I'm a new seller and started off with a bang and then summer hit and nothing. You explained more than anybody I have listened to. So easy to understand. Thank you for all your time
I have actually tried to do this a number of times & it's made no difference at all. My main problem with selling anything on eBay is the lack of views, there are very few buyers compared to a couple of years ago. I looked the other day at random things, and a couple of years ago on eBay with say women's shoes, there was page after page of sold items in that category for that day. The other day I checked & it had 1 page with the same date. eBay needs to start getting people back to the platform, as some sellers will only stay on eBay so long as the buyers are around. Thank you, Don. Charles in the UK
@@showgirlsaroundtheworldada4484 Tried that so many times, but nothing is still working even now. I think that sellers have left and are not coming back to buy as buyers. eBay needs to do something before everyone leaves the site.
I'm now in a habit of refreshing my listings every week, and definitely see an uptick in sales. Full time reselling means full time work on your business. Thank you for the reminder that we all need. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge and look forward to watching your next video.
When my sales slowed when the war broke out, I took the extra time I had to fill in all the recommended item specifics. There were thousands. What a boring and laborious task. However, I believe it helped. And what I also discovered was that I had hundreds of listings that eBay threw into the wrong category when they did their adjustment in October. Those listings were most likely as good as invisible. Some people will say that buyers don't search by these specifics. They may be right. But what you've said, Don, is something I've always suspected: eBay may bury the listings that they don't feel are as "complete." In fact, why wouldn't they? It's an algorithm. It's designed to play the odds on matching buyers with sellers.
I kid you not this really really works... I had an item that was sitting there for about 3 months with like 3 views, but everyone else's was selling.. So I did exactly what you said I ended it and "sold as similar" i did that lastnight at like 1:30 in the morning, and when I woke up about 8:30 ..it had sold!! 😊👍 Thanks so much for this great tip! Also some of my other items that I sold as similar and ended now have more views in one day than they have had in 3 months! Thanks again! 👍👏😊
As a follow up to yesterdays comment pertaining to four hours on "sell similar" refreshing. Just "do it", it has worked once again. In less than 24 hours, we have sold a few items that were being ghosted, no doubt about it. We have just sent out nearly 100 offers since completing the refresh process. These are similar results when this was done at the end of October, early November of last year. Don, you're the best. Thanks for providing actionable content.
Thank you for sharing. I refreshed a few of my listings and after two weeks of no sales, I have finally sold something. I stopped listing because we are in the process of moving. After watching this video, I decided to refresh a few listings just as kind of a test and sure enough it worked.
One thing to be careful with on ending & sell similar are those where you are selling multiple quantities or have variants & some of that has sold. What happens is that is relisted at the FULL quantity you started with. So if you have a listing where you started with 10 items & have sold 3, if you forget to adjust the quantity down to 7 when you relist it as sell similar, it will relist at 10, not 7. (if you still have your full quantity available, then there are no issues) Same is you have 5 variants & have sold 2, all 5 will be relisted. So what we do is end these types of listing separately from the rest & then individually save as draft & then edit as needed (qty can be edited much easier than if your have variants & can be done on the sell similar screen).
Don, thanks once again. We just completed doing this and sadly wasting four hours as opposed to listing. We did this back in October as after that horrible update and it worked great. Last week we noticed a drastic decrease in sales since November and began to wonder why. This video was incredibly helpful and timely. On our to do list will be a weekly repeat of this process and more if needed. Starting with the older listings as oppose to highest price was very helpful. Convinced more than ever now that ghosting is taking place. After finishing this process a few sales occurred with the older items and many more offers. Will now commence a two day sale. You're the best.
This was great Don, I think you covered this earlier in a video, but it’s a great succinct refresher. Appreciate it, I’m sure going to try this, the sales are pretty flat for many of us. Thanks again!
I'm going to give this a try. I always have regular sales however the majority of the stuff that sells on eBay is the the newest stuff listed within the past month. I used to think it was because I have been doing a better job of buying items that people want but always found it strange that the items were moving on Poshmark that had been on eBay for a year.
I've tried the "end listing, sell similar strategy" on 200 listings at a time and it did nothing different that I noticed. But last night I did that with only 10 things and 3 have sold since. Crazy! Haha

This technique of selling similar works best if your listing new items daily, even if it's only a handful of listings a day. Selling similar does not count toward listing new items. It's only helping refresh your already listed items. The combination of listing additional items in your store and selling similar on older items you already have listed is where the magic happens.

Hi thanks for the tips, I have some sold items on my active listing so I have to go in manually n pick the sell simular listings. Any way to clean them off of there. Also I went in n ended first then went into ended and picked items then went to sell simular. Works the same correct. Thanks Cindy
When you end listing & do sell similar, do you only end items that have been listed for a specific amount of time? I was told it’s best to only end & sell similar items that have been listed for 6 months or more! The rational I was given Is that anything less than 6 months will impact your analytics negatively. I’m wondering how it makes sense to list & leave items until they do sell…if your paying .35$ for each listing every month & then an additional .30-.35$ when the item sells your potentially ending in the red or at a loss every time it takes awhile for your item to sell. The only way I can see to offset this is to list every day so those items that do sell quickly offset your losses. I’d appreciate your thoughts. I do agree that items w/o complete item specifics get ghosted by eBay in searches!
If this is true, and I am not saying it is not, it means that eBay is actively preventing sales on their own platform. They are purposely hurting buyers, sellers, and themselves. That is just mind boggling....
I fill in as many item specifics as I can, but there are so many ridiculous ones, especially with jewelry. I roll all of my listings through sell similar. I tried a sale once, in the category in my store that sells the most, and did not sell a single item in that category during the sale.
I spoke to ebay about slow sales, they said the issue is more sellers are issuing promoted listings and this has caused many existing sellers to contact them regarding such slow sales. Good luck everyone xx
..hey buddy, I'm new to this (with loads to purge -thanks to Spring!)... can you have a print on demand and a standard account in one? ' also, what do I select when im offered three choices for 'cookies'..??!
This will be great data and I appreciate you showing the results! I’ve been slowly adding the recommendations and oh boy it’s a long process but I bet it does have some affect on where your listing falls. Great video! New subscriber 😊
Thank you for this video. I thought it was just me with slow sales. I checked last years sales and March was my slowest month. I had a big jump in April and then it leveled out for the summer.
I felt like my sales was horrible for the first quarter this yr, however looking back to last yr my sales are up 43% over first quarter last yr. So I am not doing as bad as I thought!! Keep trying, keep listing, its the best we can do!!.
I tried your method of ending & relisting a couple of years ago - worked great! Lots of sales the next day. Yesterday, I tried it again. Nothing. Crickets. I know this video is old and you probably won't see my comment. But in case you do, HELP !!!
i wonder why. probably because many sellers are selling used junk for way over retail price. do they seem to think they can use the old scheme/scam of blaming it on inflation? ebay was supposed to be a flea market where you can get a used item at half the price. not anymore. most people buy new on amazon because its cheaper, you get real warranty, and you dont pay for shipping. the sellers thought their customers are stupid. now it's costing them everything. once you lose a customer, you lose them on the entire platform forever.
how do you make sure you don't list the same thing twice..I know ebay will block a duplicate listing, but it might let it through if the price is different. any tips to avoid having to cancel a sale due to double-listing?
So you run that sale for 3 days. Then, in 3 days, you will run a different sale on a different group of items? If I’m understanding, you pretty much run a sale constantly, but will be different items and then recycle through the whole store?
How do you feel about doing sell similar on the items ending soon that ebay will relist. Do you think it is better to do the sell similar or does it actually hurt not letting ebay relist and process these from time to time.
Do sales only work if you have a lot of followers? I have the first tier of EBAY store, so I do not have that option. I am wondering if it is worth it if you only have a handful of followers right now? Thanks for help from anyone who knows.
I just ended and did sell similar on 2600+ listings then activated 30% sale on 2200+ of them. I have a couple questions. Do you have video showing traffic growth based on this method? Also is it possible to end/sell similar on more than 200 listings at a time? Thank you Don! I've followed you for a while but I think this might be my first time commenting. I love the way your videos are always clear and quick to the point without bs! Please keep up the good work!
No, it does not work the same. Sell similar posts the item as a new listing for 24 hrs and gives it a new item number. Relist keeps all the old data and does none of what sell similar does.
it worked the first few weeks but sales have severely tapered down as the weeks progressed (now on my 4th week of doing this). Other youtuber/ebayers have said the same has happened to them
You have to sell similar. Relisting won't refresh your listing but sell similar will. It will give you a new item number like it's a brand new listing.
One concern I have is if I end all my listings and then sell similar, I then lost the date of when I actually listed the item. So, when I try to create a sale on items, say, over 120 days, I can't remember or see what is what.
That's one reason we put our location numbers in our titles. We can instantly see what something was listed by our number so it doesn't matter that we lose the list date on eBay.
I use alternative websites to boost sales. Unfortunately most if what I sell just so happens to be high end trading cards. So ebay is the most trusted. Also sell similar.
please help me!!!! my sales went from 2300 to 2600 a week ..consistently for 8 months ...and then BAM! overnight, nothing and it's been two weeks. I'm so angry
If I try to do a copy on the previous sale, it tells me the item numbers don't match anything. Because of selling simular they have all changed. So, how do I do that without haveing to start everything all over again?
I started my Ebay store in 2018, I've just been selling off mostly collectibles and toys. I had good sales the first few years, and I've only had a few bad issues with buyers. I still dont understand why people dont leave feedback no matter what i do, but oh well. I have noticed my sales go down drastically, and even when i send offers, they dont pay for several days, or they counteroffer a rediculously low amount :( I try to keep my listings refreshed, and i send coupons and have sales....i still get messages asking if I'll take less, and shipping costs are higher, so I'm trying to at least break even on profits.... Its all been very frustrating just for the past year trying to make any money at all :( Sorry for the rant, but i dont have anyone to talk to about this stuff :(
Never try to make extra profit on shipping. Maybe up to a dollar at most. Customers aren't stupid and neither is eBay you will still have to pay the fees on the total cost of the item and shipping combined. As far as free shipping goes, you don't want to do best offer at the same time because your legs will be cut twice. It should be best offer or free shipping but not both. You have to decide what's best for your business but consider free returns instead of free shipping on First Class items but not priority because it will get way too expensive.
My impressions/ page view charts bear this out. In the days following those numbers doubled at least. Watching to see how it goes back down to baseline. While I had a few sales clearly linked to sell similar / sale generally my sales didn’t follow. That’s on me as many of the older items that languished in the first place did so because they niche or just not quality items. I may run an experiment to focus on clearly quality pieces that have been out there for a while and track the results. Lesson: There is no substitute for quality items. This technique won’t work miracles with lower demand collectibles.
💯 and ebay gets more like that every day, gotta have sought after items, thats all there is to it. Gone are the days of being able to sell almost anything.
I’m getting buyers complaining about MY shipping costs. I’ve found that buyers think I can control those costs. I try to explain the things I CAN control with shipping and what I cannot, but I’m not sure it always computes. My husband told me he once thought sellers could rip him off on shipping! Anything I ship to California (from MO) is a fortune and let’s face it, we all get lots of CA sales. Anyone have any suggestions?
If I list an item where the buyer pays shipping, and the weight and shipper are figured, then the cost will depend on the buyer's location from you. If you have a store and buy the shipping label on eBay you will get a discount off what the buyer pays. Of course, the buyer pays more if it's Priority rather than First Class, if using USPS. I have several multiple item listings that are "free shipping", and I figure the cost into the price. Yes, sales to California are a little more for First Class. I accept sales from Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands too, and get quite a few, and they always will cost me more, but I can still use First Class USPS, and I have the cost figured in. On larger items or ones that weigh more than a pound, I always specify Priority Mail, and have the buyer pay shipping. Sometimes I use a flat shipping charge on a listing, like $10 or $15, as long as I know it will go for that or less, and that way the buyer will know anyone pays the same.
*All who read my comment !!!!!!!!! BEFORE you will delete items SEE IF YOU HAVE ENOUGH !!!FREE POSTING ITEMS FOR THAT MONTH!!!!!! OTHERWISE eBay will charge you $0.30 for each "sell similar" item. I made a mistake and eBay charged me almost $70 for 200 items*
I do not have a store, if I end a listing to do this then what you are saying is that I will be charged a fee? is it a flat .30 cents to end and relist? will I be charged? Thank you for your post.
Great video, a bit over my head. Anyway you could do a video on how to bulk end listing sell similar, say for 100 items at a time? Please and thank you
Our current amount of listings we can run on eBay is 9,000,000 or $150,000,000. They base your totals on length of time on the site, and your sales from what I've seen. If you are doing well, and have had no issues simply contact eBay, and with all luck they will raise your limits.
Why isn’t Ebay advertising like Amazon? Every fifteen minutes I see an Amazon commercial. I have never seen eBay’s. No wonder nobody visits that site it’s forgotten

Hi thanks for the tips, I have some sold items on my active listing so I have to go in manually n pick the sell simular listings. Any way to clean them off of there. Also I went in n ended first then went into ended and picked items then went to sell simular. Works the same correct. Thanks Cindy
Ever end up with a duplicate of a listing after doing sell similar? That happened to me, so delete after?
Thanks so much for actually walking us thru. I was going to ask you to do this. Thank you!!
Thank you for the honest information. I greatly appreciate your channel!
If this is true, and I am not saying it is not, it means that eBay is actively preventing sales on their own platform. They are purposely hurting buyers, sellers, and themselves. That is just mind boggling....
How much do pay in listings each month?
I have ended and sell similar and just relist … no sales and I get views and some even sell. 👍🏻
Another terrific video with great content. Thanks very much.
Looking good Don. Thanks for the video!
OMG! This worked , thanks so much for sharing 🙏
I'm small but recommended is not effecting sales (not hidden)
Super helpful video Don. Thank you.
Thank You for your very helpful information.
Do you refresh the entire store? Or just some items? What’s the most effective way to refresh the whole store?
I do the same with sell similar, works great! Thanks Don!
Thank you so much. Very good information!
will this affect if my item as variety?
Im happy to find your page thanks
Thank you for this video. I thought it was just me with slow sales. I checked last years sales and March was my slowest month. I had a big jump in April and then it leveled out for the summer.
I felt like my sales was horrible for the first quarter this yr, however looking back to last yr my sales are up 43% over first quarter last yr. So I am not doing as bad as I thought!! Keep trying, keep listing, its the best we can do!!.
Thanks a lot for this, it helps a lot my eBay store.
I tried your method of ending & relisting a couple of years ago - worked great! Lots of sales the next day. Yesterday, I tried it again. Nothing. Crickets. I know this video is old and you probably won't see my comment. But in case you do, HELP !!!
Buyers don't like going on ebay much anymore. Ebay needs to bring buyers in
i wonder why. probably because many sellers are selling used junk for way over retail price. do they seem to think they can use the old scheme/scam of blaming it on inflation? ebay was supposed to be a flea market where you can get a used item at half the price. not anymore. most people buy new on amazon because its cheaper, you get real warranty, and you dont pay for shipping. the sellers thought their customers are stupid. now it's costing them everything. once you lose a customer, you lose them on the entire platform forever.
Do you still end and sell similar, if your item has a watcher, watchers?
Yes if they are old watchers. Meaning any offers sent or received have been expired.
how do you make sure you don't list the same thing twice..I know ebay will block a duplicate listing, but it might let it through if the price is different. any tips to avoid having to cancel a sale due to double-listing?
How do you get your seller hub to look like that? Mine I have to do one at time. I do have the free account
It’s definitely better to relist them yourself bc when eBay does it, it doesn’t move it back to the top it just restarts the time
Do sales only work if you have a lot of followers? I have the first tier of EBAY store, so I do not have that option. I am wondering if it is worth it if you only have a handful of followers right now? Thanks for help from anyone who knows.
Thanks for sharing Don
What if you have several or more Watchers? Should you end/sell similar those as well?
You'll lose your watchers but if they haven't made the purchase it's likely they aren't going to.
Do you do free 30 days shipping and return?
what if you don't have a store?
I just ended and did sell similar on 2600+ listings then activated 30% sale on 2200+ of them. I have a couple questions. Do you have video showing traffic growth based on this method? Also is it possible to end/sell similar on more than 200 listings at a time? Thank you Don! I've followed you for a while but I think this might be my first time commenting. I love the way your videos are always clear and quick to the point without bs! Please keep up the good work!
Thanks for video and information
Excellent video, thank you.
Thanks Don better to run sales shorter periods of time for algorithm?
One question: I end listings but instead using Sell Similar as you mentioned as just do Relist,, does this works the same? Thanks!
Other youtuber/ebayers have said the same has happened to them
Does End and Relist work or do you need to do a sell similar?
You have to sell similar. Relisting won't refresh your listing but sell similar will. It will give you a new item number like it's a brand new listing.
One concern I have is if I end all my listings and then sell similar, I then lost the date of when I actually listed the item. So, when I try to create a sale on items, say, over 120 days, I can't remember or see what is what.
That's one reason we put our location numbers in our titles. We can instantly see what something was listed by our number so it doesn't matter that we lose the list date on eBay.
I put the listed date at the very bottom of the description along with the item location.
Just use the item sku. I put the date I purchased, the date I listed and the inventory information there.
I know this is a year old but can you dive more into your pricing 3 x perceived value. Thanks
If I try to do a copy on the previous sale, it tells me the item numbers don't match anything. Because of selling simular they have all changed. So, how do I do that without haveing to start everything all over again?
Yip, I got that also. I ended up just making a new sale.
I started my Ebay store in 2018, I've just been selling off mostly collectibles and toys. I had good sales the first few years, and I've only had a few bad issues with buyers. I still dont understand why people dont leave feedback no matter what i do, but oh well.
I have noticed my sales go down drastically, and even when i send offers, they dont pay for several days, or they counteroffer a rediculously low amount :(
I try to keep my listings refreshed, and i send coupons and have sales....i still get messages asking if I'll take less, and shipping costs are higher, so I'm trying to at least break even on profits....
Its all been very frustrating just for the past year trying to make any money at all :(
Sorry for the rant, but i dont have anyone to talk to about this stuff :(
Keep strong and don't give your stuff away. You know it's worth. Stand your ground.
Great advice
What's better high listing price free shipping or low listing price higher shipping
Thank you
Great 👍 thank you 😊
What do you mean ….3X price structure?
Sometimes I use a flat shipping charge on a listing, like $10 or $15, as long as I know it will go for that or less, and that way the buyer will know anyone pays the same.
thank you very much❤
*All who read my comment !!!!!!!!!
Please and thank you
I already have several that show the whole process step by step.
How do you do 10,000 item sales? I am limited to 500 item sales max. Is it a store level thing?
Our current amount of listings we can run on eBay is 9,000,000 or $150,000,000. They base your totals on length of time on the site, and your sales from what I've seen. If you are doing well, and have had no issues simply contact eBay, and with all luck they will raise your limits.
Why isn’t Ebay advertising like Amazon? Every fifteen minutes I see an Amazon commercial. I have never seen eBay’s. No wonder nobody visits that site it’s forgotten
I hate resetting the start date of items with sell similar
