  • Thanks for watching a Captain Cooper Trip Report!
    Description
    Airline: Delta (DL)
Aircraft: McDonnell Douglas MD-88 (Super 80)
    Seat: 33A
    Route: BDL-ATL
Flight time: 2 hours 40 minutes
    Date: 06/14/18
This was a return flight back home during a trip I took back in the summer. Since I loved 33A so much, I decided to sit there on both legs. If you're into the Maddog, you should definitely sit there at some point on a Delta Jet. One of the coolest JT8D views out there.
Sorry for the two engine starts in the beginning. I didn't catch that in editing.

Wow!!!!! I've always wanted to sit there in 33A, as I still have yet to fly on a Delta Maddog. It's just so incredible to see the left engine up close like that with the blades turning during startup (especially since the pilots start it first)! And dang, that was one heck of a full-power takeoff with some serious JT8D buzz!

The blades are moving. What you see not moving is the inlet guide vanes (IGV) directly in front of the fan blades.

@@richardlewis7471 thank you! I did realize that later. I felt so stupid!! 🤭

Erik, don’t be silly. If I wasn’t an aircraft mechanic I’d think the same thing. It’s so commonplace for the fan to be up front and spinning. An interesting fact is the IGVs are hollow for hot anti-ice air to flow!
