Interesting test! So I just came back from a week long intensive video production with multiple 30min interview takes throughout the day during a very hot summer week and I never had any overheating warnings. But I was also using an external recorder and never filmed 4k 60p. Only 4K DCI 25p 10-bit 4:2:2. But I have shot 6K for 25min with the camera being in the sun with 37° celcius temperature and there was also no issue. One time I even filmed a 1,5 hour long guided tour (in three takes) on a gimble without an external recorder (4K 25p) and no issues there as well. I think your results would have been very different if you would have either flipped the screen out or turned the LCD off. For me the X-S20 proved to be a camera capable of working in demanding situations if you treat it right (meaning you use an external recorder and turn off the LCD, turn the camera off when not needed and so on). So for me perosnally there is no overheating issue at all.
Thanks. I wondered if there was a difference with an external recorder and that seems to be the case. A lot of the heat generating issues is probably from the processing necessary to save the video, which doesn’t happen if you just stream through the HDMI port. Equivalently if you configure the camera with live streaming (Twitch, Zoom) I also wonder how long it would last
So you are saying you need to use a 400$ external recorder (600$ if you want to take advantage of the camera’s 6K open gate feature) in order to avoid overheating? Because mi X-T3 can record several 20 min, 4K@60 10-bit, 200mbps clips back to back for 80 mins before the battery died. No overheating at all. With an external recorder it could do ProRes 4K 4:2:2 10-bit without having to press record, so this hardly reads like a compliment. It’s absolutely outrageous that the camera meant to compete with the a6700 and provide next level content creation capabilities has worse thermal performance than a 6 year old camera.
@@larrydiaz7156 I never had any overheating warning so far with and without external recorders. And I shoot in 6K open gate and 4K 10-Bit 4:2:2 360mbps a lot. But that is my personal experience. Very helpful video. Thanks. I tried a test on my X-S20 running it at 1080, 24fps, Flog, around 65-68 degrees in a room. It ran for 1 hr and 35 mins and that's when the battery gave out. I’m Hoping fujifilm can address this in a firmware update.
May be late but I did tests on both the XS20 and the A6700, the A6700 overheats easier. In a room at 28 degrees C filming at 4K30 The sony overheated in 1hr 11min and the XS20 lasted until the battery dies at 2hr20min. I'm still deciding but leaning towards the SX20.
How odd how every camera recently released has been having overheating problems, A7IV on release, the A6700 and now the XS20?? Huh... Wonder if they should start implementing small internal fans into all of these smaller enthusiast cameras like the S5II??. They really shouldn't be charging extra for that fan... imaging getting the XH2s at retail ANND the fan? That's a ridiculous price $2500 + $199... Just for the body and a fan...
Yup, this is because the technology has advanced immensely, but not the construction of the bodies. We went from shooting 4k 24 at 4:2:0 8bit to 6k 24 Opengate at ProRes 4:2:2 Internally. And with others like sony making 4k120 in 10bit a norm, yup, overheating is bound to occur. Have fans built directly into the camera is a must, I would say.
I own this camera. The overheating of the camera depends very substantially on the ambient temperature AND air flow. The issue is how quickly the heat can be dissipated from the camera body. I found that the fan can make a massive difference, but again, it depends on the ambient temperature and air flow in your room. I shoot in 4K 60fps, and without the fan, the camera will overheat and shutdown in roughly 15 minutes. With the fan, it never shuts down and recording length is determined by the battery and memory card.
I agree, i saw jordan drakes testing on 4k60.. and he said he got 30mins which is pretty good. For me in the Algarve during a heatwave it cut that in half. So it all depends on where you are. Sucks for people in warmer countries though ahha
Thank you for letting us know, that’s worse performance than the X-T3, which can last up to 80 min without overheating while recording 4K@60. It makes absolutely no sense to me to have worse thermal performance, no matter how much certain users go out of their way to hide that fact: it’s not good performance. And It’s unacceptable for it to be so lacking compared to one of the brand’s very own camera from 6 years ago.
Glad I'm seeing this comment and the answer of Tongue. Because mine also heats taking only photos. It's 30•C outside but I think it's not normal to see the red alert taking only photos. Gonna take it back. It annoys me because I like it.
I'm hoping, fuji addresses this soon perhaps in a firmware update... The algarve was hot the past few weeks. And the only time where it overheated for me was filming 4k60. Photos wasn't an issue. @@tombor3538

Indonesia is hot and humid.. here in the algarve it just gets really hot and dry… and it was fine during my use..it seems like the people who are affected by this the most are the people living in and around Asia..some other people I talk to don’t have this problem. I’m
Hoping fujifilm can address this in a firmware update.
@@maikelsatya also read the pinned comment on this video. Sammy street life has his thoughts he owns the xs20
yeah I hope so... thanks for the information!
People claim that the XT5/XS20 tend to overheat during stills shooting, and this is unacceptable.
This seems like it's location dependant. It seems like the tropical climate are the ones that are affected the most.
It doesn’t. People are making stuff up.
Yeah mine over heated during normal photo use at only 90F - not in direct sunlight.
I think it has to do with Fuji recipes more than anything.
Just need ur suggestions regarding overheating, should i go for xs20 or a6700
what's your heart tellint you?
Have fans built directly into the camera is a must, I would say.
this seems like a discussion for camera conspiracies ahha
Nikon enters the chat, whit the best resolution and frames per second options in the mirrorless market, and absolutely no overheating lol :D
Can you make a video giude on (wide speture) vitage lenses for fuji?
(Xs10 ets..)
I don't have vintage lenses to make a guide.
@@Iamtongue
Thank you anyway. I want to buy a fuji camera+ lens, and your video guides is very helpful. 🙏
@@larrydiaz7156 - it is substantially smaller. Thermals are more challenging in a smaller body.
Mine overheats when browsing the menus. Great job Fuji, never again...
What happened?
My camera heats even during photo taking. I have sandisk extreme pro uhs I 90mb/s writing speed card. What Should I doo😢
Did you change your auto power off temp to high?
@@Iamtongue yes, it is on the High.
@@mehmetalikaplan7386 ohh shit no way.. I haven’t had it happend to me in a few hours of shooting here in the algarve
@@tombor3538
so.... not bad I should say .or even rly good for camera which cost 1300$
i would say not bad.
I have not the best or latest fujifilm x-t100 which released more than 5 year ago. Nothing at all. Never saw the overheating sign. Is that a standard for cameras for now? What should I do? I just bought it :(
You even didnt flip the screen. Thats recommended to get rid of the heat.
you don't say?
So why?
Mine overheats on the menu, it takes 2 minutes only to overheat without even shooting.
Thats mad, i guess it's location based.
Would you choose X-S20 or X-T5?
Hard to choose right now. That's saying something about the XS20.
I don’t have to worry because I don’t do video 😂
Ayo!
5:28 it's a tiny little baddie 😂
My mind was elsewhere thanks for exposing me 😂🫠
@@Iamtongue lol no problem. Hey we all do it .
Now do Sony
Sir I’m a youtuber I’m not made of money.
The FUJIFILM FAN-001 accessory exists so this is a non-issue
Still overheats with the accessory unfortunately. But it did improved the record time
Use cooling fan 🪭! Change settings.
ok
