I have been using wood for a while now.
The saturation of inks with inks and the resessing I get with different woods it's very satisfying. I see that ur very knowledgeable and looking forward to learning more I appreciate you.

I feel like that drawing on paper simply doesn't "feel" as archival ad drawing on wood. However I work in graphite and I'm wondering about drawing on wood panels that have been gessoed to make a white surface, and drawing on that with graphite pencils. But I can't find much on this subject online. Have you tried it? I want to draw serious photorealism styles of art using graphite and I want to be reasonably sure my drawings might last hundreds of years unchanged. So h e l p?

      Hi
I've done drawings on gessoed panels. The acrylic gesso that is usually used to gesso canvas doesn't work very well. There is the gesso that is kind of like the old masters used. It's called Fredrix gesso ground dry mix and you can get it on the internet. You will need to mix it yourself and the instructions are on the container. This gesso is more porous and has a kind of softer texture. Iv'e done both and the acrylic gesso is more like drawing on plastic. The dry mix isn't good for oil painting on unless it is sealed with something, but nice for drawing on and as I remember ok for using ink or charcoal, but I haven't done that in a long time, However did some with drawing pencils not long ago and worked well. If you want to remove parts of the drawing and an eraser isn't working, you can sand off parts. Also as I remember it's better to apply with a soft brush to avoid getting brush strokes and good to sand down the surface some before drawing on it.Hope this helps
