Def Leppard WILL NEVER sing better than THIS
I was in college (U. of Iowa) when this came out. Great tune, got a lot of airplay on MTV. I was still in college when drummer Rick Allen lost his left arm in a car wreck. The fact that he and the band collectively overcame this horrible accident is a wonderful story. Props to all of them!

Main difference between this video and the Pour Some Sugar on Me video is Rick Allen, the drummer, still has two arms in this video. It was before his tragic accident.
"pyromania" was the name of the album ... they had a few before & a few after .... but this was the BEST
Saw them in concert back in '83 great show. Ah the glorious teen years.
You mentioned the Rock of Ages religious hymn.
Well that’s where the title and chorus come from. The room they were recording in got used by a choir and when they returned a hymn book was left open to Rock of Ages.
They were finding they lyrics yet for the song and Joe looked down and sung Rock of Ages and Producer Mutt Lange instantly knew they found the chorus.
So in a round about way, it is the church hymn you’re thinking of.
My 5th grade music teacher in 1981-1982 had a rotating event where kids could bring in a song to play. I was going to play "Photograph" by them, but, b/c I thought it was too obvious a choice, switched to this song. When it was over, the first thing literally out of the teacher's mouth was, "Well, no hook THERE". He was right that I didn't understand what a hook was, but I got his cruelty loud and clear. Who says that to a kid? What a tool. The things we remember. Funnily, his name was Mr. Mumford.

This was before drummer Rick Allen lost an arm. He took a few years learning how to drum with both feet and one arm. He created a drum set specifically to meet his needs.

This came on the heals of the battle between Disco and Rock and Roll.... Rock and Roll eventually won. :)

If we're talking about bands that teased their hair. Big hair bands. I'm not exactly certain about this. But I believe it was Firehouse who's manager suggested teasing their hair. So they would look closer to the fans in the nosebleed section of the arena's.

Loved this back in the day but just doesn't have the same appeal anymore. Maybe I'm old now.

Anything off their High And Dry, and Pyromania albums are excellent, not a bad song on either album, when the Hysteria album came out, I was a tad disappointed because their style changed and wasn’t hard enough for me.

Love the song even though they are NOT a hair band. They are one of the best hard rock bands in all of the 80s, for sure. Great hook, guitars and Joe Elliot is already a great frontman. You should do the Fooling video next from the same album. It is another incredible banger you would love. Enjoy! 🔥🎵🎸🎤🎸🎶

Excellence in British Rock !!! still on tour this 2024 . Def Leppard is without any doubt the Best Rock Band after Led Zeppelin sure there are great bands but Def Leppard despite the ups and downs still deliver .
Def Leppard never did the Hair Band thing. Most of there Music is in a genre called Glam Metal.

The whole name of this seires is kinda wonky and off... like.. first, no one should feel guilty about liking good music. Second.. you dont really have any context at to what a "hard band" is. Did Def Leppard have long hair? Maybe half the band... if that. All of Metallica had long hair in the 80s... not a hair band. Van Halen... not a hair hand. "Hair bands" were a term for the 80s "glam rock" scene... usually from LA. So, like Poison.. or Jet Boy. Def Leppard was from Sheffield, England... they had no connection to what was going on in LA, and they werent glamming it up with makeup.
