If you could somehow clip through the ground and end up under the surface, would that still satisfy the condition of not leaving the ground? If not, the optimal strategy is probably to try and get as close as possible to the planet's center and use gravity to accelerate to a really high speed.
I'm 99% sure by now that velocity, speed, pressure, etc are still tied to frame rate, meaning if you drop significant frames, you only get a very small portion of those things until the game smooths out, which usually completely screws everything
There’s a bug currently going around that dramatically increases the drag of certain parts, one of those parts are the cargo bays. Neither the cargo bays or the fairings shield what’s in them from drag so just don’t use them. I can’t tell if the final run used a capsule or a seat in a cargo bay but if it didn’t you might want to address that
If you were wondering, the reason your sleds were initially running off the runway the opposite way you steered is because when engine gimbal tries to steer you left, it has to turn the opposite way, pushing to the right, and with how close they were to the center of mass that push to the right was stronger than the torque to the left and so it couldn't turn the vehicle enough to compensate. If you had them further back, as with the stabilizer fins, that torque would be stronger and it would more efficiently turn your vehicle before it started pushing you off course.
This was cool! Now try to create a speedrecord when there is a kerbal on board and you cannot leave re runway. So you have to accelerate and stop on the runway and keep the kerbal and the vehicle alive
I guess its the Sled world record but its pretty far from the world land speed record. Great job anyway, sleds are hard. Also dont even attempt boats until the physics are settled and the sea wont eat your boat for lunch.
just a question, in besiege, how do you get the wooden panels? for me, it does not show up. is it a mod I need to download? and if it is, what mod is it?
You seem to be under the impression that you need to reduce your weight to go faster, when in fact the only thing that really matters is mass. Friction is determined by the coefficient of friction * weight, but friction is a static force. It remains constant for all speeds. Drag, on the other hand, scales up with the square of your speed, meaning that at high speeds it makes up the vast majority of the force resisting you. As such, your "weight" actually has extremely minimal effect on your top speed and adding more down force for extra stability is usually preferable.
probably could have hit exactly 1000ms if you played around with final stage fuel so that you'd run out just as you got to the end of the runway. marginal gains but still gains.

i am sorry for you... but it doesnt count as a new record... when you achieved your speed at the ground, you are allowed to fly in the air and your kerbal needs to SURVIVE. you can do this with parachutes for example. this video doesnt count as the new record. im sorry bro...
@@nikkiofthevalley while wings main use is to create lift, but no matter what, wing is the surface that control airflow, and stabilizers do quite the same thing. They control airflow. The fact that they arent purposed for lift doesn't make them any less wingy.
Anyone want to see a mun speedrun next? Or would you rather see a boat record?
mun all the way btw love your vids pls make more i am even subbed
boat
Both actually plz
boat i´d like to see you deal with ksp2s janky water physics
Can you make a guided missle in besiege please
Try turning off auto friction control on the wheels it might help
Specifically the front 2 wheels, thats where a lot of the twisting motion comes from especially in the first tests.

There's no way that counts
It somehow does,
if you dont leave the planet
@@ReidCaptain even if it did, all it would do is add a new rule lmao
I somehow doubt KSP 2 is smart enough to even think of advanced KSP glitches
How would you even do that
I'm 99% sure by now that velocity, speed, pressure, etc are still tied to frame rate, meaning if you drop significant frames, you only get a very small portion of those things until the game smooths out, which usually completely screws everything

@@ReidCaptain Ayy GTX 960 gang 🔥
I love the gpu market...
@ReidCaptain can't you just limit your current GPU? Or have it use your CPU integrated gpu if it has one?
"I almost got the 950 I needed so I could round up to 1000" yes
The only problem is that Jeb is probably meant to live at the end of the land speed record test.
Land speed record only counts if the Kerbal survives. Them are the rules.
You also don't round the numbers up.

i love your ksp/ksp2 videos🤗
Thanks, there are more on the way!
@@ReidCaptain thats gonna be fantastic!
a big mistake was putting 2 gear on the front, have 2 on the back and 1 front so most of the friction is in the back making it more stable
You disintegrated due to the high speed? STABILIZERS.
You managed to survive, but you're still slow? MOAR BOOSTERS

Tune friction control to solve the self-turning issue
I tried that but it had very little effect, however I only changed it a couple of times haphazardly
@@ReidCaptain i think turning off auto steering and friction control fixes the issue
the ultimate KSP 2 challenge, quit playing it until it's fixed :P
Now this is pod racing!
It really seems like KSP2 hates ground vehicles even more than KSP1 and the physics need a lot of work before land cruisers can even work.
07:20 ahhh only rce subs will know what im pointing out
I love rce
The strongest shape
pretty strong engines ngl
Stronger than a triangle
That strong shape looked like very efficient engineering to me.
Hey Reid, I just noticed how much you put emphasis on at least one word per phrase 11:56 that’s so funny 😂
"brute force is the only way" - meanwhile streamers and RUclipsrs are making elegant, well thought out designs to set the real record.
Mad?
4th! Also reid you should make a besiege space program! Send rockets to space in besiege, and do besiege stuff in KSP!

SWDennis got 1528 m/s. They did use wheels though.
