Beginning to think that seat comfort on trains won't improve until we glue the people in charge of procurement to the rock hard seats- and make sure they stay glued to them through an entire day of normal operations. Sure, its a bit of an extreme choice, but it would make the point pretty effectively (especially if we make sure to include anyone involved at the DfT and the Treasury as well)
the ironing board seats are perfectly fine for merseyrail. its the regional and express trains using ironing board seats that i hate. but for commuter trains with journey times usually around like 45 mins at most? sure. they're good then.
@@ballsinspector fair enough for short distances, but this is being done for pretty much any stock that gets ordered- so I can't help thinking that gluing the people that make the decisions to the seats of an Azuma for a day of express workings on the ECML might do a world of good- maybe even get us back to the seat comfort of the BR Mark 1 carriages if we're lucky
@@MercenaryPen oh absolutely, however: the azuma seats are meh but nowhere near as bad as gwr. literally most uncomfortable seats anywhere on the railway. even thameslink standard class is more comfortable.
@@ballsinspector we can use London to Penzance services for this if you'd prefer- but I thought the combination of Ironing board seats and high speed running throughout might be especially effective
@@MercenaryPen id rather spend a whole day on a standard class azuma seat than even go to exeter on a gwr train
Saw two guys taking train carrage numbers at central station last Saturday a thing I've not seen since I was a kid a millennia ago.
Don't know why when you said 'You could almost say, Pointless' the music went well with that lol Brilliant Video Nick. The Class 777s are brilliant units. Sad to see the PEPs go but nothing last forever.
"Hell ya!" 2:30 ❤
I can imagine those seats being a little uncomfortable on a long run out to Southport or Chester.
It's Finally here! It must be so exciting to live in a country where you constantly recieve new rolling stock. Where I live (Tbilisi) all trains are old Soviet ones apart from 4 Stadler KISS emu's.
Not if you like the old ones!
@caramelldansen2204 as much as I like looking at old trains, they kinda suck to take everyday
If you like sitting on trains with literal ironing board seats, yes, but otherwise no lol. Usually they don't even come on time now, they're a few years late and it's becoming very common in the UK...
@@Jamming_Jimmy that sounds not bad, here some trains have wooden seats
oh yeah lol
ignore what I just said if you have lower quality seats than us in the uk
Traveled on one at the weekend and got to say, they're fantastic trains. Very bright and airy and lots of great news features to bring MerseyRail into this century.
The seats aren't the comfiest but they're fine for the short journeys they run and they're better than what they're replacing. I'm also glad they've kept a normal seating layout rather than going the way of the Tyne and Wear Metro and going longitudinal.
Save for a lack of toilets these are exactly what a modern commuter train aught to be.
Cool! The door lighting on those 777s looks a bit like on the new dlr b23 stock. In fact the trains themselves look reasonably alike.
Hi Nick a great video and i really enjoyed watching you riding on a new Mersey rail 777 class train.
I don’t blame you for taking the tube round to Central, you’ve paid for it and it saves crossing umpteen roads to get there!! I can’t help feeling that the new 777’s look a little like trams?!
Lucky! When I tried to ride one, they were out of service and I only got to see them in the depot at kirkdale
The new trains are finally out! I’ve got a plan to travel to Liverpool and then Belfast later on this year and certainly want to try them out 👍
It seems to be standard procedure these days at Liverpool Central when a train is terminating, the screens will show not in service. Only once the train has arrived do they show the destination of the next train. It's probably to give passengers time to alight the inbound service.
Nice one Nick. The 777s look sleek shame the peps (the class 507s and 508s) are going for scrap
the Merseyraill 777s look amazing dont worry about being late for the party as ill be even later for the party as my turn to try them out wont happen till September when i do my yearly trip to the North West but i am goig to try and squeeze a ride on one then but anyway brilliant vlog keep up the awesome work
I'm gonna miss the PEP'S, but I can't wait to hear "this train is for Ellesmere port" on the new 777's
Good to see you got chance to ride one.
Glad you finally got to ride on one, they really are fantastic trains!
Great vlog of the New Class 777s Merseyrail trains Nick. I’m yet to ride them yet but I’m sure I will at some point, they do look impressive!
Great Video, Nick!
Totally epic video man
It will be sad to see the PEP's go but the Class 777's do look like they will be good trains, I'm gonna try them out later in the year.
When I was in vienna there was an express airport double decker train and it had a charging ports too
Nice video. You could have shown a bit more about the train's features.
really good video mate them trains look awesome
I think the plan once they are in service on the Kirkby and Ormskirk lines is to start running them on some of the Wirral lines
Could you visit the Tyne & Wear Metro and try to visit the least used train station of Teesside Airport? There's only one train that stops at the station by Northern and it's on a Sunday
Teessside Airport has been closed for a while no trains stop there like Redcar British Steel
@@Macrowa no it still operates the one train on a Sunday :)
I thought the lateness was intentional, to imitate the 777s introduction into service.
Love your vlog
The trains that say not in service on the dotmatrix are trains that come from Ormskirk that go in the reverse siding
It may be I’m a bit (lot) out of date but the seats from the 502/3’s were plush and comfortable the 507/8’s are bone-shakers and 777’s don’t look any different. It seems to me that comfort is out of the window in favour of getting as many as possible in. The platforms on most of the Merseyrail stations have been shortened with the odd exception, Formby and Freshfield come to mind so extra carriages could have been added and these new trains could have been really special.
They remind me of the new London underground ones on the new Elizabeth line. (Hoping I’ve got that right 😂)
Rode those, too. Really quiet announcements sob
I thought the seats were going to be rock hard as EVERY train built since 2013 and comfort is what I care the most about sooo I prefer the peps
Did you know you were late in getting a video out about the 777. I thought you might not be aware. 😂
You didn't show the party trick of the extendable door shelf.
I’m hoping to visit Liverpool in May. I hope I’ll still be able to ride both the PEPs and the 777s at that point?
You should be able to! The phased introduction is allegedly planned to take 15 months.
Only 3 years late
I seen 777001 not in service at lime street low level
50/50
I go on that train everyday
I want to ride the Class 777’s
thought 777049 was the only one out and has been for a while
To my knowledge, 009, 018 and 049 are now in service. Only one running at a time, though.
Do you like football or any sport?
@@NickBadleysuprising they were not in service when the others were in service. but wow! I'll leave a subscribe
I want to go on new class777
As a commuter. Seats are unbelievable hard compared to existing trains. Journeys to Southport, Chester and West Kirby are going to numb bum awful.
… and why can’t the doors be simply left open while standing at Central(like existing trains)? The noisy beeping as doors constantly open and close while the train is essentially parked for 5mins is unnecessary. Going to be awful when both platforms are occupied by 777s
The ride is smoother and the train runs more quietly without the normal Merseyrail knocking tick sound the old trains make.
Comets? \m/
Emily what?
I saw your Tweet on Twitter Nick would you be interested in RUclips collab
