IMO, King Gizz is the best current rock band in the world right now. They are constantly tackling different genres and pushing the limits of what a single band can do. Garage rock, psych rock, jazz, prog rock, dark-fantasy audiobook rock (I seriously don't know how else to describe Murder of the Universe, love that album), thrash metal, microtonal rock, psychedelic pop, and even hip-hop. And don't fret, I definitely missed some things. This new album, Omnium Gatherum, is their 20th studio album in half as many years. They released 5 albums alone in 2017 (one of which they released completely free and open source. Seriously, literally anyone is legally allowed to press it on vinyl and sell it. They also do this for a lot of their live albums.), and they are all good and completely different from each other. If you want to dive further into their discography, I recommend starting with albums like I'm In Your Mind Fuzz or Nonagon Infinity, and then branching out from there. All their KEXP performances are also great places to start IMO.
This drummer is indeed a cardio machine. One particular live performance of their song ",open water" featured him doing semiquavers at something like 110 BPM with his double kicks for six or seven minutes straight
Cavs is amazing, definitely a drummer to go in the history books. But credit is also due to their second drummer during Flying Microtonal Banana (up until 2020) Eric Moore, a second drummer that reflected Cavs. Both were matching machines that reflected each other. They are a must see for live performances!
@@prototypegamer2381 Eric and Cavs working together on crumbling castle and fishing for fishes are some of my favourite percussion performances ever. I miss Eric.
That last one is the most important of them all. Every single record is GOOD in all capitals at worst. By far the most over creative and over innovative in the best way possible
This recording was the first time the whole band was able to get together and play in the same room after the lockdowns. It definitely captures that energy.
The Gizz is just a feast for the ears. The gift that keeps giving. There discography is enormous and the musical stylings are all over the place but that is the best part. If you don't like the current Gizz, wait 3 months and you will get more and it will likely be something uniquely different. Absolute legends.
If you listen to any other album of theirs, beside their new one Omnium Gatherum, which features The Dripping Tap, make it Nonagon Infinity. It's the best encapsulation of what King Gizzard were capable of only six years ago! and it's a concept album that infinitely loops into itself, connecting the last track to the very first track, etc.
if you loved this, listen to Nonagon Infinity!! It's a whole album designed to flow as one unified thing and loop back into itself. Also Infest the Rats' Nest goes crazy hard
Dude you gotta listen to the rest of the album, such a good intro to the band because it covers their pretty broad variety of sound that they've cultivated over 20 albums
I thought for sure, when I saw this, that King Giz was a band you'd heard before as a rock fan. They're one of the best around today, really versatile but consistent as well, this song is exceptional, as is the album.
HELL YEAH! I’ve really been wanting you to react to King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. I hope you may actually react to some of their works soon as well such as I’m In Your Mind Fuzz, Nonagon Infinity, and Infest the Rats’ Nest
Man JD, I never thought I would see you reacting to KGATLW, thought I was dreaming when I saw the notification lol. I highly recommend checking out the rest of their discography. This band has tackled so many different sounds and genres that this 18 minute song doesn’t even begin to capture what this band can do. Welcome to the gizzverse, can’t wait to see what you listen to next🤘
you should definitely check out Head On/Pill from their album Float Along - Fill Your Lungs. previously their longest song before this one came out. 16 minutes of super catchy and fun psych rock and my personal favourite King Gizzard song.
I’m working my way back from this track as a 51 year old lover of Kraut rock… this tempo and attitude has all the love and devotion from the future past. Down the rabbit hole I go!
If you are impressed with the drums you would be thrilled to hear there used to be two drummers. I would recommend checking out some of their 2019 tour, there are solid recordings of the shows. Both drummers are absolutely incredible.
You should definitely dive into their discography, and take care to listen to full albums. Most of their albums can be considered one single piece of music. This latest album is one of the few where you can listen to most songs as individual pieces. Whatever you choose to explore I'll be here for it, you're in for a ride
Saw them last week at the Berkley Greek and not only did the drummer keep it up for 18mins of Dripping Tap (first song out the gate), he did for almost 3 hours with a 15min break. Never seen them before, but had a little education from a friend and from the moment Tap rocks, I had a shitting eating grin on my face all night. And influences!! It got so ridiculous I lost count. Am I dreaming? Lol, wasn’t expecting to you reacting to the Gizzes, they’re my fav band I would love so much if you went through their discography, it’s totally worth it and full of diversity
The guitar sounds so much like Arpeggiator by Fugazi. I love this track! I have all of their studio albums on vinyl and I'm happy to say I saw them live with the Murlocs on the Nonagon Infinity tour a few years back. I've been rocking' Gizz for almost a decade now and they keep delivering. Hard to say which album is my favorite but Sketches of Brunswick East might be - it's their jazzy album.
Speaking as someone who's favourite gig as a teen was Hawkwind, who used to lie on my back with my schoolmates and feel high with no drugs listening to Floyd, whose favoriite Talking Heads songs are the relentless ones on Remain in Light, who adores Radiohead but sometimes feels they could use a couple of up songs and who loves The Flaming Lips but wishes their singer was in tune.....King Gizz are my favourite band!

I’d give you a selection of albums that best encapsulates their sound, but I can’t. Just go for it, man. Start from I’m In Your Mind Fuzz, then Nonagon Infinity, then their 5 2017 albums, then choose your own adventure. Want the most garage-sounding garage rock this side of the MP3? 12 Bar Bruise and Head On/Pill. Want eco-socialist doom metal? Infest the Rats Nest. Want a full on dive into electronic psychedelia? Want to chill out after a hard day’s work? Paper Mache Dream Balloon, Quarters, and Sketches of Brunswick East should do you quite well. Want to do that while still looping right back around to the environmentalist messages? Fishing for Fishies. Want to listen to what Red Dead Redemption would sound like if it was made as a progressive folk album and came from Native American perspectives? Eyes Like the Sky. Full on prog? Polygondwanaland and Murder of the Universe are the detached and hideous takes on rock concept albums as they come respectively. Want massive dreamy soundscapes? Made in Timeland is as experimental as it gets. And if you want King Gizzard to make you a playlist of their own music for you? Oddments, Gumboot Soup and Omnium Gatherum. My lord, man. And that’s only their first 20 albums, which they swear they’re gonna make 20 more. I really hope you love them as much as we all do.
So when I finally got around to checking them out 3 weeks ago, first thing I did after listening to this album was make a playlist. I listened to a few samples and chose Willoughby Beach. Dripping Tap is definitely their most epic rock song to date. I'd say the first 14 minutes of Mind Fuzz come close. I know it's broken up into four songs, but it's essentially one long song with 4 acts. If they play Dripping Tap and then the opening tracks of Mind Fuzz back to back, you'd have a nonstop 30 minute barrage of kick ass rock n roll.

If you enjoyed that then you should definitely check out their discography. They often changes styles between albums. Everything from garage rock, psychedelic pop, prog, jazz, thrash metal, and electronica. Not sure I'd call this song of the year simply because it's a bit too long for most listeners, but it is a banger.
Please react to Nonagon Infinity/Infest The Rats Nest or Polygondwanaland by them!! All of their stuff is incredibly consistent but those are some stand outs for sure
I think their newest album Omnium Gatherum is actually a great first album to listen to from them. It has all sorts of different styles of songs and it provides a really broad look into the variety of their discography.
this album is the only album I have ever seen where they put the most gojira sounding thrash rock song ever and almost right after a rap song about a sorcerer. then I few tracks later a song about a fucking garden goblin

when I was younger in about 2011. my dad got tickets from a workmate to see 4 bands in Brisbane, Australia at a local theatre. it was 15+ and I was really getting into music at the time so we went together. my mum and sister were out to dinner at the time with family friends. so after the first 2 bands my dad said he wanted to go to dinner with my family and friends. I was so excited to see the headliner tho. because they had this really weird name and I'd never heard of a band name like that before. that band was king gizzard & the lizard wizard it's okay tho I've seen them twice now and net them once
idk if they still do, but king gizz at least used to have 2 drummers and they'd be drumming at the same time. I know one of them left a couple years back, but idk if they got a replacement or stuck with 1

This band will continue to blow you away
Yessss!! I love these guys, would be awesome if you reacted to more of their stuff! Nonagon Infinity would be a great place to start, as well as Infest the Rats Nest if you want to start in a more metal place!
Finally saw them on Saturtday night and they had a huge happy crowd
My favorite band of all time, without doubt
“Imagine if it was just this for 18 minutes and it didn’t cha-“ TWANGGGGG! 😳
when I was younger in about 2011. my dad got tickets from a workmate to see 4 bands in Brisbane, Australia at a local theatre. it was 15+ and I was really getting into music at the time so we went together. my mum and sister were out to dinner at the time with family friends. so after the first 2 bands my dad said he wanted to go to dinner with my family and friends. I was so excited to see the headliner tho. because they had this really weird name and I'd never heard of a band name like that before. that band was king gizzard & the lizard wizard
it's okay tho I've seen them twice now and net them once
FIVE ALBUMS IN 2017
& 2022
ambrose granny kinda epic af tho
JD King Gizz era?!?!?!? Pls react to all of their albums in order!!!!
idk if they still do, but king gizz at least used to have 2 drummers and they'd be drumming at the same time. I know one of them left a couple years back, but idk if they got a replacement or stuck with 1
Just 1
