This is a very interesting piece. I didn't really dig it before watching your review, but the way you pointed at all the design elements borrowed from the actual plane really tied everything together for me and I can see it's appeal now. I really like the way the bracelet continues the case perfectly, more brands should do that.
Great review Dave 👍🏻
Quite a polarizing piece that gives off a love it or hate it vibe. I really like it. To be honest, avi-8 has never been playing safe. They are doing their own thing and this gets my respect. If you want another boring wall clock flieger, go buy a boring field watch. If you want something cool colorful and playful and have a character, this watch exude charm. I know what I want for my next birthday gift. Good job Dave for bringing this to my attention.
Like how you time link the review. Also i love the watch. Colour scheme is perfect! As far as aircraft... I have a bias for the Spitfire, Lancaster bomber, Hurricane.
God bless!
Hi, thank you for making these videos for other watch aficionados on a budget and good luck with the channel!
As a pilot watch lover, especially with GMT feature, I suggest you have a good look at the Glycine Airman ;) There's your next Grail watch: pioneered the genre, went into the sky and even space, swiss-made automatic, gmt, gorgeous... and can be found for under 350$. I cannot recommend it highly enough, only problem is my other watches remain in the box...
Love the design and feel of the piece, willing to concede some functionality for the look and feel. Great review, thanks!
You can tell you received this as a gift. You are proper gushing over it.
Thanks for sharing 👍
Another great production brother! I hope to be able to review one of their watches one of these days on my channel. A lot of their models look really cool!
These are a very interesting watches, at first glance I thought they were the next iteration of the Citizen sky hawk range, ( especially the Blue angle and Red arrows models).
I like a larger than average watch, especially chronograph pieces, I also like tool watch with busy look to it. (My beloved Navitimer is a case it point.)
You've offered an excellent review, and a worthwhile discount. I'm in the U.K., so I can have an AVI-8 delivered for Less than £200, which considering the spec. and the design, it's a remarkablely affordable E.D.W.
Thanks again Dave.
Stuart
I an wearing the black dial version of this watch today. I agree with everything you said but being a Mustang lover, it was a must have for me. I will point out one other thing about the crown guard. I agree it is a pain to try to use it but the guard also makes a smooth transition over the pushers so to limit any possible snagging. Enjoyed the review and look forward to seeing more from you.
Stunning looking watch, esp. the blue and orange. As for taking off the watch for the chrono, I have to do that with my Seiko Flightmaster because of the screw down pushers. I just can't get a finger and thumb in to unscrew them to use it. Seriously though I don't use it anyway, I just love the design. So like this one, I probably wouldn't use it either. LOL. I really like most of their designs, just wish I could afford a couple. Great video, thanks.
Very interesting design. Agree, it will be liked by people with a connection to the plan it Honours. Love the colour choices and I like that bezel design and transition. Busy dial, but totally cool once I understood the meaning behind the design. Thanks for sharing and educating us Dave!!
Hi Dave. Really interesting and informative review. New respect for AVI-8, but the way the hands obscure the sub dials is kind of a deal breaker for me.
I love you videos mahn..Good one !Being young and having a love for watches grow in me, I am discovering a lot of watches. cool watch this one is. I'll be checking out their other pieces
Excellent review, Dave! Very objective even though like you pointed out the company gave you this watch. The 2 negatives on this watch you pointed out are show stoppers… mineral crystal and the lack of easy access to the Crown. These decisions are surprising, and are going to impact sales of the unit.
I like it… I’m a fan of the Mecha Quartz...Have two other watches with the same movement. This one is busier than I like most of the time… But I think they pull it together nicely. Thanks for the great review
Very interesting review Dave👍 The watch is cool in my opinion, design is the strongest side. Thanks.
I have this in the silver/white face with the blue highlights and leather strap. I think it just oozes cool, and even as a bit of a watch snob I still like it even though it isn't exactly a horological masterpiece.
That's pretty kool, Thanks 😇 . On a way I'm a military firearms historian / collector. However I'm also a military aircraft junkie with a focus on WW1 & WW2 aircraft. I appreciate pilot & field watches and i like AV8's designs rather than the standard Fleiger approach to things. Coincidentally I'm in Meridian Idaho USA and just a few miles from me is the famous Warhawk Air Museum that at times feature seversl P51 Mustangs p
For both air shows and static displays .
Cool plane (I get to see these & Spitfires (same Merlin engine) quite often as I live near Duxford Imperial War Museum) & the watch looks like a well priced piece. Cheers 👍🏻
Great looking watch! Reminder of an outstanding part of our history!
I just got their Spitfire model in gunmetal. Very nice.
Great video
Great video Dave but it's I nice watch but not my thing I collect dive watches but for what it is a nice watch
In my opinion, I don't believe the true aviation fans will give the size of the hand counter balances a second thought. I don't. The fact that they somewhat cover up the sub dials, is an aesthetic that can easily be overlooked with the other great design features this watch has.
I own four Avi8s including a chronograph but this one 's a bit too busy for me ,not too mention pricey for a mecha quartz,
16:01 just bought a P51 because of the style and lumens they advertise and this video confirmed lumens. Got my watch in the mail very nice watch, but don't know what happen between the time of this watch was build and my but my lumens SUCKS ASS never again
Love ur full disclosure with your reviews. Its interesting dial but seems like a toy watch...
I love there dials....
thky
The chronograph part (stiffness) reminds me about my old watch called "Oceanus" from a brand "Beluga". Titanium cased and bracelet.
Do you know that watch company? Quite unknown
So the avi-8 chronographs are by Seiko or Miyota?
Too busy and a little too hokey for me. I've seen a couple of other AVI-8 watches and they don't appeal. And that rattly bracelet - I was looking for a snake!
This one is a hard pass for me. I'll stick to my Laco Achen.
I have the black/orange from Long Island Watch. Great timepiece for just a little more money.
@@stephenbridges2791 LIW just released a video of his new fliegers. NH35 and a traditional case for $199. Incredible deal!
Nice looking watch but I would rather get an Invicta aviator there's a model similar to this with much better functions and it's 90 bucks for a quartz watch not $300 for a quartz watch.
I guess it looks better in real life than on youtube. The dial is screaming look at me! Not my cup of tea, The only one Avi-8 done right imo is the Flyboy Engineer.
Yes, as pilots, we don't wear fashion watches like AVI8. Thanks so much for clearing the air!
😬 not my cup of tea atall, good review though Dave
Way to much going on on The dial for me but cool watch
FIRST!! Good vid btw!
Avi-8 is Citizen made - so no worries about quality or value for money ^^
Citizen? Really? I don't think so...Citizen using a seiko movement?
@@TheGearPeddler I will dig in my bookmarks - basically there is a sub of citizen only sold in Italy that has models that form the basis of avi-8 releases. Citizen has 60 factories across the world that don't only make citizen branded watches
@@roydoorenspleet1548 interesting... Thanks I wasn't able to dig out any connection at all but I am not surprised.
I have 10 AVI-8's and they are NOT made by Citizen
As far as I know AVI-8 isn't connected with Citizen. They are in fact a sister brand of Spinnaker, both brands being owned by a group called Dartmouth Brands.
A good video but a very messy over romanticised watch which bears no resemblence to a pilot chronograph or a P51 cockpit. At that price it should have been so much more.............................
They are pilot-themed watches. Not actual watches for pilots to wear haha
Crown guards like that are off-putting. So much unnecessary mass.
No its not a good watch low quality, not durable
I like your reviews but seeing your hands and arms constantly flying all over the place is very distracting.
