Hi Guys This is a good comparison and well worth watching. From what I know Mahou has two variants in Spain one is called “Clasica” and is green branded/labelled and seen a lot in bottle the other is Mahou five star (Cinco Estrellas) which is what mostly available on draught although a lot of places will offer both. The UK 5.1% variant was a proprietary brew but not viable to keep brewing long term. They have now switched UK supply to the 4.8% “Clasica” recipe so it’s easier to meet growing demand now InBev are on with distribution. To say InBev had nothing to do with it is not strictly true as InBev’s increased distribution demand played some part in the decision, although it was Mahou San Miguel who made the overall decision. The Clasica is not that much different in taste other than it’s a little smoother with a little less bite on the finish but the slightly lower ABV makes it a very popular seller in Spain especially with locals. I’ve drank loads of Clasica in the past in Spain and although never had the 4.8% keg or bottle in the UK yet I do have a keg of the 4.8% loaded, ready for the weekend. As for the Pro machines the temperature is nothing but an estimation. As you know I have two machines and one is always above the set temperature by up to 4c depending on what it’s set to. My other machine is currently a nightmare. It’s taking 2-3 days to chill down to anything below 3c. There is loads of space around it and this has only started to happen with the last firmware for some reason or another. The good thing is the beer is always very cold from this machine, saying this it’s always been in the cold side of the tolerance so I always use this machine for lagers and ciders. Hopefully the next firmware sorts this long cooling issue though as 3 days to chill down to 1c is definitely not right. Hops you all have a great weekend. Joff 👍👍🍺🍺
Fantasic write up as always. Yes one of my Pros keeps gaining temperature I think where I got 3 in a row though maybe. As compared to others I been lucky 2 be honest
Great review guys! I always found Mahou a bit salty, however I always had it after other beers. Maybe that ruined my pallete. I must try again on its own.
