That’s a deep cut from Todd - from a great album. You really should react to his big hits - Can we Still be Friends, I Saw the Light and A Dream Goes on Forever among many many more….

Keep in mind, The Wizard, composed most of the songs, sang lead and backing vocals, (some female ones added, on a few songs), played EVERY instrument, arranged & produced the entire album...in his early 20's.
♡ Used to fall asleep every night, to this album, during my '70's high school days.

Plenty of other players on this album, on side four.

Highly underrated power pop classic. And Todd plays/sings everything here. Just amazing 🤟
    Phone-worthy, indeed

I'm a huge Todd Rundgren fan and I've heard this song many many times. But until now, it never occurred to me how much this song sounds like The Beatles. Thanks for the great reaction!

Todd played all the instruments and sang all the harmonies on this track.

Todd is a genius. He has a deep rabbit hole of music too between him solo and his band 'Utopia', if you're willing to dive into it. 🤘

Todd has written so many great songs, both alone and with his band “Utopia”. He is brilliant. I recommend “Just One Victory” next.

The title track of this album and his song "Hello It's Me" are also great choices....Todd is still producing a lot of great albums by other artists today...

One of the best albums of '72 and Todd's masterpiece Love/hate thing with him; his great early stuff with Nazz, other great solo things and some serious misfires As you noted, the whole double album has a recorded live feel, which was something for an otherwise meticulous producer. Great pick from classic album

It’s in my top 10 favorite albums. This is my favorite song from the record. Black Maria and Little Red Lights are also standouts for me. He could have written pop hits like Hello It’s Me all day long but moved away from pop stardom to eventually form Utopia. He is a great guitarist as well. His work on Bat Out Of Hell as producer and guitarist are as key to the success as Meatloaf’s singing and the songwriting

So many great Tod Rundgren songs, he's been active since the 1960's.
One of my favorites is from 1973 it's known as Tod Rundgrens Utopia, the song Ikon. It has very uplifting lyrics, but it's also very long. 18 minutes methinks.

  • @edalisauskas7313

Deep deep Well with this guy
Also a successful producer (Meatloaf' debut album was his)
Much more than the 2-3 overplayed radio hits
    Change Myself
    Parallel Lines
    Just One Victory
    Love is the Answer
    Nice one!!

Yessir, deep well indeed. Real Man, Hamburger Hell, Breathless, Property, the Last Ride, For the Want of a Nail, Black Maraiah, the deep cut list is soooo long and so good.

Ikon by Utopia. A Touchstone Song for me. Very uplifting lyrics, but too long for most at around 20 minutes.

I thought I knew all of Todd's songs! Apparently not! The 2 songs that come to mind that Todd performed are Can We Still Be Friends? And Wow I totally blanked out! I can't think of the other song! This one is cool too!

This song in particular has been cited as a big influence on bands like Fountains of Wayne and other power pop groups & his more progressive stuff trickled down to today’s Tame Impala and similar groups.
He has produced groups like The Band, Meat Loaf (40 million albums sold) XTC & many others.
I’ve seen him live more than 40 times.

    React to these Todd Rundgren:
I Saw The Light, Hello It’s Me, Can We Still Be Friends, Just One Victory, It Wouldn’t Have Made Any Difference, Black Maria, Real Man, Compassion, A Dream Goes On Forever, and We Gotta Get You A Woman.

If you like this, you might try some Bad Finger, Raspberries or Big Star. Todd's other albums don't really sound like this one. He had a *lot* to say and he moved on after this.

Todd has written some real good music through the years. While this one is not one of my favs he has a pretty good catalog of music. I saw the Light is one of my favorites from him . Give that one a listen. He also wrote a top 10 song (I think it was a top 10) Called "Love is the Answer" Sung by England Dan and John Ford Coley. That song was originally done by a band he was in called Utopia but it didn't do anything until England Dan and John Ford got a hold of it. Ok seems Im rambling on here lol Sorry. As always stay safe and much love to you and yours

It’s a matter of opinion. Couldn’t I Just Tell You is an excellent example of power pop. Todd layers multiple guitars and adds that seering lead in the break. It’s my favorite song on the record. But, I tend to like deeper cuts on albums rather than the heavily played hits
