go the bathroom all the time; the fibroid was pressing on my bladder, and it looked like I was 3 months pregnant despite working out. A normal uterus is only 2oz. Mine was over 5 pounds once it was removed and weighed.
Sounds like my life now (heavy periods, anemic, no kids and no innate desire to have any, etc.) except I’m 36 and getting a second opinion literally this week to be sure a hysterectomy is my only option…
This very similar to my situation, I want to have my uterus removed as well when I have my surgery cause I don't want kids, I am prepping now to have my surgery because I was told that I will be out 6-8 weeks.
I'm 45 and reading your comment like it me in the near future. Two weeks ago I was hospitalized for 3 units of blood in transfusion due to heavy bleeding. Found out I've got 1 lg (orange size) fibroid and a bunch of others. Hysterectomy is the ultimate goal but I'm needing multiple iron infusions to keep my hemoglobin # up. I went into ER with hemo level of 4.9 (they start transfusions at 7🤦♀️ normal starts at 12). So I need to be able to handle major surgery. To be honest, I'm scared, but reading your story and knowing your good helps me feel positive. 🙏🏻 That your recovery continues to go well 💕
So ur saying u removed ur uterus, ppl saying removing the uterus will put u in menopause mode and one will experience hot flushes and all that comes with menopause. What was ur experience after u removed ur uterus, did u experience any of the symptoms like hot flashes n if before removing ur uterus/fibroids did u had a bloated/ big tummy that seemed like one is pregnant and after removing ur fibroids did ur stomach shrink does it look flatter plz share ur experience I have fibroids irregular heavy periods n protruding tummy no matter diet or exercise still look pregnant never been pregnant had children n no desire in future to have any I just want to know what was ur experience how ur tummy looks n how you feel thank u
I feel so much with you. I know exactly what you going through. I am 43 and I have a fibroid of cervix, 7cm in size and having it removed tomorrow via surgical hysteroscopy. That's how I found you because I'm trying to get some more intel online on this procedure :) I had extreme bleeds so they did ultrasound and that's how I found out. They also did hemoglobin test and my was only 6.1 (normal is like 12-16) so I had to have blood transfusion (2 bags!!!). Can't wait for the surgery let me tell you!! They say that black women are more prone to this but I'm white and a normal weight and I have it too. I think it's hereditary in my case- my mother had it, her mom had it and my aunt as well! They all had hysterectomies. Not me thankfully, for now anyways.....Wish you all the best!
I really appreciate you using your platform to address this issue! So many of us suffer in silence… I pray that all goes well and you continue to grow from this experience.🥰. I commend you…Hang in there sis!
Hey Daye, I watched your video last night and just saw your post from the hospital. I'm glad you were able to give us an update. I'm one of your oldest followers so I'll be brief with my story. My mother had 5 daughters and ALL of us suffered with Fibroids. Unfortunately I did had to have major surgery after trying to live with them inside of me. There were tons of them and blood loss and pain each and every month. Thank goodness there are many more treatment options that exist now. I wish you well and can't wait for the update.
Thank you for being transparent. This video is definitely needed. So many black women deal with this and we have no idea what's going on. Thank God you have a doctors that care!!!
I had no idea very young women had fibroids, I'm learning alot in my old age, thanks to RUclips and the people who put out their stories, never too old to learn.
Hi Daye. I had uterine fibroids almost 20 years ago. I have a great gynecologist who did a wonderful job removing them. I had to have a bikini cut, and you can barely see it. I did use scar tape, too minimize the scar from having that raised look. My surgery was on a Monday, and was home by Thursday. I was out of work for six weeks, with no complications. Praying that everything goes well with you.
Thank you for this! I got back from the hospital yesterday after a Uterine Fibroid Embolization for multiple fibroids (making me look 4 months pregnant). I’ve had myomectomies before and I’m soo glad to see your video! We, as a community, need to talk about this more for support and awareness. Wishing you all the best and and a speedy recovery!!
A cousin of mine has fibroids and she looks 10 months pregnant.. my oldest sister had hers removed a couple of years ago. Thanks for sharing your story and have a speedy recovery 🙏🏽
Just had mine removed, 5 days ago. Mine was bigger than yours and 33 in numbers. I'll show it soon on my channel, still recovering. Didn't want to share, but you just motivated me. Good luck sweetie.
Prayers go out to you for your surgery! My grandmother, my mom and I all had them. I had the first go around where my doctor went in and shaved them down, they came back bigger and I end up having a hysterectomy in my 40’s. I am praying that you will not need a hysterectomy. 🙏🏽
I have a fibroid the size of a grapefruit and opted to do a Uterine Fibroid Embolization/ Uterine Artery Embolization as opposed to a Hysterectomy. I have had 4 c-sections and really really want to avoid surgery. I was told this method is less invasive but very effective in shrinking and killing off certain fibroids. I am only about 2 mos post procedure still experiencing a lot of similar symptoms but I am supposed to give it 6mos for full results. Just to let you all know to talk to your doctors, get 2nd and 3rd opinions for sure esp when it comes to surgery. Do your research , weigh all your options and decide what is best for you. And if you have smaller fibroids keep an eye on them. Mine grew from grape size to grapefruit size in 5 years time and was only discovered during an emergency DNC. Best Wishes!!
Thank you! I need to be serious in finding a different obgyn. I’ve been dealing with similar issues with my period and if thats a sign then I need to get a thorough obgyn. We need to have more conversations like this. Good luck with your procedure and recovery💛 Oh and Noti gaannnggggg lol
I want to thank you for this video I was told two days ago literally Tuesday, that I have fibroids. I had to go to the ER because I woke up in so much pain. I have an appointment today with my OB hopefully everything goes well for today. I don’t know what to do and think but seeing your video has made me feel a little better and hopefully my doctors are as nice as yours. This is honestly my second time seeing this doctor due to me moving to a new place over the last year…….fingers crossed!!!! ❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much for sharing your story and I'm praying for a speedy recovery 🙏🏾 I found out a few months ago I have 3 fibroids, and one of them is a size of a baby's head. And for me for me my PCP and Surgeon are suggesting a total hysterectomy because of my age - 46 and already had my kids,, I can't take the medications that could possibly help shrink due to high blood pressure, and I am in pain all the time with pressure. . It's so nerve-racking because I don't know what I would do having to be out four-to-six weeks to heal with not much support. Sigh... anyway you're right black families don't talk about it at all and when I started asking my family I found out that it ran in my family..and granma had a hysterectomy. Anyway I really do appreciate you talking with us about your experience. I need to go ahead and get my surgery scheduled too.
I had.this.same.surgery last.Monday. My uterus.and.fibroid. was the size of a full term baby. I was quite nervous and. so grateful not have.had.such.an.amazing.team.. I.am.waiting for.the.biopsy results and hopefully I.can.put.this.chapter. behind.me.and.get my life.back.. For the past year I have literally been at.the.mercy.of.my.uterus.
Thank you for sharing your story. Hope your surgery goes well. I also recently found out I have a 15 cm fibroid, and I just recently had the UFE procedure (Uterine Fibroid Embolization). It's an outpatient procedure with a shorter recovery time. Everyone is different, so everyone needs the treatment that will be best for them. Good luck to you on your journey!
Hi Kiara, I have 3 fibroids and the largest one is almost 9cm. I plan to have UFE next month. Please do share your recovery experience since your UFE was performed. I would really like to know. I wish doctors had informed me that UFE was an option years ago considering it has been around for around 30 years. I can’t tell you how many women I come across who still haven’t been informed about UFE. I digress. I hope you are healing well!
@@michelleb.1400 hello Michelle. I’m only 2 weeks post op right now, but so far my recovery has been fairly decent. I was back up feeling more like myself again within a week so that says a lot. I agree, it is a shame most doctors won’t express to you all of your options. My doctor did not inform me of ufe either, I had to do my own research and seek a second opinion. Hopefully things go well for you, best of luck on your journey 🙏🏾✨
@@kaj4692 Hey lady thanks for your reply and for taking charge of your life by doing the research! I'm glad that you are also recovering well. My doctor advised that it normally takes one week of bed rest so its good to know you are on target. Thank you for the well wishes in advance!
I understand how you might be feeling, and I pray that your surgery goes well and nothing unforeseen is found during it. These types of things do need to be talked about in the black community, and we as black women need to stop ignoring our symptoms. My mom was adamant about feminine care for herself and her daughters. My first fibroid was found when I was 15 and had to be removed when I was 16. It grew from grape to grapefruit size in nine months. They were concerned that it might be cancerous. No one else in my family had them but that same year they found out I have SLE and it seems that having the autoimmune disease can lead to many other issues. Sometimes I feel as though I spend more time in doctor's offices, clinics, and hospitals than I do at home. I am however grateful for having excellent care from my medical teams.
I too have SLE and hope you are doing well. I had a hysterectomy 20 years ago due to fibroids. I was lucky to have the bikini cut so my scarring has faded.
I appreciate you so much for bringing this topic to your channel. Sharing something so personal yet important is admirable. Wishing you well for the surgery and recovery ❤️
I have two small fibroids about the size of a quarter. I’m 36 I have two children. My doctor won’t operate unless they get larger. I agree that this is a convo that we should be having especially knowing how prevalent they are in our community
Take care of yourself sis! Thank you for being so thoughtful and turning this into education for us, because these conversations need to be had! Praying for your safe recovery!!!
This is great video. As an ultrasound technician majority of my patients have fibroids and are black women. Its very important we ask our mothers, grandmothers, auties about our family history. Black families don't like to talk about health and we have to change that. I wish you all the best and safe recovery on you surgery 🙏🏾
+tweety’s life It’s prevalent in other countries as well. Maybe they don’t talk about it like we do but here’s an article on Fibroids in Europe. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/20598796/
@@tweetyslife253 alot of people believes the foods we eat and diet plays a major factor. I believe it as well, foods is America is filled with so much hormones, and unnecessary ingredients. Alot of my patients would eliminate dairy, meat and take part in a more vegan lifestyle. Fibroids thrives on hormones thats how they grow, as you get older your body isn't producing that much so they tend to shrink or stay the same size.
Fibroid are so common now. Before a lot of doctors would say it affects mainly black women. As an OR nurse, there’s so many cases of myomectomies. An 8lb fibroid was removed three weeks ago. And younger women are having hysterectomies too for fibroids and cancer. This is why it’s imperative to have those yearly paps.
Your journey is literally what I am going through right now to the T!. I am anemic with 20 fibroids the size of oranges all inside the uterus, so had to get a UTE surgery last week and my hysterectomy is Dec 2nd.. I'm so ready for mine to be out, I am actually in a lot of pain, so this was very interesting to hear your story too.. God bless on a speedy recovery!
I have one huge one and the tummy is hella huge too, need to constantly take prevention pills to stop bleeding and reduce pain. I honestly can't wait for the whole thing to be out as well😢
I had a hysterectomy in June. My cycles would last 7 days and then started lasting up to two weeks or more with pain. I pray that God bless you with a safe surgery and speedy recovery.
Wow, so sorry you have to go through this. So glad everything has been okay up to this point. Praying that surgery and recovery goes well! Thank you for opening up about this experience. You are right this is something we would be talking about. I think a lot of times we as black ppl are ashamed about this kinds of stuff and never discuss it. Which leads to generations of ppl having the same issues and not knowing how to prevent it or deal with it. We gotta do better! Again praying all goes well for you!🙏🏽❤️
Is it possible to get rid of them beiing on planer based diet? I need to go to hospital tomorrow to check myself cause heavy menstrual bleeding and leg pain, back pain, feeling sexual feeling in my root chakra also.......
Omg 😭 glad you went to the doctor to really found out what was going on. Sending prayers to you may the Lord be in that room with you guiding everyone in there, thank for sharing your story with us so the girls struggling with weight loss may get motivated on seeing a Dr to find out what they can't loose weight instead of jumping and switching on diets that randomly appears in the internet 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Thank you and all the women who have told your stories in the comments! Just left the gyno, and have known I had fibroids for a few years but they have always been small. Considering getting them removed but alittle nervous!!!
The good things people say about Dr Aluda on RUclips and his herbal supplements is so true I just shrunk my multiple fibroids with his herbal medicine he also cures hpv and hsv1&2..
Thank you for this video. Fibroids run in my family and scare the hell out of me. I watched my mother experience fibroids and endometriosis in her 30's ..I started having intense pain and hemorrhaging during every period about 2 years ago ..and basically had to hound doctors about it until it was found ..mine is small but it definitely affects me negatively ..I usually don't comment on videos but this really resonates with me. I hope your surgery goes well ..I wish you nothing but love and a fast recovery ❤💜🧡
I had fibroid in 2001, 2010, 2012 surgeries. In 2001 I had a bikini cut, and that was the most pain I ever had. The others was a laparoscop and it was much better on me. Every body that he fibroid have different symptoms. But what I want every one to do after your surgery is do the waist band to train your stomach to go back to small size. With fibroid your blood issues you will have.
I have fibroids and I am currently facing a second myomectomy after getting them removed 7 years ago, and now that they are back I’m afraid I may lose my uterus. I am speaking to another doctor this week and also looking to find a noninvasive doctor because I really want children and idk what to do. I’m happy you go this handled as soon as you could.
Update: One of my doctors are optimistic that he can get all of them and make sure im intact after. And I can have surgery as soon as late January. I honestly cant wait for this to be over.
@@michelleinfo-vlog2449 I got surgery early last month. Long story short, my doctors removed 150 fibroids, my appendix and fixed an umbilical hernia the first day. I was told i endometriosis as well. I was fine after that. Even got up with some help and started walking. I began bleeding into my abdomen somepoint after and they went back in to fix it and my uteris was bleeding through the stitches so the fixed it closed me back up and i was fine. ....til the next day when i was bleeding again and my doctor told me they had to take my uterus. They only left my ovaries. Now i am 31, i still want children but have to fine the ways to have my own..... i really dont know what to feel and still havent updated my own platform.
@@michelleinfo-vlog2449 on a more positive note how ever, im happy to be free. Im happy to have my body back. It was killing me and i was just trying to nurse it back to health.
Just want to say, thank you so much for your transparency! That has always been my reason for following you. You’re so open and knowledgeable with everything! I appreciate you for shedding light on real life situations. Praying for a safe surgery, and speedy recovery ♥️ Can’t wait to hear your update!
Thank you so much for sharing your journey. In February 2020 I was diagnosed with one fibroid and one ovarian cyst at the time. My periods always came regularly, although over time they became much more heavier and I'd have extreme cramping at times, and I became anemic. The fibroids and cysts were also most likely a contributing factor to my infertility (I am 39 btw). Fast forward, on 10/21/21 I had 2 fibroids removed 8cm and 3cm and 2 chocolate ovarian cysts removed (endometriomas). It was also discovered that I have stage 4 endometriosis (which is the worst stage) and I had NO idea that I had this until my doctor told me just before wheeling me back for surgery. So that's another concern that I will have to figure out, but overall my surgery to remove the fibroids and cysts went well. I also had an open/c-section myomectomy but I had a minimally invasive version. I went home the same day, recovery time is about 2 weeks (but no strenuous activity or sex for 4 weeks), and honestly by the 3rd or 4th day, I was feeling about 80% back to normal. Wishing you a restful and smooth recovery. I will be following your journey, or as much as you choose to share, because I can definitely relate to this.
Sending well wishes and a speedy recovery. Thank you for being so transparent. Love you girl. Ok I just finish the video girl I'm praying for you and I'm such a cry baby. Just know I cried almost the whole video. God got you boo. If you want a family trust and believe the lord up above will make that happen. I wish I knew you more personally. I want to call you and give you lots of love. Sending lots and lots of prayers.
I get dismissed so often, I’m just praying I don’t find anything later in life. They insurance always deny PREVENTATIVE treatments…then when stuff hits the fan, it takes people forever to line up appointments. I’m just so nervous about my heath which is why I’m trying to take better care of my overall health. Wishing you well and quick and great healing! 🙏🏾
Thank God i came across this as am typing this i look like am 9 months pregnant and had my son 17 months ago. I have scheduled an appointment to get it checked. My mom passed due to cancer and she ignored all these signs. All the way from Soutn Africa.
Praying your surgery went well. I had fibroids as well. I had a partial hysterctomy...no uterus. I still have my ovaries. My periods were crazy heavy, painful and long. I was in my late 30s and had to take care like I was 13 again..looking behind me every time I got up. That kind of thing. I was more than happy that they took my uterus. Now, I have no issues 😊
Why do they leave the ovaries? To help with heart rate? I heard hysterectomies can affect that but I didn’t know they were different types. IF I do get it I would want them to just take it all out to prevent growths and still manage stress, eat well and move my body. Ah ya ya ya. The thought of it all is just tew much 😫
Best wishes that your surgery/recovery goes smoothly. At age 44 I had laparoscopic surgery to remove 2 grapefruit size fibroid tumors. Wished I would’ve done more research because later I found out that a change of diet/lifestyle would’ve helped to shrink mine.
@@GodisGraciiouss A plant based diet is the key to solving most health issues. However some people, like the young lady in the video, must have the fibroids removed. The Breakfast Club featured three doctors who talked about fibroids in black women. That’s where I got the information.
My Gynecologist knew immediately that I had fibroids. She sent me for the ultra sound. Only 6 showed up on the ultrasound. When I had my surgery there were 19 tumors. Having a good Dr and medical team makes all the difference
Thank you so much for your transparency and bravery to share your journey!! So sorry that you are going through this . It’s a blessing that you have a team that have made your well-being a priority! Wishing you a successful surgery and a healthy recovery ❤️
Thank you for sharing! I’ve noticed in the pass year my stomach has increased in size as well and people have been asking me if I’m pregnant. I’ve always been skinny as well. I’ve even been trying to do sit ups and crunch but it’s hasn’t changed. Also, my periods have always been difficult every month. Im going to bring this up to my doctor and check it out.
Hello! I had uterine fibroids and had a myomectomy laparoscopically to have my fibroids removed. I was having heavy periods similar to how you explained yours. I came on my period 2 days after surgery and it was so light and short and that was the only symptom I knew of.
I’m cracking up at the way you’re telling the story but I’m sure there was absolutely nothing funny about it when you were going through it. Thank you so much for your transparency!! ❤️❤️ praying for a complete recovery.
You are so amazing for sharing your story with us! I had fibroids as well as cyst which really made my periods skip for months. My OBGYN told me after my first baby was born I wouldn't be able to have anymore children because I was diagnosed with PCOS (policystic ovarian syndrome). Well, long story short...God blessed me with twins and another baby. I did have to have a hysterectomy because I had endometriosis. Which was terribly painful. I was able to keep my ovaries though. Praying all goes well for you! I know it will! 😊
Look at God the doctor told me with my endometriosis it will be difficult for me to have children and I would need to go on birth control to stop the pain cause even with surgery they can't remove all the cysts unless I take out my womb so I will have pains. I am terrified but thanks for sharing your testimony, I will keep my ovaries and change my diet and remain prayerful.
So I’ve had 2 Myomectomies to remove Intrauterine fibroids, because as I’m sure you know now, they can come back. I’m 5’3” and at that the time of my surgeries I weighed between 125 and 130, so definitely not overweight! For me and some of my girlfriends, we noticed that we developed fibroids after having an IUD. Take it easy during recovery and keep a positive mindset! I hope all went well for you, and I appreciate you sharing your story. Thank you for addressing those who say their narrative or ideals are the standard. We were not made from a Cookie cutter, so each person’s fibroid experience is different!
Completed my surgery last may (myomectomy for a large pedunculated fibroid) minimal scars and recovery was easy. Pregnant now with my first child and I’m SO glad I decided to get the surgery! Pregnancy is already complicated enough so to have that issue gone puts my mind at ease. You won’t regret doing this before starting a family. Thanks for being so transparent and open about this topic that affects our community so much!
Hi. I just read your response. I also have a predunculated firbroid of 9 cm and would like to know which surgery you had if you don't mind sharing. Thank you.
How long did it take you to recovery fully and become pregnant,,, asking coz I.m just waiting for my appointment letter for the surgery and would like to become pregnant after
Glad you’re talking about this. The same thing happened to me at my last pelvic physical exam over the summer. Mine aren’t as big, but the same thing- she felt it in my uterus and turns out I have fibroids. I’ve been using acupuncture, and herbal teas and remedies to manage the extra pain and blood. It’s made a big difference. If they don’t shrink by the next exam then I’ll probably opt for the myomectamy.
I recently had a hysterectomy. My fibroid was huge. I have already had my children and I refuse to suffer any more pain. I had it while pregnant and the pain was unimaginable. My doctor refused to take it out and it got bigger over three years. People don't understand the pain and the bleeding every month. You are so lucky to be blessed to get them out of you. Now I'm on my fourth week of recovery and it's been hard. My doctor tested my uterus and told me that i had endometriosis. People would make comments that i ate to much and that is why my stomach was big. They just didnt know i was suffering. My craving were soda and sweets. You touched me when you said you dont have those cravings and i don't either. Thanks for your video.
I have 3 subserosal fibroids, the largest one is about 5.5 cm in diameter. My mom has several of them too. I have heavy periods too and they've been heavy since I started getting periods at age 11. I'm not sure if they've grown since I found out I had them but watching this video is convincing me to get another ultrasound done to make sure everything is ok. Thanks for sharing your story and praying for a successful surgery and a speedy recovery!
Hello Daye!!! My name is Latorya. I can definitely relate to your situation because I also had fibroids myself and it was rough journey for me also, but I’ve recently had got a Pre-Op Myomectomy back in August of this year and they remove a total of 19 fibroids and they took a portion of my uterus. It is was the best decision I’ve ever made
I have fibroids as well but mine are really small so I dont have to get them cut out since my gynecologist said if they're not causing any pain or irregular bleeding during cycles leave em be. But one was big that I could feel in abdomen but I started drinking raspberry tea and cutting carbs since I knew that help shrink fibroids and that shrunk it luckily for me since we could no longer feel it. But yes fibroids especially for black women is something that needs to be talked about. So glad you caught them now!
I thought the instructions said not to drink raspberry tea if you have fibroids? I started drinking it, but was scared when I read the directions so I stopped.
I have my surgery next month, I have one the size of a grapefruit and one the size of a small watermelon. I pray my surgery helps relieve my stomach pains and pressure. Thanks for the insight and what I am to expect, this is my very first surgery, ever.
Hello Daye, prayers for a healthy recovery and thank you for sharing your journey. I watched video in shock that someone else is enduring my exact- to some degree experience. At 25, I had a lump just below my navel my primary said it was a fat deposit. I was a size 4 and I'm tall so I can see it lying down. The next year I had stabbing pain ended up in ER. Triage nurse told me it was a fibroid. Same type of fibroid, 3 day cycle bc it was on the outside of my uterus. I left it alone and monitored it for years. Fast forward 45 and siz 6 looked 8 months pregnant. I had alot going on. I waited close to menopause age to have removed. No pain. I couldn't pig out and sleeping was uncomfortable. Great Dr. Had laproscopic partial hysterectomy. One day surgery no pain no scars. I have a soft belly but flat. Found out my maternal grand mother and aunt had hysterectomy. Back in the day they didn't know the term fibroid. It was never discussed in our family. I will say my grand mother nor aunt never had a relaxers. (Press and curl) days. I truly believe it's a lack of vita.in D. It's very common in the Black community as a whole, Hispanics and I have Asian coworkers dealing with fibroid. My advise start seeing gyno at 18, know or ask if any has had hysterectomy in the family. Lack of Vitamin D cause more health issues than you can imagine. Starting taking vitamins D and folic acid. Do your homework, it's not just fibroids, endometriosis is no joke and it's just as common and extremely painful. Thank you again for sharing your story. All the best...
I just had that laparoscopy one two weeks ago because I’m trying to have a baby. I will say you will need to have someone with you at least for the first week. And lots of pillows and liquid type food. Good luck sis! Not gonna lie I’m pretty pissed at my old gynos for not catching it earlier because my ovaries are pretty scarred from the fibroids. I’ve asked my drs directly before if I possibly had fibroids because my periods are super heavy and painful and they were like no just take Tylenol (basically dismissing me). Anyway girl I’m glad they figured it out, good luck!!
I just want to emphasize sticking with liquids for the first week or so. Your bowels get real lazy after surgery, the pain meds make you constipated and the pressure will make you want to do drastic things. I honestly only cried from trying to go to the bathroom and not being able to. That was probably the worst part of the recovery process. That and the gas because they fill you with air during surgery so also make sure you get gas-x. Also if you have allergies make sure you take your meds because sneezing will make you feel like you died the first week or two. Not trying to be negative but those are things I wish someone had told me. You don’t realize how many things you use your stomach muscles for until you can’t use them anymore lol.
Wow 👀👀👀 I had a myomectomy in July of this year and honestly I'm happy I've gotten it. I still have one fibroid left but it wasn't big enough to remove it. Thank you so much for sharing your story. 🥰
Thank you, thank you for sharing!! This needs to be normal conversation! I’m dealing with a similar journey for the past 2 years. Fortunately, I have no pain or issues with my monthly flow but the tumors have grown slightly and my OBGYN is already talking about options to have a myomectomy 😩 I’m not looking forward to any surgery, doc said no to UFE since I want to have kids and recently I found out about HIFU, which uses high frequency ultrasound energy that kills the fibroid cell tissue and the tumor reduces in size significantly within a year and non-invasive! Still doing my research. My MRI is scheduled next week so fingers crossed no major changes!! Praying for a speedy recovery! 🙏🏾💕
I have been putting off mine too for the last couple years but in the last month my stomach is sticking out. I didn’t like any of the options. They all sounded scary.
@@ninaowusuh1418 hey! I recently had the laparoscopic surgery earlier this year and everything went well! 🙌🏾 I was anxious but everything worked in my favor! No infections, quick recovery, stomach flattened a bit and lost a few pounds after the procedure. The HIFU procedure works on a case by case basis and I didn’t qualify. The only known side affect is that it can impact the surrounding organs where they can melt into itself or others and that will create a new medical issue! I would say continue to do your research, talk to your doctor and make the best choice for you! I pray all goes well in whatever you decide! 💕

Hi Daye! Glad everything went OK. 🙏🏾 Wishing you a speedy recovery! ❤❤
Can you PIN this comment to the top!! 🙌🏾 I'm glad you are recovering well and thank you for cautioning misinformation.
Thank you 😊
This is so helpful! Glad you are doing much better. Thank you for the tips! 🙏🏽
Thank you, so I have to leave my sugar and bread alone ? I'm suffering from grief and loss already 🤦
I hope I'll be disciplined enough to do this for my health sake

Blessings
Thank you for your story…
Thanks for your story and God bless you
That's crazy!
God bless! Thanks for sharing💜

I have not been able to conceive since they were born with the exception of the last surgery in 2017
I became pregnant in 2018.
I miscarried at 3 months no blood etc went to ultrasound check up they said fetus was no good
M my body would not menstruate for 7 months as if I were pregnant.
Never have been able to conceive again since but they are in fact back again! So now I have to definitely change things up! I’m tired of these things. They have taken over so my life for too many years !
I may decide to get them removed again wish they had a pill to shrink these bad boys in the meantime I’ll be working on my diet!
So glad you had the courage to share this with us. Sending you love and light as you recover from surgery over the next few weeks! 🤗 💕
This is my biggest problem..painful and heavy periods. I have my surgery planned for July 15th..I pray for a solution
How heavy were your periods and did they last more than a month? Going through it now and was given provera to help and progesterone cream until my next appointment.
@@MegaCocoa11 how did everything go with your surgery? How have you been healing?
@@ejuarez8252 my periods were beyond heavy, I wore super tampons with two super heavy pads and I would soak through them in about an hour. The tampon would come out by itself ...the clots would simply push it out and that was always a messy issue. I would have to sleep on plastic so that I wouldn't mess up my bed. I had bled for a month, but caused me to be anemic.
@@ejuarez8252 how have things been going? Is the medication working?
It broke my heart to hear this. I hope you are alright.
Crazy it is but great you had your kids before all of this. Best blood builder is the Mega Food Blood Builder and is a life saver !
Thank you! Please follow up! You may be eligible for the Laparoscopy while its small. Hope all goes well 🙏🏾

Same as me bt I'm so scared and planning for another ultrasound because I just moved in with my partner last month and we trying to have a baby

My after surgery tips would be the following:
* take meds as directed and on schedule.
Thsnk you for this!
Exactly the same situation here same age . I am in so much pain and can’t work out anymore it’s horrible used to be so fit
Did the fibroids ever return?
@@AshleyWilliams-jk2qy no they did not grow back.
Hi! Do you remember what kind of fibroids you had? & what kind of scar tape you used ?
Thank you for this! I got back from the hospital yesterday after a Uterine Fibroid Embolization for multiple fibroids (making me look 4 months pregnant). I’ve had myomectomies before and I’m soo glad to see your video! We, as a community, need to talk about this more for support and awareness. Wishing you all the best and and a speedy recovery!!
Did the Embolization get rid of your stomach
A cousin of mine has fibroids and she looks 10 months pregnant.. my oldest sister had hers removed a couple of years ago. Thanks for sharing your story and have a speedy recovery 🙏🏽
Just had mine removed, 5 days ago. Mine was bigger than yours and 33 in numbers. I'll show it soon on my channel, still recovering. Didn't want to share, but you just motivated me. Good luck sweetie.
Hi, how are you feeling now? How did the surgery go? Did you have to have a T scar? Any information you would like to share is very appreciated.
Good luck with your procedure and recovery💛

That's what I'm scheduled for May 20th, fingers crossed 🤞
@@MegensBay I'm sorry you had to have a hysterectomy, but it's great you had a good surgeon. I'm doing okay atm, and I hope you are as well.

what exactly is a fibroid? The images look human to me.
What can be reason for non hpv related cases? Pap smear would not show what is inside fibroids

What kind of procedure was it I had a myomectemy before and I had to be out for six weeks!

Me too Chantel Henderson
What type of diet? What foods are best to shrink it?

Thank you for sharing! I’ve noticed in the pass year my stomach has increased in size as well and people have been asking me if I’m pregnant. I’ve always been skinny as well. I’ve even been trying to do sit ups and crunch but it’s hasn’t changed. Also, my periods have always been difficult every month. Im going to bring this up to my doctor and check it out.
Any updates?
What a testimony! God has the last word!
Same thing, I developed fibroids after having the IUD inserted in me! 😭 No one is talking about this!
Wishing you all the all best Daye! Hoping for a speedy and painless recovery ❤
Thank you so much! 🥰
Thank you.
What insurance did you use? Mine got denied
Thanks for sharing ❤️
I thought the instructions said not to drink raspberry tea if you have fibroids? I started drinking it, but was scared when I read the directions so I stopped.
I have my surgery next month, I have one the size of a grapefruit and one the size of a small watermelon. I pray my surgery helps relieve my stomach pains and pressure. Thanks for the insight and what I am to expect, this is my very first surgery, ever.
Very informative video! Glad you found a good doctor that listened to you. Praying for a speedy recovery!🙏🏾
I had same problem with bleeding , and I had a Partial hysterectomy at a young age . I want to have more children.
Hi hun have you found out any info about Hifu. I really don’t want surgery either.
@@GDaEssence omg I’m so glad you found a solution to this horrid problem that we have been living with. Thanks for the info and advice. I will definitely look into this. Wishing you well on your new lease of life. Hopefully mine will come soon. X
@@ninaowusuh1418 a horrid problem indeed!! Of course we’ll continue to monitor our food intake, stay active and healthy and if surgery is the next best option, pray that all goes well! Keep a positive outlook! 💕
