If you're using somebody else's listings to sell similar you're probably picking up a bunch of extra trash, you need to look at every facet of it carefully... which may be why you're ending up with free shipping it was on the last sell similar you used...
Shipping supplies are expensive, so I always add in a little bit extra to pay for those costs.. especially if you're popping for stay flat mailers, those don't grow on trees.. I also use those non padded eBay envelopes, to keep everything clean fresh & dry..
Even if it's an item I've boxed... the weather's getting wacky who knows if the mail carriers actually going to walk up to the porch or leave it sitting in the snow next to a box at the side of the road..
The more carefully packaged the better your feedback will reflect that...

Thanks for this video. I'm just about ready to get started selling vintage ads. However, I have to order some supplies. You mentioned backing boards. Could you please give a reference where you get these? I'm already set to order some clear envelopes and rigid mailers. One other thing. So far, all the people I've watched in this genre are all selling ads from LIFE magazine. The vintage magazines I have are smaller sizes, in the vein of National Geographic, of which I have some going back to the 1920s; but most of what I have are in the 1970s-1990s, I think.
I took apart a 1955 Coronet magazine, also a smaller-sized magazine, for practice. I had to look up foxing, as I'd never heard of it before. This one is fairly yellowed, and sadly, some of it has what appears to be water damage; so, those are toast. A couple of the ads have what could be very light water damage, but not very noticeable, so I don't know if they would pass muster or not.
It also has some articles written by famous people of the time, like Judy Garland and a photo/article by Perry Como. The ad with Bob Hope in it has some water damage, I think. I still separated it so I can give it a better look under better lighting. Someone else I've watched said that you can also sell the articles, if it has enough interest, but I wouldn't know what to sell them for or how exactly to package them.
Speaking of pricing, I really appreciate your explaining your pricing and shipping. My only question is: because my magazines are so much smaller, I'm guessing pricing on these might be more around the $10.00 range? Does that sounds about right?
As far as ending/selling similar, I've heard it's best to end those listings that are at the end of their 30 days and are about ready to relist on their own anyway. I guess there's a way to figure that out.
I will definitely be subscribing and checking your your Print Ads 101 (or whatever it is called). Thanks again. I hope this made sense.

The best way to end and sell similar. Only end listings that are ending that day anyways then sell similar. If you do it this way it's basically the same as letting it relist itself except they become new listings again instead of relistings.

You want to wait until AFTER it relists automatically to end and sell similar. When it's about to end, ebay automatically sends out reminders to other interested buyers letting them know the item is about to end. If you end it before that time, you're losing out on those potential buyers. Only downside is it counts against you're number of listings available for the month. If you don't have a store that may be a problem, but I've got so many it doesn't matter.

@@avantgardener6630 This will not solve the problem he's having of using up his quota of monthly free listings. If it relists automatically, that using one listing, and if he then ends it and relists it, that's another listing--so he's using up 2 monthly listing allotments for one item.

Ending and sell similar does not completely fool ebay into taking it as a spanking new listing. They can still tell somehow, i heard it was because of using same pics, but I cant be sure about that, but they do know. It gets a bump, but not as big as a fresh listing.
When a listing gets old and stale, despite using end/sell similar ebay will make it end and disappear just like any other old stale set and forget listings. It wont save you from that. I had a lot of old listings "disappear" which had routinely been end/sell similar items
Ultimately they are still stale listings and your store click through ranking will drop and that will affect you algorithm

and people on a few of my facebook groups didn't believe me when I claims that my listings were just disappearing. They claimed it must just be user error from doing end listing/sell similars. I had a big lull with Ebay for most of the first of this year and wasn't doing really any new listing other than sell similar on items when they were less then 12 hours from ending. I just started getting back into listing due to to well...needing money tbh and as soon as I starting going through inventory realized that like probably 50-75 or more of my listings over the course of like 7 months were just GONE. I've spent so much time completely relisting tons of stuff from scratch. Sooooo frustrating.

@adammonahan687 You claim this is false, but I can confirm after testing that the original commenter is correct. Ending and sell similar will lower your sale conversion rate long term if you are not making drastic changes that would cause it to actually sell faster. I can go further and explain why if you would like. Short-term, you might get a boost. But over time, you will have to continue to end and sell similar more and more and more to obtain the same results. I do not recommend these practices to any eBay seller. It may provide short term gains but long term if not done effectively will hurt your store. We have been there and now we are completely organic and operating much better. I can speak from our experience.

A few months ago I was looking at my listings and I noticed that some of my listings said Free Shipping. I didn't even have a free shipping choice in my business policies at the time nor did I offer it in my listings. So I changed them to what I was using at the time - Priority. By the end of the day they had changed back to Free Shipping. I again changed them and this time they stayed as I wanted. So check you listings carefully. I would have though it was my error had I not changed them back and it again changed to free. I also put in a 14 day return policy/buyers pays for return shipping. I recently had a return request I see my listing said buyer does not accept returns - but of course ebay's policies override that and Ebay gave me choices to allow buyer to keep item as well as refund, or refund when buyer returns it, etc..all options would cost me money. I messaged buyer (as one of the options) and told her to return it and I would refund. I will refund original shipping with the price of the item. My question is, will ebay refund my FVF and taxes? I never had a refund before - buyer decided they didn't like the item!

    • @litestreamer
      @litestreamer Год назад +1

On the general listings page it says I have FREE RETURNS but I do not, buyer must pay for returns, and it says so on the particular item listing page, so I do not know why ebay says that. If it comes up as a dispute, you can bet ebay will have to cover the cost of that or any return.
