  • Hey all.
Another video on the Ableton Push 3 controller. Today I'm concentrating on the 'Capture Button' feature which you can use to Capture any performances whilst playing around on the Push but did not press the Record button.
It's been a feature included in Live for a number of years now and other hardware vendors have included a dedicated Capture button in some of their products. However, this is the first time Ableton have included a dedicated Capture button in their Push controller.
Today I go over how you can use this and a couple of things to look out for.

Hi :) I am wondering if you know if there is a way to change the length of the capture feature? Sometimes it's 2 bars for me, then other times it's 4. I've looked in the manual and checked on various forums, to no avail.

Hi there. You can't change the capture length prior to recording. It basically captures the entire MIDI input for that track from the very start of you 'playing around'.
So if you had a drum loop that you were jamming to and that loop played for 84 bars, then after pressing Capture, your Captured events would be 84 bars in total. However, it seems the Push will only play the last 8 bars since it's assuming you're likely to want to capture the end of your jamming rather than the beginning (where you were probably just doodling around until you got into the groove).
Good thing is, you can adjust these settings to tell Live where to start playing from and for how many bars... Hope that helped.

Nice, but the audio is really terrible.

Yeah I know. Hopefully won't happen again as I'm using a different headset now... 👍

what is the name of the stand that your push 3 is on?

A company called Sequenz originally made this stand. It's very hard to get now (in Europe) and is over €300/$300...

I'm using a glass shelf on my top tier. Makes it easier to see stuff below. In my view this keyboard stand is beautiful. Fairly sturdy yet lightweight.
There's a keyboard made by Vox called the Continental 73. Looks like a nice bit of kit and apparently comes with a stand.

This stand is more or less an exact copy of the Sequenz version but 1/3 of the price. This is the version I have...

      Three caveats though
      1. You have the Vox branding on the side of the keyboard rest
      2. It's made for a 73key keyboard (but should accomodate a 76 key just fine. However, 88 keys will likely not fit
      3. The bars in the middle of the keyboard rest are meant to screw directly into the Continental 73. I removed them and used the Sequenz keyboard holders. (sequenzmusicgear.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/detail_k-holder02-3.jpg ). Not sure if you can even get these any more...
