    This was from the movie FM, about a radio station at the turn of the dawn of FM radio. Before FM radio, imagine NEVER hearing clear stereo music coming out of a radio! FM changed the game for music and the recording industry. They now had a venue to showcase in album quality, the music that you could go to the Record Store and purchase for your very own, to play on your ever rising cost and quality of home sound equipment (more money!). This movie also spawned a Classic TV sitcom called WKRP in Cincinnati. Both the movie FM and the TV series are well worth your time for quality entertainment!!!

      Yes! They are one of the coolest bands of the 1970s. They were original, unique, and didn't sound like any other bands of that time.I can only think of 2 other bands(sure there's more) that were so cool sounding. That would be ELO, and the Talking Heads

      FM radio did more than just change the game for the recording industry, it really did change the world we live in. There are many bands that lay the claim that American FM radio is one of the biggest reasons they became famous during the early 70s. Jimmy Page said this about Led Zep. Long gone are the days when a DJ could play whatever he wanted to, including playing a whole side of an album without commercials. So bands like Yes even though they only had 1 song in the top 40 charts back then, were still selling out huge arena's in city after city all because of American FM radio. Now how did all of this change the world we live in, well OMG where do I start? how many people went and saw these kinds of bands and played their songs at their weddings or at someones funeral. How many people were conceived before and after these concerts? lol I started playing the guitar when I was 8 years old because of a Jimi Hendrix song I heard on FM radio. So you see I could go on and on about how this wonderful music from that era changed the world we live in. And we may have never had heard of some of these bands if not for FM radio.

    The movie "FM" was brilliant, the opening when the DJ next on realises that he has overslept....in the bad old days, when you only had AM radio, the music was scratchy and went in and out...when FM came along, it was like a revelation, you could actually hear the music, crisp and clear, without break-up, young dudes now don't know how much it meant to us oldies:)

    When real musicians get off work, they listen to Steely Dan!
    Lots of basic descriptions of AM & FM already posted here. I’m 63 now. When I was a kid, my dad taught me a lot about radios. He was a HAM amateur radio operator. When I was 12 in jr. high school they made us take shop classes including electronics. I’ve known this about radio since then.
    AM stand for Audio Modulated. FM stands for Frequency Modulated.
    AM radio was infamous for picking up electronic noise from just about anything, causing a scratchy garbled sound called Static. Static is noise. In old cars the engine’s whine would bleed through the AM car radio. On and on. Endless sources of static.
    FM Frequency Modulated changed everything. The sound was high quality and it did not pick up static interference. FM radio stations soon became the home of the very best radio stations.
    AM still exists today obviously, and although better than it was 50 years ago, it still picks up static interference. Cars evolved and all have resistor spark plug wires now and do not bleed into the AM radio much at all anymore.
    Class dismissed

      @ronv6637 4 дня назад

      AM is better now,I guess you never "heard it on theX" back when outlaw and pirate stations could play anything and introduce a audience to what corporate suits didn't want you to hear. Maybe listen about some Rich Men North of Richmond.

      Absolutely correct. There’s also another great performance in the movie. It’s Linda Rondstadt doing a cover of The Stones song “Tumbling Dice.” I was always curious why FM was never included on a SD album, other than a Greatest Hits version. Contractual agreements to be sure.

While cleaning out my parent's house within the last year, we came across an FM converter that actually plugged into an 8-track player. So if your car didn't have FM but you had an 8-track player, you could add FM without rewiring anything. High tech at its' finest! 😉

    No one can really appreciate how important the FM band (88 to 108 MHz) was unless you were growing up in south Florida during those times. At night when the atmosphere changes, the Cuban stations would just swamp the AM airwaves and make it impossible to get any stations we wanted. Later on in the night they would either shut down or there was possibly another atmospheric change so that we could get some stronger channels on what we called the skip. We'd get some North Carolina stations, some Alabama stations but still couldn't get our regulars. When FM came about, it was certainly a game changer, at least for us kids!
