This cop is a rare model of how police should be. Impressive and i hope people who go into law enforcement in the future take notes from this man! His judge of character, and the way he treats people is inspiring!
The officer is a "rare model" of what police officers aren't there for. They are NOT your shrink, social worker or babysitter so stop being ridiculous!
Growing up in Albuquerque myself, he is honestly probably the least these cops are worried about. Probably just thought he was going to be able to get away with it and got caught, doesn’t seem like the usual New Mexico craziness.
@@deusvult2302the guy stole from a greedy big corporation, he didn’t murder someone. It’s a case by case situation that these officers have this demeanor. There definitely should be more officers like this 😊
The cop is playing the good cop. He doesn't have the guy's interest at heart. He's just trying to gather as much incriminating evidence to forwarded to the district attorney. Never talk to the police without the presence of a lawyer
The cop knew everything lol he hit every incriminating point that he confirmed via the meeting with the manager. His tone is corporate and fake. They laughing in his face, knowing he a dummy and some fall for this. Strange.
I’ve been in this spot before, I was fortunate enough that my boss didn’t call the cops and gave me another chance. I was a struggling addict and I was trying to provide for my family, I worked at wal mart distribution center when I did it. I turned my life around, I have a great job and I provide for my kids comfortably. I hope he can turn his life around too. A thief is a thief, but people DO change, they just have to want to change.
I'll be completely honest with you, if I was confronted with anyone who says "I'll be completely honest with you" as many times as that cop did I would have demanded a lawyer.
This has got to be the most professional conversation between a cop and a suspect I’ve ever seen in my life. I really honestly wish that man the best. He literally seems like a totally decent guy who just did something stupid. We all do something dumb as hell at one point in our life. This guy will live a successful life. I know it!!!!
A video like this can ruin his life .. criminals need to pay for their crimes .. but I think privacy is a human right.. we all need second chances and non of us perfect.. yet a few minutes video on social media can make people judge us for the rest of our lives .. people need to stop riding high horses and remember they aren't so perfect. . personally I think the biggest criminals are monopoly companies, politicians, lobbyists, bankers, billionaires.. etc.
Apparently the temptation is too great & some can't control their impulses. You know what they say about greed though... it's the root of evil. Sorry I just can't stand a thief.
It's mostly their character, if not at work where everything is right in front of them, then they'll do it later at a less convenient location. They cannot help themselves, even if they don't need the items they steal, they do it just to have or to trade for something else
As a former security supervisor we watch everything and Amazon will let you steal to build a case on you. On top of that cameras are everywhere like come on y’all.
I worked for a small retailer 25 stores and they had LP. They would put stuff out like cheap $50 watch or something in precarious places and employees always pocketed them and were fired. It's dumb you make more than that in a day and throw it away for some bs.
Interrogation tactic. The cop isn’t his friend, the cop is trying to get him to confess so they can have hard proof evidence. I would question whether or not his stories are even true.
Honestly the most amazing part is that the suspect was treated with respect and humility the entire time, Nice job Sheriffs, and Lost Prevention department.
that's what happens when you listen & do as told. Even if you aren't in the wrong just listen, get it over with and fight it in court later lmao. yes there's bad cops but 90% of stops would go much better by just listening.

Well to be working at Amazon he is likely not making professional wages..... Yeah for some people it will not matter but any good job will likely not want him because they can bet he will steal from them too. People don't realize how easy it is to end up broke.
People literally take these jobs to do exactly what he was doing. Resell the stolen goods. That's the only reason he probably took the job. There's an entire culture around these kind of jobs and doing this type of stuff. Facebook marketplace and any other selling site will have a bunch of these people on there.
@@Jamesthor Why would he want the job to resell the stuff instead of just walking into stores and steaking the stuff from them instead? His odds of having more time and chance to get away are much better if people don't know who he is than if he is at work right?
I'm sure that Amazon is thrilled that this is being publicized; they'll probably show it at the next warehouse meeting. Now the employees know that the company presses charges.
This officer needs all the credit, what a well spoken intelligent & outgoing person. Very relatable and what all law enforcement should look to be like, very impressed way he handled this interview 👏
Well maybe it is even simpler. Alex wanted the items but did not want the problems that came with those items. It is not possible Alex stole and remembers stealing yet stole over and over yet feels: embarrassment, fear, and regret. Just not possible.
Sadly I had a situation like this, I made a bad decision and stole from a great job I had. The saddest part of being fired from the job, was my bosses comment to me... he said “you hurt my heart, I treated you like my kids” that killed me. I was messed up on pain killers, not an excuse. But f I didn’t get fired for stealing, I would have been dead now... people make bad mistakes sometimes, it doesn’t mean people can’t do better.... no one knows what’s going on in someone’s life, don’t judge, never look down on someone unless you’re helping them up.
We all do dumb sht in our lives we just suffer different consequences. Getting caught stealing motivated me to be successful because I believed I could make on my own what I was willing to steal for to get. Because of the industry I’m in we deal with a lot un unusable extruded aluminum and years ago I took a bunch of what we call cutoff aluminum and took it to a scrap yard because I was trying to impress friends with a wad of cash. It was maybe $800. Back then it was a big deal. Boss knew someone took it, called around to all the scrap yards and eventually found out it was me and I was fired. Big lesson Learned. 30 years later I have my own glass company and I’ve had to deal with the exact same thing. Because I understand that petty theft doesn’t really come from a place of hate or malice I’ve never reported theft to police because I refuse to ruin someone’s life over petty thief. We have a process and My permanent guys call it the walk of shame. Lol. Having to go into the shop, collect their tools while me and my business partner are standing over them and walking them to their car after is pretty embarrassing because it’s what happened to me and I never wanted to feel like that again. The next glass company I worked for I saved every penny I could and after 5 years I started my own business. I’m actually good friends with my old boss and we laugh about now because out of everyone he’s ever employed I would be the one he would have said will never amount to anything. Bad people keep making the same mistakes. Good people grow from bad mistakes
@The Glass Master going to jail one time was all I needed.. stupid kid then, made me a better person today. Luckily, my case was sealed (I was 18). The judge told me "I'll see you again" as I told him, no sir you won't...and I've never been back. Sometimes we need a kick, to start us better.

And when they let you go, they pretended that you didn't steal anything, didn't they give you a theft record or did something appear on your criminal record?
I mean, they couldnt prove the watch even with video and i highly doubt those were his first two things he's ever taken from there. Sounds like the workers have a little internal ring going on. IF he would have kept the package about 3 inches lower, he'd be fine.
Does having cameras in Walmart stop people from stealing? Why would Amazon fulfillment center be any different? People will try to take advantage anywhere
In the old days, before cameras were everywhere, an issue like employee theft wasn't news worthy. Unless you were in a small town, there was no write-up in the local paper or a featured story on the evening news. In some cases, if the thief agreed to certain terms, the judge would seal or expunge the crime from their record. Now that cops are wearing body cams and employers have more surveillance cameras, employee theft is being broadcast on a much wider scale. The Amazon employee's image and this story will live in perpetuity. There will be no discreet second chance. Something to consider before you commit a crime - no matter how petty.
@@OtisMoto people need to think twice. The internet has changed everything; including the way crime is documented and reported. Once your image/information is online, it has a life of its own.

As someone who got out of working in law enforcement, and saw so many coworkers have the same robotic power tripping authority or better than you attitudes, it is a rarity but refreshing to see a deputy actually treating a suspect with humanity and understanding. No unnecessary directives, repeating obvious laws, or giving the same automatic BS responses an d tip toeing over civil rights. I can tell you with 100% certainty that the camera/security systems Amazon warehouses have recognizes the barcodes of the items before you even scan them.. When you pick something up, the system picks it up as well and knows what and the quantity of what you are holding, you are not going to steal from that warehouse. You may get away with it for a few days but the second that barcode stopped being tracked it set off several layers of redundancy in their system and guess what, it stops with you and you have to explain that..
BCSO resisted body cams until they were required by law to have them, so they bought low quality gear just to comply with the law. They don't care about the quality.
My older brother is a AP Supervisor for Home Depot Distribution. The things he has seen from not just "customers" but employees blows my mind. All police interrogations, whether on the street or on the beat, should work like this one. The offender should remember his employment tenure and had an employment discharge instead of an arrest, for the rest of his life.
We have to remember that professionalism is not something to be surprised about. It's to be expected. Just sad when other officers lower that bar by playing Judge, jury and executioner. Lots people don't understand a cop job is to primarily to de-escalate the situation and only use aggression both in tone or and action when absolutely necessary. It's not a big dick contest
First place, just stop taking sh$t thinking nobody's watchin'. I always taught my girls, when you get the money, you can pay for the items. Now they make more money than me & gladly pull it out.
I worked at an Amazon warehouse for years. It is near impossible to steal as a picker. They will catch you, but other non-direct roles are a little harder to track down. I came across thousands of dollars of empty boxes stashed in weird places in my time there. I report it, but mostly the managers just do not give a damn. That pick station is one of the old fashioned ones, BTW.
You can tell he’s mad at himself and regrets what he did..I hope he’s able to look back at this as a learning experience and hope he has a good life going forward
There is no going forward with a theft arrest. People can't just decided they did not get arrested and if convicted of theft they can't just decide to do whatever they want. They need to be employed and he is broke enough to be working for Amazon.....

If people only realized how cameras are now everywhere and how they work. Way back in the early 90s i helped wire up security cameras at a Sears store and it was amazing the detail they could see back then. Technology has obviously gotten much better today. If you are working in retail or just a customer thinking you are gonna shoplift and get away with it, just realize you are being recorded. When you step out of your house today you are being recorded everywhere you go.

That cop needs to get a new body cam off amazon, lens is a mess.
🥶😬
Go buy him one, then
Y'all don't be idiots c'mon the cop should just ask the worker to pocket one for him free.99
Could be the lighting and also officers don’t buy their own gear , sometimes they may purchase a gun but it’s usually city or state property.
BCSO resisted body cams until they were required by law to have them, so they bought low quality gear just to comply with the law. They don't care about the quality.
My older brother is a AP Supervisor for Home Depot Distribution. The things he has seen from not just "customers" but employees blows my mind. We live in an age where everything is being watched, and MOST major companies will allow you to continue to steal JUST to allow it to add up to a felonious charge.
If it seems easy, its probably got holes. Its not worth the blow back! I pray he learns and grows. We've all made bad choices, just dont let those choices become habits!

He already screwed anyway. His job pays poor and getting a real job is difficult and expensive!!!!! Not a simple solution to a very basic income issue.

Why let them steal so much they can’t get back? Just fire them ? Does insurance only pay on felony cases?

All police interrogations, whether on the street or on the beat, should work like this one. The offender should remember his employment tenure and had an employment discharge instead of an arrest, for the rest of his life.
I suppose that the guys who did the Lufthansa heist, also made a mistake.
What a great cop! The way he handled the whole situation is simply amazing! A real professional.
Yea he's good at manipulation
Much respect to this officer!! He was so respectful!!
We have to remember that professionalism is not something to be surprised about. It's to be expected.
Just sad when other officers lower that bar by playing Judge, jury and executioner.

It's good interrogation tactics they teach. You make then feel like your they're friend, can open up to them so they can get you to talk.
Maybe they are all in the stealing and need to contact a bigger manager and company
If that's old fashioned I wonder what technology they have now? That seems like really high end technology

I know in God's eyes all sins are considered the same. In my human eyes, it's hard for me to look at it that way. To answer your question, if someone touched my kid, they would have a conversation with God as soon as I caught them.

Would be nice if this helped me get out of Walmart without the security guard bothering me.
Wish there was more, actually. In Korea they can track you from the crime scene to each block you passed, to every bus stop, directly to your home. That's why it's so safe there. Can literally leave laptops and other expensive things on a table, go to the bathroom and whatever without worrying.

As someone who used to work for Amazon (delivering) I dont feel even a little bad for him. Whenever there is a package missing from one of my routes they always look at the deliverymen first because "it was lost while we had it" when in reality someone in the warehouse stole it and I never once had the package. Sometimes I even have the packaging and its completely empty. And he couldn't even look in the dudes eyes once, no remorse.
Edit: I'm not shaming all of the warehouse workers ever so don't feel like I'm attacking you guys I know you all work hard but it did upset me every time I grabbed a package and the contents were completely empty. It's not even most of you but the ones who do it really bother me.

With the technology these warehouses have in place those security officers do very little except compiled what the technology does and provide to police... Big respect for this officer and his empathy towards the situation.
That's not "empathy", he's just acting like he's his friend to trick him into a confession. When someone says "I'm gonna be completely honest with you", they're usually lying - the cop said it about 100 times. :) A police officer who is hostile during an interrogation will never get a confession.
