I'm glad to see that AVI-8 is doing a tribute to the P-51 "Tank Killer". My Dad was Army Air Corps, we didn't have a dedicated Air Force during WWII, and he loved that thing! I just picked up one of Marc's watches so this one will take that spot on my Christmas list. Marc, you're killing me here! I'm going to have to grow another arm at this rate.

I own a Avi-8 P-51 Mustang Blakeslee Legion edition (quartz), and it's been my favorite watch since I got it. I got it because my grandfather was in the Army Air Corps. during WWII. The P-51 watch I own is amazing, from the little details to the lume, which literally lasts most of the night if I zap it with my UV flashlight. I want this Automatic though! It looks amazing.

So interesting, as always, at first I suspected that AVI-8 had no quality hence the low price but now I'm a bit interested in buying one, the look is alright for sure and your examination of the watch model gives me security to buy one in the future. Thanks a lot!

Very cool, dial design. Avi8 always make create nice depth and character in their design and this is no different. Wish they made a few smaller models as most are unfortunately way too big. Very well done video Marc.

Nice revision Marc. I have the original version from July 2019, also in the Green/Yellow dial. I do like the skeleton hands. Doesn't get as much wrist time as it should. I should remedy that.

The whole AV8 line sold horribly at my store. We just today ripped out the display case and moved them out. I kept the little airplane they give you for the display and put it up in the workshop. Hope you have better luck with them.
I dig your reviews, Marc! One request though, could you maybe try to include how long the power reserve lasts? Speaking for myself it's always one thing I'm left wondering about after most reviews I watch. I guess maybe if you're very familiar with all the movements on the market you have it memorised, but it's not the case for me at least, so a quick mention would be much appreciated.

The watches are large like aircraft instruments. Making them smaller would look odd I think.

They are large but they remind me of the gauge cluster that we used to have in our Austin-Healy and Triumph sports cars. I guess that I just showed my age there.

@@mountainhobo could be worse, you could make a highly polished dive watch case that could attracts predators and charge thousands for it and call it something daft like the submariner.
I like the watch. The case back with the ten goal Tommy I can do without. Maybe they can do a p51 Yeager and actually put hid plane on the case back. Now that I'd buy, but this? It's a hard no. I think they missed an easy opportunity. Maybe because of Gen. Yeager and the naming rights or something. I would love a Chuck Yeager inspired watch though.

Suggestion: hope you'll change your watch dial logo to "Long Island" (in a classic font) ur original logo can keep in crown though. It will give ur watches a more artistic look. Sure sales will boosts more. Thanks me later
Almost has some Ballast leanings. The dark gray and light blue is nice, maybe the strap would look good with blue stitching?

Hey Marc, totally unrelated ( maybe not so unrelated ) but would you consider shooting a video inside a watch manufacturer in Hong-Kong, or mainland China?
Of course when it'd be possible after the restrictions and stuff. Would be cool to see where most affordable quality watches we buy, are made.

Hi i have suggestion pls, can you change your dial logo? Use something like "long island" or "islander" in a classic font. It will give an art vibe to your (on our also) watches. Its good balance becoz most of your watches are utilitarian. That round logo is perfect for crown though. And 1 thing, pls. Keep display case back if possible for some watches (ie. That oyster perpetual look) theres a lot of people who wants to see their watch's heart beating. Pretty sure it will help your sales also. Thank you very much

Does it have a screw down crown?.
Please stop with the display casebacks on something like an NH35 and take 1.2mm off the thickness. Lume leaves much to be desired on what pretends to be a pilot's watch. The dials are really slick and you definitely picked the most aesthetic as your favourite, Mark Fromlongislandwatchdotcom.
Love the gunmetal case but I wish the hands were a bit more readable for my old eyes.

I'm guessing "AVI-8".
The crown guard is keeping with the profile of the P-51.

I want to buy this watch on account of the leather strap alone; I could live without the "21000 Vibrations" billboard but nothing is perfect....except maybe a Ulysses Nardin!

I bought the Meadow Brook version (black dial with brown leather strap). The finishing of the watch looks awesome, as well as the total design. The quality seems top notch. Although I really like the watch and think it’s great value for the money (actually, I think it’s a steal at 20% discount), I think they could have improved on a few items, which is a personal preference of course. The most important one would be the glass. It’s AR coated on the inside only, and has a terrible glare on the outside. You really have to turn the watch to the right orientation to be able to enjoy it’s beauty to the fullest. The ‘see-through’ case back with ‘comic’ style printing should have been a solid case with engraving. The crown guard looks like it was added at a very late stage of the design, and doesn’t seem to belong there. Last but not least, It would have been nice if they had a larger (>45mm) size. All in all a gorgeous watch with some room for (design related) improvements.
I was going to get one until i saw that back - Shame unless it is a sticker and can come off...

Nice lookin piece but they gotta take my dyslexia into consideration here. I look at that dial and see (from 12 o'clock on clockwise) 0-->05-->02-->AVI-8-->20-->05-->the artist formerly known as Arabic numeral 06, and on. Illicits flashbacks of many an early morning sitting in classrooms staring at calculus exams thinkin 2 myself why am i learning Chinese? and that a life on the fringes of the law may afford one food and shelter in times of decreased productivity/earning capacity. I would be constantly afraid of someone asking me what time it is with this watch on.
Why no one says anything negative about islander watches?

50 meters water resistance is a deal breaker for me. I don’t understand why there’s still watches that have only 50 meters at all. The industry standard by now for any watches other than dress watches should be 100 meters, so you can go at least swimming with them!

Fascination with water resistance is a strange one as how many people actually swims with their watch on? Not a lot I bet.
@@garyboyle695 it’s not a fascination, it’s a matter of functionality! I don’t want to have to worry about my watch every time I get into the rain or drop it into the sink or someone drops their drink on me or I wash my hands. Also, if I spontaneously decide to go swimming in summer I don’t want to have to take my watch off and leave it on the shore where someone might steal it. With a hundred meters of water resistance I have to worry about none of the above.
If they were around 38-40mm they would be perfect but of course they had to make them over 42mm.
Perfect for you maybe, but as a guy with an 8" wrist I won't buy 38mm watches and tend to even avoid 40mm watches. They look like women's or kid's watches on me.

Really good video, but I don't like those watches, complicated dials in the wrong way, the crown protection is pointless, not my cup of tea
That case back ruins it for me. Why see trough? It's not like there is a hand wound ETA there or something special. Make it solid and it will cut the thickness, we all have at least couple of NH35, it's not anything to write home about on the visuals.
In every other aspect they have nailed the design.
When the P51 mustang was made Japan was not an ally. Too bad the watch doesn't have a movement from a neutral country.

Love the watch face but definitely not the weird, ugly, ten-goal Tommy case back. 😒
I really really want to like them but the 5,20, 40 and 55 just throw me off. They need to do one or the other. Confusing and unbalanced looking. The 10? Nobody cares about the 10 either. Sorry, I cant
